Shannon's Saloon & Restaurant is a nice little Irish restaurant and bar. We met a friend here at noon sharp on a weekday for lunch (Apr 2026). We got their $16 Spinach Salad because it's stuffed with goodies. Sliced mushrooms, tomatoes, and onion, crispy bacon and sliced hard-boiled egg, house-made nicely-seasoned crunchy croutons, and, our fave, tangy balsamic dressing. And a $17 traditional Grilled Reuben stuffed with tender lean corned beef, tart juicy sauerkraut, and medium-sharp Swiss cheese, with thousand island on grilled rye bread. At the same price you could get pastrami with muenster instead. We were seated on Shannon's restaurant-side immediately, and tended-to by their friendly staff. You can also sit at their bar or at wall-tables across from the bar. Their ample parking lot is easy to enter westbound on US-40 Baltimore National Pike, though parking can fill up right at dinner time. We like their cozy bar, too, but that's for another day. read more

Shannon's is just a great place to meet friends for lunch. They have a nice menu and the dining room is quiet. My husband ordered one of the daily specials - the Beef Brisket sandwich but switched out the French fries for onion rings. He was really pleased with the onion rings not so much with the brisket - he would have liked it sliced thinner. I ordered the nachos which was huge and surprising. It came out with a lot of shredded lettuce on top - not at all what I was expecting. It looked more like a taco salad than a nachos platter. Our friends had the Beef Brisket sandwich and the Maryland Crab Soup. She said the Crab Soup was the best. For deserts, they had the two lemon meringue pies which were piled high with meringue and delicious. My husband had the rice pudding which was served in a large bowl warmed with caramel sauce and toasted pecan. This was totally scrumptious. read more

The place is perfect for a great meal with some great conversation with friends. The music was high enough to hear but low enough for our chat to be heard. The food was delicious, served hot and in a very timely manner. But the waiter, he was the best thing about our visit. He was so attentive and accommodating. I wasn't sure about the seasoned fries and he had the chef make a few for me to try! That was really a special thing to do. I only wish I had gotten his name. I can't say enough good things about Shannon's and it's about time I leave a review. It is our go-to neighborhood Irish bar and restaurant in Ellicott City. Our first time going there was about 15 years ago for St. Patrick's Day dinner. Since then, we've been back at least a twenty times, usually for dinner. I just love their food. Shannon's food is always excellent and service is very good. Thursday 2 of us stopped by and ordered to soups and split a sandwich with a side of baked potato. I told the waitress Izzy that we wanted to split the order. They split the sandwich in the kitchen and spit the baked potato.. Presented it on two plates with butter and sour cream on each plate. The restaurant has a homey feel. Our server has worked there for 27 years and was nice. Service was good. I got the horseradish crusted filet which is filet mignon breaded with horseradish crust served with mashed potatoes and asparagus (since they ran out of the original vegetable that should have come with it). The mashed potatoes were very flavorful. The filet mignon was good. I thought the chocolate cake could have been richer and more moist. read more

Came for the food and drinks which were excellent. Also came for the hospitality which was lacking. If I'm sitting at the bar having a meal, I don't appreciate the bartender starting a conversation with her customer friends about bad Maryland politics. Have that discussion with them when you're out hiking or whatever it is you do with them. Don't thrust it upon your paying customers as we do not all share your opinion. Shannon's is like the neighborhood Cheers bar where everyone knows your name. Very warm and friendly with excellent local dishes such as crab cakes and fried oysters when in season. Had a nice lunch at this place. The French Onion soup was really delicious, so much so I forgot to take a photo. Had the hot pastrami and a burger, both were fantastic and the portion so big we had lunch for the next day. Our server was excellent, she checked on us frequently and it really made a difference. We have enjoyed food and drink many times over the years at Shannon's, and yesterday we saw another side of them. We were having lunch with friends there when my husband had a diabetes problem, a SERIOUS low blood sugar. Our friend went to ask for some juice, and Melissa rushed over to bring the juice and hold it for him while he drank. They then called the EMTs for us and stayed nearby while the EMTs were treating him even though it was the middle of lunch business. I like supporting good local businesses and it is even better when the business is run by good people. read more

I am finally doing this review after intending to so for quite some time and the holidays urged me to write today . My wife and I have visited Shannon's many times over the years and now frequent for a Carryout almost weekly. I am a career restaurant general manager and thus cannot keep from observing a lot whenever interacting with any business. All this said, I am very thankful for the team at Shannons. It is delightful to visit. You can tell when a restaurant operates from the heart and when the leaders care for their guests and their staff alike from their heart and Shannon's does just this. I have gone here since I was a little kid. It's a true neighborhood spot where friendly faces and service still exists. Most of the patrons range from middle aged to blue haired (the parking lot fills up promptly at 4:30 pm), but it's family friendly as well and I have also sat at the bar to get to go food and struck up a conversation with the regulars. The food is tasty, with many items being made in house with plenty of specials to keep peoples' palates entertained. There are certain things that don't appeal like liver and onions (yuck) but they usually have a nice variety of meat, fish, and standard american food. They have been offering contactless curbside pick up during the pandemic, and it's brought right to your car. The accuracy is great and the food is always prompt. read more

Shannon's has been at this location serving quality food fir as long as I ca recall. I gave to thank my beloved father (RIP) for turning me on to this place decades ago. The classics are still served here and their specials are often unique and tasty. Nice bar with good selection of various spirits. Service can be a bit slow during busy times and oddly sometimes there is only one bar tender for a rather large bar. I recommend attending their St Patricks day festivities. Get there early - i mean sunrise early, to be able to park. They share a small strip center parking lot so it can be a challenge. read more

We had another great dinner at Shannon's last night. We had MD crab soup (a little spicy, which is good!) and cream of crab soup, both delicious. I always judge a cream of crab by its thickness, and this one did not disappoint. Thick and full of crab. We also ordered the grilled BBQ chicken sandwich (w cheese & bacon) and fries, and one of the daily specials, a roast chicken wrap with fruit cup. It was amazing. I even remarked that the fruit cup included all fruits I liked (cantaloupe, honeydew, grapes, strawberries, pineapple), and no bananas or watermelon, which I do not. The specials change every day, and I always like to try something new when I go. Our waitress, Maddie C., was outstanding. She anticipated our every need, had refills there as soon as we emptied our glasses, brought extra napkins and crackers without needing to be asked. She was super attentive, yet not overly so as to be annoying. She noticed my chicken wrap had onions in it when she picked it up from the kitchen, so she had them remake it before it even made it to the table, and apologized for the few extra minutes that took. Most places would have served it and waited for me to either complain or just eat it and pick the onions out. Shannon's caters to an older crowd, and closes pretty early (8pm on weeknights), but the food is always delicious and the waitstaff and the kitchen know their stuff. It's quiet enough to have a conversation, and the slightly louder bar/TV area is nicely separated from the dining rooms. Oh and I forgot to mention the amazing desserts! Highly recommend if you're looking for a quiet spot with reasonably priced good food in Ellicott City. Prepare to hunt for a parking spot on the lot, as there are a lot of businesses in the shopping center. read more

They charge $21 for one crab cake. You can buy a 16oz can of lump crab meat and make 4 crab cakes for $29.88. Over the years Shannons keep increasing their prices and the food isnt so good anymore. When I looked to have a perfect birthday dinner I chose Shannon's because I knew they have prime rib and baked potato with sour cream, my quintessential celebration meal, on the menu.... Then I saw Today's Special, twin filets mignons topped with crab lumps and bearnaise sauce accompanied by baked potato and green vegetable. How could I resist? My husband also chose it. We both loved it. It was an excellent cut of beef cooked just as we specified. But I HAD to have dessert for my birthday, five-mile high chocolate cake. My husband indulged in Bailey's Irish cream bread pudding with vanilla ice cream. Guess what we will be eating tomorrow for both dinner and dessert? I am not even sure we will finish it all then! There are some creative items on the menu, but I like Shannon's as a reliable source of good solid classic items like hot beef sandwiches or meat loaf. They are also caring. They do not take reservations, but when I came in with my husband, who is visually impaired and uses a cane the hostess told me to call ahead when I plan to come, because they take reservations for patrons with special needs. There is a bar that attracts a lot of regulars, but the bar noise level does not interfere with conversation in the dining room. Shannon's has been a staple in the community dating back to the 80s. I have since moved back to the area and decided to check it out again, for the first time in about 15 years. It is the same Shannon's I remember, still crowded, same great traditional entrees. I had the crab cake dinner and it was the best crab cake I have had in a while, the sides were pretty basic but the green beans and the baked potato were perfectly cooked. Simply the best. Cozy, homey atmosphere and the food is terrific. You can't get a bad meal here. I had a special dietary request. Melissa sat down with me and went over what I needed.
