Since it was Thanksgiving, the restaurant was not open that evening and the hotel was not very busy. That worked in our favor, as parking was plentiful and check-in was smooth. I also received a complimentary room upgrade, which made an already nice stay even better. The room itself was excellent and easily exceeded expectations. The next morning we ate breakfast at the hotel restaurant and were impressed. Good food, good service, and an easy start to the day. Overall, a really solid stay and absolutely worth it. This is now my new favorite hotel in Bloomington, and we will be back.

Kay and Robert's home-a short walk from downtown and the Farmer's Market-is light, airy and colorful. From the profusion of flowers in their gardens to Robert's amazing handcrafted furniture, the home is lovely, colorful and peaceful. The B&B has a European feel, perhaps because Robert is Scottish, and you feel as if you are staying with friends, rather than at a hotel. Guests enter through a garden path and comfortable three-season porch to their own private hallway. On one side is a small but functional full bathroom, and on the other is the spacious bedroom. In the bedroom, a queen bed, gorgeous armchair and ottoman, nightstands, tables and shelves share the space without ever crowding it. We enjoyed reading or working in the armchair with the windows open to the garden. The street is so quiet that we slept completely undisturbed, and almost missed the delicious breakfast the first day. Kay and Robert are thoughtful and interesting hosts, who go out of their way to make guests feel welcome. We are so glad that we discovered the Fairview Bed and Breakfast and have no hesitation in recommending it to those visiting Bloomington.

Even though it was set to 80°, the temperature never rose above 67°, while the vents blasted frigid air directly at us all night long. It was so unbearable that my husband had to stuff a towel into the vent just to block the airflow. When we called the front desk for help, we were told there was nothing they could do because the engineer wasn't available. That was the end of the conversation -- no solution, no effort, no concern for the fact that guests were left freezing in their rooms. This level of service is unacceptable for any hotel, let alone one tied to the reputation of Indiana University. Future guests should be aware: if something goes wrong, don't expect help. this hotel is poorly managed and poorly maintained.

It is easy to find if you are approaching from the north and use the business bypass to reach Walnut. Otherwise, you can head north on Walnut passed the SR45/SR46 intersection. The building has its own parking and is much larger inside than it appears from the street. Inside the first set of doors are rows of brochures (free) that you can help yourself to. I grabbed a Visitors guide and a Nature Preserve Guide for my use, but saw maps and festival pamphlets too. Inside the second set of doors, there is a central desk with someone to help you. Surrounding that area are numerous display shelves and racks for picking up merchandise that is for sale. 2018 was the Bicentennial year of the city, so there were celebratory items for reaching that goal like t-shirts. There are also posters, local artisan products like Dillman Farms jellies and salsa, and local popcorn. I found the information available to be quite useful and the person at the information desk very pleasant to talk with. She was quite knowledgeable of the area and was able to direct me to some points of interest that I had not visited before. This is a newer hotel and I was able to make a last minute reservation. Although they are set up for extended stay, it didn't seem much of a bother to book me for just one night. I was greeted by a pleasant front desk and everything went smoothly. I was pleasantly surprised upon my arrival. They are located a short distance from I-69 along US-231. Close enough to be convenient to travelers, but far enough away to avoid a lot of highway noise. The facility in general is very nice. My room could easily accommodate me for an extended stay. About the only thing I found missing was dish soap for the few items I used while there. When setting up reservations, I asked for and received a military discount. Other standard discounts are also available. If you are traveling along the pleasantly rolling hills of I-69 in southern Indiana, this would make for a restful evening. I highly recommend!

I am upset, they had no permission to pack our stuff and touch our belongings without our permission. We get new keys and get to our room, there are someone else's clothes in the closet. They call us and make my husband go back once again to the front desk (3rd time) to formally check into THIS room. Then we find some nasty curly hair on the bed. Avoid this place.
