This is a newer hotel and I was able to make a last minute reservation. Although they are set up for extended stay, it didn't seem much of a bother to book me for just one night. I was greeted by a pleasant front desk and everything went smoothly. I was pleasantly surprised upon my arrival. They are located a short distance from I-69 along US-231. Close enough to be convenient to travelers, but far enough away to avoid a lot of highway noise. The facility in general is very nice. My room could easily accommodate me for an extended stay. About the only thing I found missing was dish soap for the few items I used while there. When setting up reservations, I asked for and received a military discount. Other standard discounts are also available. If you are traveling along the pleasantly rolling hills of I-69 in southern Indiana, this would make for a restful evening. I highly recommend!

While we were gone, my husband got a call-by message- saying they gave us the wrong room. He calls back and leaves a message. They return our call and say they packed our stuff up and moved our room. I am upset, they had no permission to pack our stuff and touch our belongings without our permission. We get new keys and get to our room, there are someone else's clothes in the closet. They call us and make my husband go back once again to the front desk (3rd time) to formally check into THIS room. Then we find some nasty curly hair on the bed. Avoid this place.

And it's safe to say that West Baden is now a family tradition. My parents spent a few days there to celebrate their anniversary, and then the kids all came to stay the last night, during Easter weekend. And we made the most of it. We started with bowling and pizza at the new Ballard's at the Atrium (see my review on that). My older niece then watched all the kids in one of the hotel rooms, while the adults got a drink in the expansive atrium and enjoyed looking up at the picturesque dome ceiling. The next morning, which was Easter, we found a quiet sitting area on our floor to have an Easter egg hunt with all the kids. These are memories we will cherish. We popped over to French Lick for brunch, though the Easter brunch set up in the atrium definitely looked delicious too. The staff is always excellent. We were able to call and get all of our rooms next to each other, which helped. Thanks for another fabulous mini-vacation, West Baden!

For a property seeming to target the upper middle market, I think there is a lot of value. They have many free amenities that most no longer do - no resort fee, no parking fee, free shuttle to the sister hotel and downtown. I also feel the pricing at restaurants is somewhat reasonable, particularly at happy hour. Add in amenities closer to a luxury property - evening music, nice indoor pool almost always open, and obviously just being in the unique dome... This is a winner. We found the service to be consistently friendly. We had no issues with getting help for our large amount of stuff at check in or check out. Very nice to our dog and he got a lot of treats for the pet fee. Dining service was on the slower side but seemed to fit the vibe. We stayed in a suite with two queens. It was large. The furniture was on the worn side but well maintained. Nice to see unique furnishings vs generic all white everywhere. Plenty for the kids to do. We enjoyed the newly restored bowling alley and found it nicer than the same priced one at French Lick Hotel. We did like going to French Lick for the shopping and to read about the history. There is a lot about the history everywhere, including the small museum (a large room) in the hotel. We were very happy and would like to return.

We rented the castle for our wedding weekend, including overnight accommodations for our family, and while we appreciated the unique setting, he repeatedly crossed boundaries during our stay. Throughout our wedding night, Douglas frequently entered or attempted to enter our rented spaces uninvited, including coming down to our side of the castle and asking us to turn off lights to save electricity. While I can understand wanting to conserve energy, several guests returned to their rooms after leaving lights on and found them off, which was unsettling and felt like someone had been in the room. We paid a significant amount for the venue, and it's hard to imagine that the cost of electricity would come close to what we paid for the event. The situation made us and our guests feel like our privacy wasn't being fully respected during what should have been a private and personal celebration. During the rehearsal and throughout the weekend, Douglas made several comments that felt unnecessary and intrusive. During the rehearsal, he told my husband and I to "act like you like each other" because he felt we weren't standing close enough at the altar, though there were much more appropriate ways to make that suggestion. He also repeatedly remarked on my hair being down, referencing medieval customs. The frequency of these comments over the rehearsal, wedding night, and breakfast the next morning made the interactions uncomfortable. Our parents and other guests also noticed how he spoke differently to the younger adults in our group, often in a condescending tone. During the reception, Douglas and Josephine helped clear plates as guests finished eating, which we appreciated. However, a few guests witnessed Douglas taking a plate of food and a cookie from our catering as he returned to his side of the castle. We weren't upset about it, but it did feel odd since it hadn't been discussed beforehand. The venue itself is stunning, but couples considering booking should be aware that the owners remain very present and involved throughout the event. Sometimes in ways that make it difficult to fully relax and enjoy your celebration.

Looks are deceiving…read more The hotel is beautiful when you drive up. Looks like it's going to be quite an experience, unfortunately, for me and my husband celebrating a milestone anniversary, it was just meh. The price you pay is astronomical! The room is very basic (size of a motel room). We did receive a lovely card with chocolates for our anniversary, which was unexpected and very appreciated. Our room was tiny, without any amenities. The TV and electricity blinked multiple times and eventually we had to have a repair person come take a look. We heard little kids running the halls and talking loudly (no sound proofing at all). Thankfully we brought earbuds. The food was nothing to write home about. We ate at the steakhouse for a special dinner, but found the food to be mediocre. The atmosphere was nice. Prices matched fine dining/resort pricing. Husband's steak was bland, and his lobster bisque was barely room temp. My lobster mac and cheese was dry, I chose it as an entree because I didn't want a huge entree, it did have several chunks of meat and the Gouda sauce was creamy on the bottom of the dish. The brussel sprouts were warm, while the asparagus was not. The breakfast buffet the following morning was Golden Corral adjacent. The omelette station was the best food of the entire stay! Granted, I had high expectations after a wonderful visit to West Baden, the sister property one mile down the road, but was greatly disappointed. I'm aware this beautiful resort is a timeless spot to visit, but I don't think it meets the hype at all!!!! Very disappointed.

Fortunate enough to stay in the small, one-bedroom cottage which was very quaint. Reminded me of a family cabin as it was homey and a very casual setting. The bed was a bit harder than I like and it would be great to offer a hair dryer as they are too bulky for a traveler to pack. Overall, I lovely place to stay.

The house, over Labor Day weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday night), cost us $440 (total) for 5 people. The house has two bedrooms and bathrooms, a nice, fully equipped kitchen and a patio/deck with a gas grill. There is a washer and dryer in the first-floor bathroom. Our third person stayed on the hideaway bed, but we also found a nice twin mattress set upstairs. The house was clean, cozy and really nice! We were within walking distance of everything in town. There was only one potential snag in the whole experience....our GPS's had us all turned around (we were on 5 motorcycles), so we ended up asking some police officers that were parked at the gas station where the house was. We would never have found it, had we not gotten an escort from the nice police officer! He knew the house and said, "Follow me--it's tricky." The street sign had two names on it, with the one we needed to see, all covered up by tree branches. Note to the lovely Vesta: Please warn people of this, because it would be nearly impossible to find in the dark. Be sure to bring TP, paper towels, a sponge and dish soap. We'll stay there again. It was a wonderful house and a great deal!
