Covid times, so this is a takeout review. Ordered here over the ohone, given 20 minute pickup time. Showed up when we were supposed to and got our order. The person we dealt with was A-OK and we went in our way. At home, greatly enjoyed the food. I was seeing mixed reviews and wasn't sure what to expect. Everything was delicious! Ordered the Souvlaki and Calamari Dinner Special, a combo plate, come with the green salad and a side of Dolmades. Calamari was perfectly cooked, even as takeout. Souvlaki was good as was the tzatziki. Salad had a sweeter dressing and was perfect with the meal. Thought we would have leftovers...but nope. The two of us ate it all. Had a great meal and service. Had the octopus to start, and lamb chops which were amazing. Baklava (made in house) for dessert which was perfect! Will definitely return. Is it pretty...? Maybe not, but who cares when the food is yummy! read more

We've gone here numerous times over the years and loved the souvlaki. Our most recent visit was a disappointment. Both the pork and chicken souvlaki tasted bland. The taztziki had no garlic flavour to it. And the restaurant is due for some TLC renos. read more

This place many years ago used to be pretty good. The last time I was there I realized they hit rock bottom. I'll never go again

I'll keep this brief... The beef gyros was not the juicy, curly, carved-off-a-spit shavings that I'm used to, but rather it was a stack of 8 or 9 pre-made slices, likely from frozen. If you've ever bought a cheap $4 box of frozen, pre-formed strips from a grocery store, that's what it was. But this dinner was $15. Even with rice, potatoes (overcooked) and a Greek salad, it was totally not worth it. I'm guessing the souvlaki is what they're known for, but I'll likely not visit again. read more

Update: Our recent visit wasn't too pleasant. The restaurant shows its age in many places and needs a bit of work done. The bathrooms are pretty bad with what I thought was washing up liquid in a ketchup bottle acting as hand wash. Our waitress on our last visit also seemed a bit judgemental of us and made us feel a little uncomfortable. Take out is becoming our favourite option here. Review: After having eaten and taken out at this restaurant for many years I can safely recommend Pilos and it's often a place we take friends or family visiting the area. From the outside the restaurant doesn't look very special. This isn't helped by the small shopping area it is situated in. That said once you get inside the staff are warm and friendly and although the decor isn't very modern, the dining experience and atmosphere is nice and relaxing. The take out is very fast if you call ahead first and give 20 or so minutes. I hardly ever deviate from the chicken souvlaki plate because it is so delicious and comes with excellent garlic bread. My girlfriend often takes the pork plate which is also pretty good. The dish comes with rice, potatoes, Greek salad and olives. I find it hard to go any where else in Ottawa for Greek food because I enjoy Pilos a lot. read more

The food was good, although the portions and salad were kinda sad. The chicken souvlaki was a little chewy, which I thought maybe it was undercooked(?) The waitress, who also happened to be the new owner, as she said, "the previous owner is old, and his son doesn't want to work, so I took over," wasn't very friendly at all. Prices were very high for what we got, as it wasn't a high end restaurant. It was very dated, like stepping back in the early 90's. Only reason I'm rating it 3 stars is because my boyfriend's family have a history of coming here, so maybe once upon a time it was good. Here's my edit. This restaurant is losing a star... she lied to us! I'm Greek and had never met a Greek person who was that rude. Usually we're very talkative and friendly... she was not. Just found out that she is in fact not Greek, but Lebanese. She lied, just to get business, which is very low. My favourite Greek restaurant in Ottawa. The Beef Gyro plate is my favourite main, the meat is thinly sliced and very flavourful. It comes with a large amount of rice, greek salad, and potatoes, definitely large portions. For appetizers we often get Greek sausages as well as the Pikilia appetizer platter. I haven't found a greek place that compares. read more

My parents live in the neighbourhood, and growing up Pilos was our number one 'treat meal' restaurant. The food is really good, and very reasonably priced. For about $30 you can get a delicious rib steak, salad, potatoes, rice, and free bread --garlic bread and/or pita--. So much food and it's all so good. At a high end steak house the same type meal (probably not as delicious though) would cost you $80 - 100. Don't be a fool. Go to Pilos. Honestly, Pilos is kind of my gold standard that I compare all other restaurants to, partially because, obviously, I simply know it so well, but also because it's just that good. Any restaurant that can match it for deliciousness and price is a winner. And when they don't, I think to myself I'd rather be at Pilos. Needless to say when i visit home, i go to Pilos. read more

This restaurant has good Greek food, but the overall service is just a little bit lacking. Its always busy and good prices.

Do yourself a favour... If you want a friendly face, great service and great food DONT go to Pilos!! HORRIBLE...! NOTE TO PILOS... you're NOT the only Greek restaurant in town and clearly do not understand customer service or respect! Today you lost two professionals from ever returning due to your lack of respect and restaurant decorum. Arrived @ 12:45 pm on a Friday. We were "greeted" by an unhappy, dishevelled, unshaven, sloppy-looking man and taken to a small table for 2. Many empty tables - the restaurant clearly was NOT busy and we moved ourselves to a more comfortable table for 4. IMMEDIATELY we were scolded and told we could NOT sit there as it was a table for 3 or 4 persons!!!!! Quietly and embarrassedly we returned to our table for 2. The restaurant was less than 1/2 full - so clearly NOT busy. Barely sitting - a waitress appeared asking what we wished to drink - my lunch companion and I both asked for a glass of ice water to start. Looking upset she then asked what we wished to order. Again we both stated simultaneously we JUST sat down - of note, our menus were not even opened yet! The waitress left clearly displaying her disgust!! My companion and I were shocked with disbelief at what had just occurred and decided to leave - vowing NEVER to return. GOOD LUCK PILOS... you'll need it! This is my favorite Greek restaurant. I first ate here in the late eighties and as far as the food is concern, tasted as good as ever. I had tried most of the main dishes and I like the pork souvlaki the most. The only thing that changed over the years is the garlic breads that come with the meal. They came in half-slide portions now, thinner and seemed to me not as delicious as years back. Portion is a typical Greek size and try the calamari if you have room. read more

Under new ownership Pilos has been restored to its glory days and is hands down the best Greek food in Ottawa! The chicken souvlaki is amazing. The service was very friendly and efficient. Homemade baklava. Loved it! read more

Went back to this Greek restaurant after 3 years with a friend expecting good Greek food but sorry to say the entire food was total disappointment ,I had ordered souvlaki chicken ,which came with rice,roasted potatoes ,Greek salad and tattziki sauce,chicken had no flavor was dry and tasted rubbery ,potatoes were cold and over cooked,the tattziki which I had 3 years ago was real authentic Greek receipe which was made with yogurt and garlic ,the one I had today was made with mayo and tasted horrible . The service was very slow and the serving staff very unfriendly too. I guess I have to look for a new authentic Greek restaurant in Ottawa . read more

We went there last night for dinner and I would not recommend this restaurant. The food was lacking in taste. Its all frozen food. The potatoes were overcooked. When asking for little things to enhance the flavor of the food the response was always "I will have to charge you extra". I *m surprised we were not charged for the second basket of bread.I find this very annoying. The service was lacking. Never, ever going back. read more

I went to Pilos this evening with my girlfriend and we both loved our meals. I had chicken souvlaki and she had the pork souvlaki. Amazing food and a nice waitress. Very well priced. Will go back when I can. read more

Had the gyro and I agree with previous reviews it's not the best, it's dry and probably pre-frozen. Not a fan of Greek food so I am not in a position to judge the food. This restaurant has been around for many years, so I suspect the good reviews come from the hard core "let's not try anything new" people. The decor and the servers personalities have not improved. Although for some it seems minute, but the chairs are so uncomfortable, my back was killing me, I couldn't wait to get out of there. My advice is move on people there are better restaurants out there. read more
