The dinner we ate at Pico on 2/10/21 was one of the best meals ever! We shared shrimp cocktail with a unique sauce and the Brussel sprouts with another unique sauce! My wife and I also shared the cod and the hanger steak both again with unique sauces! Get the picture? What makes Pico so different and 'Unique' are the special sauces included with each item. This was our first time at Pico. We went up there from Santa Barbara for a little one night getaway. We are very glad we did. They have a cottage you can stay in if you reserve way in advance. The food and the service were spectacular. We had the Avocado Crudo appetizer to start and it was superb. We also had the Lamb Tartar and the special mozzarella appetizer. We started with the basic Lumen Wine flight -- a sampler of 3 of their in house wines. We then had the Lumen Pinot Noir, which was really complex and satisfying. They have a really extensive wine list and they had one last bottle of 1998 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, so we got that. It was amazing. Liz, the hostess and wine expert was very helpful. I insisted that she have a taste of the wine and she seemed to appreciate it. Lyndsay, our waitress was cheerful, attentive and informative. I had the Duck entree, which was fantastic and my wife had the hangar steak. All in all, it was a really great meal and experience -- even as we are so spoiled these days as amateur 'foodies.' We dined at the restaurant one of the first nights Cameron, the new chef, had changed the menu after arriving from Stonebarn in New York. We had an absolutely fabulous meal from the wine to the food. We ordered a large selection from the menu including the beets, the hand cut linguini, the ribeye and the yellowtail and the three of us were extremely impressed and loved every dish. The absolute best meal we have had eating out in a long time. Every dish we tried had excellent presentation, unique ingredients and wonderful flavors. This was one of those meals where every bite was savored. My Little Gem Salad with leafy greens and a light vinaigrette was "refreshing ". Have never heard of a compressed green apple, but it was awesome along with the candied pecans. My wife had the grilled cauliflower with dates that she likewise raved about. She enjoyed the tender duck breast with black rice, beets and edible flowers for her entrée . I the Short Ribs with Yukon risotto. Portions were perfect to allow room for the delicious chocolate chip cookies and homemade ice cream which we enjoyed with an expresso and cappuccino. She was training a new gentleman who was just as great but during training the manager was very attentive which I appreciated. The food was also above expectation. Fantastic find in little, sleepy one-horse-town Los Alamos. definitely the high light of our visit. We rolled into town early evening on a Wednesday and there were two restaurant options, one of which was Pico. Note to those traveling to this nether region: places tend to be open Thursday through Sunday/Monday with Tuesday's and Wednesdays lights off. Just sayin'...plan well. Place had a cool vibe and a great energy and we were definitely not the only people there. This is the kind of restaurant if you were staying in Los Olivos or in Solvang you would definitely want to drive there and have dinner. It's only like 10 minutes from those towns... Anywho, Started off with the Praline Bacon, Drunken Goat cheese and the grilled cauliflower. Sounds like a lot for two people, but thankfully portions are appropriately sized so as to leave room to try many goodies! I love to be able to taste a little of everything! All of the above were just as yumdiddlylicious as fellow Yelpers have previously described. Just read their reviews. I'm sure they're entertaining. Onto the entree....ordered the Grilled Pork Secreto with black eyed peas and hush puppies and it was delicious! We were so excited to love this place, especially when they told us the new chef was from the renowned Blue Hill (which gave us one of the best meals of our lifetimes). I think perhaps they are still getting their sea legs with the new menu and format as food and service left much to be desired for the hefty price tag. Everyone was kind, and the apps we had were yummy (carrot salad was the table fave), but service was uneven and the halibut was seriously under-seasoned and dry, which was quite upsetting at $42 each (by far the cheapest protein offering btw)! It's also the only thing on the plate at that price. It should be star quality. We love this area and were excited to have a blowout meal. Bummer :/ One positive-- as a parent it's always nice to see when restaurants are cool and accommodating with parents with young kids, which they were. Edited to add that we felt surprised by the new menu and setup, as it's not what we had expected when booking the reservation a few weeks back. Had a late lunch at Pico today. The items that we ordered were different than I expected but were very, very tasty! The crunchy Brussel starter was actually a salad. Great flavor!! As I sat there, I was taken back to a time when I was in Italy, eating at a lovely restaurant on the island of Capri. I had the salmon which was perfectly cooked and flavorful. When you're visiting the Central Coast, make sure you stop in to enjoy the delicious food Chef Cameron and his team are creating at Pico! From the moment you walk through the doors of the old Los Alamos General Store, the friendly staff is there to welcome you and ensure that you will have a wonderful dining experience. Both the indoor dining area and patio are stunning! For our meal, we shared the linguini, whole branzino(apparently some of the unsatisfied customers were unaware that a whole fish has bones and skin on it?), steak frites and the kale salad. Pico's wine list is exceptional and their cocktails are quite delicious too. Service throughout our entire meal was great, and both the manager and Chef Cameron stopped by to ask how we were enjoying our meal. As I started to write this review, I noticed a couple of the more recent reviews that were written, and it appears that some guests have a hard time embracing change. I'm sure the former chef did a great job, but if his "enthusiastic regulars" are unhappy with the current menu, they have plenty of other dining options in the area. However, it is unfair for them to express their biased opinions, and potentially ruin a wonderful dining experience like we had for future customers because the current chef doesn't prepare things exactly like their favorite former "master" chef used to. Also, I could not help but comment on the one remark that was made comparing Chef Cameron to a Denny's line cook. First off, shame on that customer for insinuating that the teams at the fine establishment of Denny's do not possess the culinary skills to properly cook a steak. Secondly, in order for this person to accurately make that comment, this implies that person has dined at Denny's and ordered a steak there too. If so, does that mean they also wrote a 1-star review for Denny's complaining about their "gristly" steak? read more

The place is very pretty, but not sold on the food, liquor or prices. Been there twice lately and even told friends, but they weren't impressed either. Drinks are way too expensive and aren't very good. They don't have your normal type liquor. It's just very different if you like that sort of thing. It's been around for a while so people must like it, but probably tourists are the ones supporting it. I doubt locals can afford it unless they are from Santa ynez or Santa Barbara area. read more

I've been here three times in the last few years. It's a great stop driving to Los Angeles from San Francisco. The chef, I think his name is Drew is an owner and the food tastes like it. My husband and I love Pico! Since moving to the area five months ago we have dined here many times. The setting is very nice and all of the staff are great! The food is excellent. One of my favorite dishes is the mushroom salad, but everything we have tried is very good. Make sure to save room for the house made ice cream and fresh out of the oven chocolate chip cookies for dessert. My only criticism is that the menu is quite small and never changes very much. We would probably go more often if the menu changed more. Other than that, I would highly recommend to any of my friends, foodies included. read more
