Initially, I…read morewas surprised as I had gone to two other nationally recognized ophthalmologists who specialized in LASIK and both told me I was a perfect candidate. Both of the other doctors missed that I had a history of severe dry eyes whereas Dr. Patel knew from just a 10 minute eye exam. I ended up getting PRK and on the day of my surgery, I was guided through all my questions, concerns, and given detailed instructions on what to do post surgery and what to expect during recovery. The surgery was surprisingly quick and painless. I was given a goodie bag with drops and lubricant. I followed the directions (use the lubricant liberally!) and although the first couple days were painful and I mostly slept, I could see decently in about a week and almost perfectly within 2-3 weeks. It's been nearly a year from my surgery and I can't begin to tell you much my life has improved without glasses. I'm so glad I listened to Dr. Patel's advice for PRK because even though the recovery time was longer, I have zero issues with dry eyes. I've never felt more appreciated and cared for at any other doctor's office than at WVI.

Anywy--…read moreMy friend went to pick glasses from Grene Vision on Maize Road, Wichita, Kansas on Wednesday afternoon. He had forgotten his medical method of payment card. His wife tried to call to pay with the medical card, but they were unable to answer the phone. (If you are familiar with Grene Vision's phone service where they never pick up, you get in a loop, and it finally hangs up from you, that is what was happening again.) No one answered until the answering service answered toward evening. She called back in the morning to pay and have the still pending transaction cancelled and to pay with the medical card. Reception answered and was transferred to billing. Billing said they cannot cancel the card, but they transferred her twice more, ending up with the conclusion that optical does not get into the office until around noon. Finally, late in the afternoon, someone called to cancel the still pending credit card and take the medical card over the phone. The medical card went through immediately. The credit card CREDIT posted over the weekend. The day this was attempted to be cancelled and repaid with the medical card was Wednesday. The day no one in optical was working was Thursday. The medical card was charged and went through immediately on Thursday. The credit card was fully charged through the credit institution late on Friday. No credit was made. No cancellation of the charge was made. Now, we have twice the amount that we paid. What happened? They don't need to charge for the glasses until they are picked up. Then, they wouldn't have all of this extra work to deal with. That money should have been credited right away on Thursday or not even taken on Wednesday. Be wary here. The doctors messed up my friend's eye while they did cataract surgery, charging thousands for it and charging even more for follow-up appointments that will never correct their mistakes. Now, they took twice as much for a pair of glasses that he did not even require.

Doctor told me my vision some how had improved, which I feel really isn't possible unless a miracle happened or they tested poorly and wrong in the past. But it didn't stop there, I then went to get new frames and was completely dismissed, not even acknowledged once and ultimately told I needed to wait to be called back as I was taking up room. Overall I am never going back there, do not give your money or time to these people.

Plus they waited for over one year after the surgery to send a bill for $400 still owed, after Medicare payments. When I asked exactly how much my cataract surgery and pan-optic lenses would cost I was told that the surgery would cost $4100 which would be filed with Medicare. And that the pan-optic lenses would not be covered by Medicare and they would cost me $4,600 for the two of them, which I chose to finance. I can't believe that they waited over a year to bill the $400 which I had originally been led to believe, in pre surgery consultations, that I would not be out of pocket. Some misunderstanding there. Why wait an entire year? I complained to their billing department and they politely told me that was not covered by insurance so I told them I would pay it in increments. Then mysteriously, a week later, after that conversation with Marissa , I received a new invoice....15 dang months after the surgery. Vision Surgery charged for the surgery center where my cataract surgery was performed indicating I also owed them for the surgery as well. Dr. Kingrey's office NEVER advised me that there were additional charges for the surgery center. They charged an additional $3,100 for the surgery (use of their facility). Marissa deflected my complaint about misquoting, stating that Vision Surgery Consultants does not have any control over the surgery facility itself since they are "owned" by different entities. Hogwash. They are fully aware of "how much the surgery will cost" between the surgeons hands and the room he does his procedures in. The proof of that dishonesty is that Vision Surgery Consultant's website clearly lists both their main office at Lindberg Circle (as East Location) and Vision Surgery Consultants (the surgery center on North Topeka as their Downtown Location). They are hand in glove, one and the same, and fully aware of the total charges that will be incurred for cataract surgery. When a patient asks an extremely unambiguous and direct question...How much, exactly, will be charged for this surgery along with the "not covered by insurance" pan-optic cataract lenses, there is absolutely no way that they should have deceptively told me the surgery itself would be $4,100 when they knew that their surgery facility would charge an additional $3,100. Do not do business with Vision Surgery Consultants unless you get an absolutely clear written quote from them for the total that will be charged for not only the surgeons fee, but also what they charge for Dr. Kingrey's 15 minutes of use for the operating room. Attached is their yellow Financing Flier upon which I took notes a couple weeks before scheduling my surgery, during which a staff person sat down with me to go over what it would cost and what would be covered by Medicare. So there was no misinterpretation or misunderstanding about what they quoted me. Having said all that, I have absolutely no issue with the procedure itself. Dr. Kingrey is world class and beyond exceptional in his skills as an eye surgeon. I just wish I could say the same for his front office who advise patients of the upcoming charges.
