Very cool spot! I had never been to the Pilsen area before, so this was a fun place to experience. We had a reservation of six but last minute changed it to 8, and they were accommodating for us. The decor is really cool and hip--we sat on couches to eat which was a fun, lowkey way to dine. I ordered a Mezcal drink which was pretty good. We got a few appetizers and each ordered some tacos. Overall the food was delicious! The waitress mentioned things come out fast, but the speed of this food was the fastest I've ever seen! It definitely could have been timed a bit better, but our waitress told us it was her first day so I assumed she was still working on it. There were also multiple things they were out of, which was slightly disappointing. It was definitely a cool place to visit and I would come back for sure! read more

We were pretty impressed with Pilsen Yards! The one major con is parking is super difficult on the weekend, especially with the snow. Other than that, we had a great experience. I made a patio reservation in advance and was seated right away. The patio is heated and very warm! Didn't need to keep a jack on or anything. The menu is a little limited but there's street tacos, burger, and a few other options. Based on reviews, we ordered the nachos with mango braised beef and one of each tacos (except vegetarian). The nachos were great! Would def order again. All of the tacos were pretty tasty too. My favorites were the shrimp and pork. The fish was good too but does have a bit of that fishy taste just as a warning if you're not into that. The chicken was good but nothing to write home about. We didn't order any drinks this time around but they have a huge drink menu. Look forward to trying some soon! read more

Horrible and confrontational table service Came in for dinner and drinks with my partner and my parents for the first time. It all started great, the waitress was friendly and attentive. We also loved the small plates and cocktails. However 30 minutes into our service we had the bus boy/table service guy come pick up empty plates twice and in one instance he bumped into me while reaching over out of nowhere to grab a plate and in another instance he almost hit my partner on his face as we was retiring the plate. He looked upset or angry about something but we ignored it. When he came around the third time we asked him politely to PLEASE be careful when reaching across from behind us and as he started walking away he started arguing with us and suggested that "we take this outside" I was like ?!?!??! And we asked him to please leave, us alone and he attempted to walk back two more times and had to shout to him leave us alone. Immediately after the incident we spoke with the manager named Rico who apologized explaining that at Pilsen Yards they try to treat everyone like family and that his staff's behavior was unacceptable and would be addressed. We paid a tab of $140 plus 20% tip as everything was great until the incident. We ended up leaving hungry without even getting to order our main meal. Evening was ruined and everyone was pretty upset. This is the first time this has ever happened to us at a restaurant. Pros: Outdoor seating that is still partially enclosed and away from the street. Minimal outside noise (cars honking etc.) Great music and delicious food. There is a clear rooftop, so even on days when it is raining, you can sit outdoors and be covered. The patio is also heated, so you can still enjoy the outside area on chilly days. The staff here are amazing, they must go through a phenomenal training program. The new layout is nice; feels much more open and yet cozy. Not Yets: Limited menu, but what they do have, it's fantastic! The music can be a little too loud some evenings, but that may be just my preference. A loud enough volume to hear but not too loud that we have to yell over the music. (Don't get me wrong, I miss the club days too, just not at dinner at 7 pm) Be sure to give yourself time to find parking or do valet. Also, make reservations at least a week in advance. I like how they keep up with best practices for all safety. I would come here often when it was Monnie Burkes, and their food menu was seasonal and had a variety to choose from. My husband and I stopped by here for brunch while in the area. I made a reservation ahead of time, but you probably could easily get a table as a walk in if your group isn't too big. I love the patio area and I see why it is a popular destination on warm days. Cadillac Margarita (10/10)- Perfectly balanced and refreshing. Queso Fundido (8/10)- This was good, but could have benefited from a little bit more spices. Huevos Rancheros (9/10)- I really enjoyed this brunch dish. I've been going to Pilsen Yards since they opened their patio in the middle of the pandemic. Its been one of my favorite places for brunch, lunch & dinner for 2 years!! Additionally, I love the fact that they support local Chicago artists & local art businesses. When you enter the restaurant it's hard not to miss the amazing Roger J. Carter piece curated by Artist Replete. A portrait made out of toy soldiers. They even hosted Rogers solo show at their space in collaboration with Artist Replete years ago. I love how this place transforms into a gallery once in a great while. The service here has always been great too. The owners Paul & John who I've met are incredibly hard working business professionals, very humble too. It's not surprising this place took off & became such a unique venue. Last but not least, check out the Alderman on the weekends. It's a speak easy inside the restaurant with a different cocktail menu & much more intimate layout. Perfect for date night!! read more

I've visited this restaurant a few times now, and I have to say their drinks are delicious! The pisco punch is definitely my favorite. As for food, this is a hipster place so don't expect authentic Mexican cuisine here. That being said, the food is delicious albeit a bit overpriced, but the one thing definitely worth trying are the mussels (not pictured). The mussels are flavorful and plentiful, so I recommend ordering it for the table since it was a lot to finish between 2 people. The shrimp ceviche was disappointing. It was fine -- the shrimp was fresh but there wasn't a whole lot of flavor going on. I wished there was more spice, but it was interesting to add peanuts. I've never had peanuts in ceviche before but it was a nice texture addition. My last qualm about the ceviche is that you only have 4 fried plantains as your chips. I would recommend asking for chips on the side because the 4 plantain chips will not be enough. Overall, the ambience of this restaurant is nice and I can totally see myself bringing friends here in the future. read more

Very nice place. We went there for my friend's a bday and had a blast. Nice environment with welcoming staff and good somewhat loud music. Probably not a place if you want to have a nice intimate conversation but great for birthday parties! We started the night with a Paloma Pitcher and it was pretty good. You may want to say light ice cause it was 40% liquid and 60% ice. We got nachos and chips and salsa for appetizers. Everyone in the group loved the nachos. I very much enjoyed the chips and salsa- little salty and the salsa was not too spicy so I enjoyed it very much. Then we all got tacos. I got the fish and shrimp (no chorizo) taco and they were great. I wasn't too hungry so I got only a couple but I could generally eat 3 or even 4. Everyone else got the beef taco and kept ordering more and more so I assume that it was very very good! I recommend the place if you are looking for a good authentic Mexican food. I moved to the area just 2 months ago and had stopped here once for a drink with a friend. That first visit was lovely and our server told me to come back on neighborhood night. This happens on the first Wednesday of every month where residents and those who work in Pilsen (and two other nearby neighborhoods) get 25% off their bill. I just had to come back. Let me tell you I loved it! I came by myself, and was greeted with such a joyful welcome that really set the mood for the rest of the evening. I sat at the bar which was almost packed but the bartenders were so attentive all around. My favorite part was how friendly and playful they were to one another. I ordered the tortilla soup, since it was a bit chilly, and the chicken enchiladas. While I waited for the food, the person next to me stroke up conversation and we had a lovely time chatting. The food came, and gosh I wasn't expecting the soup to be so big but golly as it delicious. The enchiladas had a tough contender to beat and while I'm not sure they did, they were on par on flavor. MUST GO! I heard the new Pilsen Yards opened at the beginning of February, and I immediately made a reservation. I waited 3 weeks to get in and it was worth the wait! The outdoor heated patio & floor area was amazing. It was 18 degrees outside and I was fine in just a sweater on the patio. Food: small menu and portions, but the food is amazing. Had the braised beef nachos, pork and taco arabe, and asada. All were very tasty & I would recommend them all. The Mezcal margarita was delicious and I don't typically like mezcal. Decided to take an adventure day to Pilsen and it did not disappoint! Went with a group of 6 on a Saturday morning in Feb (40 and sunny). To start - we were running about 20 minutes late & the staff were *so* accommodating (thank you!!) We split nachos & chips w guac and all got our own drinks (margaritas & some house cocktails). I did try the Bloody Mary, but it was a little smokey for my taste - a switch to a spicy margarita solved all of my problem. Wish I took a picture of the seating area because it was 12/10 - glass ceilings that gave ambiance of being outdoors during Chicago winter brought me life. This place saved our evening. I'd left another (well regarded) restaurant starving and disappointed. My husband was in real peril of having a hangry date to the show we were headed to. Gentrification is a problem and when you open a Mexican Restaurant in the former home of a longstanding family establishment, it is expected that your staff should be able to correctly pronounce some of the words on the menu. Nice patio, great happy hour, and strong drinks! We came here for drinks on a sunny weekend afternoon and happened to stay through happy hour (50% off draft drinks, 3-4:30 on sat/sun) which was a nice surprise - I love places that have weekend happy hours! The patio was really nice - bright and spacious. There was a wait for a table in the patio (about 45 min) but we were able to get bar seats right away. The bartender was very efficient and friendly and we watched him giving generous pours. For food we only ordered chips and salsa to snack on but the salsa was delicious so I would definitely come back to try more food too! read more

5 star shrimp tacos!!!!!!! This is great. I was so happy to see the valet parking. Jeremy the host greeted us amazingly. He gave us a lot of information and the history of the restaurant when we asked. (I learned some super cool stuff about the remodeling process that occurred during COVID) we were able to try chicken thigh, beef barbacoa and the shrimp tacos was the best! Flavor overload-I loved the potatoes that were sprinkled into the shrimp taco. Special mention to our server Carissa she made sure we tried the heirloom carrots al pastor, the pineapple was the perfect pairing WOW!!!! The ambiance of the place was nice with a well lit covered patio. There was an outside bar and even a fire pit. The music was up tempo, very good restaurant for all groups. Yum- delicious Mexican food right outside of downtown. We had the chips and salsa+ guac, queso fundido, shrimp ceviche, sweet corn tamales, and tacos. Everything was good- I loved the queso al pastor tacos (note: these are chicken not pork). Everything was fresh and hot. My favorite was the guac- the perfect amount of spice. We had really great attentive service. When you drive by Pilsen Yards Restaurant, you think its a nice, attractive, quaint little place dotting Pilsen's landscape of many many restaurants, particularly on 18th street. That impression quickly vanishes as soon as you walk in and see a gargantuan restaurant the size of a football field. I mean this sucker is big!!!!!! On this (soon to be) stormy night we optioned for a patio table to seat us six. This choice of location was solely made as inside it was so loud it made your teeth hurt. It was slightly better outside. The menus is basically Mexican food and all except for me all ordered in that direction. I opted for their cheeseburger. I don't know why I did, but I was very happy with my choice. The others ordered tacos, enchiladas and other alternatives in that genre. We all loved what we got. But back to the noise level: Maybe I forget the disco days when every bar, restaurant or any venue with a crowd was blaring Donna Summers or Earth Wind and Fire at 6,000 decibels; and I loved it. Now,that just hurts. But I'm not going to be a cranky old slug, as I had my turn ruining my hearing. Now it's the youngin's [sic] turn. When I replied I realize that and didn't mean to to"uch it and moved away from it. I will not go back due to that incident unfortunately after spending hours and. $$$. The Pilsen neighborhood is loaded with great places to eat and this place did not disappoint. The layout is an open-concept feel. Our party of 7 was seated in their enclosed heated patio. If you don't mind yelling a little to hear one another speak then you'll love this place. The food is served fresh and hot. I had the queso al pastor. Which was 3 chicken tacos in a cheese shell. I had no clue that's how they'd come. I was shocked to see them, but happy to try something different. I took it as me being keto for a meal . Honestly, they were good and the crispness was right up my alley. The cheese added an extra layer of flavor. I also tried the last straw drink. Another hit. I could've drank a pitcher size lol. I think they'd make a great popsicle, hint hint. The service was great. For a first-day server, Robert was delightful, attentive, timely, and accommodating. All the staff worked together as a team. The price point is fair'ish all things considered. At this point life is overinflated and here we are. As far as parking goes, it's the worst in this area. Hence the 4/5. If you read my reviews then you know parking makes a difference for me especially when you're already coming from where I live *I loathe driving.* However, not bad enough to keep me from coming back We did have a bit of a mix-up with our meals. 2 orders were brought out on 1 tray so two of us were waiting for tacos when in actuality they were at the table already and we didn't know. We came in for drinks this past weekend and under the excellent guidance of my man Lance, we tried four drinks: Becky on the Beach, Western High, Grand Sidecar and The Conundrum. All of them were fantastic, and I would get all of them again. The space is intimate and the sound system is money. I don't love the seating; I wish there were 3-4 big easy chairs to lounge in while enjoying these great cocktails, but I also get that this idea would eat into like half of the 15-20 seats I see in here. Also, there are 3 bar chairs; why not 4, so that two couples could ease up to the bar to chat up Lance and his compatriots? But, that's for another day. Beautiful patio, perfect spot for a summertime happy hour. Their draft cocktails are yummy, I had the Something with Vodka and it was refreshing. The tacos also are well seasoned and flavorful, with some unique twists and some more traditional ones. Service was excellent, they easily accommodated our multiple credit cards which is always greatly appreciated, and they check on us regularly to keep the drinks coming. Be sure to make a reservation! Back in May, my husband and I were dying to get out and enjoy the sunshine and nice weather. Lucky for us, the day we chose was perfect for outdoor seating and the had a reggae DJ! They has delicious drinks. We got a pitcher of margaritas and micheladas. I got The Burger and my husband got The Chilaquiles. We both really enjoyed our food! Pilsen yards describes itself as a bar centric, Latin influenced spot and I think that's right on point. It's such a cool vibe whether you're inside, outside, at the bar etc. Service is always prompt and the food is wonderful. Don't miss out on the sweet corn tamales-they're delicious! I also love the sweet potato tacos although I do wish they had another veggie option (maybe mushroom or nopales?) I went here recently for brunch and was pleasantly surprised that they had a partially covered patio with heaters! I ordered the huevos rancheros with my eggs scrambled (I don't enjoy runny egg yolks) and this dish was sooooo delicious. I wouldn't change a thing-it had a little kick to it but not overly done. Lots of delicious flavors that worked well together. This is definitely more hip/modern than a lot of other Pilsen spots but I do think it's worth your time!! read more

The Ambiance and the service was good. Our waiter was nice and he checked on us quite often. We sat on the outside patio. There were many people there but the seating was spacious enough that we didn't feel crowded. The food on the other hand was very bland. I ordered the fish taco which looks big on the website pictures but it was small in present. I also had the breakfast burrito that was supposed to have chorizo combination with cheese and eggs, but all I could really see and taste was a burrito with lots of eggs. I mean, It's fine. Gonna go with overrated. We made a reservation for the heated patio, but they put us outside instead (and it was pretty cold!). We tried to survive it anyway, but eventually we had to ask to be moved. Pina Colada ceviche was attractive but when it came it had a lot of jalapeños chopped throughout--it was dominant and made it pretty spicy but was not listed on the menu. It was a dietary thing for us so we felt bad but had to send it back. Chips were tasty. Carrots al pastor... great branding? It's vegetarian (all roasted carrots) not pork. the "al pastor" isn't really a thing. Maybe cause the sauce shares maybe some of the adobo spice? But mostly it's a completely different thing. And don't count it on it as a meal... no protein and not filling enough. The braised beef on the nachos was gold. Tasty. The rest of the nachos---like melted shredded cheese you do at home. Shrug. Tres Leches cake was out of this world. The "heated patio" flows in and out of the outdoors and the entire space in summer is gonna be nice. But it's definitely louder and harder to hear conversation because of the sound / echo situation. Service timing was slow... we waited an odd amount of time for basics, and then had food attempted delivered to us a couple times that wasn't ours... so are they getting their table numbers scrambled? There was a small wait for a booth so we snagged seats at the bar while we waited. We ended up just ordering food and staying at the bar. The service was amazing super friendly staff and the food was out very quickly even though it was pretty crowded. The burger was great! Super moist. And the aioli was very tasty.
