I've been going to A & D Barber for about a year now. I have to say they are the best barbershop I've found since moving to Phoenix in the late 90's. I don't know what I can say that hasn't already been said about this place. The barbers are top notch. Art runs a tight ship. For $19, you can't beat the cut, hot towel and shoulder massage. I make it in every 3-4 weeks and rarely have more than a 30-minute wait. I have nothing but great things to say about this place. I had not been to a barber in years... YEARS. the at-home bowl cut just wasn't working for me anymore, and the Flowbee died... I could kick myself for not purchasing that extended service plan, way back in '92. But anyhow, this leads me to last Friday afternoon.. truly, it was happy-fun day! I WENT TO A REAL BARBER. This barbershop was the closest to my work that I found on yelp which had really good reviews. Robert ended up giving me a great fade and I got a lot of compliments at work the next day. I would definitely recommend going back to this shop even though is not my normal barbershop which is close to my home. I have been through at least ten barber shops in Phoenix over the years. Artur and Mike are by far the BEST! The quality of the cut, the precision and the care they give each customer is awesome. Sure you have to wait sometimes, but they have a good selection of magazines for everyone and they offer bottled water while you wait. They play great music and will always honor customers request to change channels. They have awesome videos playing and do a great job. This place is customer friendly to all customers! Don't come here if you want to be greeted by a warm and friendly staff or actually want to receive the haircut that you asked for. I had my hopes up coming here. I've had poor experiences with one of their competitors (also a Russian barbershop- language problems, bad customer service) and was hoping this one would be a little better. Needless to say, my hopes were let down. When it was my turn, the barber sort of made a grunt and I guess that was my cue to sit in the chair. Really friendly. I told him exactly what I wanted and was very specific, even showed him a PICTURE and told him what I did not want. This did not matter. He proceeded to give me a taper (what I asked him not to do- it wasn't even pictured in the image I showed him) and basically butchered my hair and the end result was nothing like the picture. This is not a very hard haircut, mind you. I'm not even able to say it was a language barrier that prevented him from giving me the haircut that I asked for considering I put it right in front of his face. It's just a simple case of being incompetent. He used no scissors on my hair (I am white and I do not have short hair). I'm sorry, but any barber that does not feel comfortable using scissors should not call themselves a barber. The whole time, I was faced AWAY from the mirror. I was faced towards a TV that was drowned out by another TV playing Russian programming. Thanks. Didn't really appreciate that. Best part- he CUT my neck with the clippers (in the middle of giving me this super sweet taper that I asked him not to do). I am still left with cut marks 2 days later. I beg any of you that is reading this review to avoid this shop. I honestly can't see why anyone would pay money to receive inferior customer service and not even get a good haircut out of it. It saddens me that places like this flourish while people are under the illusion that it's a quality barbershop just because they have curtains and TVs. read more

I've been in Phoenix for a little less than 4 years now, and spent the the better part of 2 years looking for the right barber. I don't consider myself to be too picky, but like anybody, I want a good cut and service. A&D does an exceptional job at both. Everyone there is very precise, and you can tell they take pride in their craft. It's a good atmosphere, with several tv's and a lot of magazines to read while waiting. The only negative things I can even say are 1) the parking lot is a disaster to park in sometimes (not really their fault, just a limited parking strip mall area) and 2) sometimes wait times can be much longer than I would like....I really think they would benefit from taking appointments, for us busy people. PLEASE start taking appointments Artur! I give A&D 5 stars though, because at the end of the day, they simply cut hair so much better than anyone else. read more

I have finally found a place that I am happy with. These guys really know how to cut hair and give one of the best close shaves you could experience. I always come out of there feeling really good on the money that I have spent which is great for the price. This place is great! It's clean and the staff is very nice. I looked around for a barber shop that did classic men cuts and I found it here. From my experience most barber shops today only do fades and don't know how to use a pair of scissors. I showed one of the barbers a picture of the cut I wanted and he knew exactly what to do. Yes, I am a fan of A&D Barber Shop. It is a classy, sophisticated place but it isn't pretentious. The barbers don't act like they're doing you a favor, and they do take the time to learn what kind of haircut you want. My only two criticisms are (1) without the ability to make an appointment, you do find yourself facing a long wait at times (as someone else said), and (2) due to religious reasons--they are Orthodox Jews-- A&D is NOT open on Saturdays. I would go there all the time, because I like them better than I like V's, but Saturday is my day to get all the stuff done that I don't have time for during the week, and it is a real pain not to be able to get a haircut on Saturdays. read more

First time in yesterday. I have been looking for a full-service barber her in the Phoenix Valley, as my regular barber (in Tucson) is on vacation till after the new year. I believe haircuts shouldn't feel like I am in the Army. These guys are one of the few, truly neck-up barbers who fully use their barber license. Facials ($25), shaves ($23?), beard trims($8), shampoo, etc. Haircut was $19. Paul was my barber and did an excellent job. I was a walk-in and was seen immediately. Paul took his time, rechecking length, shaved the back of the neck with a straight razor, hot towel, and massage. Bright and Clean with TVs at each chair. Price seemed fair to the work performed. I used to go to this barbershop quite frequently. I do want to support businesses in Phoenix who are either gay owned and/or gay friendly. This barbershop definitely does that and for this I commend them. However, I've had two miserable haircuts in a row. On top of that, I had asked them about their promotion that they routinely send emails about. I no longer new the number that was assigned to me when I registered. He could not help me with that. Let's make one thing clear, I LOVE barber shops. A good haircut is second to none. As the saying goes, "you're only as good as your last haircut." What's really nice about A&D Barber Shop is that your cut will be phenomenal, because Arthur takes his time with a cut. I've been plenty of barber shops that can give you your cut and sweep you out the door, but it isn't always to my standards. I get a super high and tight fade to skin with a very severe side part, and almost no length taken off the top. It's a more difficult cut than your normal taper and fade. And lots of barbers have botched it. Arthur tackles it no problem. We socialize the entire time and he couldn't be friendlier. There are complaints about wait time, but it's a barber shop. Wait time happens. And scheduling appointments at barber shops isn't like making a set-in-stone appointment at a salon. Realistic expectations are your best bet, you can always call ahead to see what the wait is like! All in all, I get great haircuts from here and enjoy the time I'm getting them cut. Also, splurge and get the whole nine yards. A gentleman's delight. read more
