    Review Highlights - Pickering Barn

It's a great space, our guests particularly enjoyed the indoor/outdoor reception in the Dairy Barn with doors open to the patio.

My daughter has taken some classes here so my review is based on our experiences coming here…read more The facility has staff at the door to get you to the right place or take your payment. There is a day use fee but they offer punch cards for regular use. The gym is huge. Has upper seating area. It is 3 basketball courts they place baby gates between for multiple classes. Jazzercise is going on at one end while my daughter has volleyball at the other end. The coach struggles to talk over the music of that other class. It is carpeted as well. They have lots of kid classes available here. And there are some classroom areas, so things like Tai Chi can happen in a less loud environment, but it's not perfect. There is a walking track around the gym upstairs but it costs to walk ....$3. I like this place b/c they offer classes my kids want to try. Younger kids have plenty of sports leagues to enjoy. They have a gym and you can get a good workout here without joining a gym elsewhere. It's nice when the community center is clean and offers a lot. We enjoy utilizing this place. They do not charge extra for non city residents like most of the cities around here.

Summer Concerts in the park here are a win…read more The music has been good so far, each week a different musical genre/band entertains the crowd which is made up of friends ranging in ages from newborns to 90. There's plenty of open space for the kids to run wild, for the adults to deploy their dancing skills and to relax on a Tuesday night with your chosen group. They don't allow you to bring beer or wine which likely keeps people under control, but, removes a certain sophistication from some meals with friends as we try to one up each others culinary whimsy for picnic dinners. I must say that a glass of wine can really up the taste of my food. Highly recommend going at least once this summer for the people watching, the competitive food selections spread out on our blankets and the joy of being outdoors on these gorgeous summer nights.

Located inside 24 hr fitness in Issaquah. Go up the stairs and it's to the right. Super cool, open,…read moreclean arena and still has the new shine to it. We went as a small group of kids to try out a class on a Sat afternoon. Kids were exhausted after! They loved the fact that they got to learn from Tim Schnee who has competed on American Ninja Warrior 5 times. My son was really wanting to do the ramp like his friend and Tim was right there giving him pointers and cheering him on. The next run my son nailed it and was super proud. I love the enthusiasm the staff had for the activities. In the past, places that had activities even like this seemed to be run by high school kids who weren't really even interacting with kids. This was a legit professionally run ninja place. They set up a course that was challenging yet had all levels incorporated. There were short cuts built in to it. At the end they even had a green button/buzzer the kids could use to signal they completed the course. There's a bathroom and water fountain right there next to the course. No need to go outside at all into the 24 hour fitness area for anything. Lots of bench seating available for parents. If we weren't so stuck with sports on the weeknights and weekends already we'd sign up for the 6 week class. For now, I think it will be our new bday party spot or coming back for a drop in time. Thanks Tim for getting the kids pumped up today and making em all feel like real ninja warriors! Will def be back.

We ultimately decided to stop because the class no longer felt consistently safe to us…read more The head coach appeared to show clear favoritism toward certain children, while other kids received far less supervision and assistance during activities. During hanging and obstacle exercises, there were moments when children needed help but no coach was nearby to assist or spot them safely. For a ninja-style program involving climbing, swinging, and elevated obstacles, consistent supervision and equal attention to all children should be a basic expectation. What was also disappointing was the lack of concern or follow-up when we chose to withdraw. No one asked why we were leaving or seemed interested in understanding our experience, which left us with the impression that parent feedback and individual student experiences were not being taken very seriously. For parents considering this program, I would recommend paying close attention not only to the facility itself, but also to how consistently all children are supervised, guided, and included during class.

Beware of Renting Blakely Hall in the Issaquah Highlands…read more On Saturday October 12, 2024, my wife and I rented Blakely Hall in the Issaquah Highlands (operated by the Highlands Council) to host a baby shower for our son and daughter-in-law with about 30 friends and family in attendance. We reserved the hall for 4 hours from 10 AM to 2 PM at an hourly rate of $150, or $600 total for the event. The guests of honor were late arriving at the shower (they had a couple of errands to run), and so we stayed a bit beyond 2 PM to finish cleaning up. A few days later we received an e-mail from the manager of the facility saying that we had stayed an extra 38 minutes. Per their policy, they rounded that up to 1 hour and charged us twice the normal hourly rate for being tardy vacating the facility, or an extra $300. We tried calling them twice to discuss what happened, but they never returned our calls. We then e-mailed them to explain what happened and to see if we could get the overage charge reduced (per their website we could have simply added an extra hour for $150 when we made our reservation). We agreed that an extra $150 was warranted for not leaving by 2 PM but that doubling the charge to $300 seemed punitive and unfair. They replied that doubling the hourly rate as a penalty was their policy and they would not work with us to lower the charge. We never heard from them again. I would caution anyone thinking about using this facility either to look for an alternative venue or at the very least be aware of the onerous way that the facility is managed and plan accordingly. We will certainly never use this facility again or recommend it to anyone.

This is a feat when 50-60 men and women bring their own beers and bar snacks all gather together and leave crumbs and debris on the floor. The cleaning staff here do a great job here. The open space in Blakely Hall is a great spot if you want to host a shower, birthday party, auction, or a charity event. It's spacious and we're able to fit 8 full size poker tables with room to spare. There's also a large kitchen with two french door refrigerators and ovens, so if you're planning on catering a party, you can do that as well. Blakely Hall is located in the Issaquah Highlands near residential area. It's tucked in a place with lots of houses and townhomes. The positive is that there's plenty of street parking and you're in a safe area with plenty of foot traffic. I love coming here once a month to play poker. It absolutely beats playing in a garage or an old hall built in the 1950's with no heat or air conditioning. It's not like I'm playing in a players-only club from the movie Rounders, but I enjoy a nice clean modern venue. If you're looking for a spot to host an event, check out Blakely Hall.
