When I finally got them she was confused why I was there, and after I took the pants to another tailor I realized she had actually stolen a pair of my slacks. Long version: I called a few places looking for a tailor to repair holes in the crotches of my jeans and a pair of dress pants. One pair of jeans needed to be hemmed. I wanted to make sure that she was actually there for me to drop them off, so I had to call her three times before she picked up. When she finally did pick up, she was practically yelling over me the entire time, to the point where I couldn't even explain why I was calling. Nonetheless, because she was so close, I figured I would risk it. I dropped off the pants that afternoon, explained everything to her, and she said she would get to it next week. I told her she could take as much as two weeks but after that I would need them. So a week goes by, I give her a call, again she's belligerent and angry for the simple fact that I guess she had to pick up the phone. What should be a two-minute phone call turns into nearly 10 minutes while she's giving me excuses as to why she has not even begun work on my pants. So I ask her if she needs another week, she eventually says yes, and I thought that was it. Two more weeks go by, I give her another call because clearly she hasn't called me. Again, she's confused and angry as to why I'm calling because I guess everybody just walks in on her? Anyways, again she has not done the work, again she's making all sorts of excuses as to being busy with other work, and I asked her how that was my problem. No response. More arguing. She tells me she can do it again by the end of the week or next week. I say okay, and hang up. Two more weeks go by because I'm busy with work and whatnot, and then I remember that I still have pants at the tailors. I give her yet another call, of course she picks up angry and confused, and she tells me that she can't have it, you guessed it, until next week because she's busy. I tell her that's absolutely ridiculous, she doesn't seem fazed. I tell her that that's absolutely unacceptable and reiterate all the things that she said to me, and how I'm supposed to have these pants 4 weeks ago. Again, all she does is argue, so I decided right there I was just going to go and pick them up. When I arrived that afternoon, she seemed surprised to see me, and I did all I could to not scream profanities at this woman. I felt like I was trying to get a mule to do calculus. Regardless I get my bag of pants, and I turn to leave, and then she asked me to sign some paper just in case "someone comes to pick them up". What? Who is going to pick up my pants except me? Furthermore, who even knows these are here after almost 6 weeks? I smiled, told her she had wasted enough of my time, and left while she was still muttering about signing the paper. A couple 3 days later I took them to a much better tailor closer to my work, and came to find out that she had stolen a pair of my pants. So I cannot speak about her craftsmanship, because after almost 6 weeks I had no evidence of it. I can tell you that this is about the worst customer service I have ever received from anyone, anywhere. She charges relatively inexpensive prices, but apparently won't work on anything that isn't going to be a more expensive job. I think it's time to hang up your sewing machine grandma. I'd like all the time you wasted of mine back.

Her office space is in Gowanus so pretty easy to get to and if you drive, there are usually a couple parking spots in front. She comes down to open the door and bring you up to the studio and then you take off your shoes upon entering. She always had a great playlist going which I hum or sing to. She has a great mirror to showcase your dress and showed me both style options for a bustle. I had her add an American bustle and take in the straps a bit and because my wedding was a month away, we scheduled a follow up appointment two weeks out. She color coded the bustle to make it super easy and we had one more try on. With the deposit, it was about $300 total which is on par with what I had done. She tailors other women's clothes as well so I have a feeling I'll be coming back for all my tailoring needs. She does not tailor menswear.

I met her at her immaculate studio in Fort Green and fell in love with her immediately. She was super sweet, very supportive, but most importantly, very very calm. It was my first time being a bridesmaid in a VERY important wedding (I'm talking million dollar Great Gatsby type wedding, 1,000 guests being held at a private museum in California). I was going to be surrounded by a bunch of people from high school that I hadn't seen in ages, so in a way it was like the high school reunion I never wanted. It was important that I made a good impression. But, not surprisingly, the bridesmaids dress was hideous and fit me awkwardly. I looked like a seal dressed in a pear costume. I needed this fixed, pronto. The problem was I had to alter the dress without it looking like it had been altered. The bride(zilla) had specifically said that she didn't want anyone to change or alter the dress. When I told Sandra this, she was very understanding and dealt with my neurosis very well. What I liked her her also, was that she was very confident. She told me exactly what needed to be done to make the dress fit my body type and complement my curves and height. She assured me she would be stealthy about the alterations and clean everything up seamlessly so no one would ever know I had changed it. Less than two weeks later I went to go pick up the dress. I slipped the dress on almost in slow motion because I was apprehensive about how the dress would look. The wedding was a week away, so if it didnt work out, I wouldnt have much time to fix it. But ALAS, the dress FIT LIKE A GLOVE and I stood there staring at myself in the mirror, amazed that it was the same dress! I couldn't believe it! Somehow she made it so the dress actually looked flattering! I kept asking her over and over how she did it, and she said she changed the waist line, took in some of the weird puffiness out on the sides etc etc. I was totally flabbergasted and so, so grateful. Now I could go to this wedding confident, not having to feel self conscious in a dress that made me look ridiculous. I just came back from the wedding this weekend. It was a beautiful but ridiculous affair (people spraying 200$ bottles of champaign all over the dance floor, fighter jets flying over the ceremony, opera singers, lots of taxidermy). As I hoped, no one expected a thing. I even got compliments on how cute the dress looked on me, which we all know is rare for a bridesmaid dress. So, point is, go to Sandra with you most delicate, prized wedding designs and dresses. This girl is professional and patient. I loved working with her. If I ever decide to get married, I'm going back to her.

The shop is extremely small and tight, but the ladies here do a good job. At times, their vibe could be interpreted as unfriendly, especially if you've never interacted with them, but don't take their curtness for rudeness. In no way does it look like their intention to be unfriendly, but it's just the way they operate - quick and to the point. In addition, they don't speak fluent English, so sometimes things can get lost in translation. If you DO need any type of alterations or clothing fixes, all you have to do is walk in, present to them what you need done and they'll take a look at it on the spot and let you know if it can or cannot be done. If whatever you need can be done, they'll fill out a receipt for you with the date you came in, what the work is and how much it might cost. When your clothing is ready, they'll give you a call and you can come in to pick it up. It's that easy or at least those were the experiences I had and each time was a replica of the previous. In addition, the pricing for their work was very reasonable as I called up a few tailoring shops for a quote and Sanita's always came out as the lowest or equivalent.

She did a great job, and suggested a different type of bustle for my dress that I ended up really loving how the bustled look came out. She fit the dress exactly to my body as it needed and I felt like I could trust her with my dress, as opposed to some of the other dress alteration companies in NYC that I've read some questionable reviews for. The price was reasonable, the experience was very easy and her and her mother working in the shop were very friendly. I highly recommend E&L tailoring for wedding gowns or any other delicate garment that you'd like altered with precision and care.

I've sent men, women and nonbinary friends to them because I trust their work and they're respectful and attentive to customer requests on fit and drape, even if non-traditional. Most recently, I needed a linen suit tailored for an event. They know exactly what they're doing and how to do it. I was pinned with precision and they genuinely listen to about my desired silhouette. They're honest with you about what is and isn't possible, so you don't end up looking insane. If it's your first time getting anything tailored, I can give perspective that prices are definitely reasonable for the work, and hand work isn't (and shouldn't be!) cheap. It's a whole lot more reasonable than any place in lower manhattan. Keep in mind that it's cash upfront only.
