This was my first time here. I made an appointment on line. I get there this morning and they say I only made an appointment for a bath. I asked if he could get a haircut, he needs badly. They instantly said no but I could come back next week. They didn't try to fit him in or say sure but it'll take a little longer. That would've been ok. I'm in love! We took our mini poodle in for just a "Feet, Face, Fanny" package with added de-matting and ear cleaning. It only took about 15 minutes and he came back looking so much better! The staff was absolutely amazing and took the time to explain what needed to be done. My parents never take him in to the groomers and she was very patient and kind. I like this place because they don't discriminate against my sweet Chow Chow, Genghis! Both times ive taken him here, theyre friendly with how they talk to him & dont require a muzzle on him. I feel really bad, but I won't be coming here anymore. I have a really big dog, who when she was little has never enjoyed water. So she is very vocal about baths and HATES getting her nails trimmed. Half the time she is good and half the time it's hard to get them trimmed and I understand this so I try really hard to tip extra because I know my dog acts extra. However when I went to make the appointment today, the groomer just sounded like my dog was the biggest nuisance in the world.... I wish my dog could talk! But I'll believe his cues and find another groomer. I've used Bark and Collar for dog grooming half a dozen times starting in 2020. The first couple of times were great. Then, my dog seemed absolutely terrified to go in. My dog is not timid at all and is friendly to everyone, so it was unlike him. Then after a day at the groomers, I started to notice that he would cower in fear and yelp as if in pain whenever I am about to put a collar on him before a walk. He did this for months. I put two and two together and realized it started happening when I started taking him to Bark and Collar regularly. I felt validated when I started reading other negative reviews who experienced a similar situation as me. This is the main reason I will NOT be using them anymore. I want to give them all the stars in the sky! I have an old grumpy dog MacGyver that has trauma from previous nail trims. I normally have to have him put to sleep under anesthesia in order to have his nails trimmed. My vet stopped offering this service but gave me a prescription to calm him down instead. He started having a hard time walking because his nails are gotten so long it's been about a year since we have trimmed them. I just had a baby last week and the sound of his nails walking around in our house was driving me nuts. I told my husband this dog who has been my best friend for years was going to the pound. I came to the bark and collar yesterday after I gave him his medicine, with about 20 of my friends praying this would work. Although I was almost certain that it would not. Holly shelly and Alisa were amazing. They were very calming and with lots of peanut butter and hugs we were in an out in seven minutes with all 10 nails trimmed. We will be going back 2 weeks for our second round and to get him more comfortable there. Thank you ladies for making my life easier with a new baby. Not a happy dog mawm. Have been taking my bup here for a few months for nail trims. We've been doing them weekly. All was well. Not a fan of staying outside and not knowing who's working on my bup. Obviously- COVID, but that's no excuse as to why the groomer can't come out & be personable. Scheduled a full bath and groom since they've been quick, nice, and doing okay??? Their online system is DUMB. I schedule an appointment and then they have to call to schedule a real appointment.. WHAT IS THE POINT!? GET UP TO SPEED IN 2021 AND GET A REAL BOOKING SYSTEM. It also clearly states her profile and that she's a cavapoo so LEARN TO CUT CAVAPOO HAIR... Anyway, it worked out because someone recommended Candace (who I now see is the owner- oof rough) When I got there, the receptionist was nice and doing her job- I was very VERY specific as to what I was looking for. I asked her if she was doing it and she said no... (wtf) I Said I 10000% understand that my dog is a crazy sleeper/napper and always has knots under her armpits and at this point developing them on her chest... IT WAS OKAY TO SHAVE THEM BUT DO NOT (I REPEAT) DO NOT SHAVE HER BACK. There are no knots and NO reason to mess up her beautiful hair. We brush her every night & brush her teeth 2-3 times a week.... She completely understood (I thought)... She didn't tell me how long it would take so I roamed around poway for 3 hours until I finally went back and called to check in. Said they'd be done in 15 minutes.... AND I GOT A FREAKING RAT BACK. I just can't. I tried being nice at first- but again, it's the receptionist.... she didn't know anything... I asked her, "what should I ask for next time then so I don't get a shaved dog because saying "DO NOT shave her clearly didn't work" and she said, let me go ask... HOW DARE THE GROOMER (AHEM THE OWNER) NOT COME OUT HERSELF AND HANDLE IT. She came back and said "5/8s cut would be best".... oh okay- sure... I could not believe the customer service and the audacity.. She said, we'll if we had only shaved her chest it wouldn't looked weird- REALLY!? BECAUSE MY DOG LOOKS ABSOLUTELY HIDEOUS AND WWEEIIRRDD!!! TO TOP IT OFF- it's super choppy & uneven... Like I said, Next time, call before making that decision. Check your pet's paws before leaving the place as they more than once missed a few toe nails or a paw all together. We went back after 3-4 weeks to get a couple more nails clipped because they missed them at our last visit. It took us a while to get back since we live 20+ minutes away and have been busy with work. They fixed the nails but was not friendly and made it sound like we were at fault. We have been coming to this place for a couple of years and really expected better customer service. Made getting my dog groomed for the first time pleasurable! I have a chow so some people like to mussel him just because he's considered a dangerous breed. Which only makes him more anxious. What I liked about The Bark & Collar is that they didn't have any preconceived notions, they noticed he was sweet & wasn't worried about him. I stayed & waited the full 2.5 hours & was very happy with how gently they treated all the dogs. They took out his undercoat & matted fur behind his ears, on his tail & on his chest. Really disappointed in how much the Bark and Collar has changed. We first started going there when I think Kandace was the only one grooming. She did an amazing job and I was so happy with her quality of work. I recommended everyone that I know here even my own parents. The last five times I dropped my dog off the cuts have been really weird I think they switched groomers or something? The cuts have been really choppy and I noticed that things were not done or they forgot to do something. They forgot to call me to tell me that my dog was ready to be picked up and I had to call them to ask if my dog was ready. They said oh I forgot to call you.... really? My dog was waiting there for an extra hour. Another time they forgot to do her glands even though I asked them to do it and they charged me for it. I asked them again if they did her glands and they said yes. I had to go out of my way to go to another groomers to get my poor dog's glands done the next day. I thought there was something medically wrong with my dog so I was freaked out when I noticed her glands didn't seem to be done. I called the receptionist and she said why would we charge you for something we didn't do? Yup my thoughts exactly. Yes I know the difference between internal and external glands. The third time they told me my dog was ready and I ended up waiting an extra 20 minutes in the parking lot because they didn't do her nails even though they said she was ready? The fourth time my dog was really scared and did not want to go in. She was terrified and after her grooming she acted frightened and hid in our bathroom for the rest of the day. She has never done this after a grooming. She was always so happy after I picked her up from the bark and collar. I didn't mind driving an extra 15 minutes to go to the bark and collar because they did such a wonderful job. I'm really disappointed that the quality has diminished so much and my dog's hair cuts have been so bad. Yay!!! I am so happy with our experience at The Bark & Collar! I messaged them (along with a few other grooming businesses) on Yelp for a quote and they had the most prompt and friendly response and answered all of my questions and even sent a photo of the products they use on the pups! Loved that and their great reviews so I decided we would give them a try and I'm so glad I did! They squeezed us in for a last minute appointment and stayed past closing time to finish up my pups haircut. They were so great!!! I told them about an awful experience I had with taking my parents dog to another groomer in Poway *cough cough The Buried Bone* and had to take their dog to the vet after... it was such a horrible experience and ever since then I have been really scared to take my dogs to a groomer. We have taken our baby Layla to many groomers but have never been very satisfied. Looking at reviews I decided to reach out to see if I could get a last minute appointment same day. I used request a quote and sent a picture of my dog and exactly what I wanted to the owner that got back to me in 5 minutes! He got me in just a few hours later! My boyfriend took her in and said how professional and clean the place was and felt comfortable leaving her there. It's located in such a cute area of Poway and if you make your appt on a Saturday you can kill time and go to the poway farmers market right across the street! Took my dog here last month but forgot to write a review. I just rescued a 10 month old terrier/Maltese mix from the Barkinglot, and she smelled so bad and her white coat was basically yellow and overgrown x100. I explained to them that she's terrified of water and to not cut her hair too short because she burns in the sun. When I picked her up (took less time then they predicted) she smelled so good, her coat was perfectly white and her cut looked amazing. I REALLY liked the fact that they don't place dogs in cages while they're waiting for owners. Instead, they have adorable little white picket fenced in sections that are very open.
