Classic Leyland Restorations in Prospect, CT (who have done wonderful mechanical and bodywork on my Mini - I highly recommend them as well), recommended AutoMat. The owner Tim provided an estimate around half the price of two other shops that I had approached (one very far away in PA) and could schedule me in just a few weeks. The final cost was higher due both to reinforcements/padding they applied to prevent the frame spines from tearing the new skin, and their decision to remove the entire frame from the roof of the car, but it was still less expensive than other shops. And their customer service is top-notch - they even gave the car a courtesy interior cleaning and gave me a lift to the train station after my first attempt to pick up the car. I say "1st attempt" because the top wasn't 100% right at first - the new skin looked great, but the mechanism was binding when opening and closing. But they worked on it further and I was happy with how it functioned when I returned again to pick it up. Verdict: Skip the other shops; Go to AutoMat - they do great work!

After months of research and digging, I found an incredibly well regarded performance shop named "PetrolWerks" located in Long Island, NY. I spoke with the owner Moe Khan (Can't tag he blocked me) about undertaking the completion of the engine swap and was promised a 6-8 month timeline for full completion (Brakes, Suspension, Electrical, etc...) There has been numerous interruptions on his shops behalf (Eviction from previous property for safety compliance issues) which delayed the build for a bit. Eventually I saw a post by a very well-known enthusiast in my area that had to "repossess" his car from PetrolWerks and he explained to me in full detail the whereabouts of my car, and the condition it was likely in... I was very surprised to hear this, and made every attempt possible to get my car out of the place it was. After weeks of trying to reach someone with nothing but silence, I decided to just "show up" with a flatbed behind me. When I called the shop to tell them I was outside with a truck to pick up my E30. I had to go to a secondary location where Moe told me the car was, and I wanted to throw up when I saw the condition/state the car was left in... This car had a low mileage fully refreshed/resealed/machined S52 swapped into it, with every part to complete the swap twice over. When I arrived, every single part I had provided was "missing" and the engine bay had a TREE growing through it. Upon inspection once I brought the car home, the damages from the neglect left me no choice but to send the car to be crushed/scrapped. I always wanted to be the guy that still owned his first car, but unfortunately thanks to Moe Khan and his team at PetrolWerks that will never happen. ***If you are reading this, and you have a vehicle being "worked on" at PetrolWerks, my advice is simple: GO GET YOUR CAR!***Lo

I do not use social media at all, so I was taken advantage of brutally. I found photos of my motor in another persons car at one point and was never told anything about why. Then "oddly" my car wasn't running and had no motor in it for over a year and a half????? I can only imagine what was happening to my motor during that time. Also I was yessed to death and promised everything and completely ignored when it came to the majority of important things that I wanted. The workmanship is AWFUL!!! I saw them set my car on fire while they were rushing to weld things together so that I could take the car back after I had threatened to tow it out due to their lack of doing anything for so long. It was in pieces for nearly 2 years! Its easy to find a person that throws high quality parts in to a car. Its another thing to find a shop that knows how to do it properly. This shop just doesn't know how to do anything well except for stacking cars all over the property. I also hated how Moe always knew how to justify how things were going. He knows how to talk and make you feel good while he ruins the dreams you have. Also, to all the guys that support each other on social media and business with Petrolwerks, you're only as good as the shops you work with and you should be embarrassed to support this one. This is a personal review but I almost never wrote it. The motivation to write it came from witnessing numerous other examples of other people being taken advantage of (that aren't writing reviews for themselves) and Moe not seeming to care at all. It should've been a dead giveaway seeing 1000 cars stacked up outside in a thousand pieces. as if that wasn't bad enough, the shop is a disgusting workspace. If you have a nice car you shouldn't bring it to a shop that is this embarrassing to the neighborhood or the car world in general. I'm sorry I didn't pay attention to other bad reviews. While I initially brought my car in for a routine oil and oil filter change, after mentioning to her a possible problem with my front end suspension bushings, she decided to hold onto my car to look into the matter, particularly since my extended warranty was within miles of expiring ......she was kind enough to arrange for a loaner which I held onto for almost one week. What I initally thought would be a conventional oil change morphed into warranty service for several leaking areas of my transmission and the repalcement of the front end bushings.....Megan was most informative and communicated with me thoughout the process.....she arranged for all the work to be covered under my extended warranty.....Once I picked up my car, I was fortunate enough to meet the general manager , Mike Volonakis who diercted me the finance dept, where Jose arranged for another exended warranty for my 2021 Crosstrek......as was the case with Megan, the service and attention provided by Mike V and by Jose was exceptional........ However, months later, the dealership has still not applied the refund to my loan account. When I contacted the warranty company, they confirmed that the claim is closed and that the dealership has already received the funds. Communication has been terrible. I've had to repeatedly reach out just to get basic updates, and even then, I've either been ignored or given vague responses with no real resolution. Antonio Salamone literally has no idea what's going on. This level of negligence and lack of accountability is unacceptable, especially when it involves a customer's finances. A reputable dealership should handle something like this promptly and transparently. If you're considering doing business here, I highly advise you to think twice. There are plenty of dealerships that actually respect their customers and handle transactions properly--this is not one of them. This was my first time purchasing a car and I 100% feel that they had taken advantage of me because of that. They did not explain the process out to me nor did they contact me AT ALL. Good Luck.

Before he began, he asked if I had any questions and he answered any of my concerns. He spent about 4 hours reviving my 2014 minivan and it looked pretty awesome afterwards. I did noticed a couple of minor deficiencies and he quickly addressed and rectified them. The service cost is a bit high but I was pleased with his efforts and his results.
