I wasn't shocked by that price, but once they gave me the itemized receipt I was. The diamond itself was $15!!! How the hell do you get to $165 from there? Swindling and being robbed in front of your face. I hate this place. I wouldn't have even gone in the first place, but there are so few trustworthy jewelers in the area. I will be looking elsewhere next time I have jewelry needs. My 2nd encounter was remenecent of the good old '"due to covid" line so foundly used by salesmen as a means to swindle hard working people out of their money. After learning that trades were offered I brought in mutiple 18k gold necklaces to apply towards a possible purchase, yet another big ticket item only to find that low scrap prices were offered. To make matters worse their asking price was insane and absolutely outrageous. $180 per gram for 14kt gold- how criminal! A price point of $100 per gram over spot. A 200% plus market up. Needless to say this particar business has lost a potential life long customer, one whom that enjoys shiny and quality things. One whom doesn't shy away from a fair deal even if it's costly. In a time where many people are struggling sales on luxury items are few and far between despite what they'd lead the consumer to believe. And most of my collection is sterling silver so, naturally, I would gravitate toward a store where the collection is primarily in silver (though they work in gold and other metals as well). While Hi Ho Silver caries lovely classic silver rings with semi-precious stones and handsome chains, there are also some pieces that really need to be seen to be believed. There was an entire collection of two and three tone pendants (silver, brass and copper) that were translations of classic works of art! There was a pendant that was based on Klimt's "The Kiss", another based on Goya's "The Witches' Sabbath" and yet another based on Vermeer's "Girl with a Pearl Earring." And that was just three! There were quite a few more. One of the jewelers seemed very pleased with my and my friend's art historical knowledge and she chatted quite a bit about jewelry, art, mythology and folklore with us. As an anthropologist, I was really excited that one of her pieces was based on the Venus of Willendorf. My one reservation was that I have so much jewelry that I didn't find a piece that wouldn't simply live in my jewelry box.
