Couldn't have asked for a more perfect location for what we were looking for! That being said, there are definitely some limitations with this venue, so I've tried to list them below. Pros: - Very affordable, even on a Saturday afternoon/evening in the middle of the summer! (check their website for current rates: https://www.kirklandwa.gov/depart/parks/Permits_and_Reservations/Facility_Rentals/heritage_hall.htm#rentalhours). - No limitations on catering/bartending. You can hire whoever you wish to cater! - Air conditioning! This wasn't something I thought would be such a big benefit, but this summer the heat was atrocious and having the AC was such a relief. - 2 bathrooms (one on ground level, one downstairs). - I feel like this beautiful location was made for a wedding. Guests could flow so easily between each space (ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner), there were fantastic spots for wedding photos (e.g., the steps in front of Heritage Hall, the dock of Kirkland Marina Boat Launch, the huge gazebo at Marina Park Pavilion), and there were tons of bars just down the street in downtown Kirkland to choose from for the after party (we went to Flatstick Pub!). - The ladies at the City of Kirkland were so nice and easy to work with. I was planning this entire wedding from across the country and they answered all my questions and tried to help out in every way possible leading up to the big day. The indoor part of this venue is only an option for those with a small number of guests (max capacity in the Hall is 70). We only had a wedding of 62 people, and I still had fears about fitting everyone inside Heritage Hall and having them seated for dinner. It ended up working out, but the tables and chairs weren't the recommended distance apart that all the stuff online suggests so I'm sure everyone felt cozy. - Parking. Not the most fun because there is no dedicated parking for events and the spaces directly around Heritage Hall are all metered or time-limited (e.g., 4 hours, which wasn't long enough for our wedding). I think our guests either parked farther away or moved their cars halfway through. - No chairs/tables for outside. The venue comes with 15 rectangular tables and 70 chairs that you can use inside of the Hall, but you have to separately bring or rent chairs and cocktail tables if you wish to have any outside. You also can't have equipment dropped off in advance or left beyond your rental period, so you need to pay to have same-day drop off and pick up. It ended up costing over $500 to hire a rental company just to drop off and pick up 52 chairs and 4 cocktail tables w/linens, so that was an extra expense I hadn't initially anticipated. - No AV system. This isn't really an issue inside Heritage Hall because the space is small enough it's easy to project your voice, but we ended up renting an AV system for $200 to use outside for music/mic during the ceremony and dancing. If you do this, just note there is only 1 outlet on the outside of Heritage Hall on the patio, so you may need to get extension cords. - No real kitchen (only mini-fridge). This might be an issue if you plan on having true catering or need to keep items cold. - Alcohol could only be beer and wine; no cocktails, hard liquor, or beer kegs. This was fine for us, but if you plan on having signature cocktails, you'll need to look elsewhere. Overall, if you are looking for space to host a small, simple wedding with no frills but amazing grounds and easy access to other locations for catering options, photos, and after party, I can't recommend Heritage Hall enough.

It was great for so many reasons - we could say, Hey our location only holds 60 people so we have to keep it small, sorry! The people at the city of Kirkland were so easy to work with, and it had air conditioning (which was great for our 95 degree wedding day on June 30th)! The slight downside of working with the city is that you can only preview the location during weekday working hours, and you only get 15 minutes to walk around, but believe me, that's all you need. We were all worried we would be rushed, but we walked in and you enter right into the room from the front doors, and it's all right there. There is a bathroom downstairs you could get ready in that you can't really see from the info on the website. There are plenty of tables and chairs available as well, but they are only to be used indoors, which worked out great for us. You can't find a better location right next to the water for the same price point. We were very pleased!

Be aware that if you think booking this venue will help you save money, I assure you it might not be the case. Before you book, be aware that... - The venue no longer provides help in the set up of tables and chairs (they did previously) - You must do the set up, tear down and clean-up for your whole event (for full service caterers, they may clean up their portion of the venue use, but otherwise everything else is on you and who you delegate) - Their decor allowances are quite strict (no tape anywhere, no blowing bubbles down the aisle, no fog machines or anything of the like inside and more strict on what you can do outside, etc.) - They made lots of structural changes to their courtyard area, make sure you visit before your wedding as this may change your decor plans (and there are no updates on this type of info) - If you book a Saturday event during wedding season, be warned you will not be able to enter their dressing rooms until after their farmers market has ended--which means you'll need to stay close to the venue or get a hotel/airbnb for you, friends, guests as needed (hair/makeup or showers for folks helping you set up) - During our event, all the mics they made available to us died (once in the middle of the ceremony, once during our thank you speech, once during a toast...) - They also did not set up a projector screen after multiple confirmations with us (only they are allowed to set this up) If I were to do it again, I'd recommend just investing that time and money you'd be spending here on a venue that does more of it all-inclusively. You'll be able to spend more time with family, friends and enjoy yourself more on your wedding day. This is a great venue for smaller parties, keeping decor very simple or larger parties with buffet style dinners.

Doug and Penny have major attention to detail and always have the bride and groom at the center of decision making. We did have an unfortunate event occur at some point during the day. The Grooms Suite was robbed and all the groomsmen (including groom) had items stolen including phones, keys, wallets, and bags. We even had a groomsman get his car stolen. The bridal party kept it from us to make sure we still had the best day ever, but it was still very traumatic and deeply upsetting. It was disappointing to find out the venue did not have any working camera security system (we were told it was an older system that wouldn't connect to their new phones) or secure place for the boys to put their valuables. After speaking with the owners the following day, they verbally expressed that they'd be installing better camera security systems, a safe in the grooms suite bolted to the wall to keep valuables, and barbed wire lining the fence line behind the grooms suite to detract intruders. This made us feel confident they were taking proper precautions to prevent this type of incident in the future. The wedding industry in the greater Seattle area is very small so it didn't take long for us to be put in contact with another couple just a few days later who had also gotten robbed the year prior. After connecting with them, it was clear the incidents were not related. However, they were also told by the venue that they installed new security system and a lock on the grooms suite (which our bridal party was never told about to utilize for our event). We were concerned that if this other couple had been told those things, then why a year later was the "new" security system too old to work or connect to their phones? We reached back out to Penny and Doug to clear the air and get confirmation they actually were implementing the changes they promised us several days prior. We were met with a very defensively toned email placing blame on our bridal party for not utilizing the lock (which we were never told about and never given a code to) and blaming our groomsmen for leaving their valuables unattended (which they did not, our coordinator - who happens to be affiliated with the venue - took all our groomsmen's valuables as they were lined up for the ceremony and placed them in the unlocked grooms suite herself.) They also provided 4 photographs in the email response: - the lock that was installed after last years incident (the lock we weren't provided a code for) - a box of barbed wire that they were planning to install (at the time of the email, it presumably hadn't been installed yet) - screenshots of the view of the security system they installed last year (again, why did it magically not work on the night of our event) - a tiny lock box that's small enough to walk away with (note, it's not bolted to the wall in the grooms suite like they previously told us they'd be doing) My husband and I have remained patient and understanding through this whole situation because we truly understand that this type of incident can happen anywhere. What doesn't sit right with us is the resistance to prevent something like this from happening in the future. It happened to us and it's unfortunate and we're moving on and remembering the good parts of our day. But at the end of the day it would eat us alive if it happened to another couple and we didn't do everything in our power to prevent that because it's been an absolute nightmare (at the time of writing this review, the stolen car has still not been recovered) This is not a review to avoid Carey Gardens. To reiterate, they took the absolute best care of us. However, we felt it would be a disservice not to warn future brides and grooms to please please take advantage of the new safety features that Doug and Penny have claimed they're installing.

The parking lot is huge, the place is easy to find, right off the road, but it feels peaceful and secluded. The proprietor, Autumn, met us there to go through the electronics and the other details, and before I showed with all my snacks and flowers, she'd already put white tablecloths on all five (huge) tables, and pulled out additional smaller tables for pictures and memorabilia. Everything was spotlessly clean, including a large bathroom and cloakroom. Really, we couldn't have asked for more. I whole-heartedly recommend this venue!

The field was easy to navigate and the aisles were wide enough we could walk down them and not feel like we were hurting the plants. Jerry picked us nice flowers to match the kiddos outfit colors and Angela wrapped them up for us to make our trip home less stressful. They recommended a nice spot by the river to have a snack and enjoy the nice labor day weekend weather.
