Got attracted by their happy hour $5 frozen margaritas sign outside and decided to give it a try on a hot sunny day. It's kind of funny seeing how 90% of the people there were drinking the frozen margaritas and I was thinking it must've been good. Indeed, it's a decent drink with a good amount of alcohol. The ice was also blended well so it's the best choice on a warm day! The atmosphere is kind of dim and dark and I think I might have too much fun and left my sunglasses there and they were nowhere to be found after. Sad. read more

Pianos, the mecca of pre-teens with fakes, transplants, and hipsters that don't realize it's 2018. I don't know if I missed they hayday of Pianos, or what. I've been here a bunch of times between 21-25. The first time was great, a random Saturday after work around 3pm. We got burgers, and frozen margs that were strong as hell. The bartender was sweet and I went home feeling great about the world. Any time after that was awful. The burgers will always have a soft spot in my heart, but anytime I've had one after it's been under cooked! There's always a line wrapped around the block unless you grandfather yourself in. If you're hot and lucky, you will be plucked out of the line and ushered to the front. (Also if you're not the generic LI bro this can happen.) The crowd is insufferable, because they're all young yuppies that have heard Pianos is "hip" They're rude, selfish, and obnoxious. Well drinks are overpriced and half ice, the frozen margs are kind of overplayed after your first 2 times there or if you actually drink substantial amounts of alcohol. Bartenders are okay. I can understand why they're so whatever, they've been dealing with wankers all night. They're two floors, the upper floor has a DJ. DJ is kind of meh. There is also a bathroom up there so heads up. The bathrooms are disgusting so be aware. I wouldn't come here unless a band I like was coming. But also-- I keep finding myself here so ???? Pianos is almost like a rite of passage. I dipped into Pianos the other day after work to kill some time before an early evening happy hour. I have walked by this place on busy weekend nights and it always looked like a disaster area with a huge line to boot. However, after work on a weeknight, it is much different. They have happy hour drink specials at $4 for well drinks and certain wines and beers. That is a great deal, IMO. They also had a live DJ spinning dancehall and dub reggae. The music was loud-ish, but not scream at your buddy sitting next to you loud. It was busy, but not a total zoo and there were no bro's slamming shots. I also, liked the decor. It was sort of shabby, very LES, but not trying too hard. The front windows were pulled open so there was a nice breeze as well. The bar staff was very friendly, I had barely sat down and someone came over to great me and take my order. Cheap booze, good music, good service and a good crowd - all the ingredients for a solid happy hour. read more

Worst of all, we were promised 2x Fender Deluxe Amps per the contract but 30 minutes before the start of the show we were told that one of them was broken and were offered a ridiculously tiny 20watt amp instead. The bouncers on duty this past Wednesday night February 21 refused my best friend entry because albeit she is 25 years old and a very close friend of hers was performing in the venue, all she had was her ID on her phone. She started weeping profusely, and they became hostile and violent with her. So she fell back. A little later after she decided just to wait on the street, she asked them if she could simply get some napkins from the bar to wipe her tears. They started screaming at her. I was with her and witnessed these two men snorting coke as well as other patrons doing the same, waiting to get inside. This will all be reported to the NYC Department of Buildings. I've been to Pianos a couple of times before on the weekend. Nothing too memorable as I only went in the beginning of the evening. My bros and I ventured into pianos on a Thursday night recently not quite knowing what to expect. The place eventually became lit. It had the makings of a good bro spot. Good ratio. Good looking chicks. And of course a bumping dance floor on the 2nd floor. If you looking for a party on Thursday nights, it's the place to be. I will say that the dance floor can be a bit hot and sweaty and crowded but if you looking to dance and have a fun night it's the spot. read more

tldr: blatant racial discrimination I have never left a review for any establishment EVER, but the treatment that me and my friends received at this bar was incredibly unacceptable and disgusting. While we were waiting in line, me and a group of my black friends were pulled out of line without warning or explanation by the bouncers and a white woman who I assume was one of the managers. When we asked why, they explained that we were "stumbling" even though no one had fallen or moved out of line. One of the bouncers even stated that he didn't understand why we were pulled out of line by the white female employee. They then proceeded to call one of my black female friends "aggressive" and then were about to happily let our non-black friends who we had come with, into the club right after this. Oh, Pianos. How I wish I could submit to Yelp a fair and accurate review of your establishment - of the drinks, the food, the ambiance, the service, the clientele. But sadly, I cannot. For, after waiting 45 minutes on Friday evening last weekend, I was refused entry by this man (first photo) wearing a black hat and high shorts, who seemed more interested in updating his Match.Com profile on his cell phone than on being an attentive and respectful bouncer. Just so I'm being clear - my friends and I waited on line for almost an hour, and then the man in the front nonchalantly opened the velvet rope barrier, and just told us "have a good night guys". No explanation as to why we were being denied entry. He just told us to step off the line. I tried to walk back up to speak to this man, but was stopped by a stocky man with dreads, wearing a black New England Patriots cap (second photo). I politely asked this man why my friends and I were denied entry. He told me it was because we were men, and they were only letting women in that evening. Astonished as I was, I laughed it off, and asked this man why his colleague (who was still updating his Match.Com profile in front of the line) didn't just tell us that, instead of impolitely discarding us from the line. He decided to walk away from me then and there. Feeling aggrieved, I decided to snap the photos of the two men. At one point, the stocky man with dreads saw me, and walked over in an exceptionally threatening way. I covertly switched my phone to the Messaging app, so that when he looked behind my phone, he could not see I was taking a photo. I fear what would have happened to me had he seen that I was, indeed, taking these photos. All in all, it was a truly awful experience at Piano bar, one of the worst I've had in New York City due to the unprofessional and extremely inappropriate behavior of the two bouncers that evening. Came here on a late Saturday night two weekends ago and it was super duper crowded! We waited in line outside for like 45 minutes, when we finally got inside there was a $10 cover and then we had to wait in another line for like 20 minutes just to get upstairs where the dance floor is. The music was pretty good they played hip hop & R&B with .. interesting transitions lol the vibes were kind of all over the place. It was incredibly crowded upstairs and definitely a sausage fest. I like that up front is all bar and in the back there's a fully sectioned off room for bands of private events. The beet list is small and not for you if you're looking for crafty things. We came while the lead guy from Spindrift was performing songs from the soundtrack of a movie. He was premiering the soundtrack. It was pretty neat seeing some live music and the crowd that was here. We mostly stayed downstairs and just hung out and relaxed with some drinks. As for drinks, the front bar area had a great selection of beers $8 each. Upstairs had a different selection of music and a dj after 10:30. The coat check downstairs was a convenient option at $1 per item. I had my phone stolen from my purse from this establishment. I noticed that my phone was gone when I was on the top floor. I decided to go downstairs with my friend to see what to do. The security guard started yelling at us and told us to come down the stairs immediately. I tried to explain the situation to him, but he wouldn't listen and told me to get out. I was pretty upset at this point, so I grabbed my coat from the coat check and tried to speak with the bouncer outside. He wouldn't even look me in the eye and told me I was too drunk and only spoke to my friend and said he couldn't converse with me because I was unreasonable and too drunk. I looked him dead in the eye, and I said I am not drunk, but my phone was stolen, so I would appreciate if you would address me directly. He said no, you blocked our servers on the stairs, who had a whole tray full of drinks, and I let him know that situation never happened, which my friend corroborated. He obviously realized that I was not drunk and that he had mistaken me for someone else, so he went to get his manager to smooth things over when he realized I was a different person separate from the situation he was referring to. They then went in to check to see if any phone had been turned in, and I let them know when they repeatedly asked if it was a green phone that it did not match the description of the phone. I have no hope that my phone will be found after I wasted my time trying to get management at the establishment to help me with a crime that was committed on their premises. Don't even bother trying to get help from their managers because you will just be accused of things that are clearly not related to you while the true culprit runs free. read more

It did have that straight off the grill taste which I didn't entirely enjoy. The music was great though and me and my coworkers definitely got to dance. Bad experience I have been to pianos many times and, for the most part, I had a pretty good time. This place has been the beginning of many fun nights on the LES. Why a bad experience all of a sudden? It seems that the male bartender working around 6pm on 1/05/16 treats certain clients differently (which could be based on color). I arrived to the bar with a friend to meet his friends who were sitting at a table. I assume that they already had a tab open. Since they were a few drinks ahead of us, my friend went to the bar to get me and himself a beer. After finishing our drinks, I went to the bar to order the next round and the bartender made a big deal about me ordering at the table. Would have been so hard to pour two freaking beers when you already had the glasses in your hand? I guess he wanted to continue to play on his phone or try to flirt with two girls at the bar who clearly were not interested in him. Ok, I was a little frustrated but not annoyed because it is just the policy of the place. BUT, three other people from our table went and ordered beers directly from him. So, if he saw me at the table, then he CLEARLY saw the other folks at the table who ordered after me. Why weren't they turned away and told to use the table service? What was the difference? I know!!! The other people who ordered from him were white and I am black. I hate to pull the race card but sometimes you have to call it as your see. It is perfectly fine if an establishment has a policy about table versus bar service but that establishment should apply that policy to EVERYONE or get staff who will have preferential treatment on bar clients. read more
