I really wish I had a better first experience. I eagerly ordered Picnic off of DoorDash after seeing this fresh new concept with great looking meals. Whole Foods, oh my!! But to my disappointment my order arrived incomplete and inedible. I ordered the Miso Mantra Bowl but they completely forgot the miso sauce, so it was purely a dry a** bowl of just greens, grains, and veggies. It was even missing the almond crunch quinoa. I also made the mistake of ordering the cauliflower Parmesan soup. The base was mostly flavorless and a weird slimey texture. The only good flavor in the soup was the pieces of parm. It also arrived underfilled. I may take 1 more leap of faith and order from here again because the photos look good. Overall I'm very disappointed in my first impression. The cost was not worth it.

I scheduled a meet up with a friend in Evanston and saw how pretty the sandwiches looked at Picnic. What I didn't realize is that the concept of Picnic is to purchase your food and "picnic". We had to quickly look for a local park to picnic at but it is an interesting concept! Ordering is easy- you use a simple touch screen. The food comes out at the counter and they have water on tap and bags to go. The place itself is like a fancy living room! Note: you cannot eat at the fancy living room set. You must picnic! The food was fresh and filling for a $20.00 salad. It easily could have been two meals. I loved how fresh everything tasted. Parking is street/lot only.

I like homemade salads as much as the next person, but you can only make the same handful of favorites so many times before you get sick of them. And buying different ingredients for new salads can get pricey. That's where Picnic comes in. For a fraction of your grocery bill and half what you'd pay at nearby dine-in restaurants, you get a healthy, filling meal. Let's start with Picnic's strengths: The food. The freshness. The variety. I ordered the Miso Mantra, and it arrived in perfect condition with the quinoa still warm. The salad was totally delicious. And the menu offers plenty of other vegan options for return visits. The downside: I had been in Evanston and had stopped by on a whim. But there's no in-store ordering. (Yeah, I kind of knew that, but forgot.) Ok, I'll just order carry-out on my phone, right? Wrong. At least on the Yelp app, it said the business was not offering carry-out. Yet standing outside shivering, I watched as other people walked in and picked up carry-out orders. A lot of customers would give up in that situation and head to one of many nearby competitors that let you just walk in and order. I don't object to businesses being Very Online, but if you're going to do that, please make sure people can actually place carry-out orders online. I hope they fix whatever glitch that was, because Picnic does an excellent job of preparing fresh, healthy food at reasonable prices. Worth some repeat business.

I really like Picnic and think they're an excellent place for a quick meal on-the-go. I completely agree with the other reviews that call them a better sweetgreen, both in terms of quality and value. Ordering is done either online or in the tablet inside the store. They're takeout only and make the orders quickly. My favorite menu items I've tried are the Rabbit Food ($9.95), Miso Mantra ($10.95), The Avo & The Egg ($11.50); they're all refreshing, tasty, and feel healthy. Some of their bowls and salads are a bit on the heavier/richer side though (especially the Sweater Weather), and some components are too salty (e.g. the everything season). But most of the items I've tried have been great, and have been plenty flavorful even without the dressing. Their desserts are from @kiki.bakes.pie . I've only tried the lemon tart ($5.25) and tiramisu ($4.75). Of the two I preferred the lemon tart.

I've been absolutely obsessed with Picnic the moment I tried it. Super generous bowls especially if you create your own. Components are all fantastic - well seasoned and there's so many to choose from. Much better value for money and honestly tastier and more filling compared to Sweetgreens. Just wish they had more kinds of protein and also cheaper protein options. Also love the interiors there (goals), and love how you can preorder stuff for pick up. Only complaint is that they don't have a dine-in spot - honestly wish they did. Also, sometimes, some components are missing whenever I place an order - they should update the POS system whenever something isn't available. Would also be great if they had some sort of loyalty program! Otherwise, one of the best bowl spots!

Picnic is the perfect spot to grab a healthy meal. It's super close to northwestern campus which makes coming here super easy, but it also delivers quickly on DoorDash! The bowls are super fresh and make you feel great. I love to build my own and choose from the roasted veggies they have. Avocado is free, too!

Interior. It's not a dine in establishment. It's a grab and go place.

One weeknight my husband came home with a delicious looking salad. I asked him where he got it and he mentioned a new salad grab and go restaurant popped up in our neighborhood called Picnic. I tried a bite of his Avo and Egg, checked out their website to look at their menu and went the following weekend. Like reviewers mentioned, there is no staff on site. They all work behind the scenes in the kitchen and the preferred method of ordering is online. Once you've paid they'll message you to let you know what time your order is ready for pick up and from there all you do is come to the front counter, take your order and go. There are so many delicious options. So far I've tried two of their grain bowls: Avocado and Egg and Miso Mantra. It's hard to compare the two because both are delicious in their unique way. The salads are not only picture perfect but are packed with a lot of healthy veggies, grains, and proteins topped with nuts and seeds for texture and crunch. They have plenty of dressing options and you can further customize your meal with the many add-ons offered. My only pet peeve with the place is that they don't offer tofu as a protein. The salads/grain bowls average at least $16 if you add a protein. They're pricey but you're paying for the quality of ingredients. I'm so glad healthy options like Picnic are in my area. I hope they do well and stick around.

One of my happiest finds. A part of me wants to gate-keep this forever but we're not really about that, so here we are. How it works is that you place the order on your phone or at the kiosk and within a few minutes your food just magically appears at the aesthetic counter ready for carry out. There's minimal human interaction from start to finish. The coolest part is that you feel like you're lounging in a calm modern oasis while waiting for your food to be ready. Aside from the experience, the food itself was delicious. We got the miso mantra and sweater weather. Both were so hearty, fresh, and flavorful. I'd go here again over sweet green any day.

Loved that they have a collab with Mensch's Deli currently. The bagels are great so I hope they become a real shop in the future. Picnic has tasty salads and are better than other grain-bowl related restaurants. The shop is really nicely decorated inside too, i love the organic modern look. Service wise, they work fast and make the orders fast. I like that it's done online and is to go. I also appreciate that they have a kiosk inside in case you don't have your phone on you.

Blind Faith Cafe has a pretty great selection of things to choose. Prices can be high but that's to be expected and usually it's worth it. The menu includes things like burgers and salads. Bigger than expected to be honest. It's got a lot of room for banquets and parties. There's quite a few tables. A lot of things to like about it. The prices are one thing not to like though. It's about $17 for the cheapest entrees. Many of these are a lot more. I got the Blind Faith Burger. Pretty typical looking. This comes with a choice of a side. She had the Gardein Chicken Sandwich, which is plant based except for the mayonnaise on it. The rest of the menu includes bakery items like cookies and pastries. For sure this is one of the pioneers of vegetarian places around the area. It's closed Mondays. They accept reservations.

I went with two friends to Metekhi. We focused on the vegetarian dishes this time (though we eat everything), and got the cold appetizer combo along with a tomato/cucumber salad; another cold appetizer with eggplant; a hot bean stew and another hot main course with mushrooms, potatoes and a little tomato sauce. The food was wonderful, and these days where you often get ripped off for really mediocre food, I was pleasantly surprised. Each dish was prepared with a lot of love and care, well seasoned, NOT overusing oil, butter or salt, and also beautifully presented. The herbal seasonings were unusual to me, but delicious. They have a lot of vegetarian/vegan options, which is really cool because I expected a menu with cuisine from this part of the world to be very heavy on meat and starches (I'm half-Polish, have been to Poland, Russia, the Czech Republic, and have tried other Eastern European and Central Asian cuisines). The decor is also really cozy and nicely decorated to convey the vibes of Georgia. Amazing how the inside of these strip malls can be transformed. Come and support this new gem in Skokie/Skevanston. I really want them to succeed, because sometimes I shake my head at what places fill crowds and get great ratings in this area. Metekhi is genuinely good. It's not cheap, but as bagel joints can charge nearly $15 for a sandwich today, it's seems to be the sad times we're in, so you want a memorable experience incl. food/service/ambience. Metekhi delivers on all three. Sharing a few dishes here with friends is a good idea.

We didn't love the pkhlovana version as much, but it was still very good (just a lot of onion flavor when we ordered). While super basic, their fried potatoes are insanely good. I'd also recommend any stew on the menu. They have a great selection of Georgian wines as well, which I highly recommend. For those who don't drink alcohol, they offer a wide variety of compotes as well. The decor/ambiance is very Eastern European. There is a coat check at the entrance which is very handy. Service is very friendly, but they have seemed understaffed the times we've gone. It did take some time to get the waitress' attention, but it also seemed that she was the only one taking orders from several tables. Definitely a slower service, but it's good for large groups to talk over a great meal.
