I love this store! We were trolling the Lower East Side and stumbled upon the mecca of all things Chanel. The 2 gentlemen who run this boutique are super friendly and helped me make my selection. The vintage jewelry selection is terrific and all the items are in very good shape. The bags are beautiful and carefully curated. The clothing looked lovely and none of that "thrift store" smell. While taking a stroll through Lower East Side I walked into the Pilgrim store with my BF. The way the store was set up felt like museum. Naturally I didn't want touch anything. One of the store owners walked over to show me some of the hand bags I was eyeing. Brian made us feel comfortable. He explained that they were vintage and how their items are handpicked. Of course I fell in love with a vintage Celine bag. After leaving the store I could not stop talking about this amazing bag. A month later my fiancé got me MY VINTAGE CELINE bag as a birthday/saying yes gift. I love love my bag and thank Brian for being such a great sales man. My fiancé was def happy with the way he was treated at the store and even more delighted to see my face light up with my gift. I have been the hero many times over due to the top of the line selections offered by this shop. My wife, sister and mother are always impressed with the Hermes, Chanel, and Celine handbags. My mom loves the jewelry! Because most of the inventory has never been used, the quality and condition is incredible. I have never had any issues with the owners, who are always friendly, helpful, and educated about their merchandise. I guess you get what you give, and I try to be friendly to all, and not act like I'm self entitled or deserving. I am curious though, as to why anybody would think it's okay to look at, of all high priced things, a Chanel bag with the front door open? I have been a customer for years, and will be for many more! Just updating my review. It's now 2018 - years later - and I still couldn't be more happy with Pilgrim. On my most recent trip, I had a special item in mind - pearls - and I found a stunning piece from the 80s that I could not live without. The same shop owners are still there. The inventory remains impressive and the prices, extremely fair for the quality that you'll go home with. Therefore wanted to share that Pilgrim remains an unique gem in the world of designer vintage. PS - Still rocking my bag and it's as pretty as the day I discovered Pilgrim. Love that particular years style. ------------------------- I learned about this place using Yelp reviews, so I have to give back to the universe. Extremely pleased with my purchase - a vintage Chanel bag. I scoured NYC looking at both used and new bags and this was the one that I could by with ZERO reservations. Why? 1) There are a ton of vintage dealers in NYC, with prices in a rather wide range. However, only at Pilgrim did I find a pristine purse for a very fair price. 2) The new Chanel bags just aren't the same quality as the vintage - down to the gold hardware and quality of the lambskin. This is the most pretentious place I have ever stepped foot in. I'm glad other customers have felt the same way. The sales associate gave me so much attitude I couldn't comfortably browse or pick up any items for sale with out feeling like I was disrupting him. It's almost like I disgusted him and was not welcome. I would never spend a dime here, ever. Hopefully the store can hire sweet people to work there in the future, but I will never be going back. I wished I can put 0 star for this place. The guy sitting behind the table didn't greet the customer, but showing an unwelcoming expression. After I thoroughly browsed through the store, which most of the cloths and jewelry look outdated and off season; I inquired about a pair of classic Chanel earrings, it was $550, he added that it was 2012 collection. I inquired more about the source of the item. He just flipped off, and started yelling that he is the Top 10 store in the world, and he had been on Harpers & Vogue, I'm an idiot, he wouldn't need to deal with this, he shut the display shelve door, and buzzed me out. I should have just shop in Chanel boutique than wasting my time to stop by this place to listen to a crazy arrogant guy. He should know that there are so many shops that was featured on Harpers or Vogue, I was on these publications and others as well... It is no big deal for having some Chanel in his store. It was an utter waste of my time and patience and I was very disappointed. Take it from someone who has been to a lot of vintage shops in London + Paris, Pilgrim is a joke. I've been shopping here since it opened -- and everything I've purchased here has been a winner. The merchandise is not cheap -- but it is a great value. I'd rather have one beautifully made garment (not sewn in an overseas sweatshop) than 100 poorly constructed ones. The owners are very friendly and helpful, offering honest opinions of how things look on -- even if it means losing a sale -- and have a terrific eye for fabulous designer vintage finds. My only regret is that Richard stopped designing his gorgeous line of clothing. But they now carry vintage Japanese clothing, along with some local designers, in addition to the selection of designer vintage in the back room. This is not a recent trip, but I think I should still write a review about this shop since I adore vintage Chanels and this place's got a great inventory of them. I made a purchase last summer, a mini vintage lambskin GHW Chanel handbag. It was my first time to the shop, I just happened to stumbled upon it while taking a walk in the neighborhood (I move there last spring, and the display case is amazing!!). When I walked into the store, there's only 1 other customer in there and the sales associate was cleaning something near the cash register. Nonetheless, he looked up and greeted me and went back to what he was working on. That's cool. Since I got draw into the store because of what was displayed, I asked him immediately to let me try the mini Chanel bag and I also asked for the price at the same time. He went and grabbed the bag and told me the price of the bag while he was getting it. I tried the bag on, and he pointed me to the back of the shop to where the mirror is. I was there for a good few mins. He came back to me once and told me that various ways the bag could be carried and that they got the bag from France and it is a unused item (aka new item), and that they are not a consignment store and this and that. It's all good. I struggled for a few more mins and decided to caved in and asked him to pack it up for me. He then took the bag and show me how to take care of the lambskin. Which is helpful. When he is trying to ring me up, he realized that he had told me the wrong price and that the bag was $100 more than the price he had told me. He make sure I was aware of that but he honoring the price that he had told me. Which is very nice of him. So why the 4 stars? First of all, the price point there is comparable to new items in the store (Chanel bag wise). If you preferred vintage and don't mind the price point, then it's a great place for you. They carried unused vintage Chanels and they are in amazing condition. However, unused is not the same as new. Some of these bags are over 20 years old, they have some signs of aging. That brings a half a star down. The other factor is the sales associate, yes, he is very helpful but he's not very "friendly". I am not sure what the problem is, he's very attentive, but you just have this feeling that he doesn't wants to be bothered. read more

Went to New York on vacation last month. Ran into this store just browsing. If you love Chanel this is the place t come.The owners are very knowledgeable. Great selection. They say it changes often. The vintage jewelry is stunning. Everything is very well priced too I think. I like the way they lay out the store. Its easy to look through and you can see everything. Very well organized. They will also take your name and cell, if they don't have exactly what you want. If they find the item you're looking for they will let you charge it over the phone and they will ship it to you! Not a good experience. I visited the store a little while back and witnessed what I believe to be one of the owners (very tall) loudly berate a customer for asking a question regarding a piece of jewelry. I did not hear the question, but the response by the owner was, what I thought, extremely inappropriate and degrading to the customer. I must have looked poor to the guy working in the store, because when I asked the price of the Chanel bags he initially didn't want to tell me and I had to specifically ask multiple times before he deigned to get up and tell me. He repeated multiple times that the bags were hand made etc- which anyone knows who buys a vintage Chanel bag. I originally "liked" this store on Facebook because I saw an ad for them for vintage Chanel. I'm obsessed with vintage Chanel (albeit I can't afford it...sigh), so I was immediately interested. A few weeks ago, I was in the area and decided I wanted to see the place in person (and drool over the said Chanel). It's not a large store, but they pack a lot of stuff in there and it is neatly organized. It's vintage, consignment and designer. It's not cheap, but I didn't expect it to be. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. They have some beautiful jewelry and some gorgeous vintage dresses (there was a flapper like one that I almost died over) and covetable handbags. I ended up looking at some of the none-vintage dresses and without having gone in there intending to buy something, I ended up trying 2 on and getting one. I didn't feel pushed to buy anything I tried on from the owners, which is wonderful. The dress I ended up getting was around $200 which was reasonable for what it was. It did need to be tailored a bit and they recommended a tailor around the corner from them that they have always used and came highly recommended. And last, but certainly not least...even though they clearly knew I wasn't going to be purchasing one of the Chanel bags, they took one out of the case and let me "try it on" and be in my own little slice of heaven for a little bit. Awful shop, awful owner! If ever there was bad service, this place was it! I was relieved to see similar reviews about this place from other yelp reviewers. I had been browsing in the store for vintage Chanel bags and was walking out when a seemingly lovely Chanel bag in the window caught my eye. I went back in to take a look and the sale associate (super lovely man) came to show it to me. I had left the door open for less than a minute at this point before the presumably owner came out yelling loudly that the door had to be closed and that 'air conditioning cost money'. I returned the bag and said 'it was just a minute' and he had the audacity to yell out 'F*%^ YOU' to me in front of four other clients in the store - which was super unprofessional - to which I replied 'right back at you' and walked out. With an attitude like that, he probably has lost a ton of customers and probably not generating income so it makes sense that he would be concerned about the 50 cents it cost to leave the door open, even for a minute (meanwhile the gallery a few doors down had a wide open door). For better vintage Chanel and other luxury brand handbags in my opinion, go to a store inside the Manhattan Antique center on 57th. Save your money and get better service! read more

Returned in an hour and a half and discovered they had put the necklace back on display (if you weren't going to hold it for me, you could have just said so) AND had raised the price of the necklace by $100. This store has beautiful things but my complaint is with the owner. We went in yesterday and browsed for a bit. As we closed the door behind us while leaving (and after I'd thanked the owner), I heard a loud "EXCUSE ME". Both of us turned in surprise and walked back in the store. At this point, we were maybe 4 feet tops from the owner and back inside the store. He could easily have walked over to us and said, "Hey, do you recall where you put that necklace you were looking at?" Instead, from right where he was, he yelled while pointing an accusing finger at me "WHERE IS THAT GIVENCHY NECKLACE???" The entire store turned to look at us. I was shocked but pointed out that I had replaced it in the exact spot where I'd picked it up from. Perhaps it was at an angle he couldn't easily see. He looked and sure enough it was right there. Even that would have been OK if at that point, he'd taken the time and been courteous enough to come over and say, "Sorry about that" or ANYTHING to mitigate his hostile and accusing manner earlier. Nothing. He just muttered "Oh I didn't see it" under his breath. We left, really shaken. I understand owners have to keep an eye out and that is no problem. But things can easily be handled in a polite manner at least at the inquiry stage. Plus my friend is 6 months pregnant - hardly a flight risk!! I was SO excited to come here and spend $2-3K+ on a new Chanel based on the reviews I read. However, I found the gentleman working there so rude condescending that I felt horribly uncomfortable and had to leave. He made judgements and comments about how women carry their bags these days, how they are "built differently" and said they should be carrying cheap totes in addition to their Chanels. Some of us don't want to schlep 2 bags around all day and don't find it comfortable or practical, and yes, some of us are "built differently". However, no matter how we are built, some of us work hard enough to treat ourselves to splurges every once in a while. BUYER BEWARE! SERIOUSLY! And this is NOT a "fake review" as the owner appears to call all of the other negative reviews here. Here is my story: I expressed interest in a bag. Asked for a discount since it was a little bit dirty. Was told they could take $25 off, and when I said I need to think about it but will probably be back in an hour, the owner, BRIAN, said sure, but they won't hold it. Ok, fine. I went back in an hour, decided to take the bag, and suddenly, when he was writing up the bill, the new price was $20 more. I thought something seemed fishy about that, but I went with it, thinking my own memory deceived me. After I left with the bag, I started feeling as if I was duped. I called the store--very calmly--to let them know how I felt. BRIAN swore that was not the case, so I said, ok, fine, I just wanted you to be aware of my concern. The guy calls me right back to tell me to come back to the store to "look at the price tag." I said no, I am not going back to your store to look at the price tag--I know what I saw! Besides, the price tags are handwritten and could be easily replicated in a second! He started yelling at me then hung up. 20 minutes later, I get a text from this guy with a picture of the price tag, which, mind you, was NOT THE ORIGINAL PRICE TAG!!!!! I am an extremely observant person with an excellent memory, if I may, and will say with 100% certainty that was a picture of A DIFFERENT PRICE TAG!!!! So, I texted him back to tell him that. And WOULD YOU BELIEVE, this guy immediately called me SCREAMING AT ME and talking over me and refusing to let me speak and telling me nothing will make me happy and on and on and on and on. It was absolutely disgusting, not to mention unprofessional and obviously unnecessary. I was shocked, to say the least. He also had the audacity to tell me he will have his attorney contact me and will sue me if I dare write a negative review of his dishonest store and disgusting behavior. Well, go for it, buddy! I dare you! I also dare you to respond to this with an accusation that Yelp is purposely pushing forward negative reviews and filtering out positive ones. Puh-lease. read more
