Descending into the basement, I immediately noticed that it was kind of warm down there, not an ideal shopping temperature. Luckily I was able to find what I wanted to shop for pretty easily and considered the prices to be reasonable. The dressing room was not clearly marked, and it was for both men and women. The whole room had seen better days. Lastly, the line to pay was moving as slow as slugs due to minimal cashiers but thankfully some more joined to help out. It wasn't a perfect shopping experience so I'm in agreement with the current Yelp rating of 3.1 stars.

I was sent her by a real fashionista stylist friend who lives in Paris and comes here every chance she gets and also shops on their online store frequently as they ship worldwide This is a real parisian like curated real high end fashion store with exquisite taste level. The gentlemen running it know fashion inside and out and also are known as well respected fashion consultants to every major designer as they have a huge archive of treasures stored in their basement headquarters. They have rick owens, margiela, ann demeulemeester, chanel, hermes, comme des garcons with racks of it! Yohji Yamamoto and Issey Miyake and Sacai are well represented here from Japan. Nothing here is consignment. Most items are unworn and unused vintage or used from runway shows so everything is PRISTINE AS WELL. The prada dresses start at $200. Really? Unreal. I've bought maybe 5 of them. The prices on the Comme des Garcons average $290 per piece which is a steal. I love the vibe here, the music and the helpfulness. They will be truthful to you if you don't look good in something. There is no pressure here. I love browsing and they let you browse without hounding you to buy. I've been here and splurged and I've also been here and just nothing struck my fancy that day so I left empty handed. They are always polite. They've shipped items to me in London, Melbourne, and Paris because I travel a lot for my job with I.A.C. which sends me on a plane just about every week. The Chanel bags are not my thing, but they are gorgeous condition and direct from Paris. I prefer more the Bottega, Valentino or YSL or Loewe bags here which are more understated and not every girl has one which is what I like. I always get compliments on what I wear from here. Definitely go as the stock changes every week. A very unique store for New York City that's for sure as NYC is disappearing into a mall and banks and pharmacies every where. Independent stores like this need to be supported as they are disappearing all over Manhattan. It's such a shame. Anyways, off my soapbox about that. It's some of the best fashion you will find in New York for the best price. If you love shopping, fashion, cool music and the neighborhood is quite hipster, then run down to this place or take an Uber. It's worth it. read more

Ok, I'm going to give YELP one last try. I have come here 3 times. I have reviewed and I have spent over $6,000 on my three visits and I have the receipts to prove it, yet my review gets filtered. I talked to the owners here and they say it happens all the time because they refuse to accept a 3 year advertising contract. This is so not right. Why should I waste my time and money and to review a store if you are actually posting reviews without profiles, pictures, etc. that are obviously not even a real one or a real visit to the store (ask for their receipts! like Open Table does!) Here's my review anyways. I've come here 3 times and the guys are always super helpful. I stopped in over a year ago because the windows are so beautiful and always filled with beautiful Chanel bags and the mannequins dressed to the nines in really exquisite Comme des Garcons or Vintage Gucci etc. The store is really beautiful and reminds so much of a few stores in Paris but it's cheaper here. I have included two pictures to prove that I was actually inside the store. I have bought a few Ann Demeulemeester dresses (a designer I adore and wish was still designing), a Prada dress, a Chanel necklace and two Chanel bags and a Montblanc watch here. Yes, all here and yes I have the receipts on my Amex to prove it. So are you going to just filter it out? And no I didn't get a "freebie" for the review or shake it down like the horror stories I've heard from restaurants. I'm sorry to go on such a rant, but something just isn't right with this YELP company. This is not fair and this is truly a store that I admire all that hard work and curation of a beautiful collection that is always changing. All I ask that as a real PAYING CUSTOMER that my review which is honest and fair be included as well as the other so called reviews which are laughable at best or sour grapes from people who can't afford it. I've always been treated with the utmost respect here, they have specially giftwrapped items for me for free even. They couldn't be nicer gentlemen. I could go on but what's the point? I was afraid to come here as I walk by the windows every day and they are so gorgeous and decorated so beautifully. There are always like 50 Chanel mint vintage condition bags in the windows, along with beautifully styled mannequins. I finally broke down and came in and the gentlemen greeted me warmly, it was so much more casual than I expected. They let me browse for a very long time, I tried on a very chic Comme Des Garcons dress which I ended up buying, unfortunately the Chanel was out of my budget, but I am going to save up as the bags are classic iconic and so beautiful and I just have to have one. They showed me many bags even though I said I couldn't afford one today, but they said that's ok and they always get more stock all the time so eventually they would have the bag I can afford and when I can afford it! It was a really great experience, they went through the entire history of Chanel and how the bags are made and how different proportions matter when and what type of bag you are carrying. Yes these are luxury handbags and not to be stuffed full of heavy stuff, and they suggested that I use the bag like they do in Paris as a luxury bag and not like a heavy over stuffed tote. I read the review posted earlier and I dont know why she was offended at all, it's just practical information. I'm always amazed at how people take offense to suggestions that are to help in selecting a luxury handbag. They aren't for everybody. The back area is mostly french designer clothing that is beautifully curated as well as tons of Chanel jewelry that is so incredibly beautiful, Chanel doesn't do costume jewelry like this anymore so the quality is amazing and it was a real treat to see such a beautiful collection of designer vintage jewelry and couture clothing from Paris. It's a very special store in New York City, I can only compare it to Didier Ludot in paris or Rellik in London as far as being on par with this store. I will definitely return soon and not be so intimidated. read more

I'm writing this now as I just joined Yelp. So I was in New York about early May and a friend in New York recommended the deals to be had here and so I took a trip down here, as I'm not particularly a "vintage" person, however, this is like a high end Paris boutique. It's mostly unworn vintage as they get it from dealers, the owners explained everything really thoroughly as I had a lot of questions and am inexperienced in this type of shop. Everything is beautiful. When I approached from the street I saw so many beautiful Chanel and Gucci bags in the window that looked brand new but are handmade vintage older bags but all the classics. The mannequins are exquisitely dressed in designer luxury clothing, The whole store feels like a museum to fashion. I went into the back and I saw a beautiful Martin Margiela dress, I tried it on and it fit perfect. And the price was only $180. I'm sure the retail price on this is more than $800 as his clothes are very expensive. I bought a bracelet from a Paris designer (vintage) for $220 that is absolutely gorgeous and beautiful, I've gotten so many compliments on it. I wish I could've stayed longer and returned but my trip to New York was very short this time. I hope to get back to New York and come and see this shop again. I am really impressed and the guys who own it are so kind and let me browse even though they knew I wasn't going to spend a lot of money, they didn't seem to mind at all and let me browse without hovering over me or bothering me (unlike an experience I had at Bergdorf's Goodman on the same trip - very aggressive salespeople). Anyways, I am grateful to have found a place that is so cool and really nice. It suits my style perfectly. read more

Pilgrim New York is such a fantastic find New York or anywhere for that matter! And when I say find, I mean FIND! My girlfriend, Caroline who lives in Paris and is a regular here when she comes to New York told me this is a MUST stop for me (she knows I love luxury). It has a really amazing selection of fabulous vintage Comme des Garcons, Chanel bags and jewelry, and along with various designer labels, both vintage and new. I love the concept of mixing new with vintage! There are racks of Prada, Martin Margiela, Ann Demeulemeester, Sacai (all the cool hot designers and the clothing is new and unworn, on the con side, it's all one of a kind so it's curated by designer and there isn't a huge selection of sizes, pretty much 34 to 44 in sizing. The store is expertly curated by two real fashion pros who worked in fashion for over 20 years. Pilgrim has the best mint condition selection of vintage Chanel bags, jackets, jewelry and clothing I've seen anywhere, including Paris and Milan. The jackets are all the beautiful tailored tweed jackets that are highly coveted and all either unworn, mint or lightly lightly worn. And for about 30% of the price of a jacket bought at Chanel (which I can never afford anyways!). Love, love, love this store. The Loewe bags are all unused and they are so classic. One of my favorite luxury houses and where else can you find Loewe in New York except at the boutique up on Madison ? I am definitely a convert - Thanks to my friend Caroline and to the guys who run this fabulous shop. read more

First off let me say that I LOVE Pilgrim. Brian and Richard have exquisite taste and are so incredibly helpful. Also, I only shop and spend money in stores that have a high energetic frequency. Pilgrim is super high frequency from the exquisite pieces and sincere customer service (and the buddha's watching over all who enter the store). These guys truly want the right piece matched with the right person. I never feel pushed to buy anything. My experience is always generosity and sweetness from both Brian and Richard. And, they tell me the TRUTH! I once had three chanel bags laid out and nurtured me to the right purchase (which I love)... and a chanel bag is no small purchase. Ditto the gorgeous chanel pearls strung on 14k gold wire which are also exquisite that I bought not too long ago. What I also love is the way Brian and Richard know the history of the pieces (I love a good story) and how they take the time to talk to explain why something is special. Pilgrim is my go to store when I want something super special! and when I am in a pickle about what to wear. Recently, I was flumoxed about what to wear to a black tie wedding in Capetown. I consulted Brian and Richard and they immediately found me most perfect piece. Simply put if you are looking for something exquisite ~ accessories or clothing~ go to PILGRIM. I'm a big fan of this store and of the Cafe Katja. I just joined YELP as I"m not a reviewer type of person but changes on this block are so good and it's all so a feeling of an authenticity that doesn't exist in New York much anymore, the independent restaurants and specialty boutiques. This is really a great stroll neighborhood starting here with my favorite fashion boutique. I love the guys knowledge of fashion and their helpful tips. The windows are always beautifully presented. One of the owners, Richard has become a dear friend and has helped me in many tight spots on picking out exactly the right thing to wear. I am also considered a Chanelophile so that is what originally brought me into this luxurious little boutique, but what's kept me coming back is the ever changing designer stuff you won't see anywhere else. The Chanel is simply the best handbags and jewelry you will find outside of Paris and even then, I personally think it's better here. Prices are decent, but it's not for the cheap! They carry the best quality goods so you get what you pay for definitely but I feel it is worth the price. Don't be afraid to ask them for help, they really know fashion and know all the secret best tailors and dry cleaners and things that you need to know especially if you are new to NY or a tourist. Great store! I've been going for over 4 years now and I'm a regular. read more

To find this treasure of a store in NYC was amazing. Since they post their new arrivals on their Facebook, I am able to keep up with some of their inventory just by following them on there. When I was in NYC I stopped by and they were wonderful. Polite and very customer oriented. I wanted to see the Chanel bags and check out their jewelry. I am personally not much into jewelry but my mother LOVES all kinds of jewelry. I didn't think I would be in there for just over an hour ogling over all the beautiful items. Any time I had a question, or wanted to view something closer/try on (Chanel necklace... ahh!) I was helped very quickly considering the store was fairly busy. I honestly didn't think I could afford to make a purchase but I found that everything I liked was reasonably priced! So, I did. I picked up a vintage Chanel Kelly bag and a larger Chanel tote with a matching wallet for my mom for her birthday. Talk about the best gifts to give yourself or a woman you love dearly! I have already dropped a few hints to my fiancé as well. Ha-ha. If you go to NYC and love to shop, I highly advise you to make a stop there. Make it one of the first shopping stops before you run out of money to spend because when you go to shop at Pilgrim you WILL want to buy something. read more

I was so excited to get back to LA today. I just got in. And I had a blast in New York. A friend who is an art curator for a famous collector recommended that I stop in this jewel of a shop. So rare in New York anymore. I walked up, saw amazing Comme des Garcons high end clothing on the mannequins and tons of pristine Chanel bags and knew I was in the right spot! I Knew I had arrived at my nirvana. Little did I know what I was in store for here. Super helpful. The european section is more me, so I scored a Balmain Leather Jacket for $350, a Prada Wool long car coat for $290 unworn, a Marni silk dress for $220. Prices couldn't be beat. I have about 10 Chanel bags so I wasn't looking for Chanel, but then I saw the Jackets. I couldn't resist. I bought a Camel hair Chanel Jacket in perfect condition probably never worn for $1500. I'm sure the retail on this is $9000. A steal. Completely a steal. I am now home and unpacking and loving all my things I got to go out tonight in Los Angeles. I love that they have an online store now and they ship. I will definitely be checking that out. It's a bit out of the way, but a real destination store for fashion people. I've been visiting Pilgrim with my friends and family since many years. I took my wife here several times. Pilgrim is very favorite place of my wife. My wife always says -"There is no place else where you can get a pristine Prada dress for $250 that's basically unworn, or as they are known everywhere as the best vintage Chanel boutique anywhere." There are always about 50 or more Chanel Pristine condition vintage bags and the guys are super knowledgeable about Chanel and how the bags are made and it's very fascinating the differences between ""ready to wear"" and ""collection"" bags, every time I go I learn something new about how bags are made. Even if you are not into Chanel or you don't feel Chanel is your style there is so much more here. They also carry pristine Valentino, YSL, Dior, Ferragamo etc. and more labels for accessories and clothing. Lots of Japanese Avant Garde vintage high end designer wares such as Comme des Garcons, Yohji, Issey Miyake, Junya Watanabe clothing for the Japanese Clothing collectors!!!! They also play really cool music. I'm always using my iPhone shazam app to capture the unique music played here. Definitely not inexpensive but you always get a great bargain for quality top of the line designer wares read more

I'm going to try again as it's obvious some competitor is again attacking my favorite store and nothing is being done about it from YELP's perspective it is considered a review? Seriously? This store has amazing clothing, jewelry and bags. I love it. I shop here all the time. I have the American Express bills to prove it and I shop online on their website pilgrimnyc.com for ideas and they always are helpful and let me know when they get in something that they think is right for me. I love this store. I wish the competitors would stop harassing a successful small store that is out doing them in business and resorting to such juvenile so called reviews because when you leave one star it seems nothing is ever done about it. It get's left up as a "review" even when it says nothing about the store. They have racks of the most beautiful Prada, Comme des Garcons, Chanel jackets, Chanel bags, hermes, you name it. It's not cheap but it's cheaper than some of their competitors who are obviously jealous enough to resort to tacky tactics like posing as a customer. Please. Make them produce a receipt. I'll gladly send in all my bills of my American Express to YELP to prove that I really really love this store. read more

As a planner for a major fashion house I come to New York often, and I'm always on the look for trends. On the street, in the subway, in the Garment District, at the Museums and here, at Pilgrim. Always on point. Always special and unique. I've come here and am always surprised to rack the owner's brain as to what's happening and new and exciting ----- and they are experts at designer vintage, know fashion history and we have fun conversations! Pilgrim is really curated from the designer japanese designers, the european designers and the best vintage Chanel handmade bags you will see anywhere (and that goes for even in Paris!). Not cheap, but again, it's quality, not clothing made in huge factories with no care. The clothing here is special, the curation is special, it's not for everyone, but if you love fashion, even if you don't find what fits you as most items are one of a kind size, you will love it and they have an online shop as well. Lots of great jewelry from paris and elsewhere, new and vintage, they mix it all up into a really cool mix that just works. I really do just love coming here. I bought the most beautiful vintage mint condition super maxi Lambskin Handmade Chanel jumbo bag here for $4100. It looked like it had never been used. The guys were very thorough in explaining how it's made, how it's authentic, and why these bags last forever and what a good investment they are. It was really wonderful to get such an extensive lesson in Chanel as I really am not an expert on designer bags and what makes them so special. It was a really good price considering Chanel and it's perfect like new condition and the fact that the same bag that Chanel reissued now that is Machine Made is $6400. I couldn't be happier. the service was really attentive, they showed me several bags and I left very happy. I went to Chanel first, and there was a wait list for anything I wanted and the bags were mostly about $4900 to $9,000 or more due to the price increases at Chanel. This is the place if you want Chanel. They have an amazing selection and get new bags in every week, so if you don't find it on your first trip, if you ask, chances are they can get the bag you dream of from their Paris dealer if you are willing to wait a bit. read more

I read first about this store on RackedNY site about a Chanel bag sale. Unfortunately, I missed it as they only have it about every two years, but I was still happy to go and the prices were reasonable for the divine stuff they have in this shop. It's better than I've seen in Paris boutiques. I got a cute Chanel camera caviar bag that looks unused it's in perfect condition, handmade and goldplated hardware for under $2700. Which compared to new bags is a real steal. Richard was really super. He was so helpful with explaining all the details and the craftsmanship that go into making the handmade vs. the machine made bags and why it's worth it etc. and why they last forever, the craftsmanship is gorgeous. I looked at about six or seven bags before deciding that this is the bag I would get the most use out of. I also got a beautiful charm Chanel necklace that is very boho paris louche chic rich hippie from the early 90s. Really was worth the bit of trek to find the shop as I don't know the lower east side all that well. It was definitely a place I would recommend and I will be back. read more

I had to write a review of pilgrim ,both Brian and Richard where great to deal with ,my wife and myself had four different dealings with them over the last 6 month they where very knowledgable on the products they sell ,more then willing to share that knowledge and educate both myself and my wife .each time we showed up they did not pressure us in anyway ,did not Hover over us or follow us ,but did answer all our questions enjoyed spending time with both Brian and Richard . I purchased a Chanel at a estate sale and was concerned about its authenticity and went to them they had no problem going over my bag and putting my mind at ease.where not upset at the time they spent with me ,asked for no compensation for there help also told me how to take care of our new purchase and gave me someone who could help in reconditioning if needed ,told me the resale and wholesale value of my purchase and gave me a.bag to keep our new Chanel in in the summer months so it could breath .i would buy a bag from pilgrim with out any hesitation .thanks Richard and Brian for the way you run your boutique read more

Absolutely lovely experience at Pilgrim NY, I went to this shop on the recommendation of a friend in the fashion business. I've been looking for Chanel vintage bags also I love Japanese designers too. If you are looking for a little something to treat yourself there is so many options. The racks are filled with Comme des garcons, junya watanabe, issey miyake and more. When you walk up the first thing you notice is the spectacular windows with mannequins covered in Comme des Garcons and Chanel vintage jewelry along with about 50 different models and designs of mint condition Chanel bags, AND beautiful Chanel Jackets and Dresses --- and there is even more in the back! They also carry many other pristine designer bags as they only deal with professional dealers in Paris and Tokyo, so nothing is consignment and everything is authentic and pristine. Well priced, no pressure to buy but owner/staff are very helpful. Love that the products are primarily made by real artist /designer. Always worth stopping in to see the new products that the owner is constantly bringing in. read more

This boutique is incredible! I spent 15 minutes talking to the owners and learned more about Chanel that I could have ever read or heard from others! I was on the hunt for a Chanel cross body bag and I looked everywhere! My next stop after Pilgrim was Chanel in Soho! But no need... Brian (and his colleague--I didn't catch his name) are amazing at what they do. They showed me options in the store, advised me what to look for and encouraged me to check out their website, which I did as soon as I got home. I was ready to pull the trigger on a great bag when Brian alerted me to another great bag--and it is PERFECT! We went back and forth on email re: specifics and I am now the proud owner of a gorgeous vintage bag... from Paris! I couldn't be happier and the two owners could not have been nicer and more patient. And THEY KNOW THEIR STUFF! Which made me happy because I love to hear all of the details. Aside from amazing Chanel they have a store full of other curated luxury items. Truly a gem in NYC. I will be visiting Pilgrim again and again--so lucky to have found it! read more

I was in search of a vintage wedding dress and althought I didn't book an appointment I wanted to pop in and feel the vibe and or see what treasures maybe I can find. I was greeted by some girl who who didn't say hi, was just told to sanitize my hands and I told her I'd be using my own sanitizer and she just said "yea uh huh" and disappeared to the back. And she just stayed in the back, and that gave me enough time to just realize how stupid and unnecessary that whole interaction was so I just walked out.

I was reading how some well known punk bands used to shop here in the 70s and how they were one of the first to stock Doc Martens. A nice nostalgic walk down memory lane, with the LES and East Village used to be real PUNK.

I have been frequenting this store for at least a decade and have never left without at least one fabulous item of exquisite quality. The store is tucked away on beautiful E. 81st. between 1st and 2nd. Go in the late afternoon and treat yourself after your spree to a lovely dinner at the excellent Vietnamese restaurant next door LyLy.

I'll definitely return if for nothing else but to take photos. I do have a London Fog coat in brand new condition. I was thinking of selling it but my daughter said to keep it.
