I had occasion to visit the area recently. My usual accommodations were no longer available and…read moreafter traveling all day, I needed a room for the night. This is a newer hotel and I was able to make a last minute reservation. Although they are set up for extended stay, it didn't seem much of a bother to book me for just one night. I was greeted by a pleasant front desk and everything went smoothly. I was pleasantly surprised upon my arrival. They are located a short distance from I-69 along US-231. Close enough to be convenient to travelers, but far enough away to avoid a lot of highway noise. The facility in general is very nice. My room could easily accommodate me for an extended stay. About the only thing I found missing was dish soap for the few items I used while there. When setting up reservations, I asked for and received a military discount. Other standard discounts are also available. If you are traveling along the pleasantly rolling hills of I-69 in southern Indiana, this would make for a restful evening. I highly recommend!

They call us and make my husband go back once again to the front desk (3rd time) to formally check into THIS room. Then we find some nasty curly hair on the bed. Avoid this place.

West Baden has now become a regular family destination. My family -- plus my mom, stepdad, siblings…read moreand their families -- just finished our second trip here. And it's safe to say that West Baden is now a family tradition. My parents spent a few days there to celebrate their anniversary, and then the kids all came to stay the last night, during Easter weekend. And we made the most of it. We started with bowling and pizza at the new Ballard's at the Atrium (see my review on that). My older niece then watched all the kids in one of the hotel rooms, while the adults got a drink in the expansive atrium and enjoyed looking up at the picturesque dome ceiling. The next morning, which was Easter, we found a quiet sitting area on our floor to have an Easter egg hunt with all the kids. These are memories we will cherish. We popped over to French Lick for brunch, though the Easter brunch set up in the atrium definitely looked delicious too. The staff is always excellent. We were able to call and get all of our rooms next to each other, which helped. Thanks for another fabulous mini-vacation, West Baden!

More like covered event space. Wedding perfect. Room was clean. Beds are not very comfortable. Killed my back and my husband's. We had a two bedroom suite which was the perfect size for the four of us. It had two balconies overlooking the atrium which I will never, ever book again. Too loud! All night long too loud! Even from the sixth floor, even with earplugs. Only exterior view next time for a stay. I would return next year for all of the holiday events. My kids loved this trip because of all the new experiences they had. Lots of things to do in the area that get you outdoors. Lovely part of Indiana in the Autumn (when we visited).

We rented the castle for our wedding weekend, including overnight accommodations for our family, and while we appreciated the unique setting, he repeatedly crossed boundaries during our stay. Throughout our wedding night, Douglas frequently entered or attempted to enter our rented spaces uninvited, including coming down to our side of the castle and asking us to turn off lights to save electricity. While I can understand wanting to conserve energy, several guests returned to their rooms after leaving lights on and found them off, which was unsettling and felt like someone had been in the room. We paid a significant amount for the venue, and it's hard to imagine that the cost of electricity would come close to what we paid for the event. The situation made us and our guests feel like our privacy wasn't being fully respected during what should have been a private and personal celebration. During the rehearsal and throughout the weekend, Douglas made several comments that felt unnecessary and intrusive. During the rehearsal, he told my husband and I to "act like you like each other" because he felt we weren't standing close enough at the altar, though there were much more appropriate ways to make that suggestion. He also repeatedly remarked on my hair being down, referencing medieval customs. The frequency of these comments over the rehearsal, wedding night, and breakfast the next morning made the interactions uncomfortable. Our parents and other guests also noticed how he spoke differently to the younger adults in our group, often in a condescending tone. During the reception, Douglas and Josephine helped clear plates as guests finished eating, which we appreciated. However, a few guests witnessed Douglas taking a plate of food and a cookie from our catering as he returned to his side of the castle. We weren't upset about it, but it did feel odd since it hadn't been discussed beforehand. The venue itself is stunning, but couples considering booking should be aware that the owners remain very present and involved throughout the event. Sometimes in ways that make it difficult to fully relax and enjoy your celebration.

French Lick Springs Hotel somehow manages to feel both grand and incredibly relaxing. The wraparound porch quickly became one of our favorite places. We spent a ridiculous amount of time rocking in the chairs, enjoying the gorgeous weather and taking in the peaceful views. It felt like stepping back to a time when people weren't in such a hurry. One thing I didn't expect was how convenient it was to explore the area. The complimentary shuttle was fantastic. We rode over to the casino resort, spent hours walking the grounds and exploring the restaurants, and on the way back the driver even dropped a few guests off at CVS and simply told them to call when they were ready for pickup. It's little touches like that that make you feel genuinely taken care of. Our room service breakfast was another highlight. Everything arrived hot and beautifully presented, from the biscuits and gravy to the fresh fruit oatmeal and perfectly cooked breakfast. Starting the morning with breakfast by the window overlooking those incredible grounds was hard to beat. The hotel itself has so many little spaces to discover. We wandered through the historic bathhouse, found a billiards room tucked away, admired the architecture, and never once felt rushed to get back to our room. Every hallway seemed to tell another piece of the hotel's history. And yes... The robes absolutely deserve their own paragraph. They're still some of the most comfortable hotel robes I've ever worn, and I'm standing by my original statement--you won't want to take them off. French Lick is one of those rare places where the destination and the hotel are equally memorable. We left already talking about coming back during another season just to experience it all again. The house has two bedrooms and bathrooms, a nice, fully equipped kitchen and a patio/deck with a gas grill. There is a washer and dryer in the first-floor bathroom. Our third person stayed on the hideaway bed, but we also found a nice twin mattress set upstairs. The house was clean, cozy and really nice! We were within walking distance of everything in town. There was only one potential snag in the whole experience....our GPS's had us all turned around (we were on 5 motorcycles), so we ended up asking some police officers that were parked at the gas station where the house was. We would never have found it, had we not gotten an escort from the nice police officer! He knew the house and said, "Follow me--it's tricky." The street sign had two names on it, with the one we needed to see, all covered up by tree branches. Note to the lovely Vesta: Please warn people of this, because it would be nearly impossible to find in the dark. Be sure to bring TP, paper towels, a sponge and dish soap. We'll stay there again. It was a wonderful house and a great deal!

They handled it well and were apologetic when it wasn't their fault. Bed comfortability is what you would expect, there is a mini fridge in the room as well which nice. They don't seem to enforce the mask rule here with guests which has me concerned for how well the rooms and surfaces are being cleaned. The walls are paper thin, could hear the water very loud and clear when someone decided to take a shower after midnight. I'm used to places having fluffy pillows, not the case here, the pillows are very thin and flat and not comfortable. I recommend using three or just bringing your own.

I was able to stay overnight on Thursday, 12/29 and was so pleased to see a light show when driving in. In addition, the lobby was decorated for Christmas and every need was met between a soft, comfortable bed to sleep in along with the availability of drinks and snacks. There was an electric fireplace to add to the ambiance and a really nicely done bathroom. I couldn't have found a better place to stay in the area near Goose Pond.

We enjoyed many drinks and some typical bar fare along with some conversations with the locals. The atmosphere was incredibly welcoming and homey. We walked back to our cottage and had a comfortable slumber. It was a great stay and I can't wait to return!
