The process and application was quite extensive, for the protection of the adopted dogs.None of the selection process ( of us) was unreasonable . The dog that we adopted was in the Barking Lot care for a year ,which speaks highly of a no kill shelter.

Their communication is absolutely terrible, and people considering adopting from The Barking Lot…read moreshould know what they may be getting into. We found a dog we were very interested in, filled out the application, answered their follow-up questions, and were told that someone would be contacting us to arrange a meeting with the dog and a home visit. We were excited and anxiously waiting to hear from them. Then--crickets. After a full week, I emailed and called to follow up. Still no response. Nothing. This is no way to treat people who are emotionally invested and anxiously waiting to meet what they hope will be their new family member. Are they really too busy to show basic courtesy? How difficult is it to send a quick email or text saying, "We're working with another applicant right now, but we'll let you know"? Or even, "We're overwhelmed and it may take us a little longer to get back to you"? Instead, they make promises about next steps and then simply ghost you. The most frustrating part is that these dogs need loving homes. It isn't their fault that the humans running the rescue have such awful communication and apparently so little regard for the people trying to adopt them. Based on our experience, I absolutely would NOT recommend The Barking Lot if you genuinely want to adopt a dog and expect even basic communication during the process. Don't tell prospective adopters someone will be contacting them and then disappear. People deserve better--and frankly, so do the dogs.

My border collie mix and Aussie are…read morereally easy going when I bathe them, but can be a bit anxious and weary of strangers - my collie mix especially. So hearing that they were able to bring him out of his shell and get past his shyness was nice to hear. They even played some fetch with him while I was on my way to pick him up! I was able to meet and talk for a bit with the owner. Really nice guy and the groomer was very sweet and upbeat!

I do not usually leave reviews, but I feel I have to share this for other dog owners…read more I brought my two year old French Bulldog here. She is one of the friendliest, sweetest dogs you could ever meet and has been to other groomers without ever having a bad experience. She usually enjoys going. This time was completely different. When I came back and asked how she was doing, I was told, "I don't know, I didn't touch her." That immediately concerned me. I could not even see my dog at first, and when I asked again, I was told she had been isolated because she was barking. When I finally saw her, she was in a small cage, shaking and clearly terrified. This is not normal behavior for her. As a dog owner, you know your dog, and something was clearly wrong. I calmly expressed that I did not appreciate how she was being handled and that something did not feel right. Later, instead of addressing my concerns, I received a message from the owner accusing me of being rude and telling me not to come back. I was not rude. I was concerned about my dog. I have taken her to multiple groomers, and she has never reacted like this. That alone tells me everything I need to know. I will never bring my dog back here and would not recommend this place to anyone who cares about their pet's well being.
