Some of the bathroom fixtures were showing signs of damage, corners have dings, ceilings have bald spots and patches, nothing is dirty but everything just has those signs of use. None of it is offensive. with these styles of hotels having the same rough layout, it highlights the minor cosmetic flaws. Beds were firm, pillows were somewhat flimsy, and delivery services refused to go inside to drop off food. But the front end staff were very friendly and hospitable. All in all, it's effective as a close-by airport hotel. Nothing flashy, but affordable and functional. Go in with minimal expectations and you will find just enough to be satisfied.

Even the *towels* here are top-notch. When I checked to make sure I didn't have down pillows, I found brand new allergy shield pillow covers on high-quality synthetic pillows. When you stay in a B&B in an old Victorian or heritage home, usually that means dealing with a tiny bathroom, undersized shower, and so on; the beautiful old home that houses Riverside Gables was completely renovated in fall 2012, with nice big showers, new fixtures, and new floors. Guests even have a sitting room, with a kitchenette and fridge, Keurig coffee machine, spare dishes, and (my favorite) electric kettle and teapots for tea. Glass bottles of water are kept chilled for the use of the guests, and it was great to have that bottle of water to take to my room (and also not feel like I was wasting a plastic bottle just to have something cold to drink.) There's also a separate back door for guests. Breakfast has been excellent: fruit salad to start, juice, a beautiful omelette the first time I stayed and a Belgian waffle this morning. The owners have a beautiful Golden Retriever, but he is not allowed in the B&B portion of the house. Catherine is lovely to talk to, knowledgeable about the area, and responsive to the needs and preferences of her guests. The parking lot had many craters, HUGE car damaging holes to slalom around. The room was on the ground floor. Thank God i didnt damage my car getting to the room. Upon entering the cigarette smell was INCREDIBLY strong. I wondered if the room was clean, as I couldn't smell any air freshner when we entered. The sink had actual cigarette ash just left in it, which IMMEDIATELY had me SERIOUSLY questioning if the room was even cleaned. The floors looked vacuumed, the beds were made. There were NUMEROUS cigarette burns in the carpet, comforters and curtains. The fabric covered chair had a cornucopia of mystery stains and burn holes as well. The ceiling looked to have water damage in many areas that were patched and painted over. But the coup de gras was the tub. It LOOKED FILTHY and had SO MUCH PUTTY, SO MUCH PUTTY. Why not just replace it. As you can see, we purchased cleaning supplies and heavy duty fabreeze. For the quality of the room, any charge above FREE would have been overcharging. You have to return your room keys to the front office upon check out. We were literally the 3-4 hours while waiting for our actual hotel's check-in. The gentleman at the front desk was very kind and polite. I'm thinking he was an owner. He seemed to care about his employees very much. That was why they got at least 1 star.
