I feel like these guys are just getting going. They make a lot of mistakes. That mistakes like you're going to have bad dental work done, but mistakes like scheduling and having equipment that doesn't work and having the dentist bounce between rooms feeling like she's running around like a chicken with her head cut off And forgetting which side of the mouth, they did a cleaning on last time so that this time you could do your cleaning and your cavity removal on the same side that you didn't do last time. Just a lot of mistakes. The plan was great and everyone is incredibly nice, but it does feel like maybe they just, haven't yet figured out their business model and how to make it work smoothly. I miss the days where I had a dentist hygienist and a nurse doing everything together. They definitely feel rushed. The dentist pops in and out while working on your teeth. I think I've gone to too many super experience dentist to move much more slowly. So I might be a little spoiled. Everybody here is working very hard.. I think the systems they have because they have so many rooms and so many customers patients, I think the system just don't work that well yet. read more

Made an appointment here after a friend recommended it to me. He has an excellent smile so figured it was a good recommendation and now I have to fully agree. The other place I was going to was nice but that other place also didn't seem to care about their patients. Just a drive-by situation come and go experience. Pilsen Smiles is the opposite of that. Really attentive, and always checking in about appointments, the experience during the appointment, and good at rescheduling too. The location is also more convenient to me. I never saw myself writing a rave review for a dentist, but I was so happy with my experience today that I'm making a point of recommending Pilsen Smiles to everyone in the community (especially if you have dental anxiety like I do). I have trauma from dentistry in my childhood and so i don't go in as often as I should. But the moment I walked into the office I felt at ease. Everyone was sooooo friendly and nice. I had to bring my 3 year old daughter with me unexpectedly and they were really cool about it. They even gave her a special kids toothbrush at the end, which blew her mind she was so happy. I'll never see another dental hygienist ever again now that I've found Brianna! Dr. Brittany was also super nice and punctual, really sweet and informative. This is an incredible community gem and I noticed they have a really affordable annual membership option for people without insurance that includes 2 cleanings per year. This is a great dentist but they charge a $25 deposit for any appointments after 4pm during the weekdays and for Saturday appointments. If you are a new patient then they will not charge you a deposit on your first visit after 4pm or on the weekends. Unfortunately, this information was not shared with me when I established care here. Despite there not being enough openings after work. Everything I stated in my previous review applies they provide excellent service. If you have a terrible commute as I do they you may not want to establish care at this office. I hope this helps fellow yelpers. read more

Beware if you have a serious dental problem. Went last week for a serious tooth pain I was experiencing on a tooth that had a prior root canal. Was told that I should take over the counter pain medicine and wait 10 days to come back to see one of their dentist for a dental implant consulation. Luckily, I was able to see my prior dentist the next day who prescribed antibotics which diminished the pain greatly by the following day. I was then able to get an appointment and referral for an oral surgeon that same week and start the implant process. Thank GOD I advocated for myself and I'm already pain free. Instead of dealing with bad dental advice/service from Pilsen Smiles and suffering with pain until next week when my next appointment with them was scheduled. I would only recommend them for teeth cleaning if you have no other options but would not trust them for any dental work. Everyone who works here is friendly and upbeat and makes the task of seeing the dentist as enjoyable as possible. Their communication is top notch without bugging you too much as well. They have a spotless office complete with all the latest tech to make things run as smoothly as possible. They'll take your credit card information upfront and assure you that it's secure in their possession. They won't even see you unless you write something down. Then, they'll harass you for a $95 bill that insurance won't cover. Over 10 calls in a 2 month span. And even after letting them know they can charge the credit card on file, they will send your bill to collections. What's the point of making a big deal about the credit card if you're not going to charge it? Very unprofessional. read more

I didn't take care of my teeth and I was terrified of going to the dentist. I didn't want to repeat the cycle, and have taken my 13 and 6 year old to a pediatric dentist every 6 months. I love that I can now have a family dentist because Pilsen Smiles has a small play area that keeps my 6 year old entertained during longer visits. They have embraced the change and love thejt new dentist! Patient? Yep. Friendly? Yep. Now me? I love that my dentist LISTENED to me and reminded me that this was normal. Not kid friendly. I've been going here for years without an issue but decided to take my 5 year old in for her first visit. I asked questions in advance so i could let my kid know what to expect. The hygienist was adamant that they see kids her age all the time and would be mindful to ease her into the process. She described more of an intro to the office and proper toothbrush use. What happened was very different. They did a full cleaning with all of the regular adult cleaning tools and rarely gave her a heads up when they stuck something new in her mouth. My kid is laid back and rarely complains in front of strangers so I was upset to find out later that she was uncomfortable and didn't want to go back. I clearly needed to have spoken up about the changes during the visit but I also hope they make some big changes to how they approach their younger patients. read more

It's been three months since I had three routine fillings done at Pilsen Smiles, one on a tooth that had been chipped, two of them refills of old fillings. Since that time, I've had multiple bite adjustments, both at Pilsen Smiles and by another dentist, two of the fillings redone (one was, by Pilsen Smiles' Dr. Isa's own admission, "overfilled," the other, an X-ray revealed, filled with a, "deficit," or air pocket in more common parlance), a root canal on one of the teeth, and ongoing problems with my bite alignment. Much fun. It was on my second attempt at a bite adjustment at Pilsen Smiles that I decided I no longer felt like I was in capable, or compassionate, for that matter, hands. Dr. Isa, who had had a familiar, almost playful manner about her during the initial work, then gave the impression of a woman put-upon. She assured me the work was good (despite, once again, her earlier admission that the one tooth had been filled too tight), aggressively drilled the teeth, reacted as if it were a silly question when I asked if there were something I might bite on to check the work when finished, told me any residual pain would be on account of teeth grinding, offered me no aftercare suggestions apart from ibuprofen. Her work was lousy. She admitted it, and subsequent X-rays/assessment by another dentist confirmed it. Her concern was entirely absent. I've since found a dentist who is the definition of conscientious. May this serve as a reminder that good dentists are out there, but one should really be cautious, look beyond the number of stars a practice has on Yelp or Google, be wary of offices that aggressively lobby for reviews, not choose a place because it's within walking distance of one's home. NIGHTMARE PLACE FOR SERIOUS WORK. STAY AWAY. Our long-term dental issues caused by Pilsen Smiles continue now over a year later so updating this review as a warning. DON'T GET A ROOT CANAL HERE. The endo they use is barely out of school, inexperienced, NOT board-certified, made several mistakes, damaging otherwise healthy teeth for my husband and causing incredible pain. She drilled for 1.5 hrs for the root canal and gave him upwards of 20 shots because of how much pain he was in. He was in crippling pain for days afterward, couldn't eat, couldn't sleep. He only had a chipped tooth before the root canal, no infection, but when we tried to follow up about the pain, the endo just wanted to prescribe antibiotics without actually seeing him. We had to go to another dentist to get the temp filling adjusted so he could at least close his mouth and get some relief. To top it off, she took a bad mold of his tooth, so the replacement didn't fit when she put it in, and she DRILLED INTO HIS HEALTHY OPPOSITE TOOTH to make her crappy work fit. Beyond incompetent. It makes me so livid thinking about the pain and long-term damage they caused my husband, with zero remorse or care. And it was originally just a chipped tooth! There was never any pain before the root canal, but afterward the pain and lingering issues have been a nightmare. The night guard they made me was also super hard and done improperly so it was painful to wear and ended up MOVING MY UPPER FRONT TOOTH--yes, something my dentist gave me actually MADE MY STRAIGHT TEETH CROOKED. I've never had braces, never had any trouble connecting my front teeth, and now they don't connect properly. Beware. We have several long-term dental issues now which we did not have before using Pilsen Smiles. read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE! I was new to the area and needed to find a new dentist. The office was very welcoming the moment I walked in. There are coffee and drinks in the waiting room with free WiFi. Also, there are TVs in all the exam rooms and the office seems to have newer equipment for cleaning and x-rays. Throughout my whole annual cleaning, they explained what they were doing and why. I learned new things about my teeth and mouth that I never known before! They were able to make recommendations on upcoming procedures without making me feel like I was being forced into anything. As someone who has spent a lot of time at the dentist over the years, I was happy to find Pilsen Smiles when I moved to the neighborhood from New York. Dr. Ochoa is really fantastic, but there are some issues with the practice as a whole. They adopted a new policy of charging $25 for any appointments past 4pm or on Saturdays... this is really disappointing as I work in the loop and have to take time off work to get to my appointment regardless, and now I have to PAY for it. I was not told of this change and find the lack of communication really frustrating. They also don't do ANY payment plans past the completion of treatments. I have had SO much dental work done over the years and have lived all over the country and this is the first dentist I have ever had who doesn't do ANY payment plans. I also had a traumatic experience last month with severe tooth pain after work I had done - and while the office was helpful at first, they didn't tell me they would be closed for a holiday after they told me to call back on that day! As a patient who is in A LOT of pain, I was really upset. Luckily, Dr. Ochoa saw I called and followed up with me directly. She really is fantastic and I SO appreciate her being so attentive. This is going to be a long review, so I'd like to lead by telling y'all this place was so good that it's the reason I created a Yelp account. Every part of this experience was sensational. I called the office to schedule an appointment and they had me on the calendar within 2 minutes. In fact, the reason I came in was because they had reached out to me earlier today to let me know they had a time slot open up. I went to the appointment and was greeted by the same person who talked to me on the phone. All three of the people at the desk were VERY friendly and did their best to make me feel at home as much as possible. I was seen within 2 minutes of finishing my paperwork. The process for my cleaning was great. They even have a Waterpik style tool to clean your teeth! It made my teeth less sensitive and made the whole process wonderful. Dr. Ochoa and her staff are extremely knowledgeable and have a genuine stewardship to their patients' oral hygiene. I received very granular and useful feedback to help improve my oral health, all in a very friendly, unpretentious way. They helped me visualize and identify parts of my mouth that could use maintenance with a mirror. The little things mean a lot to me, and the fact they care so much says a lot about the business they're running. At the end, I even received a complementary mug filled with swag! I was able to schedule my next appt. while sitting in the chair, and the process was seamless. Every dentist I had been to before had commented that my teeth were perfect. To get highly clinical, prescriptive, informative feedback on how to keep my smile going strong is unlike any healthcare experience I've ever received. As long as I live in Chicagoland and Dr. Ochoa practices dentistry, they will have my continued business, and I encourage everyone who reads this to give her team your patronage. I was very happy to make my appointment here as my brother and sister in law highly recommended it. The communication between staff members and myself wasn't the best. My appointment was changed three times and untimely it was the time of the first original appointment. However, upon arrival staff was very welcoming and extremely friendly and personable. The dentist was even more sweet and friendly/ personable, she really cares about her patients (I've been there twice to date). Your first appointment will be 90 minutes. In these 90 minutes, they take lots of pictures of your teeth and educate you on your teeth and gums. Both the dentist and dental hygienist were amazing and are the reason I am staying here for the long run. They also have a tv in every room for you to watch as they work. Ehhh, not sold on this place. However, I should really let it be known that Monica (I think is her name) was great! Everything started off great because of her. Came here back in the Fall, I believe. Had a crown fall out from a previous place and didn't want to go back there, so I came here because it was in the neighborhood and had great reviews. Since I don't have insurance, the yearly deal they offer, the Pilsen Smiles Club, (2 check-ups, 2 regular cleanings, x-rays & 30% off services) seemed like a good deal. Except if you need a "deep clean" or any work done, it's really not. I can't get the teeth cleanings because I need a deep clean, which is interesting because I had one prior to my crown. Fine, whatever, it is what it is. You know what else I need? $9k worth of work, apparently. The office who did my root canal and crown, charged less for everything that I apparently need, and that place is NOT cheap. Maybe, just maybe, I would have made some effort to come back here, but Dr. Ochoa was kind of rude. Here's the thing, dentists, doctors...we all need to see them. They all have to be "the bad guy" and tell us stuff we don't want to hear, but the good ones have some tact. I was also judged by the receptionist for something that was absolutely not her business, as I was fighting back tears on how I'd afford everything just to take care of the issue I came in for (which had to be done last, apparently). Got in the car and cried. Boyfriend told me not to go back, find a place where I was actually welcomed and whose cash prices were more affordable than the Pilsen Smiles Club prices. I can't believe how many people I have told about this place. Honestly, the best dental practice out there. Everyone is so friendly and accommodating. You get blankets, Netflix and noise-cancelling headphones for the duration of your service, so it doesn't even feel like you're at the dentist. I like that they also help out by sending out appointment reminders if you opt in. For me that is very helpful. I also take both of my daughters 6yr old and an 8yr old here and the staff have the nicest way with my daughters. My daughters both enjoy coming to get their routine cleaning and check up here. 3 stars only because my experience has been rather inconsistent over the years. I started going to this office after years of avoiding the dentist due to some dental anxiety. I specifically chose this office for that reason and Dr. Ochoa was amazing for a patient like myself. However, she went on parental leave and the service has been pretty hit or miss since. I had to pay quite a bit out of pocket for about 7 fillings after not seeing a dentist for 5+ years. Even after all of those visits and $$$, I still felt like every time I'd go in, they were predicting another cavity or trying to upsell me on something (a mouth guard, fluoride treatments, prescription toothpaste). It's to the point where I really dread going again now. Furthermore, I had Invisalign for the last year. I feel like during that time they didn't try to sell me as much. In fact, my visit 6 months ago, I was told to I was doing great"/ "keep doing what you're doing". I was shocked. I changed absolutely nothing but went in today and I was back to being told I'm doing things wrong and they were predicting early cavities again. Not to mention, I've had really ROUGH probing and cleaning on several occasions (including today). I'm kind of at a loss because I like the location and LOVE Dr. Ochoa. But between the hard selling, the pressure to correct things (that I'm not always certain are needed), and the uncomfortable cleanings I might need to find a new dentist. read more

After just one appointment, I'd say this is the best DDS I've ever been to. Dentistry is sort of a necessary evil in my book but this one was just right. They were neither too friendly or aloof/professional--but were relaxed and treated me like family. I had lots of questions about plaque, gum disease, and about my own dental routines. Instead of brushing me off or giving rote answers they included me in a detailed and incredibly helpful discussion. Lots of interesting and helpful advice. I had planned to visit Pilsen Smiles once a year and use another dental office for my other six month cleaning, but changed my plans to keep with Pilsen due to the excellent care I received. I've been searching for months for a dentist that would be gentle with my little ones and I'm so happy that a friend recommended Pilsen Smiles. My daughters (9 and 3) have always been really uncomfortable going to the dentist and I haven't been able to find someone that is patient with them and puts them at ease. When I came to Pilsen Smiles I was first really impressed with the modern waiting area and the super friendly staff. When it came time for the 3 year old to get her teeth cleaned, Dr. Ochoa put my little one at ease and even got her to laugh and giggle. She was patient and caring, and this was the first time that my daughter didn't kick and scream when getting her teeth cleaned. Dr. Ochoa made the entire visit like a game and her energy really calmed her down. Next it was my 9 year old's turn. She's terrified of getting cavities so she was really scared that her ice cream and candy binges would catch up with her. Fortunately, Dr. Ochoa didn't find any cavities but did have a heart to heart with her about the importance of brushing and flossing. I think it really motivated her to take better care of her teeth and the past few days I haven't had to remind her to brush and floss. Here's to hoping that she keeps this up! LOL I'm scheduled for my appointment in a few weeks and am pretty confident that Dr. Ochoa will provide me with the same care and compassion that she provided my princesses.
