She seems helpful and professional and assured me that they can take care of my insurance needs. I email her my current declarations and receive a one word reply "received". I sent another two emails that day explaining some nuances of my property and did not receive any replies. (three emails to her and only one reply consisting of one word) A week goes by with no other correspondence. April 28 I send an email asking "what's happening". She responds "I need to verify your date of Birth and Last four of your SS" to which I promptly provide. No further correspondence. May 8 I send an email asking "I am wondering what is happening with my insurance? " and she replies "please call me" I call her and she says she is having trouble with the system and I ask her to call me when she gets it squared away. I NEVER HEARD ANOTHER WORD. I emailed one last time May 14 and never received a reply! I understand Jerry is out of town, but if he cares about his business, he may want to work with his staff. We have been with American Family insurance for a few years and insure four vehicles, a house and…read morethree boats. On September 13 our boat sank at the marina and we immediately contacted American Family. We reported the sinking and then attempted to contact our local agent Tim Lopez, Gig Harbor, WA but American Family forbade him to talk to us. The boat remained underwater for over a week before a salvage company was available to raise her. American Family has refused to cover any expense during the salvage operation or to mitigate any environmental damage or help protect the vessel from further damage. Why? Because they want to collect premiums, not pay out on claims. Approximately, two weeks after losing the boat we received four like form letters that identified the claim and offered to replace our child restraint seat, totally clueless concerning insuring a yacht. We had to burden the cost of raising the boat, some $24,000 and counting. The USCG issued us a warning letter about diesel fuel in the water and the Department of Ecology is concern about the environmental consequences. In the meantime American Family has not done anything to help us and is looking for a way to deny the claim. Ironically, three weeks after losing the boat they assigned a Claims Investigator/Marine Surveyor to inspect the boat on October 6th, timely? He offered no explanation for the boat sinking but agreed they was nothing we did to cause the accident. After one month and counting we received no response from American Family. We have secured an attorney and filed a complaint with the Washington State Insurance Commission who gave them until November 6th to respond. Do not insure your boat with this company because they are incompetent when it comes to marine claims and the many issues involved with the USCG and Department of Ecology.
