After the instructional session, we were provided info on how to participate in the future with regard to signups and finding other players. My friends and I wanted to start improving. So advertised 2.5-3.5; where can we go wrong? However, if you don't know their secret handshake, you are going to have a better time in Jonestown on Koolaide Thursday. Got placed on the Championship court game one where all the guys were 5.0's. They knew each other, and I felt like a leper; Step 1 to get better didn't happen. Game 2 same. Game 3 same. So easily the top 15 participants at supposedly 2.5-3.5 was a sham. Ironically, we got there early and shopped the gift shop. The guy in charge knew we were not very experienced, so play hardo and placed me with the 5.0's. Well, he participated too and played with a friend and purposely played horribly. Then 2 games later, against my friend, he easily was a 5.0. Again, the secret handshakes all over again. So I suggest going to the dark web and finding the secret handshake, or go to Tom Sawyer or Pickle and Pong. The elitest hardos and Pickle Dysphoria. All three of us will not be going back.

The coach was professional and hysterical -- constantly reminding the whole group that only people from Indiana are allowed to let the ball bounce twice. The rest of the tennis club staff was professional and helpful, especially when it came to navigating the maze of indoor courts. The beginner lesson was only $10 for the hour -- a great deal for some exercise and lots of fun.

A quick disclaimer - my review is more an overview as I was there for an event not a paid class. Last weekend, I had the opportunity to attend an event with the Louisville independent Business Association (LIBA) at Turners. LIBA had several of the instructors available to show folks how to do beginner moves on the equipment which included silks, trapeze bars, and hanging hoops. I'm getting over a cold, so didn't try it out for myself, but everyone who did had a great time! The instructors were so helpful (and flexible) with participants ranging in age from grade school to senior citizens. They demonstrated how to use the apparatus and then talked people through the basics. During a talk later in the evening, one volunteer said that the club has been producing a circus for over 60 years and that people of all ages participate. She had taken up aerial training in her 30s after having two kids! The friend that went with me was interested in a private session so we checked out their brochure. They offer memberships, classes, birthday parties, and private sessions all at very low cost (way below most gym or club memberships). We had such a great time watching other people try it out, I think we'll be organizing a ladies' night soon so we can see if we're up for the challenge!

What I appreciate most about the club are the friendly people. The lifeguards, swim coaches, snackbar staff, and Chuck Cooper consistently work hard to ensure an excellent experience. The front desk staff are always welcoming, and management frequently reaches out to members for feedback on improving the club. They also do a fantastic job of keeping membership rates consistent. For instance, they allow me to add my wife to my membership during the summer for an additional fee, and then I can return to my previous single membership at the same rate when summer ends. The central location of the facilities, along with the friendliness of both the members and the staff, makes this my favorite place to work out in Louisville. It's been wonderful still having the pool open outside. Most outdoor pools close on Labor Day. Blairwoods is open year round! Thank you!
