I've been going to the Puyallup Fair (THAT'S WHAT IT'S CALLED) since I was a child. It's been a…read moreyearly tradition for my family and now that I'm a parent, it's a tradition for my kids too! We recently took our kids for a Dizzy Pass day and MAN those are expensive now. I remember when they use to be like $40 and for both of my kids to get a Dizzy Pass it was $140 which is crazy work. I will say it's worth it to make sure they can do a ton of rides, but still. I feel like they added some rides to Sillyville this year which is always a bonus. My kids had such a blast and they did basically every ride. We were smart in terms of food and packed them lunches because they never end up wanting to eat any actual food from the fair so when we do buy them a $20 meal, it goes to waste. So pro tip - pack your kiddos their own food and cut that cost! My husband and I went back for a date night a week or so after taking the kids so that we could check out the new 1900 Food Hall and Rooftop Bar. The new food choices are good additions - we tried the sandwich spot and the new Asian spot. Both were decent, but next year I definitely want to try the Seattle Dog style corndog. The rooftop bar is a VIBE! Especially at night. They did an awesome job with the space. It's pretty big, with lots of different seating options. Bartenders were nice and tried their best to get through the very long line. Prices were shockingly not bad for the fair and were comparable to a regular bar's prices. Overall it was another great year at the fair and we'll be excited when it rolls around next year!

The festival was on Labor Day weekend this year which gave it more of an issue to compete with other happenings on the long holiday weekend. As an avid beer nerd there are several things I look for in these types of events, one is is it at a place that is easy to get to and has plenty of parking and then inside has plenty of places to sit. The next is the level of literature about the beers and the breweries featured. And third the "extras" like food and entertainment. Tacoma Craft Beer Festival is at a nice park next to the Foss Waterway which has a major road that goes overhead creating a large shaded area to sit under and that creates an area for the food vendors and honey buckets to be placed. Most all of the breweries are under there own tents and are spread out among the park with almost all on the grass. The stage for the bands was placed a little further away to have more an area for people to listen and not be in other people's way. They had a good list of breweries from all over, local, national and the world. My only real complaint for this year is they did have a map of where all the breweries were in the park, they did not have a list of what each brewery was serving, (This is something every other festival does.) All in all a good summer day spent drinking a lot of good beer.

Cost was alright, $30 for 10 tastes was fairly reasonable, my only real complaint here was the additional $10 parking fee, which I felt should have been included. Beer selection was great, and we all found a new favorite from a local brewery none of us had never heard of (real ginger ale at 11% FTW). Crowd was good and setting was pretty mellow, though it might have picked up later (we left around 5). There was live music for most of the day, but they were having some issues there. First off, of the 3 bands, one was okay, one was terrible and the last seemed to be having some serious technical problems. It didn't help that the sound system was also horrible, everything sounding tinny and piercing. Logisitics also did not seem that good, it seeming to take quite awhile to swap out bands. Seeing the question about dancing below? It might have helped to lay down a temporary dance floor assuming there eventually were danceable bands playing.

Alan made the racing experience exciting with his commentary and Kindness. This place has so many slot cars to pick from. The track runs so smoothly and has fun twists and turns. Highly recommend for kids and adults. You get to kinda experience racing without the risks, you car might crash if you're not careful with the turns ;)

got up saturday morning looking forward to what I thought was going to be my first time on a 1:32…read moretrack... not unhappy to say that I have rarely been more wronger. turns out that despite what it says on the wall they also race 1:24 scale cars here; 'car' being the operative word. the cars you race actually look like cars, only smaller! about 96% smaller but they are obviously real cars with wheels and tires and electric motors and subject to sudden power loss just like full-size electric cars ;-) wasn't sure if I'd get any track time because it's a race day but I figured that since I was here I'd have a look at how the other half lives. fortunately for me a light turnout left an open space so I was able to borrow a car to get me some laps and enter my first competitive event! yea!! on the down side I still don't know much about the scale racing crowd other than the racers are genial and tracks are a little slower but way drivier; it's kinda like the old VHS -vs- BetaMax discussions. for the casual driver it's not really a question of better or worse, it's a matter of what appeals (more fastly or more drivey?) and what's available. 132 is a great facility featuring scale model racing on a couple of different circuits with a couple tracks currently off-line including a straight line along the wall. Alan is more a host than a front man, ready to share his vast knowledge and stories to entertain as well as educate and introduce people to the world of little cars. and of course parts and accessories and cars are available for purchase. If you never have you really should. if you did you will. if you do you know: race what you like, like what you race, but above all it's supposed to be fun :-) guess I'm gonna buy at least one car when I come back.

Had an amazing time at the electric run. This was my second untimed 'fun run' in recent years, and…read moreit didn't disappoint. The energy was great, staff were super friendly, parking was easy (and free!), the race felt well organized, the lines, though long, moved quickly, the shirts are cute and glow in the dark (of course), and the course was just super fun. Loved the candy land theme with gummy bears and dance party at the end - I'm more of a hip hop R&B girl, but EDM seemed fitting. lol. and loved that they also served scones there! :D :D :D. Best part: I lost my ID somewhere amidst glow sticks, suds, black light and fun... lost and found didn't have it, so I found myself retracing my steps while everyone else grabbed a beer :(..but every staff member was so friendly and helpful.... half way through the course, I miraculously decided to turn right instead of left and a police officer called over to me and asked if I was looking for someone. I told him I had lost my ID and he said oh...what's your name and birthdate? Smiled, and handed me my ID... what are the chances!? :)

This is my 2nd year volunteering at the electric run in Puyallup (or Seattle, as they label…read moreit...even though it's like 40 minutes away from Seattle but oh well!) It's so much fun. The energy is amazing. The people you get to work with are amazing, the whole experience is...amazing. I was stationed at the last stretch of the run last night, the energy of all the runners when they found out it was almost over was so much fun to work with. To be the light at the end of the tunnel for these runners was exciting. After the run is done, you get to go into the pavillion & join a huge dance party. They have a live dj & fun decorations. The atmosphere is high energy!! They threw out a ton of glow Sticks & had huge balloons everywhere. Everything was glow in the dark & black lights. This 5K is one of the bests around. Sign up as a group & run with all your friends. Dress up, dress down, whatever you want! The different courses you go through make it go by quickly & you have fun every step of the way. If you've never done one, make this your first.

Tacoma's Pride Festival has steadily grown since Steve and I first attended it when we were new…read moreresidents to Tacoma. It increasingly took up more space downtown until the 2025 year where they moved it to Wright Park to accommodate it's continued growth. It's a more low key celebration compared to Seattle Pride where it can get overwhelming very easily with the crowds and trying to at least get a decent view of the parade. But on the flip side there are more "bells and whistles" comparatively to Olympia Pride which some may find too "lo fi" or granola. Really each festival I'm these cities has it's own vibe and you just need to decide which one fits you. There are plenty of vendors here, food trucks, musicians, performers and different kinds of service option vendors to meet people's needs within the LGBT community. While the main Pride events happen in June as that is officially the month to have them some cities stagger them into July or even August so folks aren't put in a conflicted position as to where to go in but the four, short weekends in June. Tacoma's Pride is typically in July to avoid all that and that's cool since Pride should be acknowledged and celebrated every month of the year.

I was surprised to look it up On Friday night & realize that it is this weekend, April 9th on Saturday in 4 locations around Pierce County. This is a can't miss opportunity for us. It's such a fun one with the Daffodil Princesses on a big float & all the other cool floats filled with spring flowers & bands from local area schools! It's definitely our one of favorite parade of the year here in the Northwest. My girls love seeing the Daffodil princesses all dressed up!
