Every day I have my morning coffee in a mug I got at Pinch some 15 or more years ago. I pop in whenever I am in Northampton, and always walk out with something unique. I've always found the staff to be friendly but not pushy, and they can provide a complete backstory on the artists. What a wonderful store filled with creative pieces of art to adorn one's home or body! Jewelry, home decor, pottery and so many other wonderful items...a fantastic place to find an unusual gift for someone that might be difficult to shop for. I walked away with a really neat tie for my dad made by a local artist. There were several other items in there that I had my eye on, but I'm in the process of downsizing at home since I really have everything that I need (and more!). Delightful staff. Five stars for the selection. Two stars for the service. I walked in and love their selection of jewelry and home goods. After browsing for twenty minutes I bought a pair of home good items. I asked about the artist and she said she didn't know who it was. I asked if there was a way to find out and she again said she didn't know. I persisted and she offered to call. It's sad. read more

I just now received a response from the owner, which is listed below. Seems a little odd to respond 10 months later... but I appreciate her reaching out and apologetic words. I felt compelled to correct a few misnomers in her response. Firstly, yes, she partially is correct. Sterling Silver is made out of copper and zinc to strengthen the material and is roughly comprised of 0.01% of traced materials. But it is not hypoallergenic. So someone who is overly hyper sensitive like my mom, can't wear it. Pure silver is roughly 99.9% silver where the other is like she says, in the 92 percentile. The website didn't list sterling nor silver but rather frond- which I'm assuming refers to a rustic, hammered element to the jewelry. So, as a whole, while the employee may not have been lying (which was never implied in the review) she was rather, I would say, uneducated about jewelry and shouldn't be making definitive conclusions without verification. After our interaction prior re: the planters, we didn't feel comfortable making a purchase we didn't feel 100% confident in. Speaking of flowers, while expensive- I never had an issue with payment. I'll have to re read my review to confirm if I wrote anything about the cost- which I do acknowledge was high for what it was. However, that was never the main concern. The point was to highlight the attitude an employee exhibited towards a customer, intruding on a private conversation, while they were obtaining assistance from their colleague. The intention of my review seems to be lost in translation. It doesn't matter to me that an employee knows the origin of earrings mined in some elusive part of the country (sarcasm) or the cost of a bushel of dried flowers. It's how we were treated. Willing paying customers, supporting a small business during the holidays, and we're given a lack luster and rude attitude. For no reason. I think that's the biggest issue that's been overlooked with elongated explanations about product. Part of apologizing is acknowledging the infraction- not pointing out knowledge deficits on the customers behalf- which were in fact were not incorrect. So, while I appreciate her reaching out two months shy of a year- it just further leaves a poor taste in my mouth. I hope this response as well as my initial review gives the owner time to evaluate the situation from a holistic standpoint and improvements are made for their future customer base- which sadly won't include me. read more

I usually always love this shop. Today I stopped in and even though there were no other customers in the store neither of the two works acknowledged me. Not a Hello or a Goodbye. I revisited Pinch recently, and everything I wrote below still stands. What an amazing store of artwork, jewelry, homewares and more. This time, I purchased a beautiful, black Printed Village scarf with the moon phases on it in metallic. I get so many compliments on it, and it always makes me think fondly of Pinch! Pinch continues to be at the very top of my list of places I must visit when I'm in the area. Well we just thought this shop was the bees knees. There are certainly a lot of stores in Northampton selling handcrafted goods, but our shopping time was limited so we thought, based on the window display, this would be the one to hit and I'm glad we did. Great place for buying gifts for others or a treat for yourself, with many one of a kind pieces. read more

Really nice stuff, enjoyed walking around here a lot. They have an eclectic mix of a lot of decor items, most of which seem fairly over priced and unnecessary when you come down to it. We were interested in getting a letter for the wall in our house. We have a couple of other ones from other places that we have picked up along the way. When i saw the price of $24 for something i could see paying 20% of that price that was really the end for me in deciding to get anything. Still if you have an artsy personality on your shopping list and money is less of an issue then this is a great stop for you, but by no means a lower end college area store to be sure. read more

First of all the staff here (including the owner) are the sweetest, most helpful that I have encountered in a long time. Always super friendly and attentive, smiling... so hard to come by these days. In any event, a great shop. They have some amazing men's watches, I already bought 2 and plan on returning to get another. I saw an interesting tie that I may grab as well. Yup, a lot of stuff in here is pricey. This is probably the top dollar range for any type of store in the Valley. I love the aesthetic. I never buy ceramics, but they have an outstanding and unusual collection. I have bought 2 purses (on sale! yes, they have sales), earrings, and assorted small gifts over the last few years. Most of what is in here is not anything I need, so it's a splurge to spoil myself when I've saved up enough in my quarter jar. My family has also given me GCs for birthdays and holidays. There are small gifts for less money than anyone is saying in the reviews--fun and pretty postcards, little rings, bracelets, bar soap that is about 2-3 dollars more than fancy soap at TJ Maxx, but this stuff is special. And seriously, even TJ Maxx gift soaps are now up at 4-5 dollars a bar. I bought a very good wall clock here after years of trouble with cheaper crap. Not too expensive when quality is built in. The clock is pretty and modern and reliable. Stop in, see what you think. Maybe not your cup of tea or too expensive, but I love this little place. read more

My husband and I stopped by this great little shop on our way from New York to Vermont. There is so much amazing art here from jewelery to handbags and ceramics. Everything there is handmade by local artists and the woman working there knew about all of them. You're not going to find a "Made in India" sticker anywhere. It was nice to know that whatever I bought there I would be supporting local artists and getting something beautiful. The pieces there are the kind of thing that people are always asking you where you got it from because they are so beautiful and original. You could spend a lot of money and take home some really fantastic pieces or you can just spend a little and be just as happy (almost). I got a beautiful necklace this time and will definitely be going back. read more

I came in here both looking for a gift for someone and because even after living in Northampton for 3 years I hadn't been in most of the stores downtown. I was reminded why by the price tags, but this store is nonetheless very cute and full of things I'd love to have in my home or give someone. If you, like me, are looking for a gift, don't expect to give something substantial for any less than $60. A very small vase on the lower end price-wise seems to cost about that at Pinch. I'm not sure if the, let's say, "hands-off" service was because that's just how they do it at Pinch, like one reviewer said, or if it's because the person working didn't want to bother with someone she didn't think would buy anything. She did seem slightly annoyed at having to engage with me and get down the hanging vase I was buying, perhaps because I had to interrupt her conversation with a friend. read more
