The food & people are amazing, best Ethiopian food I've experienced. I feel I'm stepping into Ethiopia when I walk in & into someone's home. Remember this is a much different culture than in America, so come with kindness, respect, awareness, mindfulness & willingness to connect, learn from & understand these people. Not just to be served food like any other American restaurant. Try the coffee ceremony!

Best Ethiopian food I have ever had in the states. Really took me back to Ethiopia!! If you want authentic food, you have to go to Piassa. Best kept secret. Don't trust the bad reviews, it's amazing!!! When you step in you literally feel like you're in Ethiopia.

This was my very first time eating Ethiopian food and I think it's now fair to say that I'm not a huge fan. Now if you LOVE Ethiopian food in general this review may not be as helpful. Summary = If I were to visit again, it would definitely be for the environmental experience and not so much the food. FOOD: To me (and my dad), everything was either spicy, sour or an "interesting" combination of them both. We ordered both the Veggie combo and a chicken dish. I enjoyed bits and pieces of the veggie combo but the chicken dish (whose name currently escapes me) was ENTIRELY too spicy to truly enjoy. The Ethiopian bread itself is another interesting texture that resembles a spongy pancake. I enjoyed the soft, spongy texture of it but found myself wishing it was sweet instead of having a flavor similar to sourdough bread. ATMOSPHERE: Wow such a beautiful restaurant! So much to catch the eye and at a certain time during the night (~10pm?) they turn down the lights and start some live entertainment which is just so enjoyable! I loved the music and the lights and just the overall culturally relevant atmosphere. There are booths, private couches, small tables near the floor (that I suspect is of Ethiopian culture) as well as regular table seating.

Great Service. Delicious & tasty food. I love the flavors. I can't cook this type of deliciousness so thank you. I love the veggi combo, egg w/ chicken & red sauce

We were very excited to try this place that was highly recommended by our Ethiopian friend that we think the world of. I was VERY disappointed with the staff. They were very rude and took 50 minutes just to get the appetizer which was sambussa which was quickly tossed on the table without giving me the opportunity to ask for the green dipping sauce. I had to flag down a worker to ask for it and he rudely said it does not come with it. Say WHA? I clearly saw on Yelp pics that it does. And if it it traditionally does not come with it, provide it. I WILL PAY EXTRA for dipping sauce. By the time our mains came (Awaze Tibs and Kilkil) we were just ready to leave. The food was good, the decor cute, but the rudeness of the staff members killed it for us. I would hate to think it was because I am not Ethiopian. Also, during the 50 minute wait for the appetizer I decided to take some pics of the decor...NOT people. A lady that worked there said pictures are not allowed. WTH? I am not at the Clermont lounge. PS I see dozens of pics on yelp and on FB.

Highlight: if you want to feel like you traveled to another country for a brief lunch, then this is the place to go! The decor inside this place was celestial and very ethnic. We ordered the chicken and the Piasso special beef. Every order came with lots and lots of injera (see explanation below). They love playing 90s and 80s romantic instrumentals and have a live band overnight. The stews are good and the meat must be eaten hot to preserve tenderness and juice. I give them a 3.5/5 for this matter bc the food did lose its taste if it got a little cold. Injera- a sourdough crepe served with EVERY dish in an Ethiopian restaurant. It starts out looking like a crepe but then develops a unique porous and slightly spongy texture. The thin batter is poured onto the cooking surface, traditionally a clay plate over a fire though now more commonly a specialized electric injera stove, and the bottom remains smooth while the top develops lots of pores which makes it ideal for scooping up stews and sauces. It is used for EVERYthing including plate, napkin, bread, etc. injera fills you up- so I recommend going slowly or you will feel very heavy later on in the meal despite its light sour taste The chicken we had was a thick heavily dark red spiced oily gravy with 1 chicken drum stick stewed and flavored for hours and a hard boiled egg. It looks like a heavily stewed spice and maybe vegetable base that tastes mildly like chili with a layer of oil on top. Your Injera will hold onto the stews well but the pores can only last so long, so this is a dipping dish. The Piassa Beef was almost like a grilled beef chunks. Must be eaten hot- when it is cold- it becomes mildly stringy and tough to chew and loses its juices and flavors. I recommend wrapping it inside the Injera. It is not too spicy or too salty. It is chargrilled with peppers. They like playing romantic 80s and 90s classical soft rock instrumental in the back, the interior is quite celestial- felt like I entered another world! If you're trying to do an anthro project on Ethiopian culture, this is the place to go for sure- very authentic and very fun for the eyes, palate, and for the company.

Service is consistently slow. Food is ok, it is hit- or- miss. The last time, I got awaze tibs and it wasn't decadently flavorful. It's conveniently close to YDFM so I come here. It's in a small, shared parking lot but I've never had problems with finding parking. There's usually only 1-4 other tables here yet wait is still at least 30 minutes each time.

Today we finally went, and the experience exceeded expectations! The food was excellent and the staff were helpful and answered my questions about the food and helped me and my wife decide what to get. The combo platter is a great option for trying out several different meats and veggies and it does not break the bank. There was plenty of food for 2. The building was nicely appointed and the convenient hand washing station made the experience of eating primarily with your hands much less messy than one might think. As a person who is not very good with spicy heat, there were still so many foods that I could eat without my face melting. The dry spice mix and the dipping sauces were too spicy for me, but it did not matter, as the food had plenty of seasoning and flavor packed into it already. I can't wait to go back and try some of their other offerings!

We told him what kind of food we like and our spice levels and he ordered everything for us. I got the Doro tips (chicken tips) with rice, my husband got the Shekla which was beef or steak and his coworker got the Shiro (fish & salmon). I don't normally eat Salmon but the Shiro was really good. It had a-lot of flavor to it. We shared everything and got to experience eating the Injera that is used as a plate and utensil. Everything was delicious. The customer service was superior. We could tell his coworker comes here often as everyone was friendly towards him and the owner even came over to our table so we were able to share our first time great experience with her. My husband's coworker wanted us to try some tea/coffee after our meal but we were both stuffed. We look forward to coming back and will hopefully save room for tea to conclude our meal.

Parking is shared with other businesses in the plaza, but there is plenty of available parking, including enough space to accommodate 18 wheeler trucks. When we first arrived, the older employee seemed a bit intense. He encouraged us to take our time reviewing the menu, but remained nearby watching us before we ordered. He also came across as somewhat aggressive while my friend was placing their order. After another customer voiced a complaint and left, his demeanor appeared to improve and the remainder of the visit was more pleasant. The food portions were very generous. We ordered the goat with chapati, which resembles roti skin, and two people were able to share it comfortably and leave satisfied. We also shared the king fish and rice, which was excellent and still left us with leftovers. Another friend ordered the tibis with spaghetti, and that portion was large enough that leftovers had to be taken home as well. The menu described the tibis as spicy, but we did not find it spicy at all. The food was flavorful, the portions offered great value, and there was plenty of seating available. While the service could have been more welcoming at the start, the quality and quantity of the food made for an enjoyable dining experience overall.
