The fabric selection at Picking Daisies is simply the best. The owners are sisters who are experienced in curating the newest prints each season. There are no leftover fabrics in this store. This results in a large and outstanding collection of the freshest cottons! In smaller amounts there are solids, flannels, knits for garments, woven fabrics, interfacings, notions, wooden clappers, patterns, books, corduroy, wide backs, oilcloth, liberty prints, minky, embroidery kits. But the best is the display of sample quilts and projects hanging on the walls to inspire those of us who love to sew! Oh, but absolutely the best is the treat of talking to DeeDee and Kaye who are so lovely, experienced sewists, ready to encourage and help. Prices are reasonable for quality fabrics. This is such a cute store! I went in looking for flannel fabrics and they had a few bolts of woven flannel, I wasn't expecting them to have any at all so that was nice. Unfortunately none of them worked for my current project but I will definitely be back when I need fabric for other crafts! The person at the counter was very friendly and even told me about another local fabric store that has flannel fabrics. I got the crazy idea to sew a king sized christmas quilt for my mom last year... I have zero experience sewing, so I bought a machine and googled quilting shop, Picking Daisies popped up and I loved the name, so I went in with my sister one day. I was so nervous to tell the women in the shop what I was doing/ask for some help because I thought they would tell me that I wouldn't be able to do it... I was so wrong! The women here were so helpful! They spent over an hour helping me pick out my background fabric, backing fabric, giving me tips and tricks on how to make my project do able. (Plus they had extra background fabric for every time I made some cutting errors :) They even sent us to different stores when they didn't have the supplies we needed in their shop! With their help I was able to make my first sewing (& quilting) project a king size quilt, my mom still talks about how surprised she was and how much she loves the quilt! I have since brought the quilt into the shop to show the women who helped me, and brought my aunt who is an avid quilter and came to visit us in SLO this January... after visiting Picking Daisies, she asked "can we come here every year?" They started by doing napkins, and still have a stunning selection available. I've taught people to sew using their napkin kits, which make it all very straightforward and satisfying. They're also a very good quilt shop, with modern and inventive fabrics. And they're getting more and more really good clothing fabrics, not a huge selection but all of it very interesting. They also have a good array of indie sewing patterns for your instant gratification needs. And should you be lacking inspiration you can almost always just look at what great creations the sisters are wearing today. I have several 'Daisy shirts' that started that way :-). I found this cute shop by going to Joliene's bakery (also in the Creamery). Joliene's has the cutest napkins and when I asked where they got them she told me Picking Daisies! I LOVE when local businesses support each other! So I stopped by today and the women there were so kind and accommodating to my needs. I can't believe they've been here for 13 years and I've only learned about them now! I don't sew, but they make me wish I did. They have an amazing variety of fabrics and several sewing patterns for sale. They also cater to the quilting community so if you fall in that group I'm sure you would appreciate this store. They are currently making some cocktail napkins for me and soon I will be ordering some dinner napkins once I decide which prints I want. Such a great shop! It was featured in Quilt Sampler magazine (fall 2019) and when we were vacationing up the coast I thought I'd pop in. I bought some fabric and some handwork. They carry Dropcloth items which is a rare find and treat! When I got home I realized I made an error in not buying a complete kit of a project I liked. I just bought the main piece. We stopped in here years ago on a trip to Cayucos and bought some of their wonderful napkins. Every time we use them reminds us of that great store and trip. They've held up spectacularly over the years, keeping their color and resisting stains. Just ordered a dozen new ones for the holidays and they arrived quickly and look just as great as the last ones. I've only interacted with this business via the web, but they were so excellent I wanted to write a review about their operation here on Yelp. I found out about Picking Daisies through the Joy the Baker's blog (www.joythebaker.com). I also attend an event with Joy where one of the party favors was a set of napkins from Picking Daisies. They are BEAUTIFUL, fun, and a great conversation starter. The prints are super unique and totally fun. So after utilizing the napkins for several months, I was set on utilizing Picking Daisies for some Christmas Gifts. It's hard for me to get up to SLO from LA, so I used their website. I selected a number of napkins, but I also found some other great items- bags, placemats, aprons, etc. I settled on buying two reversible bags from my in-laws as holiday gifts. I got to pick the fabrics myself, which added a nice custom touch. Again, their fabric selection is AWESOME. The prints are unique- you won't find anything like them at JoAnn's- and they feel super high-quality. I placed my order and got immediate confirmation of the purchase. They arrived neatly packaged with ribbon and a candy cane for the holidays. I am thrilled and am going to have to remind myself that these items are GIFTS and not for my personal collection :) I'll definitely be returning to Picking Daisies in the future! read more

We already had eight of Picking Daisies' napkins from a visit to SLO last year, and we tried to stop by the shop on our last visit and found them closed. However, we saw through the window that they had some really cool new fabrics, so we decided to just look online when we got home. We found several gorgeous fabric choices, and ended up buying a set of all the colors of the "plum rose" pattern. Kathy emailed a thank you upon getting our order, and told us approximately when they'd ship. She then emailed us again when they shipped with a tracking number, and we received them a few days later. The entire online shopping experience was professional and attentive, everything I hope for when making a purchase online. The new napkins are so pretty, we're excited to have more dinner parties to show them off! We love Picking Daisies' linens, they're so well-made, soft, durable...everything a napkin should be (including multi-colored to hide stains!) This store makes me happy. Just imagining a successful business based on sewing napkins in an amazing assortment of patterns and colors! Why didn't I think of that? Okay, I actually make my own napkins. We try not to use paper napkins or paper towels at home. So actually I mostly window shop here.
