Our 2 year old dog Sasha has a couple issues: 1) he has a neurological condition that makes his balance really wobbly. 2) he is a nervous guy, and especially triggered at our house, which makes him a pup that needs someone to take their time to get to know him and build his trust. Through Oakland Pet Care, we met Caitlin, who is an absolute angel, and loves Sasha, and all her dog friends so much. She takes incredible loving care of him on his evening walks. Because of Covid, our previous dog walker (who took a pack on hikes in the area), had to close. So of course I reached out to Delia of Oakland Pet Care! Even though Sasha needs a bit more TLC (esp in the beginning) than most dogs, they took us on, and it has been SO GREAT! OPC has been wonderful and we are so grateful for what they've done for our family. Our dog started with OPC as an energetic and mostly untrained pup, and the trainers patiently and happily worked with her in private sessions until she learned recall and other commands and could join the group hikes. She's always so excited to go on the hikes and comes back ready to rest, and from the photos, it seems she's having a great time with the pack. The owner, Delia is so friendly and experienced with dogs. Whenever we see her around town she greets us and gives Pici so much love. She runs a very good team and we highly recommend them to all! I am interviewing new dog walkers and just had a very long and informative talk with Delia at Oakland Pet Care. It sounded like a great fit, and I was very excited to take the next step. Of course, in my search I have had to keep within my budget, as my dog needs 5 hikes per week. The price listed on their website is $34 per hike, which was a bit more than I was hoping for, but I thought I could stretch for the right place. After about 40 minutes, Delia mentioned they charged a flat monthly rate for the hikes, which I found odd, since it says $34 per walk on the website. She then said, no- the hikes are $36 per walk. I said I was really surprised that the website fees were incorrect and she laughed and said they needed to update the website. I said the price was out of my budget and I was very disappointed, especially after how much time we spent talking. She laughed again, and said it was a good thing I found out now before putting any more time in. I said it was not a good thing, that I had wasted 42 minutes during the work day, getting excited about something I could not afford. I told her she should have told me this before we even started talking. She seemed really surprised that I was so upset and said she was "sorry for disappointing" me. I find it so odd- she clearly knows the website fees are incorrect, but she took no responsibility and did not apologize for that fact. 5 Yelp stars doesn't even cut it - Delia and her team were life savers, anxiety easers and one of the best things that could have happened to us. We rescued our pup, Chester, when he was about a year old and quickly learned that he had some behavioral issues. We took him to behavioralists, classes and with tons of support - we slowly introduced him to new things and he was able to ease into a normal life. We needed a dog sitter/ walker, but were very wary of who we worked with. We wanted Chester to continue to improve and not regress back. After lots of googling, stress, trial and error - we found Oakland Pet Care. Delia came to our house to meet Chester and was nothing but loving, encouraging and understanding - it's all a good story from there. We implicitly trust Delia with Chester - he would do overnights, daycare and walks, some days. Pick ups and drop offs were simple and communication was easy and very responsive. Oakland Pet Care is a breath of fresh air! They started walking my pup, Mango, 6 months ago, and have been amazing to work with. I highly recommend them. Delia, the owner, is communicative and extremely accommodating. She knows her trade and treats customers like family. I selected Oakland Pet Care because of their commitment to positive reinforcement training, as shown by their Dogtec certification. When Delia came over for a meet and greet, I saw that beyond the certification and label, she had a true personal commitment to the humane treatment of animals, as well as a strong knowledge of dog training. I have watched Delia contend with COVID both in respect to her clients, and her walkers. Her dedication to make sure she was doing right by everyone was inspiring. I had to abruptly move outside of Oakland Pet Care's usual area, and Delia agreed to keep my dog on as a client to ensure continuity of care. All this to say, Delia is a caring, knowledgeable and ethical business owner. Mango's assigned walker is Olivia. She has helped Mango heal from a traumatic experience. She quickly gained her trust and showed her that people aren't out to hurt her. Olivia has been great at adapting to different pick up and drop off protocols with COVID/not disrupting my kids naps/Mango needing to sometimes be confined so she doesn't chew things up. After every walk, I get a detailed report and some photos of Mango and her friends. She always comes back exhausted and calm. She gets to run around with consistent playmates, play in creeks, and hike with her favorite human, Olivia. More often than not, when Olivia brings her home, Mango tries to sneak back out to get back in Olivia's car! When Olivia was off work for a week, Cecilia walked Mango. Olivia brought her along with her the week before to introduce her to me and Mango. Cecilia was also incredibly kind and communicative. She was super understanding when I didn't have my phone on and wasn't home when she came to get Mango. She waited a good 10 minutes for me to bring Mango home! I had seen Cecilia out with her dog before she worked at Oakland Pet Care, and she stood out in the park as a caring, dedicated pet owner. In addition to the outstanding human talent, Oakland Pet Care makes scheduling/payment/admin stuff super easy with a dedicated client space on their website. We love OPC! From the very first meeting, everyone there made it super clear that their first and only priority was Fin's happiness and well-being. When he first started off with OPC, Fin often would display a lot a mouthiness on walks and had a minimal sense of recall - making it hard for others to walk him. The OPC team (Delia, Cloe, Aly) was extremely patient working with him at his pace and after a couple months helped Fin build his confidence to be successfully integrated into a squad filled with his girlfriends/besties! It's such a joy to watch him eagerly wag his tail when he sees someone from OPC - and seeing how happy he is on these walks through the pictures and videos that get sent our way. Moreover, what puts OPC above and beyond is that while Fin was going through some medical issues, everyone on the team made it a personal effort to check in with Fin and showed him tons of love. Delia is the first pet sitter I have ever used, and she was very detailed, through, caring, helpful and went out of her way to take excellent care of our cats. We have two 17 year old cats, and until this year we've felt comfortable having friends house/pet sit for us while we were of town. Recently, however, the cats have had several medical issues, and we weren't comfortable making our friends responsible for pilling/monitoring/changing their care while we were away. Delia was very through from our first meeting. She had several forms to fill out, took detailed notes, and asked a lot of great follow up questions. While we were away she sent me daily pictures with updates, which put my mind at ease. When one of our cats ended up having a medical issue while we were gone, she quickly changed their care, and went so far as to take a trip to our vet to get a replacement medicine in pill form when one of our cats refused to take a prescribed liquid. I was very, very nervous about leaving our much beloved pets when I knew they might have health issues, and was all the more nervous to depend on a pet sitter (even though it was the right thing to do). Happily, Delia quickly put my mind at ease with her great communication and clear desire to provide excellent care and service. I highly recommend Delia and Oakland Pet Care. We adopted our pup (Cooper) last year and we were in desperate need of a trustworthy, reliable dog walker. Today we met Delia of Oakland Pet Care. It was not under the usual circumstances. We brought our puppy to Ohlone Dog Park in Berkeley on a Saturday morning. 15 minutes later Delia was on the ground with us trying to release the jaws of a pitty/bulldog type who latched onto the neck of our screaming and terrified pup. Delia, a perfect stranger and good samaritan, risked her own safety to step in and help and she successfully got the dog to let go without injury to our puppy. I have had great experiences with Oakland Pet Care and give 5 stars to Delia and Sing for the great services (drop-in visits and walks) provided for our family. Sing is just fabulous! We had all but given up on walking our dog; all the pulling and lunging made walks no fun. Sing took on the challenge and offered training on walks such that in a month's time our dog's behavior improved significantly. She quickly diagnosed his issues and tried a number of techniques to address his challenges. Ultimately, he became much less reactive while on leash to other animals and much more responsive to us. Sing gave us lots of feedback on his progress and clear instructions on how to continue their hard work. She would even document situations and techniques with her smart phone to make sure we wouldn't miss any subtleties of her lessons. We are so grateful for her diligence and creativity. I discovered Delia and Oakland Pet Care through Yelp after my senior dog, Hannah, became very ill and I needed to find a new dog walker. At our initial meeting, Delia's calming presence, connection with Hannah, and desire to accommodate our needs, assured me that she would provide wonderful care to Hannah. Due to her age and medication, Hannah had to have two walks/day. Caitlin and Allison were her regular walkers and they were both very kind and patient with Hannah: waking her up often from deep sleep, guiding her slowly to the door, putting on booties and diapers, cleaning up any messes, and feeding her. They showed up as planned and locked up/used my house alarm; I had complete trust in them. When Hannah unexpectedly died (she was old, but managing her chronic illnesses well), Delia, Allison, Caitlin and Leah all came by my house together to offer their condolences. Delia is the absolute best. She has been walking and boarding my dog for a year, and I don't know what I would do without her. I have a 5-year old rescue Chihuahua-mix, who has some personality quirks. We've used Oakland Pet Care for both short weekend trips with a brief daily check in, and we've also used them for house sitting during longer trips. Oakland Pet Care makes you feel like family! When we first moved to the neighborhood, I was a little worried about finding good care for my dog, Wally. He's shy and sometimes unpredictable around other dogs. Every picture and report from Wally's walks with the team have him grinning from ear to ear, and he just goes totally crazy when they come to the door.
