One of the most delicious beers in the state of Rhode Island is the Rise APA. It has so much flavor and doesn't fill you up like others. The staff is friendly and they were quick to help us. The menu is somewhat limited with beers so keep in mind that you have only a handful of choices. They let us bring food in from across the street which was very nice. There is a ton of space and games inside, but would prefer an outdoor space for summer. read more

Whalers Brewing Company is located in South Kingstown, RI. The parking lot is accessible after crossing a small bridge and there is ample parking spots. For donating blood between July 28 through August 31 at a Rhode Island Blood Center (RIBC), I received a beverage voucher for participating venues and one of them was Whalers Brewing Company. There were plenty of seating options for small groups and large groups. I chose Drift, a refreshing hard seltzer. The seltzer really tasted like sweet blueberries and lemon. It was light and refreshing. The staff member who served us was very friendly. We had picked up food from Jayd Bun before and consumed it at Whalers Brewing Company. It's great that you can bring food from neighboring restaurants. A good amount of people were there on a Saturday afternoon, both families, groups, and couples. There's a few breweries that I frequent in Providence out of convenience but they do not sell beers that I would actually consider drinking on the regular. Bathrooms were gross and small. Entrance was super hidden. Wouldn't have gone here if we didn't need somewhere to eat jayd bun. Disappointing since we are long time fans of this beer brand. Whalers is always reliable. I won't say that it's my favorite beer in RI, but if I'm in the area I always make a stop. Atmosphere is open with plenty of spots to sit, stand or even play some indoor games. It definitely feels like a college hangout which makes sense given its proximity to URI. They allow byof and on my last visit had a food stand set up inside. There were plenty of private parties too, and with their large space it makes it super easy to do so. Service is always super friendly, and the assortment of beverages is decent. Usually something for everyone and definitely at a great price point. Of course they're known for RISE, but I've had some really enjoyable stouts here so be sure to branch out on your next visit. read more

Whalers is such a great spot. I recently went there for a family gathering and it was the perfect location. I side is spacious with many tables and booths to sit or stand around. Corn hole a giant jenga and life size connect four and two pool tables. There is always kids of all ages in there and it's dog friendly. The staff is so helpful and courteous. They hold events such as yoga and artisan fairs from time to time so be sure to check that out as well oh and another awesome perk you can order food from anywhere that delivers and enjoy whatever food you want with their delicious beers or seltzers. This place is great for date night or a family meeting spot. Plenty of parking the only downfall id say is there's only one mens and one woman's bathroom with no mirror haha! But highly recommend. Nice brewery conveniently located near Jayd Bun where we ordered takeout. While waiting for our food, we checked out the scene at Whaler's. It's a little confusing exactly where the brewery is located (way in the back after you drive over a wooden bridge), but once we found ourselves inside, we were favorably impressed with the huge space and the fact that there was also a Field of Artisans art market happening there! The art market featured jewelry, home goods and gift idea items for great holiday shopping. For brews, I always enjoy their Rise beer and my love had their IPA. In fact, we enjoyed the experience so much we decided after to picking up our food to head back and enjoy our Jayd order there. Relaxed vibe. I'm always a little nervous when I see a lot of dogs in a brewery but none of the dogs here were problematic. Note that kids are not allowed after 6pm. Our visit spanned the 6-7 time slot and while most folks seem to respect their limits on kids, a few people still had kids inside when we left after 7, so not sure they enforce this very strictly. This place has an awesome interior - pool tables, corn hole boards, a ton of space - which makes it great for any time of year (but especially cold months). They're BYOF and have a ton of surrounding places to get food like Jade's Buns and Mews. Goes well with the 5-6 beers they usually have on tap, some of which stay on there seemingly all year round. My only gripe is that this place always has its space reserved for kids parties. It is what it is, but I wish they wouldn't allow for reservations for their space for these kinds of things. Kills the brewery vibe a little for me each time I can't play a round of pool or play corn hole without a crew climbing on them. Other than that, good brews and even better space. We came in after getting takeout at Jayd and were hit with what a hidden gem this is. It is a little difficult to find because the signage isn't great but this nondescript hallway leads into a little Narnia. Fairy lights covering the whole ceiling, games everywhere, beer and seltzer on tap, and clean and modern bathrooms. I had a delicious Blueberry and lemon flavor seltzer. I want to like Whalers more than I do, but I think 3 stars is right. Some of their beers are good, like Rise. Actually Rise is very good. But one really good beer isn't enough to make a roster of beers worthwhile. I've been in probably half a dozen times over the last few years and always tried at least a couple different brews each visit. Some of the beers were ok, some were less than ok. None are bad, but it feels to me like they're really only focused on Rise. That's not a bad business strategy because that beer is found almost everywhere locally and sells a ton. So yeah, sell the shit out of it, and congrats. There are simply better breweries in state, with better beers, better environments (unless you like dingy industrial vibes with no outdoor space) and better facilities. It seems to me that running the taproom space is at best a low priority in their business plan. It feels neglected and unwelcoming. read more

Its amazing to see the growth of a local brewing company over the past 6 years that I've been going. Sadly I don't get out to the Wakefield Area as much as I would like to, being that I'm about an hour drive from the brewery. Thankfully the whalers rise is making its way into almost every very local establishment, as well as package stores. Almost always have some in my beer fridge, as it's my favorite! Whether you bring to go food with you or order from the food truck there are now booths to sit and eat while you taste multiple seasonal brews. Plenty of games to partake in as well as sometimes music. The staff is friendly and very helpful with choosing the style of brew that will compliment your food or a flavor profile of choice. What a fun spot! We came in, and this place is huge! They have corn hole inside, multiple seating areas, and pool tables. Could easily accommodate larger groups. We tried a hazelnut stout that was creamy and delicious. I also tried a fruity seltzer called drift- this flavor was blueberry lemon. It was tart and refreshing and light. I visited the brewery over the weekend and had an amazing experience. It was great to finally try a Whalers draft beer, especially since I've seen it all over New England since moving here. I saw a review from earlier this month from a woman who expressed her dislike for the brewery, particularly because they allow pets. Personally, I had a fantastic time and loved having the dogs around; I completely disagree with her opinion. I appreciate that breweries are pet-friendly, and I think it enhances the experience. I witnessed all of the drama that she left in her wake today. From the moment the couple arrived, they exhibited confrontational behavior towards both fellow patrons and staff, creating an uneasy atmosphere in the brewery. There was a lot of disdain from her and her husband witnessed towards dog owners. Their swift departure left behind a noticeable tension that dissipated as they left (especially as they slammed the door when they left). Great local brewery. My most recent visit was to pick up a few howlers of a limited edition brew that I wish was permanent. I first tried Piesces at a Yelp event where Whalers was giving samples. It was so good. As soon as I saw on Instagram that they were bringing it back this year, I made plans to head down there and stock up. Piesces is an apple pie sour ale. Its has flavors of cinnamon, vanilla and apple. Its amazing. read more

It's a cool spot. Lately seems to be taken over by children's birthday parties but they recently redid some seating areas. Great place to spend an afternoon. They don't have a ton of beer selection so check before you come. But typically their special Rise and IPA, and usually a hard seltzer and/or sour. I had their East Coast IPA, at 6.5 % ABV, and my better half had their Rise ale at 5.5% ABV. There was also an indoor art show. There's ample seating and patrons are encouraged to order takeout food and enjoy it at their venue. Very clean restrooms. I love your beer, especially the RISE APA. it is my go to beer whene it's available. So.... I have an issue. I buy 6 packs from Bristol RI, and usually I have encountered sour batches This spring/summer. Sometime the whole six pack, sometimes just a few cans. I am not that particular btw, the issue is immediately obvious and not good. I've dumped several down the drain . Just letting you know because if this was my first experience with the APA I would not have bought more. read more

First thing you notice is safety measures are in place. Give your name & cell # to get a table. No cash transactions. Tables are spaced or blocked off, everyone in masks, areas were wiped off regularly. Definitely felt safe. Table service and beers came quickly despite how crazy busy they were. Staff were friendly and chitchatting with everyone, definitely felt welcomed. Beers came in plastic disposal cups, no flights. All part of the safety measures. Whalers is by far my favorite hangout spot. It can be a little hard to find - it is in an old mill complex (hint: go over the tiny bridge!). The parking can be tough on weekend nights but it's totally worth it. Inside the bar offers a constantly changing selection of beers (nothing else on the menu, so if you aren't a beer fan you'll be disappointed). You can order them by the pint or in a flight. The beer is TOP NOTCH and they make great sours. The area is huge will tons of seating, a mix of high tops and booths. There is a game area with giant jenga, pool tables, giant connect 4, and 2 cornhole sets. Oh, did I mention it's DOG FRIENDLY?! Why can't every bar have puppies? FYI there is no kitchen, but you can order delivery from local restaurants and they come right in. I will also say it can get crowded on weekend nights and you might struggle to find a place to sit, let alone get a turn at the games. The beer is always great and the atmosphere can't be beat. Brilliant business plan: make good beer, Locate your business in an old Victorian, stone, textile building,with tons of room inside for families to come with their kids, & their well behaved dogs. If you want bring in outside food, play games and hang out. Play a good mix of music to keep the mood uplifting and you have a great time to be had! Loved how mixed the crowd was...older folks like us, to young families, along with singles. Wish we had somewhere like this place back home. This is the first brewery I've been to that I loved every beer on tap. All six were excellent. Came with five other people at opening time, for their Sunday Brunch So Hard w/ Liege Waffles. Grabbed a table, a couple beers, jumped in line for waffles. People were setting up for 2 different baby showers- that's a first for me, a baby shower at a brewery. Family friendly before 6pm, kids running around jumping on everything. Poor games got a beating. It was packed. read more
