My wife and I recently had a wonderful stay at the Showers Inn. We had a second floor room in the Composer House. It was wonderful. The balcony was a joy. What a great place to read! Our breakfast the next morning was also wonderful. The employees were very nice and accommodating. I should note that our stay was not during the school year. One other reviewer has reported that the Composer House can be noisy when IU is in session and I can believe that's the case. Student apartments are nearby. I'm sure my wife and I will be back, but we will watch the academic calendar closely. read more

In terms of charm and a peaceful, safe setting, this place definitely fits the bill. The staff communicates very well and are very hospitable. I booked the Showers Inn because the Hilton was already booked during the days I planned my visit to Bloomington. Being a fan of the Great American Songbook, the Composer House piqued my curiosity and I booked the Stardust room. (Every room in the separate Composer House is named after a Songbook tune, with Hoagy Carmichael being aptly represented.) I found the Showers Inn parking after seeing a sign that said parking was in the back. I was happy not to have to deal with street parking. The parking lot was in between the Composer House and the Main House, so it was a happy medium between the two Inn homes. The locations for Guest Registration were clearly labeled and easy to navigate. The hotel receptionist welcomed me and walked me to my room, which was so nice of her. I also got some homemade cookies upon my arrival. Room Pros: I loved how spacious my room was and that I had a fireplace. The bathroom was also incredible and had some cute toiletries. Room Cons: Slight draft coming in from the door next to the bed. Cleanliness of the fridge was an issue, too...I opened the fridge to find a rotten banana in there. Yuck. Also, the towels were pretty stinky. They need to up their laundry game. Breakfast is served from 7-9 a.m. and it is a very nice spread of delicious homemade items. The people are very friendly and explain what everything is. Moreover, the other guests are kind. I made a friend who was also traveling solo and we had a nice breakfast together. Despite some minor hiccups in terms of the room's cleanliness, I really enjoyed what Bloomington had to offer and that I got to experience a welcoming stay at the Showers Inn. It offers a wonderful sense of warmth and solace. I am happy I was able to relax there and enjoy this location that had far more character than any nearby chain hotel would. read more

The owner was very kind and allowed a slightly early check-in since the room was empty, and was happy to talk about the property. It was a late Tuesday evening when I realized that Valentine's Day was quickly approaching. I thought it would be a wonderful time to take my Girl on a weekend excursion to the famed Bloomington, Indiana, so I began scouring the Dark Web for the best accommodations in town. I realized shortly thereafter that the Dark Web was no place to search for lodging. So, I went to the Light Web and, after considering the Best Value Motel by the McDonalds, discovered what I can only refer to as "Showers Inn Bed & Breakfast". I was intrigued by the fact that this establishment had not only a shower and a bed, but also a breakfast. As a man of taste and wealth, I knew that the breakfast would have to be spectacular, or my experience would be distasteful and I may think negatively about it as I fall asleep for some time. I read everything on the website, and used the "inspect element" feature of my web browser in an attempt to detect malicious code or malware that could be used against me or a loved one. I am happy to report that their website appears to be completely safe, although I have no training or knowledge in computers. The one sentence that sold me on Showers Inn Bed & Breakfast was their promise that the breakfast would be from stove to table. You could say I was hooked. They got me. They knew my kind of language. We were meant to be. I found a room that seemed large enough for two but small enough to still feel like you are in a single room with an attached bathroom. I booked the room, didn't pay for it, and waited patiently for an email confirming what I already knew to be true -- that I booked a room. While I was waiting, I packed nearly every article of clothing I own, brushed my mustache and drank warm milk on my front stoop. The day arrived when our Bloomington Excursion would commence. I was already in the car, since I slept in it the night prior due to sheer excitement. I turned the key and drove straight to my Girl's house. Upon arrival, I realized I had not brushed my teeth or gone to the bathroom since waking up in my car, so immediately demanded I use my Girl's bathroom to "take care of some things". When I finished, I felt fresh and confident. Ready to take on a small part of the world - Bloomington, Indiana and the Showers Inn Bed & Breakfast. She kissed her roommate goodbye and we climbed in my very tasteful vehicle. I drove at half the speed limit to ensure my Girl would feel safe on the interstate. It took us several hours to get there, but once we did, we immediately went to Showers Inn & Breakfast. We found it easily but had to circle the block over a dozen times before we realized the parking was down an alley. I think it would be helpful for future guests to know that they are not allowed to drive through the neighboring yards to access the parking receptacle. We attempted to drive through four and were chased off by angry, frothing college drunkards who have terrible locution. Once we accessed the parking receptacle, we unloaded my closet packed in suitcases and carried everything to the check-in desk. We entered a golden lit, wood filled lobby. A soothing, almost dreamlike music provided a perfect soundscape to get my Girl in the mood. A nice lady gave us the key and all the instructions needed for a trouble-free weekend at Showers Breakfast. I had my Girl carry my bags back through the parking lot, to another building where our room was. She then carried them up the winding stairs, so I had my hands free to fiddle with the key the nice lady at the desk just gave me. We opened the door and it was glorious, from the bed to the shower everything was just perfect. There was a small gas fireplace that truly made it feel like someone else's home, since I do not have a gas fireplace. After searching for the knob for just under two hours, I turned on the fireplace to provide the ambiance of romance. I told my Girl that I would go get some adult beverages from the Store before we went out, walked down the stairs and purchased a large bottle of peppermint schnapps from the liquor store. I was excited to see my Girl had put on a very enticing dress for our big romantic evening. I poured myself a pint of peppermint and my Girl a lightly iced shot. I quickly downed my pint and tested out the most comfortable bed I have ever experienced one more time. When I woke up the next day, my Girl had left and I am wondering if she sees this could she call me. Thanks. read more

OMG! I am seriously blown away. This place is absolutely incredible. Let's start with the comfort. It is a beautiful room. The shower is great. The food was wonderful. For breakfast we had a spinach & egg strata and blueberry amaretto pancakes - so good! The location is very convenient. It is tucked away but in close walking distance to most everything. But the most wonderful part of our stay was the bed. It truly was the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in away from home. If you visit Bloomington in the near future, look for a room here first. You truly will NOT be disappointed. read more

After checking out the IU Bloomington campus, my boyfriend booked this place for a nice end to a busy, interview-filled week. He checked in early in the day and worked remotely from the desk in the room, while I was still finishing up the visit week. I think that he enjoyed that there was a Keurig and great windows in the second floor room that overlooked the courtyard (see the picture I took from outside!) I loved that this B&B was nestled in a neighborhood between other Bloomington residents and college students. My boyfriend picked it, in part, for the location because we knew we wanted to explore the downtown scene at night. We did just that and when we came back we were the only ones in the house. There were homemade chocolate chip cookies in a jar by the front desk. We took advantage of that offering and turned on and off the remote start fireplace downstairs. We then took a few cookies upstairs with us, and mused that this would be like if we had our own big house and only hung out in one room. At breakfast the next day there was a continental type breakfast set up with fresh fruit, yogurt, bagels etc., and when we got a plate full of food and picked where to sit, the cook came out and asked what kind of eggs and/or bacon we wanted. He made it to order. While we were eating, a mom and daughter also were served in the dining area.There were multiple houses on the property, so they presumably stayed in one of the other houses. After eating, we put our bags in the car and walked around downtown again. We came back and found that check out was easy - we called and left the key by the front desk. There were other people checking out the place inside, including a couple talking with a caterer in the dining area. On our way out, someone on the front steps said "Are you the ones getting married?" We smiled and said not us, but honestly, I think this could be a beautiful place for that kind of occasion. Lovely B & B in Bloomington, IN. We were greeted warmly and even though it seems I had made a date error with my reservation, they found us a room and were really nice about it. The rooms are simple but nice, clean and ample with a very comfortable bed and quality bedding. Great pillows too. Our room had an area with sink, fridge, microwave, a tub with jets and a foyer. Loved the beautiful Annabelle hydrangeas out front and my Southern teen daughter was completely charmed by her first encounter with lightening bugs as we took a turn on the porch swing. I would give this B&B 10 stars if I could!!! I needed a place to stay so booked about an hour before I arrived. The internet said "closed" but staff were in the parking lot when I came (just working) and were super friendly. The room is AMAZING. Couldn't be cleaner. Large. Bed is phenomenal (slept like a baby until the people above me awoke and started walking around - old houses are just creaky that way!). My room had a fireplace, with two stuffed chairs which were maybe the softest chairs ever made. Also had a table with straight backed chairs, which was great since I came here to do some work on the computer. Room also included mini fridge, sink, and microwave - with coffee pot, bottled water, and a bag of cookies!! (Also included, TV, which I did not sample). Free WiFi worked great. Bathroom is phenomenal. Super clean, all tile, with wall in shower AND a tub. I just wish I could stay here longer!! Will definitely be back anytime I need a retreat!!! read more

4.5! We were very pleased with our room in the Composer's Home behind the main house at the Shower's Inn property. While our arrival was a little lackluster (we had to go looking for the innkeeper in order to check in) our room was lovely. The rooms are quite modern, so if you're looking for that late-19th-century or early-20th-century antiquey ambiance, this isn't your spot. Despite the age of the buildings, the rooms are totally 21st century, right down to the flat screen and free, fast wifi. Our kitchenette was nicely stocked with coffees and teas. Between the buildings (right off the property parking lot) is a semi-private garden with a fountain that would be lovely for a small party, a mini-reunion picnic, or family gathering. The breakfast was truly delicious. It was also a nice bonus for my husband to meet director/actor Kevin Smith at breakfast, who just happened to also be staying at the Showers Inn. The proximity to campus/Union/Kirkwood/Nick's/Kilroy's can't be beat. The price was right ($$). We booked through Kayak. read more

What a beautiful and historic place to stay! We booked a room for our first anniversary and were in awe of the grounds and house. Each room seems to have well-preserved history and charm while having the necessary modern amenities. The price is comparable to a hotel, but we felt the proximity to downtown, character, friendly staff, and outstanding breakfast made it a steal! Breakfast was hot and fresh and had a wide variety of options to choose from. And I'm not talking waffle batter in a dixie cup continental breakfast, pour milk in prepackaged cereal bowl breakfast, this was homemade! We are already planning our next stay! read more

The room was not at the main inn but rather in a separate building down the block near college rentals. This meant walking in the cold to get to breakfast each day. With steps and winter weather, this could be challenging for some. On our first night there, the rental next door (a few feet from our window) had a loud party with yelling/screaming and drinking games and did not let up until 1 AM when the police came. Even then, someone occasionally opened a door or window and screamed, seemingly for good measure. (In fact, that property remained littered with beer cans the entire weekend...) Our bed sloped so that the head was lower than the foot, even though the overly soft mattress sagged in the middle. The pillows did not help, as they went flat when you used them. The light from the inn's porch was right outside our windows and easily lit up the room via an old glass-panel door at the head of the bed. So that added to our discomfort and inability to properly rest. Though the cleaning staff dumped trash in the bathroom, no liner was placed back in the can. The trash in the kitchette was overlooked and stayed there all weekend. Toilet paper was also not replenished. The coffee for the coffee maker was not replenished--neither were the sweeteners nor stirrers. Breakfast was not served until 8, so we had to spend extra cash to eat at a local restaurant at 7:30 in order to be able to travel when we needed to for reaching our next destination. We did manage to eat breakfast one morning at the inn. It was good, and the cook was polite. The hallways were noisy, as people talked outside doors at all hours. Even though the staircase was not right beside our room, it was noisy when people jogged up and down them. We could hear constant creaking and thumping from movement in the room above us. There was no one to check us out at the main desk at 9 AM--just a sign to drop our key in a box. So there was no opportunity to discuss our experience. Overall, it was an impersonal stay that felt like an uncaring, noisy hotel. The room was pretty and reasonably clean (though the bedside table was dusty). Breakfast (if you can get it) was a plus. We couldn't wait to get home so we could actually sleep. read more

Wonderful renovated grand historic home that is now a bed and breakfast. Nice variety of guest rooms, ours was the Roosevelt Room, large bedroom with king sized bed, an very nice sitting room with table to work on, our own balcony overlooking the front of the house and a generous bath room with a shower and a tub, all outfitted with historic fixtures and tile work. Large flat screen TVs in both the bedroom and sitting room, lots of windows and two large closets. The only thing that does not seem to work is the built in iPod dock to play your own music on the built in speakers in the room. The main public areas are spacious and gracious. Nice area for breakfast, and a great breakfast as well. There is a very nice and large garden and plenty of parking in their own private lot. Though there are a lot of stairs from the lot to the house. You can go to their website, but I would suggest to call them, they may offer you a better rate on the phone, they did for us, when I asked them for the type of room we were looking for. The building is very well done, the staff is very friendly, and the location is close to things, but far enough away that you are not living in a fish bowl. One note is that if you are looking for a quiet place, remember this is an old house! It is not built to muffle sound. So anything that happens in in the common rooms or the stairs is heard in your room. So I would say that anything that happens in your room, may indeed be heard elsewhere in the house. Stayed in the Composer House (not the main house that is pictured) and it is next door to a student rental with a large porch. It was a surprise that we were not in the main house and had to walk over for breakfast. At 10:00 p.m. the yelling, cursing and obnoxious behavior started and went until around 2:30. I would not recommend staying here. Just because there is a bed and breakfast next door, does not mean the students will be respectful. read more

The staff was very good to us, but several things kept this from being a great stay. There is no handicapped parking or access to the rooms. We had a difficult time getting our luggage in and out to the car. Crazy you can't park on the street right in front as it is all permit parking only. There was no shelf for soap or shampoo in the shower. Had to put it on the floor and that is very difficult to get to while in the stall. The wi-fi was a joke. Sometimes it worked, other times it didn't. It would work on one side of the room, but not on the other side. They need a router in every room, probably, as these are very thick walls and ceilings. The king bed had a nice mattress, but it seems the floor had the head end of the bed lower than the foot. I felt like I was sleeping at an angle with my head lower than my feet Breakfast was good, but there wasn't as much variety as I felt their web site touted. We stayed two nights and the second night at about 3:00 AM very loud music resonated from the house next door and that went on for over an hour. Very difficult to sleep. read more

Our stay was amazing overall. We stayed in the De Lovely, as a get away together for Christmas weekend. The room was perfect and so so cozy, with the fireplace and decor. The grounds were so peaceful and we loved the historic feel of the house. Breakfast on the first day was amazing.. no hotel breakfast could beat it. The only complaint that I have about our entire stay would be that the water does not get hot for a bath or shower (it gets warm but not hot), and we were told upon check in that breakfast was 8-11 during our stay. Well we stayed two days and on our second day which was Christmas morning, we came down for breakfast, and walked in to it being over at 9:30. This was a huge disappointment for us as we had an hour drive home and everything is closed on Christmas (to stop and eat). It put a damper on the mood and we felt as if breakfast is included in the rate we paid. We realize that the hours were on some piece of paper we were given, but also felt that it should have been clarified and not told that during our stay the hours were later than they were. We will definitely return as we enjoyed it overall, but would recommend being more clear about breakfast hours. read more

My husband and I have stayed at the Showers Inn off and on for 6 years. We love it! It is in a perfect location to walk to town and IU. The rooms are beautifully decorated with super comfortable beds and pillows!! Breakfast is gourmet, with baked oatmeal, bacon, eggs, fresh fruit, cheese platter and fresh bakery items. A friend recommended the Showers Inn for our brief stay in Bloomington. The house is very nice and the staff was super helpful and attentive. The beds were comfortable and the owners have done a nice job of maintaining and restoring the original fixtures with a nice blend of modern. An example would be the air conditioning. We stayed on an extremely hot summer day and our room was the perfect temperature all night. I admit that was a concern for a house built in 1903! The breakfast was excellent and we have nothing but good things to say about our stay. I would recommend this place to family and friends in a heartbeat! read more

This is a great place to stay. Our entire family stayed here for a wedding, and we were all impressed with the facility and the service. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The continental breakfast buffet was nicely done and had a good variety to choose from. The made to order eggs and bacon/sausage were a hit. Each of the rooms is unique. The upgrades they made during restoration/renovation are very nice, and they still managed to keep the character of house and grounds. We stayed in the Cassat room, and they had a book on the artist, as well as a print of one of her works in the room. We thought it was a nice touch. The row of windows overlooking the courtyard was very pretty, and we were pleasantly surprised to find how well they blocked the light when we closed them. The beds and pillows were really comfortable, and even the towels were of a nice quality. The public areas are comfortable as well, and we were told that the cookies are a family recipe - nice! They were really focused on making our stay as pleasant as possible. Each request we made during our stay was met with personal attention and an immediate response. I would recommend this place if you are staying in Bloomington - everyone in our party loved it. read more

while i love The location , the hardwood floors in the room , the modern kitchenette and the comfy bed , there are a few things that made me knock ff some stars here . First the noise , unbelievable how the people upstairs from me were making every single step they took like an unbearable thunder in my head , and this went on for hours . Then yes there are college kids housing next door and that can get loud too . Secondly besides making the bed and hanging the towels , they did not clean my room in the three nights I was here ! Stuff I saw on the first day here that was on the floor was still here . The toilet was never cleaned or the shower/tub during my stay . There is free parking and free breakfast . My boyfriend and I booked our room in the Composer House for the day after Christmas. We arrived really early but the host checked with housekeeping and was able to get us into the room so we could drop our things off before heading out to lunch. The room was charming, very clean, and in a fantastic location! It was insanely cold outside but we were close enough to walk to restaurants and bars and hop back to the room to warm up in between. We were the only ones at breakfast but the employees made a great spread anyway and made sure we had everything we wanted. We did have a room issue... at some point early in the morning a breaker blew and we lost heat, electricity for the coffee maker, and hot water in the bath. I called the front desk and got immediate help. He even brought me a cup of coffee from the main house since the Keurig stopped working. Again, it was very cold outside and the room was chilly enough to need a coat. The man who finally identified the breaker problem was sincere in his apology and offered some compensation for our discomfort. I didn't even have to ask. Problems happen. It's the way in which they are handled that make the difference between a bad experience and a great one. I was impressed and thankful for everyone's willingness to make things right. This will be the only place I stay in Bloomington from now on. I highly recommend it to anyone! read more

Fantastic b&b. Stayed here for a couple of days while I was in town for a wedding and was thoroughly impressed. The room was nice - spacious and comfortable - but the service knocked it out of the park. Eggs made to order each morning, and the manager Carlos was fantastic. We stayed in the second building, which was renovated and very nice, but took a look at the rooms in the main building while we were there and loved the older style of those as well. read more

During my very first visit to Bloomington IN, my boyfriend (an IU alum) found the Showers Inn through the local tourism bureau. They couldn't have recommended a better place for us! We love staying at B&B's whenever we travel, and the Showers Inn has that perfect blend of historic charm and modern amenities that a good B&B should have. Anne, Mike, and the rest of the staff were as friendly as can be. The house has been beautifully remodeled; our room (the "Sandburg") featured an original tub and brand-new shower head, pedestal sink, and flat-screen TV. We enjoyed our breakfast at a bistro table, then took our coffee out to the walled, sunken garden -- the ideal spot to spend a spring morning. The inn is quite close to campus, but we felt just enough removed from the hustle & bustle of a busy college weekend. The price was very competitive, and well worth *not* staying at a mainstream hotel. We hope to come back to the Showers Inn again soon! read more

My mother chose The Showers Inn Bed and Breakfast to house my closest friends and family during my wedding weekend in Bloomington (we had every room of the Graham house and the Composer house). We could not be happier with this decision; it exceeded all of our expectations. If you are looking for a Bed and Breakfast in Btown, you really will not go wrong with Showers Inn. This beautiful historic house has so much charm, we are so happy with the decision to stay here. The staff are phenomenal and at the same time laid back, very nice people, the conditions in the house are stellar, everything is top-notch, breakfast is unbelievably good, the chef is amazing. My husband and I were married and had our reception at the Showers Inn this past fall and, while the setting is spectacularly beautiful, our experience was, at best, trying. The event coordinator was late or forgot almost every appointment we scheduled, 5-7 total. At every meeting she appeared to be taking notes, but by the next time we met somehow she didn't have any notes and barely remembered large details we had discussed and planned at previous meetings. When she emailed us a copy of the menu, it was 100% the wrong menu and nothing on it was anything we had ever discussed putting on the menu. At one meeting, she took a 15 minute phone call during our appointment after arriving late. Not to mention, during our reception, it was discovered that she had forgotten that we had discussed having beer and wine served, had even said how much of the budget we wanted to spend on alcohol. Luckily, my in-laws had prepared for heavy drinking and had bought additional cases of wine. The coordinator had staff tap the dregs of a keg from a previous event and then ran out to a local brewery to get about 2 twelve packs of beer (we were married on a Sunday, in Indiana alcohol cannot be purchased from a store on Sundays). She never acknowledged that she forgot to supply the actual planned amount of beer and wine. But the big issue: The night before the wedding, my bridesmaids stayed the night with me in the Roosevelt room. The coordinator had told me that we would have a reduced rate on the rooms since we were having our wedding there. When I went to pay for the rooms at the rehearsal dinner, the receptionist told me I had to write a check for the non-reduced amount, until he could find the coordinator the confirm the reduced rate, rather than find her first. Later in the evening, he found me and told me he had confirmed the reduced rate with the coordinator and had destroyed the other check, he then had me write a new one for the reduced amount. The day after the wedding, not only did the coordinator tell us the first check had been destroyed, when I checked with the receptionist again to make sure it was destroyed, he said it had been. It was quite a shock two weeks later when my account for the wedding had overdrawn and I received a bank statement showing that, in fact, the check had not been destroyed, but had been kept and cashed. Aside from the money issue, my bridesmaids and my stay at the Inn was far from comfortable. The member of staff that was working at the Inn overnight, Carlos, was extremely rude to several of my bridesmaids, telling them "You're ripping us off by getting your room so cheap." It was the coordinator who had set up the reduced rate, not my bridesmaids and not me. My husband ran the front desk and bar at the Hilton in Cincinnati at one point and he knows, regardless of the rate they pay, that is never how a customer should be treated. Later, when we asked him if there was an extra blanket available, he picked a used comforter off of the floor of a different room and gave it to us. That is unacceptable. The even bigger issue: After SEVEN MONTHS of trying to get the Inn to refund the mistakenly cashed check, they have still not done so though I have been told, time after time, that the check will be coming shortly and I continue to question them about it.
