We are blessed in South County with several great liquor stores. But none is better than Pier Liquors, in my opinion. Their passion and knowledge of their products (I can only speak from experience in the beer and bourbon departments) is second to none. Many times I have been wandering aimlessly in the aisles and had one of their staff come up and make great recommendations. Not to the most expensive or trendy, but to what they liked, and thought I would like. I've also had them argue with me when I suggested something to another customer that they knew would not appreciate what I was suggesting. Service, quality, honesty. One of my FAVE Liquor stores around! Dina takes care of me! AND,. I can't believe that I hadn't reviewed until now! HUGE selection of beers, wines, liquors. Everyone that works here is super friendly...and the boys are a nice bit of eye candy! Tastings, gift baskets, monthly newsletters, delivery, special orders...if they don't have it, they will get it for you! Right around the corner from my work, so I go there on my way out of 'Gansett on most Fridays. If I am feeling rich (have extra $ in my pocket) I love doing the Mix-a-Six & sampling some beers that I have yet to try. This place in the Summer is SUPER CRAZY busy! After years of frequenting this establishment it's time to right a review. Place can be a hot mess and the owner/manager (whatever he is) is quite dismissive. I live across the street and frequent here often yet I can't even keep up with the changes. The store is constantly being rearranged and God forbid you ask a question about where something has been moved because the manager will have some snotty response like "well if you ask me where it is I'll show you". If you ask anyone else that works there they won't know because none of them are old enough to drink. Their stock is hardly consistent and the selection is always changing so if you find something you like (outside of bud light) it might not be there the next time you go look for it. The selection of wine is my main gripe it's very vanilla and seems to cater to tourists. While they carry a lot of the basics I never manage to score any good finds outside of that. The local discount day was recently switched and the girl got super flustered when I asked her about it. Depending who is working you have to ask about the discount and make a fuss or they won't give it you. Which brings me to my last and largest complaint which is that they can't seem to hire anyone in this store who is over the age of 20! Every time I ask a question about a product they don't know the answer (because they don't drink anything but twisted teas) and there is 0 expectation of customer service because of it. It's not their fault necessarily but it is the fault of the owner(s)/manager(s) who should know better than to employ young people in this specific type of establishment. It's fine for a tourist or URI kid but if you actually reside here I'd pop over to Wakefield liquors where the selection is better and people actually help you. This is just not a neighborhood liquor store. Jeez even the restaurants in the area that don't take reservations will hold tables for locals during the summer. Try taking care of your own! read more

They are quick to check you out and have offered to help me carry things to the car. On multiple occasions their staff has been able to assist in selecting the perfect gift as well. read more

It's rare that I take the time to write a review on Yelp, or any website/app for that matter, but I felt as though I needed to document the amazing work put forth by the Pier Liquors staff. The employees have a tremendous amount of knowledge on the wide selection of wine and beer within the store. Even when my mother was in town, they ordered her favorite wine (which also happens to be very hard to find anywhere) and kept in touch with me letting me know that it had been delivered, etc. Overall, Pier creates a friendly atmosphere and all employees are very helpful. read more

Thanks Debbie at Pier Liquors for successfully completely a birthday delivery for me! My fiancé and I live in CA, but our close friend turned 30 yesterday and we wanted to do something for him. Wasn't even sure if alcohol delivery was possible but I decided to call around and see what we could do. Pier was the first place I called and I'm glad it was! Debbie was happy to deliver at a time that worked for the recipient. There was a delivery minimum she asked that we get at least close to, which wasn't a problem, and completely understandable. The goods (a bottle of Oban and 30 of natty) were delivered perfect timing and she even put the bottle in a gift bag and put a bow on the beer. Best liquor store in Narragansett. Plenty of wine a liquor to chose from. And if you like craft beer, they have an excellent selection. Don't think they do mix-a-six but that's ok because they don't just have half or one cooler for cold crafts, they have about 6 dedicated to craft beer. The worst thing you can do is buy a beer and have to wait for it to chill, come to this joint and you have an excellent choice of brews ready to enjoy. You won't be disappointed (I hope)! read more

Be clear, I'm giving Pier Liquors a zero star review - it's just not an option on the rating meter. And I've never written a review on Yelp until now. Yes, Pier Liquors managed to reveal their complete ineptitude in such a profound way that I am actually taking time out of my day to write my first ever Yelp review. I will spare no details. The story follows, and always remember: with Pier Liquors, it could (and probably will) happen to you... We search high and low for a keg of Harpoon Summer Beer, and order said keg on a Monday in preparation for a party we are holding on Saturday. We are told that it will be shipped by the distributor to be picked up the day of the festivities. We leave our phone number just in case there are any complications. This becomes very important later. On Saturday, the day of the party, the 4th of July weekend beach traffic is congesting all major routes down to Narragansett, the town in which Pier Liquors is located. No matter. The anticipated taste of Harpoon Summer Beer is already dominating my ability to think clearly, and the anticipation of revelry while enjoying such a fine brew with friends has me in a Zen like trance that an hour of beach traffic cannot penetrate. I arrive at Pier Liquors, stroll inside, and pleasantly ask a younger gentleman about the status of the keg. He calls an associate up from another part of the store and I inquire again about the status of the keg. The exchange follows, recollected to the best of my ability: Me: 'We had ordered a keg of Harpoon Summer Beer for pickup today.' Young male Pier Liquors employee: 'Oh, yeah, the distributor actually never sent that in. So we didn't get it.' Now, recall how we left our phone number with them. Logic would suggest that they would go ahead and utilize methods of modern telecommunication and call us via the phone number provided in case of a delay or disruption in the shipment. Apparently, logic does not enter the vacuum that is Pier Liquors. So I ask the obvious question: Me: 'You know, it would have been nice if you had let us know about this before I drove an hour down here the day of the party to pick this up.' Young male Pier Liquors employee: 'We lost your phone number, so we couldn't call you.' I immediately went to my happy place to keep from saying something I regretted. But consider the irony. This 'business' that is tasked with providing alcohol to the public cannot keep track of 7 consecutive digits? I was actually in awe of what I was being told. What followed almost knocked me off my feet. Older female Pier Liquors employee: 'Yeah, keg didn't come in, not our problem.' Not your problem? It's not your problem? The only logical conclusion from this statement is that it is my problem. In the universe I live in - and it's clearly not that one you inhabit - it's incumbent on the merchant to be responsible for orders that are lost in transit or never sent at all. This responsibility includes ensuring orders are going to be delivered accurately and contacting the customer in a reasonable time frame so other accommodations can be made in time. This responsibility is multiplied sevenfold when Harpoon Summer Beer is involved. This woman is telling me that it is my fault that Pier Liquors ceases to understand how to function correctly as a business. My anger is palpable at this point. Young male Pier Liquors employee: 'We can give you a bunch of cases of beer and give you a discount.' Me: 'OK...what kind of discount are we talking here? This party starts in two hours and it seems like you guys screwed me pretty nicely here.' (I'm thinking a 50% discount, or more, is in order) Young male Pier Liquors employee: 'Like 5%' Let's do some simple math, Pier. I'm not sure what the keg would have cost - let's just say $150 to keep it a round number. Assuming I purchased enough beer to equal the volume of a keg, and assuming the cost of this was also right around $150, Pier Liquors is offering me a 5% discount, or $7.50 off. I think the gas I used to get down to the store is worth more than $7.50. A 5% discount was almost more insulting than what had already transpired. We exchange some more unpleasantries and I leave the store, vowing never to return again, and to warn others of the practices and attitude of this 'business.' So now you know. As for the party, we got resourceful and luckily located another keg in time for the festivities to go off without a hitch. Of course, I had to tell all 50 or so in attendance why there was no Harpoon Summer Beer. A few of them even remarked that Pier Liquors had done this kind of thing before to others, which I believe as I believe the sky is blue. The moral of the story is this: do not give this place business of any kind. They do not deserve it. Stopped in this store for the first time before the holidays. I usually stay in Wakefield and didn't even know about this shop. I'm a huge craft beer guy and was overwhelmed by all the cold beers they have to offer! They didn't have many singles but their six-pack prices were a bit lower than what I usually see. That night they were tasting an imported beer that was unlike anything I've had before and the employees were very helpful with showing me around their beer section.
