We liked this restaurant for its fresh seafood and the Greek infused flavors! We arrive in Cape May late Friday and decided to try this place out. A must try is the watermelon Feta salad. Its a great combo and the Feta which is imported, from all places - France (thought the best feta was from Greece, go figure) was really good. This feta was rich and smooth and not too tart. It was a nice mild feta that wen extremely well with the watermelon, pecans and honey...great combo. We also had the scallops and the grilled octopus, the latter which I don't recommend because it was quite chewy. Scallops were done well. The lamb shank was a little dry but still tasty. What a great find right on Beach Avenue in Cape May. Between the quality of food, service, presentation and atmosphere, I would give the Pier House 5 stars. From the start of dinner you are blessed with a basket full of fresh baked bread, a full loaf of Kalamata Olive bread and another full loaf of 7 Grain, I can't even tell you which was my favorite, both were insanely good, plus they give you there homemade Hummus and I usually don't like Hummus, but that too was amazing. Moving on to salads, soups and apps, we all tried the Watermelon and Feta salads, then we had the Fried Calamari, which came with 3 different crazy dipping sauces, ranging from a simple marinara, spicy wasabi and sweet sesame, all scored high marks, everyone is still raving about the Watermelon Feta and Calamari dipping sauces. Next our table tried the Potato Leek-Crab Bisque and Chicken Avgolemono soups before our main courses, both were tremendous, I loved the little touch of bacon dust sprinkled on top of the Bisque. Finally our dinners ranged from Chicken Souvlaki, Pork Chops, Whole Red Snapper and NY Strip, each dish looked like a work of art and the taste matched the presentation. Everyone was absolutely floored by how good each dish was, from the flavors, which explode in your mouth, to how the steak which was cooked to perfection, the chicken was so juicy and the pork, I've never seen a cut of pork like the chops we got, even the veggies on the side were spectacular. To top it off our waiter Carlo was the best, he was always one step ahead of whatever we needed, its like he could read our minds. As far as value goes I don't think it can get any better, while it's pricey, it's not too expensive for the food you're getting and the portions are very generous so your not walking out hungry like some other 5 star restaurants I'm not going to mention. I've eaten at almost every high end restaurant in Cape May and the Pier House by far met every expectation I have when going to a restaurant and will absolutely be our number one spot for dining in Cape May from now on, can't wait to go back. read more

Quite good. Excellent, actually. As noted in other reviews, the watermelon and feta salad was surprisingly good and refreshing. We had the Sea Bass and the Swordfish entrees. Both were cooked perfectly and presented in a nicely integrated plate with lots of extra flavors. The swordfish had chunks of sweet crab. The Sea Bass came with a flavorful stewed tomato (freshly made!). Both had fresh asparagus and greens. Really great! read more

This establishment is located on the grounds of the Le Mar where we stayed for a week. On the last day of our stay, we didn't feel like driving so decided to have breakfast here. We were blown out of the water by the enormous portions and ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, the food was great. We could not finish everything but was surprised but the quality of the food after eating breakfast at some of the "best" breakfast places in Cape May. We now know that this is one of them. Include this place on your agenda for breakfast when staying in Cape May................ We did not actually eat here so cannot comment on the food. We had a party of 7, with two younger boys and we had to leave because it was so crowded and no one was even paying attention to us. We waited about 10 min and we were never greeted. The hostess and wait staff seemed to be in the weeds. It was mostly frustrating because we called ahead and asked if we should make a reservation and if the restaurant was busy, and were told it was good for families (questionable for smaller ones) and it was not busy. We would not have even attempted to go if we were told the reality that it was better suited for adults only and it was crowded. read more

The place was gorgeous and the service was quick and thorough. Would be good for a couple. Not for a family though. The food was good but I felt it was a bit overpriced for what it was. Also, this place is NOT kid friendly. It did not have a changing table, which I expect in a restaurant like this. Also, the "kids meal" was ridiculous. $15 for 3 fried shrimp with some popcorn? My husband had the lamb shank and it was flavorful and cooked to perfection. I had the tuna and would have liked it a bit more rare. But it was also very flavorful. They had free parking, and the staff sat us quickly (although I would expect so on a Tuesday night at 5:15pm.) And kept our drinks full. She also made sure our daughters food came out as soon as it was ready. So I am probably bias because of the lack of accommodation for the kid, but otherwise it was good. This was the second time we have eaten at the Pier House. The first was two years ago. Once again we had a very good meal. I remembered an appetizer I had that is served in an upside down martini glass called a mangotini. Lump crab meat, avocado, mango, other flavors.....just get it. My son and fiancé both had the blackened Ahi which was seared perfectly and really tasty. The crab cakes were sautéed and flavorful with minimal breading and fillers. The server was attentive, friendly and helpful. The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars is that the calamari was slightly undercooked - a little bit rubbery. Don't let that detract you from an awesome meal. read more

We've been vacationing in Wildwood crest for 15 years and honestly haven't really ventured too far from there or dined out as we've always had a kitchenette in our room. But this trip we were looking for a nice place to take my sister-in-law for her Birthday celebration and wanted to enjoy Cape May at the same time. I yelped the Pier house and it had decent reviews. A plus was the Greek theme as my husband and sister-in-law are Greek and love Greek food. We were early for our reservation and they had no problem seating us. We sat on the patio because it was a beautiful evening. I got a chance to look at the dining room and bar area and both look nice. Our server was a little soft spoken and the patio was a bit loud due to the music but they turned it down when asked. The wine list was really nice with a great selection. The menu looked really good and it was quite hard to make our selections. For starters we got the Mad Greek salad (unusual because it had potatoes but my husband liked it), the spicy seared scallops (good but the stuff that came with it the pancetta crisp and pineapple were so much better), the Kaseri cheese (huge portion and yummy), and the Roka salad (My favorite, it was delicious). For our entrees we got the lamb shank, salmon and the short rib special. The special was so fantastic! The short ribs were served over a bed of greens (spinach and asparagus) with a yummy corn cake that absorbed all the delicious sauce. We had absolutely no room for desert but the tray looked awesome. We dined here on a Friday night during the busy season and both the food and service were excellent. We had the grilled octopus and potato leek soup to start and they were excellent. My dinner companion did not finish all the soup and I gladly had the last few spoonfuls. For entrees we had the snapper and the mahi mahi. Again, both were superb. The ambiance was really nice too, albeit a little bit loud. We would definitely recommend the pier house to friends who appreciate quality food and would go back if in the area again. A MUST place to dine in Cape May. About a mile down from center of town on Beach Ave so nice and quiet. Have eaten there every time we're in Cape May, which is about twice a year. Have never been disappointed with any meal. Their "flash fried" whole fish is amazing, as well as just about everything else on the menu. Friendly staff and if you stay at La Mer Hotel, on the property you get a 10% discount. DON'T forget to have breakfast there too. Best in Cape May, BAR NONE. read more

The crab cakes were very good with lots of crab and not much filling. Calamari was decent but the breading came off and it was a tad oily. My husband had shrimp dish that was very good too. The blueberry cocktail was fruity and delicious. Key lime pie was the perfect ending. read more

We visited The Pier House last weekend after seeing the great reviews here and looking at their website. We had 8pm reservations for their outdoor garden area and it was a really lovely setting. The restaurant and bar ambiance was nice too, clean and crisp. The food passing by us while we waited all looked amazing and we were excited to order. Everything was fabulous. The kalamari appetizer was huge, tender and light. The lamb chops and grilled octopus were just delicious. Our server Helen was wonderful! Save room for the incredible desserts! We booked our stay at the La Mer hotel. We were pleased to learn that there was a restaurant right on the premises. We planned on eating all our meals here. On the first night we went for dinner. After being greeted, we asked to sit outside. We were seated within 5 minutes. The hostess mentioned they were short on menus and would bring some shortly. We sat for the next 20 minutes completely IGNORED!! No server came to greet us, nobody offered to get our drink order. NOTHING!! We finally had to ask for someone to help us. All in all we were there for almost 2 hours total. The food was ok, but, extremely expensive especially considering the service we received. The server sensed I was not happy and insisted on giving us a free dessert trying to make things right. But, I would have been a little less inclined to give this review, had they taken something off our $93 bill (for 3 people - only 2 of which ordered entrees). read more

We went here for our third anniversary based on reviews we read. We weren't disappointed. Someone had suggested the meatball appetizers so we got those to share. They were excellent. The Pier House is definitely a greek seafood restaurant with extremely fresh ingredients. We ate here early with our daughter so I can't really comment on the crowd. The service was quick and friendly. The seafood was outstanding. The fried calamari was tender and not frozen and the scallops were some of the best I've ever tasted. My husband order crab cakes and they were all crab. They were not stuffed with filler and breadcrumbs. They served the crab cakes with a large jumbo shrimp on top, but the shrimp was overcooked and it lacked flavor. I'm going to say it was a fluke because everything else was cooked perfectly. We ordered our daughter popcorn chicken and they were also delicious. Thick, juicy pieces of popcorn chicken. I assume they make them in house and they were not frozen. This is the kind of place that definitely prides itself on quality ingredients that are fresh and not frozen. You can taste the difference. I'll definitely be back again. read more

Yasou! The Pier House is simply Greek-tastic! We love hitting that place up for breakfast. They have great pancakes and French toast. Some might even say that their pancakes are better than Uncle Bills! My brother is a very picky eater and usually is morally against eating anything that has been stored in a container - and he even approved of the Canadian bacon. Their coffee is the best in town as well - it is hot and strong. Would highly recommend this eatery. Eating at the Pier House reminds me of the long, hot summer afternoons I spent working at an olive farm outside of Athens during my youth! Simply a joy. My family and I, a party of 12, called on a Thursday evening to make a reservation. The hostess was courteous and very informative. We arrived at 7:30pm and they sat us immediately. Our waiter, Carlo, was phenomenal! Carlo had such mastery of the menu and an ability to make you feel that he was waiting a party of 2 table during a lull in business- very quick and efficient. Great asset. Our drinks and bread were provided promptly and with a smile. The food was cooked very well and the atmosphere was inviting. The appetizers were of good portion along with our entrée, we left no room for desert, shame because the menu options looked great. Absolutely absurd! My wife and I went to the Pier House, a 5 star restaurant, on a Saturday night at 7:30. As we anticipated the restaurant and bar area was very full. We looked around the bar and there were no vacant seats. Then we spotted some friends at the end of the bar, joined them and talked for about 15 minutes. They said they were there for some time, getting ready to leave and offered us their seats. We sat at the bar waiting about 10 minutes and the attentive but very busy bartender came over to us. We were about to give him our drink order when he stated that we had to give up our seats. We questioned him and he said that the seats were reserved. We stated "you're kidding"? He said "no" and the reservation was called in at 5:30 and we had to get up. We again asked "you're kidding"? He said no and seeing no amicable solution to the embarrassing situation that we found ourselves, got up and headed for the door. As we got up the bartender said that we could "take it up with George", the manager / owner. I chose to wait in the foyer but my wife headed to the hostess station and waited a few minutes for George to finish with some customers. She explained to George what had happened at the bar. At first he was confused with the reserved seats at the bar policy. When he understood what had occurred he only commented that "the next time you come in ........" My wife said that there is no way she could ever get me to enter the Pier House again. What a smart lady! Absolutely absurd! Absolutely embarrassing! Never in 47 years of dining out, 20 years in lodging, 15 years as restaurant owners and 64 years of living in Cape May have we ever heard of such a policy, been so embarrassed or felt that a posting was necessary on social media (our first ever). So, when visiting the Pier House, be sure you are aware that there are more strange events in Cape May than the ghosts that haunt the old mansions. read more

Decent restaurant overall. Food above avg but not great, service good but slow,wine list is small but good but over 150% markup. The bad part is table management. We had table of six and was given a table right by the door with tons of foot traffic and a constant annoying breeze and was asked to wait 10 minutes (past our RSVP time!) while much better tables of 4 sat completely unused the whole night. They could have easily put the tables of 4 together and split outs up if needed It ruined the whole mood of the dinner. Tables outside are also pretty bad and not worth the price you'll pay for the food. Whole fried flounder was well cooked but completely unseasoned, chicken souvlaki fine but uninspired, crab cake okay but all claw meat. Kids filet mignon, cooked well but over seasoned, buttered pasta completely bland (cooks need to learn to add salt to cooking water!) Sides were vegetables smothered in butter so tasted fine but nothing special. Desserts were not house made but pretty good nonetheless. In fact, they had consistency that probably could not be had in house so better this way. Overall, probably would not go back because there are better restaurants in cape may but will keep it in mind in a pinch. read more

We loved the fact that they serve whole fish and not only fish fillets. The chef thinks that the fish loses some of its taste when you fillet it in advance and I couldn't agree more. We had the whole baby flounder and the whole branzino as entrees and they were both very good. I also like the three sauces that came with the flounder. Before that we had the grilled octopus and the sausage. The octopus was extraordinary and the sausage came with a piece of real greek feta which you do not get often in the US (most restaurants think they serve real feta but actually they don't). We finished our meal with the creme brulee cake as the other desserts seemed to be extremely heavy. They presented them to us on a thick stone plate and we were not sure whether the plate or the desserts were heavier. Yet, the creme brulee cake was really good. As the service was also impeccable, the only thing we could complain about was the atmosphere. The dining room is rather homey, reminiscent of a family oriented type restaurant. read more

We went to this place 3 rd week of July 2015 and made reservations earlier in the day.. We got to the place early -- about 6pm and we were seated in the bar area tables.. That wasn't to bad, although I would have liked the main dining room.. The main issue I had with this place was the zillion flies all over the windows and tables while we were seated and during our meal.. I was horrified to see so many flies.. The food was decent and my husband loved his swordfish .. I had the sea bass and it was good .. The asparagus was not cooked long enough and they were hard.. The choice of desserts were very limited and they looked stale.. I did not want any but decided to try the one my husband ordered.. It was a brûlée type of pie but not creamy and not exactly great.. I only had one bite... If the flies were not there I would have given another star.. The waiter was ok but a bit like a robot and took his time waiting on us .. read more

This was our first time this summer visiting the pier house, my wife and I had been there a few summers before and had an amazing experiance, we usually would sit at a table, but on this Saturday night we decided we were just going to have apps and drinks at the bar before meeting some friends. It was around 7:30 when we arrived and we were lucky enough to find two seats right next to each either. We were greeted by a lovely young blonde girl who immediatly brought over an extensive wine and cocktail list. (So many choices) I myself love a dirty vodka martini, but my wife loves the fun "girly drinks" and the Pier House cocktail menu had many to choose from, the bartender said her name was Melissa and that she would give us some time to go over the wine and cocktail menus, and if we had any questions that she would be happy to help us. About two minutes later she returns, l went with my usually dirty kettle one martini, and my wife asked Melissa, what her favorite martini was, she quickly responded and said that there wasn't a single martini on that list that she didnt love. She then said if she had to pick one, it would have to be 'grape bubbles'. So my wife went with Melissa recommendation and she loved it, champagne, fresh grapes, grape vodka, grape juice and something else, not only a beautiful presentation but so tasty ( i couldn't resist a sip) she made my kettle one dirty martini to perfection! My wife and I couldnt believe what a professional she was at such a young age! She then asked us if we would like to see a dinner menu, we said yes and as soon as she handed it to us, she asked if we had dined with them before, we have so we said yes, but we are just looking to do apps, she then quickly replied that she loves all the apps but her particular favorites were the macho tuna, lamb lollichops,and the fried cheese that was imported, we took all her recommendations plus the calamari, which we had had before and loved! I just have to say everything was wonderful, the service, the food,(especailly the lamb lollichops which were cooked perfect med rare) the ambience, the other bartender was very nice too, but just a little too 'know it all' for our liking. We will definitly be frequenting the Pier House more often and we definatly reccomend the bar and to ask for Melissa! A Cape May must go! read more
