Pretty solid, very authentic, almost clean. The food comes close to 4 star status, but the dinginess and indifferent service dragged down the experience for us. The Torta Ahogada was really pretty tasty- Pan Salado was a little too chewy in my opinion, they offer a mild and a spicy "ahogada" sauce which were both very good, the pork was very tender and delicious. Have not tried any of the other menu items other than the salsas. Worth a trip for the Torta Ahogada, next time you find yourself in Paramount. read more

First visit; the food was great, the service was great. Today second visit was not so great. We had a party of six. No one waiting in front of us. The waiter was cleaning off two tables. The manager asked my party of six to wait outside. Fours went out, my elderly mother and I stayed inside because it was cold. The manager proceeded to tell me she would be shut down if two of us waited inside. I asked her if we could sit in the empty clean table and she said she had a wait list but two seconds later proceeded to sit us at the same empty table. She wanted half of my party to sit and the other half to share a table with another party. The other party told her they would not fit three people in a table meant for two. I refused to have half my party share a table. She was rude unapologetic, and uncompationate. I thought this place was great until today. I will think twice before coming again. I waited over an hour for a torta and menudo and tacos only for them to tell me they were out of menudo. I asked them how much longer for the tacos dorados and he said "they are going to start your order already". I canceled my order and left. They don't give chip and salsa while you wait either. Not once did the waiter come and check up on our table while we waited for our food. When he finally came to our table it was to tell us they had ran out of menudo. I've come here plenty of times! Let me just start by saying the food is good.. but the service today was something else. We walk in grab some menus go sit down wait 10 mins no one comes so we go inside and order, I'm getting charged 50 bucks mind you we're only 2 people. What? Cashier misunderstood and almost charged me for the same plate twice. So now we wait... 10 mins go by we don't even have our drinks... they come a little while after. Patience is a virtue right? 20 more mins go by.. now it's been 30 minutes and we still don't have our food??? Then I ask for a refund cause I have to leave but don't get it cause finally after 40 something minutes of being here our food is ready. The food here reminded me of home, where Abuelita or my Tia would whip up authentic dishes along with all the fixings and tortillas a mano! Delicious!! Also had a chance to meet the owner who was kind enough to say hello and gave us a little history on his background as well as the restaurant! My major problem with this place was it's lack of cleanliness. The dirty floor, not that I was planning on eating off of it, but it shows me the pride of ownership. Unclean tables, the dirty window sill full of dust and flies, and the flies flying around the tables. I can't believe this place actually had me wishing I was at La Chiva Loca. Our order was a torta ahogada of carnitas with two fried cheese tacos (requeson), a green wet burrito of carne asada, and a few tacos of barbacoa. I wanted to come here because my girl just loves the other place, which I do not, due to their lack of variety and disappointing "normal" mexican food. So I figured more stuff -- time to try what they're known for, since it should be the best thing on their menu. The torta was comparable. In fact probably better than all the fat-induced mess on what I usually have. The burrito was cool too, not too bad of a salsa and just ok flavor on the meat. Nothing to rave about, which is my goal. What sucked were the tacos de requeson. So brittle, and easily became soggy rather quickly. The tacos de barbacoa were simple meat (nothing else!) inside a folded tortilla that seemed to be dipped in an enchilada sauce. The meat was clean, but the whole thing tasted like it has been put together some time ago and was just under a heat lamp. The place had too much going on, was too busy with variety. Would have like simplicity and focus on fewer items done a better way instead of so much choice. Not bad, but won't go again. read more

They have a wide menu that includes tacos de barbacoa, tacos, menudo, antojitos, all the way to tradicionales chocomiles. My mouth gets watery just to think of all you can eat in this place. If you like chili in your food then ask for the spicy salsa. Tacos dorados de frijoles or papa are a great compliment to the spicy torta. Im not finished... The carne en su jugo will make you want to keep reordering. I liked it so much i ordered for a party of 10. If you are feeling guilty after you are done eating, get a freshly made juice to go! Pika, makes the best torts Ahogada I've had in LA County. Carnitas were awesome soft flavorful and you can control spice level I ordered a half and half it was a nice spice, not too hot. What makes a good torts ahogada is the bread the bread here was the best wasn't to soggy and the top had a crispy and still had a good crunch. The special comes with two tacos dorados you can pick from papa or beans. I chose papa served with shredded cabbage and cheese. The location has a small parking lot in a strip mall.
