Good work! The interior is a refresh more than a remake - I liked the prior space, so I'm happy. Our family of 5 sat upstairs, everything was well spaced out, clean and comfortable. The server was pleasant and responsive. Deviled eggs app has bacon jam on it - very good! Fish (and chips) was fresh cod and fried very crispy without being too breaded. My wife had a Reuben and felt the beef was very moist - a key to good Reuben. I had a jerk chicken sandwich, which had a nice level of heat with pineapple slices to counter it. Overall, very well done food program at their moderate price point. It's a good bar, and a good and worthy choice for food in Old EC. Such a great town, I hope it gets the support it deserves. read more

My family dined in here. The service was fantastic, and the staff were friendly. Phoenix has a pretty great atmosphere. I will say, the person who brought out our food was not wearing gloves, which can be concerning during a pandemic. The food was ok. We got the crab dip as an appetizer, which was served with chips topped Old Bay to dip with. The crab dip itself was good, but we think it'd be a great idea to offer bread as an option to eat with the crab dip! I got buffalo wings with Old Bay fries as my meal. The were good, just regular wings. The fries are good with the Old Bay. My mother-in-law got chicken tenders with fries as well and those were good as well. My wife got the mussels. They are served in a lemon-garlic sauce which I was told tasted like feet, so maybe not so good. My father-in-law got fish and chips, which apparently tasted and looked like the fryer needed to be cleaned. Overall, it wasn't awful. The staff are great, the food is about average...the menu also doesn't have a very large selection. We'll probably come back in the future to try again, especially if they increase variety on their menu. read more

I haven't been to Ellicott City in a few years, well, at least the historic area. My Mom was finally able to come down from NY to visit since the pandemic. She of course, is a huge fan of Gordon Ramsey and all she wanted to do was come to Phoenix Upper Main. We made the drive up from Southern Maryland, walked the area and did some shopping. Our last stop was Phoenix Upper. WOW! We walked in the door and were greeted right away. We chose to sit upstairs because Mom wanted to see the place. My daughters were happy to just hang out with Grandma for the day. First let's start with the menu, lots of great choices and some very healthy ones. Our server offered my Mom a sample of one of the beers she wanted which I thought was really nice. We had the pretzel as an app and the mustard / horseradish dipping sauce was incredible. I had the caesar wrap, the kids had wings and chili, and Grandma had the chili also. Everything was incredible. I was only able to eat half the wrap but it made a nice snack later that evening. I've never visited a restaurant that was ever featured on a TV show but I do plan on coming here again. Honestly, the staff was nice, the food and drinks were great and the place was very clean. This restaurant is an absolute atrocity. If I could give negative starts I would with certainty. The workers were extremely rude. They would not let us use the bathroom. They didn't give us the order we wanted. The food came out terribly undercooked. Other customers who had ordered their food way after me got their food earlier than I did. The way the restaurant is run is not in any way accommodating to the Covid-19 pandemic, it is not safe nor sanitary; masks were not enforced and unlike other restaurants in the area, they did not have any hand sanitizer at the entrance. The fact that they wouldn't let me use the bathroom to at least wash me hands made it worse. I would not recommend this shithole to anyone, not even to my worst enemy. A few hours after I posted the review above I got food poisoning from their fish and chips. read more

Food is always on point. Staff is super friendly. One time I got there super late to pick up my food (my fault) and they offered to make fresh hot food. I declined since it was my fault, but it was nice that they thought cared enough to offer eventhough it was clearly my fault for being late. Love the new place! read more

I came to old Ellicott City with my brother today and decided to drop by the Phoenix upper main to grab a quick bite. Last time I came it was the Phoenix emporium and it was great then and all I have to say is it's great now. The service was good here and the burgers were amazing, I practically cleaned the whole plate. I'll be sure to come back here to eat anytime I drop into old Ellicott city again. read more

My wife and I ordered from here tonight for the first time. She got the Toasted Roast Beef sandwich and I got the Fish and Chips with a side of She Crab soup. Let me start by saying, the soup was excellent. Good amount of spice and enough bits of crab to satisfy. The rockfish in the fish and chips was great. I would have like to have seen actual "chips" (thick fries) for the fries instead of the string fries that are served with other meals. The old bay seasoning could still be used on the thicker fries. The Toasted Roast Beef was on the bland side, but it wasn't bad. A little more seasoning of some sort would have made it better. Will definitely be back and can't wait to see the renovated areas. After seeing first hand the hard work that went into renovating and revitalizing what is now Phoenix Upper Main, I've been waiting patiently for the opportunity to try the new menu. I was so please to see PUM is evolving with the times and offers an impossible burger! So that's what I got along with the old bay fries that accompany that meal. The wife got the Phoenix Burger, again with old bay fries that come with the meal. Overall, we were very pleased with the food (especially since it had to be picked up due to stupid COVID!) We LOVED the fries!! So so good, just the kind of fries I like, crispy, but soft in the middle, well seasoned and the perfect portion. My impossible burger was great. The wife's only complaint was that her burger didn't have much flavor to it. A little seasoning would go a long way to making this a 5 star review! Can't wait to try more and have the chance to get in there experience dine-in service!! read more

Beer was quite good. I had an amber ale and would give it 4/5 stars. Food was not good at all. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger medium rare and it came out grossly over cooked with the taste and texture of a hockey puck. Bacon was tough as leather. Fries were nicely done. Came here today for lunch with 2 friends. Greeted right away, seated quickly. Had the Brussels sprouts which were delicious, and the Reubens which was just okay. House sauv blanc was good. My friends both had the salad with pears which the liked. One also got the French onion soup and she really liked it. All in all a nice lunch visit! Will come again. read more

Excellent experience even though they had to get used to all the new COVID regulations. Party of 6 enjoyed dining outside at their shaded alley. You must wear your mask as you walk into the alley and all the way until you are seated. There is an outdoor sink for you to wash your hands before eating. There's also an outdoor bar serving delicious orange crushes with fresh orange juice. All the staff wear masks at all times and they are very professional and fast. I had their new roast beef/ crab dip sandwich and it was OUT OF THIS WORLD. Their old bay fries were so delicious. Everyone at the table was very pleased with their food, drinks and service. We saw an outdoor tent with properly distanced tables and might try that next time. My friend has a service dog and our server was so kind he even brought water for the dog in a proper dog water bowl. read more

No way to pay online..so had to park, go in, wait at bar..then pay. Food was cold...not even warm when we got it home. Cream of Crab soup was tasteless, utterly tasteless, and had just specks of stringy crab meat. Wings were greasy and undercooked and fries might have been okay had they been hot. I threw my entire meal away. So disappointed and I did want to support this restaurant but can't afford to waste my money. read more
