We had a terrific experience here. Dr King and his staff are first rate. I don't think he lost a single staff member in the 2+ years we went there, which says a lot about the atmosphere of the office he runs. The price for my daughter's braces was very fair and there were no hidden costs that popped up along the way. Plus, your appointment time is yours- we never had to wait for our appointment time- not once. There is no parking lot but they have a space reserved for customers out front. Lovely space as well. AMAZING....from the moment you walk in Jessie is so welcoming and cool. The office itself feels like home...the deco is awesome and relaxing! I finally found Dr. King after being MIA for years....he was great then and just as great now! I love the fact that he remembered me and my coworkers! What is this? Are negative reviews not allowed on Yelp all of a sudden? I have been a user of Yelp! long before I ever opened my own account, and it has been, and still is, a great resource for me in helping me find not only quality services and products, but also avoiding wasting time, effort, money etc. with bad businesses, services, etc. When I decided to open my account, I did so with the intention to help others so that they did not go through the same experiences that I did. My reviews are honest assessments on my individual experiences. This comment that tries to discredit me, by saying that I was not a patient of his, is just some typical public relations Damage Control. It also ludicrously says that I have made comments in other states, as if that is something that other yelpers do not do. I have only 4 reviews and 3 of them are in Chicago, or the Chicago-land area, and 1 is from Miami, Florida, where I was for vacation and decided to get a tattoo and had a bad experience, all four reviews were honestly to help others. I was a client of Dr. King when he worked at his Lincoln Park office, here in Chicago, located at 1209 W Diversey Pkwy. He may be at a new location now, but make no mistake about it, this is the same Dr. Anthony L. King that treated me about 9 years ago. All I did was post my experience to perhaps help others if even just one person. For someone who is also prior military service as is Dr. King, I can say that from my experience with him, Dr. King must have completely missed the part of integrity that is taught and highly valued by all military branches. It would be a real shame if my review is, or was, removed. I hope that is not the case because I will honestly be very disappointed and honestly may just stop using this site. I planned to become more active in the future and post more comments, both positive and negative, in all areas not just health or dentistry, but also stuff like restaurants, shops, you name it. I have never enjoyed going to the dentist, but Dr. King and the rest of the staff at Private Dental Services may actually be able to change that. I've been there twice now. The first time was for a cleaning/x-ray after over three years of not going to any dentist at all. I was expecting to be admonished and to have a painful/bad experience, but that wasn't the case at all. Well...there was *some* admonishment about my flossing (which was less than frequent), but that's what dentists are for right? Anyway, the exam and x-ray went really well. I had no trouble getting an appointment and ended up with a 5PM Friday appointment (really!). The receptionist called me earlier that week to confirm the appointment, which was cool. She also called me earlier in the day to say there was a cancellation and I could have my appointment as early as 4:00 if I wanted. Since I wasn't too busy at work, I moved my appointment up to 4:30. Pretty nice. Since it was raining, I took a cab to the office, which was extremely convenient due to its proximity to the Loop. After I went in, I was greeted warmly by the receptionist and she offered to hang my coat in the closet (as well as my backpack and boots since I'd come straight from work). I had to fill out some forms since it was my first visit, but aside from that I had basically no wait before seeing the hygienist. I didn't spend much time there, but the waiting area is well done, with two very comfortable chairs, a sofa, magazines, and a TV. The x-rays and exam itself went about as smoothly as possible. They are very high tech compared to some other dentists I've been to and use a computer program to display x-rays on a TV that you can see while in the chair. The x-rays took a few minutes, after which the hygienist examined my teeth one by one and did some sort of speech dictation of numbers (with lower being better) into the computer that corresponded to all my teeth. She then got down to the task of removing all the plaque that had accumulated through my years of dental negligence :) The hygienist also gave me a mirror to use to see into my mouth as she flossed my teeth and explained good technique. I thought that was pretty cool. After the cleaning, Dr. King came in to review the x-rays as well as do his own examination of my teeth. The hygienist stuck around and discussed things she had noticed, which was nice. They also made use of the TV screen when talking about the x-rays so I could follow along and see what they were talking about. Both Dr. King and the hygienist were very friendly and talkative. I ended up with no cavities (a miracle!), but I made a follow-up for a normal 6-month appointment on the spot as well as an appointment to have my four wisdom teeth removed. I went in this past Friday morning for the wisdom teeth removal and had another great experience. At least, it was about as good of an experience as one can expect when having teeth pulled out of their mouth. Again, there was no wait. I pretty much just came in, chatted with the receptionist a bit, paid my copay in advance (since I assumed I would want to get home ASAP after the procedure), and went back to get started. They started by numbing my mouth with what seemed like at least three different types of numbing stuff. They also told me what sort of feeling I should have when the procedure was going on so I could let them know if something was not right. That was good because as they got started on my right side, I could feel a bit too much. Dr. King immediately trying to extract my tooth and got out some more numbing stuff. He then poked at a couple areas in my mouth asking which one I could feel (since I shouldn't feel any of them). I told him, he injected more numbing stuff, waited a few minutes, and started again. From that point on the procedure was pain-free. I have no doubt that Dr. King used enough anesthetic on me, but I have some sort of resistance to nerve blockers and such from past experience with broken bones and the like. Dr. King and his staff gave me a printed sheet with instructions on what to do during my recovery. The sheet also had an after-hours phone number for Dr. King, which I think is great and went above and beyond what a lot of doctors offer. They also gave me a bunch of cotton pads to use while I was still bleeding and a prescription for pain killers (to take as needed) and with that I was on my way. It's now two days after the procedure and I'm doing great. I started to eat some solid food yesterday and have been in very little pain. I only used two of the extra-duty pain pills: one before the numbness from the procedure wore off and one before going to bed on Friday night. I'm about out of space for this review, but Dr. King is great. I'm glad I found him, and can't recommend PDS enough! read more

It's really unfortunate that this place didn't work out. Dr King seems like a nice guy but he is clearly money first, patients second. He's created a clever system built on fast talking and discreetly adding charges for unsolicited services to your bill. I went in for a consultation for braces, was told I needed two fillings and should get those done ASAP. Fine, I don't want my teeth to fall out so no biggie. I was told the amount I would have to pay, after insurance, would be around $150. At the end of my appointment for the fillings ,I get to the front desk and I'm told that the doctor put "special medication" on each tooth and it would be an additional $78 *per tooth*. Not only would there be an additional charge, the front desk also told me that they KNOW insurance doesn't cover the additional charge so they'll just charge me directly for it..... What? 1) You gave me some "medication" without my knowledge or permission 2) you KNOW that insurance doesn't cover it and 3) you thought it was a good idea to apply the medication without telling me or asking me to agree to the charges. Foul play. The woman at the front desk (who has clearly perfected feigning surprise at patients who are disgruntled over these surprise charges) said "OK, I can just charge you for one now and bill you for the other", as if that was doing me a favor. No, you told me one price then provided unauthorized and unsolicited services then charged me for it. Unacceptable. I'm sure there are many other patients that they've done this to that just haven't noticed or didn't have the time to argue with them about it - I'm sure they count on people just shrugging it off. I'm definitely not going back for the orthodontic work I wanted originally as I will definitely be quietly nickeled and dimed into the poor house with questionable charges along the way. Frankly, I was uneasy after the first visit when Dr King blatantly violated patient privacy by showing me a screen with dozens of patient's names, pictures of their faces and procedures they had done, including the type of materials used for their orthodontic treatment plan. I should have listened to my gut then. read more

This man is, by far, the best dentist in the entire Chicagoland area! He is expert in the most challenging and handles complications that most other dentists shun. I was sent to him because my dentist could not handle the difficulty of an infected root canal and Dr. King handled it with such ease and lack of discomfort that I couldn't believe it when he said we were done. Plus, this man is one of the most interesting people you will ever meet! He is a humanitarian and takes the most eco-spiritual-geographically fascinating vacations that you will ever hear about from anyone ever. Ask him what he does in his spare time and be prepared for a treat. His stations have high definition television which he uses to put up your xrays and educational internet sites when he wants to fill you in on what is going on. He is like a college professor with his explanations and he takes the time to make sure that you know what is going on in your mouth. He is a gemstone, as is his staff, and I do not hesitate even one nanosecond to give him every star available to me! read more

Years ago I saw Dr. King at a different location. When I moved I wasn't able to use him as my dentist. I'm back and called his office to have my teeth cleaned and meet with him about some other work that I would like to have done. I can honestly say Dr. King hasn't changed a bit. He is still caring, funny and professional. He knows what he's doing and it shows from the minute you walk through the door. The receptionist and the hygienist are both knowledgeable and friendly. It kills me to do this. Dr. King and Laura were fabulous, no complaints there and was pleasantly surprised by the experience with both of them. The staff, the environment, everything is pleasant and welcoming. My issue is the administrative side. I was told by their front office that they were in my network (Principal). Made the appointment for a cleaning and discovered I needed some crowns. Went in for part one of two for the crown and all went according to plan. I was charged my portion of the work as if in network. flash forward to the week my permanent crown was supposed to have been put in and was told my insurance company only paid $32 "for some reason". A few phone calls later I was told by my insurance company they were not in the network. Explained this to Jessie who still was confused (?) stating they may be in a different network through that provider. I paid the difference a) because I needed the crown and had been in pain and b) thought I could work this out as a mistake since there is one network. Wrong. The dentist left the network in AUGUST of last year and had been made aware I/they was out of network before I even made the appointment for the first crown. Because they were out of network I also lost a rollover benefit since I didn't meet a minimum in 2015. All in this was an $1100 mistake. I am not sure if I was lied to or if they just were that clueless. Either way if you have insurance, check, double check and triple check that they are indeed in network before you commit. read more

I love Private Dental Services! The office is very clean and bright. I really like that there is only one chair. Seeing one patient at a time really put me at ease. I knew I was getting the undivided attention from Dr. King and his staff. I have been to other dental offices that were very outdated and made you feel as if you were not the number one priority of the Dentist. This was not the case at all at Private Dental. I went to see Dr. King once 4 years ago (March 2012) for a cleaning. I had just moved to Chicago and decided to go to private dental. (I think they had a groupon deal going on back then). The dental hygienist did a good thorough job even though I think she was a bit aggressive and made my teeth really sensitive afterwards. Dr. King is this fast talking friendly guy. In my experience however he and his entire office will try do a maximum number of procedures with the goal of extracting maximum money from patients. I am sure that is how compensation is based in most dental offices but here the greed is "palpable" compared to my earlier and later experiences. After his checkup Dr King informed me of the 4 procures I absolutely NEEDED to get done: 1. I had 6 cavities 3 on each side that need to be addressed immediately, 2. 4 wisdom teeth needed removed (which was true), 3. Whitening (mine are fine and its ridiculous how fervently they want you to get this cosmetic procedure done for like $300 when you can get the same results using a whitening kit from target for $30.) 4. Dental crown for front two teeth which I chipped when I was a kid (this is also a cosmetic procedure that I dont need and still havent on advice from current dentist) He wanted me to schedule all these procedures with the secretary except he was free for the next 30 mins to fill cavities on one side, however he didnt have a few extra mins for the other side. I would have to come back for that. So I did get the fillings on one side and ended up scheduling a later visit for other procedures but decided to go see another dentist. My new dentist told me that I absolutely did not need any other fillings on the other side plus she gave me the pros and cons for the other procedures King had recommended which I ended up refusing except for the wisdom teeth extraction. I do realize that dentists could have different philosophies regarding when to intervene as far is cavities and tooth decay is concerned for instance. Maybe some dentists are just super proactive and Dr Kind is one of them. I also know some patients want super invasive and aggressive treatment for both health and cosmetic ailments so maybe dentists like King have just adapted and want to proactively offer treatments for everything. However I have enough direct link to the medical/ dental business to know that some of these guys are just profit driven and will basically just try to make money of of you by doing as many procedures as possible. read more

I've had 3 cleanings at Private Dental Services and I'm very happy with their work and professionalism. Katie, my dental hygienist, is friendly and remembers me and my concerns every time I see her. It seems like a little thing but I really appreciate that she respects that I'm particular about the ingredients (and often packaging) that I use, and she provides great suggestions in consideration of this. I never feel like any products or services are being pushed, and Katie and Dr. King explain everything thoroughly, answering all questions that I have. Also the office is very nice and modern, and I really like the new upstairs layout. My sister is a dental hygienist in the suburbs, so I easily have another choice for dental care, but I choose to go to Professional Dental Services because of their personalized care that I can trust. read more
