Niño enjoying a walk with his friends at Piedmont Pet :)

I have been taking my Niño to Piedmont Pet for a couple of years now for boarding. He really loves it! Its a doggy vacation for him too. Karen is very professional and caring. She also takes him on hikes while he is there. They also offer daycare just for the day. Karen asks though questions before taking in your pet, to make sure they will be properly taken care of. Do they take medicines, or have any medical problems, or if they eat certain things? This makes me feel at ease, knowing she cares for each pet as an individual. She also texts me the cutest pictures and any updates as they happen while I am away. All of this is why my dog Niño and I recommend Piedmont Pet :)

Piedmont Pet is the BEST daycare I could imagine for my dog. My boyfriend and I were just listing today all the reasons Karen and Matt are amazing, and this is after being clients for several months already. The honeymoon doesn't wear off. Top 10 Reasons why Piedmont Pet rocks: 1. A FULL DAY OF DAYCARE. With other services, including pickup/dropoff time, our dog was getting maybe six or seven hours out of the house total. We both work 10+ hour days, so it makes a big difference that our dog is with Karen, Matt, and the pack that whole time. 2. THE DOG PACK. We always thought our dog was a little antisocial, but then we started seeing these awesome pics of him romping and playing with the Piedmont Pet pack. Not sure how they do it, but somehow Karen and Matt set a tone for the group so everyone gets along. 3. IN-HOME, SMALL GROUP DAYCARE. Who wants to send their fur baby to a warehouse with dozens of other dogs barking and peeing indoors all day long? After learning that a yorkie belonging to a friend of ours unlearned its housetraining after going to an indoor big box daycare, we knew we wanted something different. 4. THE PERSONAL TOUCH OF A SMALL BUSINESS. Karen and Matt know our dog and treat him like one of their own pets. They know his weird quirks and preferences and really care about him. When we had a medical issue earlier this year, Karen texted with me throughout the day checking on him and providing moral support. 5. FLEXIBILITY. Karen is super communicative via text and email, responding to queries within an hour. When I have an issue with drop-off or pickup, she is totally willing to work it out, and just today we requested daycare at the last minute and were able to drop him off an hour later. 6. PROFESSIONALISM. In addition to the communication and flexibility, Piedmont Pet is timely with billing and are so on it with scheduling. Our daycare needs are different week to week, and it's a piece of cake working with them. 7. PRICE POINT. Same or (much) cheaper than other comparable services, and you get so much: personalized attention, lots of exercise, socialization, the great outdoors, and photos. Speaking of ... 8. AMAZING TRAIL HIKES. We had no idea there were so many off-leash dog parks in the east bay. 9. PHOTOS. Karen and Matt take gorgeous pictures, and we receive one or more glamour shots of our dog a day. It's so cool to get an email while I'm at work and see him in flying midair playing with other dogs or looking pensively over a lush, green valley. With Piedmont Pet, he's living the life I wish I had. 10. A HAPPY, TIRED DOG AT THE END OF THE DAY. When my dog gets in the car at the end of a Piedmont Pet day, he gives a big sigh and falls asleep on the ride home. Seeing the photos of him romping, hiking, and playing, I know it's because he had the time of his life that day. We justify the cost of daycare as investing in a well-socialized, fit, and joyful dog. Piedmont Pet has exceeded our every expectation, and I am writing this review with the hope that more east bay dogs get to benefit from their fabulous care as well.

One of the great photos Matt sent me of my dog.

I travel for work and needed to find a reliable place to take my dog, Ollie. As a doggie mom, it is always hard to leave my little guy in the care of others, however, Karen and Matt treat him as one of their own. Ollie comes home from his "retreats" well loved and in need of his own vacation. Karen and Matt care for smaller dogs (under 40 lbs) in their home where the dogs are not crated and are taken on daily hikes. Matt sends pictures every day (one is attached) which always make me smile. My husband even joked that he wished our dog looked like he missed us even a little, but he is always happy. Ollie, while happy to see us when we pick him up - is equally happy to come to their house. I feel so much better knowing I have a place to take him where he will be cared for just as if were with me. Karen even gave Ollie a bath before we picked him up after an especially rainy week with them. I am grateful for Karen and Matt. They are well worth the money.

I love riding in the car!!

Doggy Lama was the only company that responded that they had staff experienced with birds. Dani came by to meet my bird before my trip and did a wonderful job taking the time to get to know her and understand her needs. Their pricing is more than reasonable, and the services are the best. Molly was recommended by a friend as "the dog whisperer" and that is correct. We have a little senior guy who loves other doggo's but doesn't have any teeth to defend himself, so it has been really difficult to find a boarder for him to be safe. Even having friends who he is familiar with staying at the house hasn't worked out. Insert Doggy Lama. We did a trial run of boarding with Molly, and he passed so we were able to schedule a weeklong vacation knowing he would have the best time. He got to hang out with some other senior dogs and have long walks in the wilderness and lots of doggo time. Molly kept us posted daily with pictures of our little man being a dog. The experience way outperformed expectations. We are working to sign our guy up for some walking adventures throughout the week. Go see Doggy Lama for all your needs.

The professionalism and structure they bring is unmatched. They manage their facility much like a children's daycare, every dog is carefully evaluated before being welcomed into the community, vaccinations must be up to date, and safety is clearly their top priority. The facility is incredibly clean, organized, and thoughtfully run. We also love all the extras they offer. From different levels of boarding (the highest tier even includes a special tuck-in and Kong treat!) to dog training, bathing, nail trimming, and their fully engaging playrooms, complete with Dog TV, play structures, bubbles, pool days, and themed activities, it's clear they go above and beyond to make every stay fun and enriching. They even include webcams for us parents to check in on them from time to time! Our doggie Herkules absolutely LOVES his Dogtime family. It is truly his home away from home, and he gets so excited every time we pull into the parking lot. As very particular dog parents, trust means everything to us -- and there is no place we trust more than Dogtime. Tony and Krista have done an incredible job since taking over the business. They've created something really special, and we are forever grateful to them for caring for our dog kids as if they were their own.

Update following the owner (Suzanne)'s response:…read more I appreciate the business taking the time to respond. I want to clarify a few points for transparency and for prospective customers considering Happy Hound. My concern was never the existence of a first-day assessment fee, but the value delivered. I have used dog daycares across NYC, Chicago, LA, and San Francisco and have never encountered one that charges more than a standard daycare day for a first-day evaluation. In many cases, the first day is complimentary. That context shaped my expectations going in. When I called to book, the 3:00pm time slot was the only option presented to me by Happy Hound. At no point during booking--or after the tour--was it communicated that the daycare credit would apply the same way regardless of whether my dog attended for a full day or only a couple of hours. Without that clarity, it is entirely reasonable for a new customer to assume that paying for a full day would result in receiving a full day of care. That is where the communication breakdown occurred. I am not disputing the sequence of events shared in the owner's reply. My concern is with the policy itself--specifically, requiring payment for a full day of daycare while not delivering a full day of service when scheduling limitations come from the business. The outcome was that I paid for care my dog did not receive. A prorated refund for the unused portion of that day would have been a reasonable, customer-oriented resolution. Sharing this simply so other prospective customers understand how the onboarding process and policies work in practice.

I wish that all human daycare centers were this good. They have a perfect organizational system,…read morewhere dogs are placed in groups according to size and energy levels, the facilities are squeaky clean, and the staff is professional. Archibald loves this place.
