James is a complete asshole and a liar. My car sat there from March 10th until the Good Friday with nothing done. Then I brought the car back and was told it would be done in a week or two the most. I went by there over the Memorial Day weekend, and my car was sitting outside the place was closed and the car was never touched. I had to go home and get my spare key and took my car home. James was open yesterday and never called to check with me as to where the car was. For all he knew it could have been stolen. Said installer done many wheelskin steering wheel covers not true. Cover seam was put and inch off center some stitching zig zagged cover pinched in spot and loose in other. Terrible job jr is rude he originally said job would take 1hr that was not true I waited in the freezing cold 20 degrees for 2 hrs as he said there is no place to wait a very cold-hearted person to do this to a 70 year old man he saw me coming down the street after he pulled out the vehicle and did not stay by vehicle for me to inspect job but ran into the office and jumped behind the desk because he knew the job was slop and that he basically was robbing me. I wouldnt take the money back if he offered it. The cover has to be redone but after you pull out the treading the holes are stretched ruined So not only was i robbed 150 cash for the job i also lost 65 for the cover. It cannot be redone it will take a new cover. I recommend you run from this place as fast as you can for the hills. read more

The headliner on my car was coming apart. I called around and was quoted insane prices and days of waiting. Some places would not even give an estimate over the phone. When I called Phoenix, James answered and was able to quote a price and have my car fixed on the same day I brought it in. I was very satisfied with his very friendly attitude and ability to have my car fixed within a day. The price was very reasonable too. Brought my car for a new convertible top. When I received my car the headliner was not installed properly. Returned the car to them and after four days I got the car back and the next day the headliner was pulling off again. When I returned a third time they told me I need a new headliner. There was no problem with the headliner prior to the roof replacement. Very disappointed in their work and weary of opening the roof. Think twice before enlisting their services. read more

Not enough good things can be said about James and Phoenix Upholstery. I brought my car there regarding installing some new weatherstripping to fix some leaks in the top. As it turns out, the top needed replacing (it was 13 years old). Instead of installing the weatherstripping and charging me for it, James made some adjustments to the top to hold me over for the time being and gave me back the weatherstripping I purchased so I can return it instead of wasting money. Eventually, I had James replace the top and he took his time to make sure everything was perfect. The top looks amazing and fits even better. It is very tight, perfectly adjusted, and all the leaks are gone. He kept me updated via phone calls through the entire process and explained things to me visually in person when possible. He even fixed some interior upholstery issues for me while he had the car. I would highly recommend Phoenix to anyone looking for an upholsterer in NY. read more

After being almost ripped off at a BMW dealer, I went to see Jim,,,,he knew what was the problem that the drain plugs were clogged, fixed it in one day at a great price. Not only did they replace the carpet with a factory carpet, they also had the car cleaned. My car looks new and no longer smells. This place is way too pricey...I recently called for a quote and spoke to a gentleman about the job I was looking to do on my motorcycle seat. He was nice and asked if I can send him pictures of what I needed done. I sent him the pictures and explained that I only needed to redo vinyl and nothing extra. He said a vinyl wrap would be $100 from what he could see in the pictures. Mined you that my seat was in perfect condition but I had a few scratches from a stray cat I found using my bike cover as shelter. He tore through the vinyl so I cut off just the vinyl because it was garbage but the seat was in perfect condition. I took the seat the next day and spoke to a gentleman who I explained that I called the day before about the seat he said that was my son. I then explained to him again about just plain black vinyl no design no leather just wrap the seat. He says I wish you didn't cut the old vinyl off I asked why he said he has to follow the old pattern to wrap the seat ‍‍ and then says the job is going to cost "$350" my seven year old was with me and she even said "350"??? I told the old man you know I could buy a new seat for that price. He struggled his shoulders and said that's the price. I just said ok thanks you but no and walked out. I definitely wouldn't recommend this place at all. Shop around and you will find better. I did and the guy did excellent work for $100 that took him an hour and a half to make. read more

Phoenix Auto Upholstery helped me out when 4 other places wouldn't even try. They bent over backwards to accommodate me and fix the problem with my mom's car. The owners, James and Cheryl (son and mom), are not only as nice and kind as can be, but so are their employees. James explained all the options I had so that I can feel comfortable in the process. They went the extra extra extra (yes, triple extra!) mile to correct the problem as best as they could with a smile. I left happy with their efforts and even more so with their warmth and kindness. Very sweet family business. You don't find people as nice as this every day. My collision shop in Hewlett recommended them and I'm so happy that they did. Jim seemed like a nice guy at first. Willing to help. He was saying he could build up an adult booster seat for me considering I'm a little person. Willing to make it happen for me. As the project came around there was another side to him. Jim has an anger problem it seems. It took all I got to sit on the dirty cushion thinking it was a demo (didn't mention anything to him, just following orders), because we needed a starting point. Without telling him anything my mom and I had a quiet private conversation that the cushions looks water soaked or maybe even sweat soaked, discolored, dirty, and etc. To be sure, my mother asked, "If this was a demo and not the actual cushion he will be using, he said " He will be using it" My mother stated "but it is dirty and have stains on it". It is only natural to be concern about your health and considering he was charging me for his labor and material. Anyone would want something new if they are paying a lot of money for it anyways. There should be a choice between new and used that the shop owner has to respect. He explained, "It is what he will be using because it is form fitting and he had nothing else in mind". Our original discussion was that he was going to build a cushion and then we do measurements and tweaking. So I was in shock considering this project is time sensitive because it enables me to finally drive my car to work. I waited 2 days for him; to find out he can't do it. Having no other options. I asked him "nicely" if "he can strip the top layer off that has the dirt and the discoloration on the used seat cushion" he was providing me that was from a previous car that was not mine. Speaking very loud and rude he was like "it will be covered with material and etc., why should it matter" He walked away and came back speaking very loud and rude saying to get out of his shop and he's not going to make the seat cushions for me. Repetitively saying to leave very rude. I mentioned to him "nicely" (took a lot of heart to hold my frustration and emotions) I waited two days for you and he said rudely I can't do it for you and get out, there is the exit and walked away again. Shop garage door was shut. We were lost on whom to find and approach to ask to let us out. This is not how you treat a customer. I left there in tears. He could have said nicely he couldn't do it and let us leave on good terms, but he chose to be rude. read more

I visited Phoenix to have my door panels done in leather for my car..I was greeted and the car was looked at, I was given an estimate , but they person Jim was his name said they would need to look for a kit, took my info and said they would call back. I gave them no issue with the price never haggled. 1 week goes by and nothing, I called back they said "oh yeah there is no precut kit so we can do it without it, I asked if I could bring the car again the person said "sure no problem" ...I went a week later ,...and now an older gentleman, the owner also named Jim (senior) looked at the car, I chose the leather I wanted....again never haggling the price..he also took my information on a bill of sale now and said i will call you once I make a call about getting the material. I left and thanked him, I waited another week, heard nothing back...I called and left a voice mail two times. 4 weeks have passed and I have heard nothing back in regards to doing my car...I was always professional and polite and always willing to pay the cost they said. THis shop however caters to predominantly white race customers of which I am not. They gave me a run around because they simply did not want to work on a black persons car. I have heard this about this shop before yet figured I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. This is not just an accusation it is the truth.
