A board on which I serve comes to IU every year for a fall planning retreat and we are having more problems AGAIN. The person at the front desk last night seemed confused as he was handing out keys, then this morning I went out for a walk. I went by The Mix in the Union in the old food court at 7:30 a.m. where I saw steaming eggs, bacon, and other breakfast foods, but the doors were locked and no one was there. The sign on the door listed special hours that ended on August 10 with no current hours posted. I returned at 8:15 to find the same thing. I found an employee of Sugar & Spice, the little food shop next to The Mix, and asked him when they would open, and he went to check. He said they were setting up the register but that it should be soon. Another man staying at the hotel came by and said he had been told it would be open at 7:00. I am writing this at 8:40, and the food, while visible, is still unavailable.

I now attend a nightmare of a university, but I graduated from Indiana University as an undergrad. I did not know how to appreciate a student union or a student centered building of any sort on campus until I went to an Urban campus that is just as big as IU in population, but most of the students are older or commuters. The student union is an abomination at Wayne State -- but I would NOT have known this if I didn't go to IU for undergrad. I love the Union. I love the Biddle Hotel (the place I stayed when I was first checking out colleges as a wee high schooler). I love the Commons in spite of the still crappy food served. I love that they built a Starbucks within the union -- a REAL Starbucks (you have no idea how lucky you people are). I love the bookstore's central location and not corporately owned by B&N. I love that the place is so student oriented and run by students. Hell, I even love the UPS store (always there when I needed it most). I saw Christopher Hitchens speak in Alumni Hall. I've lounged on the super hard to get to patio. I dined in the Tudor room for brunch. I dutifully bought my books at the IU Bookstore even after they opened up another location. Quite frankly, the student union is perfect for all of these reasons and more. But, my friends, I have to tell you a secret. It's called "the South Lounge" and you can hear the Starbucks' blender whizzing from there -- but the South Lounge is really the nap epicenter of the entire campus. You have no idea how lucky you are to have such a wonderful thing. Warm light (but not too bright), not a lot of foot traffic, big comfy couches, huge arm chairs, an always burning fireplace, big tables .... just calling out for nap time. It is THE BEST PLACE on campus to catch a quick cat nap. And many many students take advantage of this place. I am ashamed to say I did not take advantage of the South Lounge until after I graduated. Then I finally, truly, became a Hoosier after an epic 2.5 hour chair nap. I wish I had a nap room at my current university, but I know when I woke up I'd smell garbage, have all of my stuff stolen, and one of the non-students yet permanent fixtures trying to crawl up next to me. For me, dear students, nap in South Lounge.

Person who answers the phone for reservations has a horrible personality. Just horrible. She is rude and acts like you are bothering her!

The eggs and biscuits & gravy were especially good--fresh, hot, and actually flavorful, which you don't always get with hotel breakfasts. The room itself was spacious, which we appreciated, but there were a couple of comfort issues. It tended to run a bit warm, and the thermostat didn't seem to cool down to the temperature we set. The air also felt pretty dry overnight. We had an accessible (handicap) shower, and while it was easy to use, it left about half of the bathroom floor soaked after each shower. That made the floor very slick, which was a bit of a safety concern. We also liked that the hotel had a pool, which is always a nice perk, but it was pretty small. Overall, a nice stay with great amenities and breakfast, but a few room comfort and bathroom design issues that could be improved.

Small food store in the front that was very reasonably priced. Rooms were clean, bright and well appointed. Didn't use room service but it was very clean and well dressed. Breakfast setup is typical for the chain and well stocked. Attendants did a great job every day that I was there and they were always cheerful. One drawback is that the gym is very limited. There is enough to get in a workout but the cardio gear is very dated. Overall, solid experience and I recommend this location for a short or long stay.

I was asked to let them know how my stay was so far ( I stayed for a week and was asked on my second day and I simply said that an extra chair in the room would be a nice touch and later on that evening I heard a knock on my door and to my surprise I was handed a chair to add to me room... WOWZERS!!! I have to give a major shout out to Ms. Johna who made sure breakfast was fresh hot and very YummyLicious every morning!!! She became my favorite and her smile was amazing!!! My only concern was/ is that my personal Grey hand towel was taken when the Housekeeper cleaned the room, changed the linen and changed out the towels she took mine. That didn't make sense to me and I did report IT and there was nothing done to replace my towel once they did a search and could not find IT. Because of that. I give them. 4 's!!!

A minor inconvenience nothing major and nothing to prevent me from wanting to come back.

One of the worst customer service experiences I've had…read more On April 24, 2026, I was traveling alone with two children, including a toddler, when I discovered at 5 AM that my vehicle had been towed and I was at risk of missing my flight. The most frustrating part wasn't even the tow--it was the complete lack of help from the hotel. I was essentially handed the tow company's phone number and told to figure it out myself. I had to repeatedly push for management involvement and ask the hotel to contact the tow company directly because I couldn't get answers on my own. Afterward, getting follow-up information was just as difficult. Emails went unanswered, I had to repeatedly request updates, and it took multiple follow-ups just to obtain basic information about my case. What really stood out was that the tow company owner ultimately showed more accountability than the hotel. He reviewed the situation, acknowledged how the misunderstanding could have happened, and refunded the tow fee. Meanwhile, the hotel's position was essentially that it wasn't their problem. I understand that mistakes happen. What disappointed me was the lack of communication, ownership, and concern for a guest dealing with a stressful situation while traveling with young children.

Beware if using digital check-in at this hotel…read more I checked in through the Hilton app, received a digital key, arrived to an unattended front desk, and went directly to my room like Hilton's digital system is designed for. Overnight, my car was towed even though I was a registered paying guest. No direct parking warning was provided in the app, no staff member was present when I arrived, and no attempt was made to verify whether the vehicle belonged to a guest before towing it. I ended up paying about $300 and losing half a workday retrieving my vehicle. Management's response was essentially "there were signs posted," despite acknowledging the front desk may be unattended and despite the fact that Hilton encourages guests to bypass the desk entirely through digital check-in. The towing practices associated with this property feel extremely aggressive toward actual hotel guests, and management showed no willingness to take responsibility or provide any reasonable customer-service resolution. If you stay here, do not assume digital check-in means your arrival process is complete. Apparently you can still be towed as a paying guest.
