I called the Stafford location on Wednesday. The lady said they had what I needed, but at the Fredericksburg location. Made a special trip there on Thursday. Went inside and had to wait, even though there were no other customers. Everyone was engrossed in their computers. When I was acknowledged, told the guy what I needed and the immediate reply was "don't have any." Went back to my car and called to verify. Was put on hold for 25 minutes and never returned to. Customer service is not a priority there, unless you look a certain way. Disappointing, as we need a good salvage yard. Avoid Pick-a-Part (both locations) if you can. read more

The Fredericksburg location may or may not be a good fit for you depending on the part you need or the person you talk to, but here's our unfortunate experience. My 17 year old was given an old family '98 Mustang that had been in a slide and bump accident that caused the airbag to deploy. The car had been repaired to the point of the driver's side airbag being the last repair needed before my son could get an inspection. We're trying to help our son "adult" before he actually turns 18; but, since he's a minor, he can't go into the yard and pull his own part. However, this yard said they had two cars and that there was likely at least one intact and claimed that someone was headed out to check and would call him back. To make a long story shorter, 12 days later, after another call and another assurance someone was in the yard checking, and after no call back, my husband went with my son 30 minutes away only to arrive and have someone rudely repeat once again, "We said we'd call you." This morning, my son called again and was shortly told, "We don't have it." My son then asked, "Both cars?" The guy answered in the affirmative and hung up. That's when my red flag went up and I thought I would call and check with a manager in case there was some misunderstanding, as adults who say they have a part or claim someone is in the yard usually call back or say, "Sorry man, the part was pulled... gone... etc..." in less than 12 days. I used my son's phone. No one answered... twice. Another red flag went up that there was something other than an honest adult situation where the airbags were not there or not in good shape. To test whether they were ignoring my son's number, I called with my phone and asked for a manager. Without asking any questions or taking my name, they put me on hold. After literally ten minutes on hold through three pickups and transfers (another red flag), I found myself talking to a very nice gentleman at the Stafford location who verified my son's call history and conversations and apologized for the Fredericksburg experience, tried to give them excuses, and offered a number for finding the part elsewhere. We did. However, I called the Fredericksburg location one more time and yet another, and different, individual answered. I told her the situation and apologized that she was getting the ear full and not the several other men who refused to have a conversation, had put me on hold repeatedly, and transfered my call to Stafford. But, like the other times, "out In the yard" was her reason I could not speak to a manager. Several minutes after we hung up, I did get a call from a polite young man at the Fredericksburg location that claimed he was an assistant manger. He gave excuses for the incident and an apology. But, as I told him, and as the manager at the Stafford location had noted, the Fredericksburg location had not even created a ticket for my son. The end of the story is that my son paid $50 more for the part from a yard in Florida. It was worth it to him to consider doing this next time, as the trouble of calling out from work, an hour wasted trip, and the stress in trying to make the repair before the inspection appointment to get his sticker, including the call times and frustration of dishonest communication, was not worth saving the $50. So, end point: if you work with finding a part at this yard, remember to get them to make a ticket for you in your name, don't expect a call back, and don't take their word for whatever it is they say to you. We obviously live in a world where adults are rarely found to be "adulting" properly. It's sad for our kiddos, but hey, they are learning who to work with and how to make good business choices. read more

Not impressed! This place has gone downhill in the last 5 years. Still decently organized, but the imports are mostly picked over. I was looking for a Sonata part, and the website said they had 18 cars, but only two were "public" in the 200-899 locations. So I drove almost an hour for an engine part and one of the two was completely burned up front end, and the other had already been picked. Not sure why the "private" cars you cannot touch are listed on the website. Maybe you'd have better luck? read more

This review is largely influenced by my better half who was the one utilizing the service. I was just along for the adventure. Service was helpful and pleasant. We did not leave with what we came for, unfortunately. We travelled a distance to go to this yard because we were looking for Subarus, which are harder to find. Unfortunately, this means the ones we did were picked over. This is a very cramped yard. No space for a wheelbarrow, rolling tool chest, or dolly in the aisles. Very little room to work to remove parts. Cars were where they were said they would be, though the cars are not numbered, just the aisles. No trouble finding the cars on ticket. A few areas had bridges built where there were spots in the yard where the water drains, so there is obviously thought given to the customer in the yard. read more

Terrible customers service and high prices. I ordered a new tail light online instead of dealing with these incompetent a$$holes.

Called 3 times to make sure the parts I needed were available before making the 1.5 hour drive and should have heeded the red flags. I was placed on hold for 15-30 minutes each time and had to call back to speak to anyone. The clerk said she'd call me back about one of the parts' availability, didn't, then sounded annoyed when I called a few days later to follow up before heading over. The person I spoke with at the desk didn't want to hear the list of parts I'd come for and simply said "no" when I showed him a diagram what I needed. He shut down questions quickly. The two cars with compatible parts were in the no-customer area, so I wasn't able to inspect anything for myself. People who are able to pick their own seem to have a better experience. The part the phone contact had pulled was broken in multiple places and the damage/condition had not been disclosed. I didn't care that it, an interior part, was rusted and dirty as if it had been sitting outside for a long time, but I did care that a notoriously brittle piece (the one I was trying to replace an larger part of the car to fix) was in no better shape than the one I already had. They seemed to expect me to buy it anyway; I said said "no thanks" and mentioned that it would've been ethical to disclose the condition since I'd done as much due diligence as possible prior to the long trip. The phone contact appeared and said "well, we pulled it but you don't want it so...". I didn't stick around to hear where that was going. Nobody working at this place seemed to want to be and they make it the customers' problem. Aside from the wasted day/drive and time off of work, I did appreciate that the inventory was online and easily searchable. July 30th noon and the whole place was in disarray, the office area has benches in front of the desk to block people from getting close. Didn't know what area the part was either and I had to explain again. The only saving grace was the customer sign in lady on the side who was friendly and helpful. The glory days are over. Even the workers didn't know where section 996 was and sent us around and around confidently. They wanted $380 for a dc to dc converter just because they pulled it for me and said if I pulled it myself it was $180. No guarantee if it was working. Came with the hubby to look for some car parts for one of our cars. Entrance fee is $2 per person and you get access to all the cars on the lot. You enter through the main building and let them know what car you're looking for. They print out a list for you with all the cars they have on the lot that matches the make/model and year of the car you're looking for. The list of cars are numbered, so it's easier to find them out on the yard. Make sure to bring your tools as this is a pick-a-part yourself junkyard. Also, wear sturdy sneaks because there's a lot of rocks and car parts all over. We've always had luck finding whatever parts we needed but it's really first come first serve type of deal. The prices are reasonable and cheaper than what I've seen other used parts go for. You also have the option of paying them to go look for the part you need but it'll cost you more. If you go that route, than I definitely feel it isn't worth it. Overall though, I was satisfied with what we found and the price we paid for it. read more

I needed a replacement part for my vehicle. I let them know I was driving from 2 hours away and wanted to confirm it's the right part before paying. They said I had no choice but to pay before arrival. I called ahead on my way down to make sure the part is ready, they place me on hold for an hour. They pick back up as soon as I parked in their lot. I said I'm here, he says let me place you on a brief hold.... Why are you placing me on a hold when I said I'm here? I walk in and no one is working, everyone is just texting on their cell phones (specifically berta who i was working with), so why was I on hold all this time? Finally they grab the part and of course it's the wrong part. Her response was "That's the only part we have, do you still want it?" No! So i decided to give Pick-a-Part a chance since i would be traveling up this way from Richmond and normally deal with another junkyard. I first looked up my vehicle on there website which i will say there inventory is very nice on the website. I like the fact that they actually show you a picture of the vehicle. I went the day after a heavy rain so i expected it to be kind of muddy. Muddy was a understatement! if you go after rain make sure you wear old shoes that lace up tight! I got my shoe stuck twice lol. The isles are clearly labeled and finding cars on the yard is pretty easy. There are selected cars in the 900 section of the yard that state that you must see a salesmen to inquire about parts from the cars. I did not interpret this as you can only pay for the yard workers to pull parts from these cars. I understand that but i feel as though that should be more clearly defined on the website. A part that would of cost me 6 dollars and 15 mins. to pull, They wanted to charge me 35 to pull plus 10 dollars for the part. At that point i can just buy a new one. Overall this place has a huge selection of cars and is ok, i guess i would go back if in the area and saw a car i needed something from not in the 900 area of the lot. read more

I went to Pick A Part today for the first time. I got what I needed, the price was very fair, and I had a pretty good time doing it. (It was scorching hot but . . . not their fault.) Checking the cars was like going to the toy store when I was a kid. This was fun. It wasn't easy to find my part though - the lot is huge and the cars have been pretty well picked apart. I did find it though. Staff were helpful. I see some other commenters complained about going out there and not finding what they needed - do consider that the folks running the place have no clue where you found the parts you are buying and what is left out there. A few things to bring up. I was going in to look for a genesis coupe. They pulled up 2 lots, one in a special lot and the other in a normal lot. I paid 2.00 to go in, look around in the mud to find that they didn't have them and that they most likely scrapped them. My friend, who was going to look for a Tiburon, was told there was one in lot 999 and to go look, after searching through the 900's and not finding one we go back and talk to the guys at the front counter and they say we can't go to that lot. As a DIY mechanic, I have been pulling and buying used auto parts at Pick a Part's Fredericksburg and Widewater locations for several years now. I have bought parts there for my BMW, Chevrolet and Ford/Lincoln Trucks and cars, as well as friend's vehicles, including Volvo and Toyota. The Fredericksburg location has the largest selection of vehicles, though it is a good option for me to have their nearby Widewater location as a backup. I am VERY pleased with the pricing I get for parts that I pull myself from Pick a Part's yard. Just this past wekend I got two seats for my Suburban, and a door panel and power trunk motor for my son's Lincoln; all for about $95.00 total plus tax. I would rate Pick a Part higher if they were better organized. On their website they maintain what they say is a current list of vehicles on their yards. The list is not always acccurate. Recently it listed 5 early 90's Ford pickups as being in stock in their yard. I went to the lot that day and carefully walked the entire Truck/Van/SUV section of their yard, and did not see a single early 90's Ford pickup. This has happened to me a a few other times with other makes and models. Also, the yard itself is not as organized as the photo Guide on their website and in their lobby suggests. For example, there is a section labeled "BMW". But in this section of the yard, the BMW's, Volvos, and a few other Euro makes are all jumbled together; unsegregated by make. Also, often there is not sufficient space between the vehicles on the lot, making it often very hard to gain access to a desired vehicle without having to flag down a yard forklift to move cars out of the way until you can get to the one you want. But, at the end of the day, you can't beat their pricing and selection, especially if you have parts needs for early - mid-90's vehicles. Many other yards I have been to do not stock vehicles that old. Pick a part does a lot right. No wonder it is a VERY busy place. On the whole I am pleased with Pick a Part. I fully intend to continue to be a customer when I need used parts for my cars and trucks. read more

After driving there 1 1/2 hours, they tell me that the cars in rows with 2 digit numbers or those in the 900's are off limits to the public. Ten of the cars on my list are in those sections. A battery tray that is $4.38 on their website price list would be $20 plus $35 for a guy to pull it by taking out a few bolts. Hell no, a brand new one is less than that. My friend went in here to try to find a manual side view mirror assembly for her 2005 Nissan and was quoted $35 plus the additional $2 entry fee to pick it herself, or $65 to for them to pick the part (essentially just removing 3 Phillips head screws...ripoff). The same used (NON-aftermarket) part was listed online for $25. When she told me this, I assumed there was some kind of misunderstanding, and offered to go in and talk to them. How wrong I was! I went inside and explained we needed, they gave the same price of $35. Wait though, it gets better! When I asked to speak to the manager, I was given a list of their "prices" (I'm using quotations because NONE of the mirrors were listed at $35, even the power mirrors!). I have attached said "list".I mentioned this the the cashier also, who conveniently "ignored" this concern. I also mentioned to the manager that the same exact assembly was online for $25. I also mentioned that I was willing to pull the part MYSELF if they would at least give me a fair price, or AT LEAST the actual ADVERTISED price on their list. I honestly think they assumed since we were both females that they could take advantage of us. Save your time, money and frustration by buying used parts online. Unless you have a penis, that is. I was told as long as I was there by 4:30 p.m. I could enter the yard and pull my part as long as it didn't take more then 30 mins. So I hop in my car with my tools my girl and my wallet ready to spend as much as it took to fix my car. Yes I needed much more parts than I could pull in 30 mins but I was gonna at least pull a headlight tonight for the safety of my wife driving at night this week and a few could packs and then as much as I could in the time I had left. So I get there at 4:15 p.m. I grab my tools and head in and I ask the guy behind the counter if I can head back and start with pulling a head light and go from there. And he says. Sorry we close at 5 p.m. and it's 5 minutes till so you won't have time to pull that light in that 5 mins. So I look at the clock and it says 4:18np.m. at this time and I look at him kinda funny he sees me looking at the clock and then corrects himself by saying oh I'm sorry we close at 4:30 p.m. and that's in 5 mins sorry you will just have to come back tomorrow. 5 mins I think he can't tell time that's 12mins away. So Problem with me returning tomorrow is I work tomorrow I got off early today came from Gloucester and was really hoping to at least a headlight so I could head home with two head lights. See in the dark I have really bad eye sight at night. I was banking on knowing for sure I'd get a head light because I knew I would get there before 4:30 p.m. And get my light like I was told I would be able to do. Don't waste your time visiting this yard. Their inventory search is co-mangled with their "full service" (LOL) yard, which in reality is the same place. The UPULLIT yard is actually the back side of the regular yard. There are lots of cars there, but they are all picked to death. You will exhaust yourself trying to find something. If you survive navigating the cement cliffs, plywood death-trap ramps, makeshift bridges, traffic all around you, and hiking through the dust clouds, you may find something. Most of the time when you find what you want, it will be in the off-limits yard, and you have to buy it from a salesperson. Horrible! Don't bother going here. Don't be duped into thinking they have your car based on the website which has their inventory. It is not kept up. They must be constantly moving the cars around or something, you won't be able to find much. I looked for hours a few days ago for 7 cars. I was able to find 3 and they were so picked over they were useless to me and likely anyone else. You can't tell what rows are what. And don't go near the bathroom. My wife needed to use the bathroom and it was the most disgusting place she has seen since she moved to the United States over 30 years ago. I've been to some pretty bad porta potties and I would have chosen them over this place. They WERE organized and had there inventory on line.(They still do) If they have a car, it would at least tell you what row it was in. I was there today I was looking for Toyota's between 1989 and 1995. Of the 30 or so I looked for, I found 3! These 3 did not had what I was looking for. The rows were not consistently marked. Only every 5 or 6 were. Then in some of the areas the cars were so close to each other you couldn't even open the doors. You had to walk on the cars! Also, there was so much trash (car parts) scattered around you couldn't get down the aisles. I've been going here for years and I don't mind walking around things, I understand this "trash" happens but it was down right dangerous. I was also almost run over by an employee who was driving to fast around a corner. My wife waited in the car, I was gone for so long that she needed to use the bathroom, she said it was the most discussing bathroom she had ever seen. read more
