I needed a filter basket for my Jandy filter pump. The store representative wasn't sure what I needed. He called for the owner Bill for his help. He ask me what type of filter pump I had and he picked up the basket I needed and he gave a brief explanation of its operation. I ask what the cost was and he picked up a tag for $39.99. Bill could sense I wasn't going to spend that much. He lectured me on how he had $100 dollars of employees and how I was an online shopper. He then turned and walked away continuing to verbalize his displeasure with my not purchasing a filter basket at that high of a price. Two of his employee's witnessed this interaction with a customer. I will never shop at this pool store again. I will contact Pinch A Penny franchise compliance and file a complaint with them. read more

WILL NOT HONOR WEBSITE PRICES! Business Ethics--NON-EXISTENT Went to pick up 3 - 2.5 gals of Chlorine shock liquid. The store would not honor the $9.99 price posted on the store website. They charged me 15% higher. I personally showed the manager the store website price on my phone. And he STILL refused to honor it. I argued with him for 10 minutes. UNBELIEVABLE! Does this manager know the term "Ethical Business Practices" They might have got me for $5 but that ordeal will cost the store $100's of dollars in my future sales. Stay away from these guys. Pool heater wasn't working. They told me rats had chewed all the wires and gave me a written estimate for a new pool heater of almost $5000. Called another company, they and they came out and replaced the circuit board. $700. Heater works fine. read more

Consider this zero stars - just couldn't rate lower than one. Kid showed up when he wanted to, then spent most of his time sitting on my back deck, talking on the phone. Barely skimmed the pool, then left. Repeatedly weekly - too stupid to realize everyone has cameras these days. And before a "manager" responds, stating I should have brought this to their attention, I have left three messages for the manager at this location - he doesn't bother to return calls. The pool had not been fitted for one when it was built but Bill was able to work with my system to figure it out and get it installed. Our pool pump stopped running and we needed to get it back up running, so we are not dealing with algae. I call another pool company and they could not get out to us for a couple day. Not that I expected to get same day service but when I called Pinch A Penny they could come the following day and were willing to stop by after their last call of the day to look at it and estimate it. Turns out our problem was minor and he had the part on his truck, so we were back up and running same day. They have great customer service. read more

I've been using Pinch a Penny for 6 weeks now and was concerned when they added salt to a chlorine pool. In addition, it appeared that the pool had not been brushed as there were still some yellow algae on my top step and walls. When I called the store to discuss this and ensure that the people servicing my pool knew what they were doing, Bill rudely told me that he was refunding my money and would no longer service my pool. According to him, Pinch a Penny made a mistake and I was blowing it out of proportion in being concerned. There was never any yelling or cussing from my end. I just wanted to ensure that salt would not be put in my pool as it is very corrosive and can ruin not only the equipment but the stone around my pool. Unfortunately, the owner was not willing to come back to my pool to make sure his mistake would not affect my pool or equipment. I am left with no choice but to get an attorney and try to get this rectified. My concern was very valid and I had every right to question them. Very Very disappointed at the level of customer service and care from this owner. read more

Came into this location today and was very let down by the customer service not only by the employee but by the manager also. Not only was I ignored when I went in but the manager also sat in the back and did not come to help me either. Considering it was only me and 1 other customer in the store, Im sure you guys can do better than that. I was not even acknowledged with a little "I'll be with you in a sec" and with me standing in line I was then pushed to the side so someone else could be assisted. Very disappointed with my experience at pinch a Penny. The associate didn't even ask for my phone number to be put in the system so what good does that even do? These guys are crooks. We used the weekly service and realized they were no supplying the chemicals like they said and were stealing ours. Our DE filter system was not working properly and they told us it could not be repaired just to find out parts were still available and can be easily fixed according to Leslie pool supply. A thousand dollars later was replaced by a lesser filtration system. Not trust worthy at all. read more

I had a pool leak, and I knew one of the five exposed pipes supplying waterfalls were broken. After further inspection I found that there was another broken waterfall pipe underground. For repairs, I asked Pinch A Penny (Magnolia) for an estimate. Allen came over and also noticed that the broken section of pipe into the rock waterfall was a flexible irrigation pipe to connect the pvc pipe into the solid rock encased pvc piping for the waterfalls. He provided a reasonable estimate the next day. Bill Brady came out for the repairs and we discovered that a special pvc pipe would have to be made in a shop because the irrigation pipe could not be removed from the rocks without chipping out the piping in the waterfall rocks. This required shop fabrication and another trip by Bill. With the proper equipment he repaired/replaced five 3/4" pvc pipes. It was tested and worked great. The total cost for the repairs was exactly the same cost as the original estimate! Bill and his team were all knowledgeable and courteous.. Bill is a stand-out in the business.
