They don't have a restroom. How can they serve food and drinks and not have a restroom for customers? It was also very dirty inside.

This was a fabulous evening, arriving at around 5:30 pm to a packed parking lot but the inside was not at all busy. A few folks at their dart boards but most people were outside for "Music Bingo" and that gave us choices to be comfortable. David at the bar was a delight, taking and filling orders. Mrs. K. and I chose our drinks and meals. I very much enjoyed my Very Italian Pilsner and later the Lemicky Light Lager. We dove into a Cowboy Bill Burger, onion rings, cheese curds and perfectly seasoned fries. It was all the food groups and delicious. I'd say my only complaint is that they closed this evening at 8. If they were open until 9, I would have stayed longer and had another beer. Still, it was a lovely time and an easy five star review. [Review 1106 of 2026 - 1555 in Virginia - 26285 overall]

I really would recommend a non-ipa beer "Chesterfield Secret Voyage", which has a high alcohol content. It was a nice smooth drinking malty brew! The staff at the counter were friendly and knowledgeable. We tried several sandwiches. Enjoyed the fried Chicken sandwiches which came with a side. We got the onion rings. Each sandwich was $13 which we felt was a bit overpriced but the food was good. The hot dog is $8 plus $1.50 for chili and cheese plus another $.50 for a tiny sprinkle of onions. The bun was hard and broken. Wife felt that she should have returned it and was way overpriced. The inside beer area was clean and roomy but very loud. They have a few arcade games and the kids were screaming.

It was even more awkward because there were many empty tables in the bigger dining room and only one other party was seated there. We were also a party of 4. But the service and the food were awesome. We had appetizers of a very savory and huge pretzel with beer cheese and mustard sauces to dip it in. And sausage sampler's. Also very tasty. We decided to go there to honor my youngest son, Shane, who passed away a few years back, for what would have been his 52nd birthday. It was a wonderful experience and memory of past visits there with him and his family.

The entire meal I was looking at three empty tables across the dining room. The area is cramped. The wallpaper is peeling. There is grime on the bathroom doors. The view into the kitchen is unglamorous. Our server was reserved and underwhelming. I asked her what she could suggest for a vegetarian. There is one dish - with mushrooms. I asked if the green beans were cooked with ham. She said no and asked if I had food allergies. No allergies - I said I don't eat ham. The server said the beans had stewed tomatoes & mushrooms. I asked if they could leave the mushrooms off. She said, "Yes, if you pick them off." What? I ordered the French onion soup. I told the server I don't eat meat but I can tolerate beef broth. That was her invitation to say they use pork broth in the soup, but she didn't. Hubby ordered the Jager Schnitzel. He enjoyed the veal. The red cabbage was his favorite (he pulled out a bay leaf). The French onion soup tasted off. The creamed corn had three huge pieces of what I assume were husks. Otherwise it was good. The green beans were decent. I picked out the mushrooms. We were overlooked in the back. Hubby asked for a manager when he noticed I wasn't eating my soup. We were surprised that our server was the manager. There wasn't anything in her demeanor that demonstrated leadership or being outgoing. She removed the soup charge off the bill. When we had gaps in service, we asked another server for help (sharp knife, bag, lemons). Paying was a challenge. It is easy to be overlooked in the back of the restaurant. When we left, the hostess asked how we enjoyed the meal. I started to share. She said, "I'm still talking." I wish we hadn't gone inside. The idea of visiting the Bavarian Chef was much better than the actual experience.

The sign on the door said that no one was allowed in the store due to COVID concerns and that we needed to call, give the attendant our order, and it would be brought out to us. My mom and I were fine with this (she had shopped there before and was familiar with the routine) and called the number. The gentleman behind the counter - roughly 25 ft away from us and clearly visible through the glass door/front window - picked up the phone and asked what we wanted. We couldn't remember the name of the beer and tried to describe the packaging to him. The gentleman (who I assume is the owner but can't be sure) continued to stand behind the counter and watch us as we squinted/stood on our toes/craned our necks/etc. in an attempt to identify the product on one of the shelves. He never left the counter or tried to help us. Finally, we were able to make out the name of the beer on the shelf, and mom gave him our order and told him that she would be paying with a credit card. Then, instead of coming to the door to collect my mother's card as he had in the past, the gentleman insisted my mother give him her card number and security code while she stood there on the public sidewalk of the strip mall. Before I could stop her from giving the info, a construction worker working in the empty store next door walked by slowly, and I turned my attention to him to make sure he wasn't listening. By the time I turned back to mom, the gentleman behind the counter had asked her for her HOME ADDRESS which she was already in process of giving. Clearly I told mom to never do that again, and I waited for the gentleman to deliver our order to the door. When he opened the door, I calmly said that he shouldn't be asking customers to give out their personal information while standing on a public sidewalk. That it was dangerous and inappropriate. He quickly and coldly responded, "You could have gone to your car." As I stood there shocked at this ridiculous and clearly not customer-friendly response, he continued, "Or ordered online." He then closed the door, locked it and scurried back to his counter. This is customer service at it's worst, and clearly a dangerous practice. We will never be returning to this establishment, and I encourage others to stay away as well. There are a number of other quality options in the Charlottesville area.

We loved it so much that we came back a second time before heading home and ordered another one to-go for our daughter (yes, it survived the 2-hour drive!). After searching lobster ravioli online, this restaurant came up, and the photos looked so good that we decided to give it a try. When we arrived, we were greeted right away and seated promptly. However, it took a while before anyone came to our table. Two younger waitresses were standing in the back talking with someone they appeared to know, and after about 15 minutes, another staff member finally asked if we had been helped. When I told her we hadn't, she immediately took our drink and food orders. The atmosphere was pleasant and family-friendly, with a relaxed vibe. Once our waitress took over, she was amazing--attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was absolutely delicious and packed with flavor. It was well worth the visit, and I'm so glad I found the place again. I'll definitely be making a trip back!
