A very impressive cheese selection, they also sell fish, meat, hot sauces and candy. Oh, and they make their own fudge. On the rare visit to North Michigan as a kid, we would stop and satisfy my dad's meat and cheese fix. While much has changed, much has stayed the same. We have finally made our way to all four cheese shops in the Pinconning area, with this shop being the last on our map. Last but not least, as they say. We had high expectations and we're not disappointed. The loaves resemble calzones. They are loaded with deliciousness, like game chunks of ham and melted cheese and the supreme comes with tomato sauce, pepperoni, bell peppers and mushrooms. and of course, lots of cheese. It is definitely worth a stop here just for the warm bread loaves. We also liked the deli counter where you can order slices of your favorite cheeses and the small grocery area with a sampling of goodies to pair with cheese selections. It is just enough without being overdone. There are two tables outside to sit and enjoy your snacks though the view faces the parking lot and road. Has anyone ever ODd on cheese? If they did, they probably visited the Pinconning Cheese store. This store has everything for the cheese aficionado. This store was pretty interesting, lots of options in chunk cheeses, curds, dips/spreads, and gourmet varieties, plus wine and beer, fudge, crackers, breads, salty and sweet snacks, jellies, candy, and gifts. I purchased some pimento cheese spreads, specialty bread and snacks in a recent vacation for the road. I couldn't figure how we've never made a trip to the Pinconning Cheese store til now. I like their cheese dips and have bought them at otter retailers before, but this trip was a first for our family. I was pretty impressed with the place. read more

I have always been a fan of cheese and can remember asking to go to Pinconning as a kid on a family vacation. So on a recent vacation of course I wanted to stop again to get some cheese. I wanted to also grab lunch and head to a local park. I was advised by other reviews to purchase the pizza loaf which I did indeed as well as ham and cheese for myself. Did I want a lot more cheese, of course but traveling with a cooler limited my options as I'm a few hrs away. There is so much lovely cheese products here for those who aren't limited in storing or have a longer stay to consume the product. There's a wall of hot sauces! Complete with ghost peppers. Delicious jerky. Cheese. Their pizza sandwiches are really good...Every time I've been here, the workers have been really helpful and sweet. What a difference, the staff were warm and inviting, asked if we had any questions, when we mentioned we were interested in local pickles, they showed us their products and also recommended another shop further north. We stop in Pinconning every time we go up North because we LOVE Pinconning cheese. This was the first time we stopped here at the Pinconning Cheese Store. We are NOT happy. First, the lady at the counter told us that all the breads in front of us on the counter were baked fresh that morning. In reality, that bread was so old and dry, and it tasted terrible, and it now has mold on it the next day. That was a flat out LIE that it was baked that morning. Also, I am not quite sure what kind of cheese I bought there, but it in no way tasted like Pinconning cheese and I have been eating the same kind of cheese for 50 years so I know my cheese. We had to go down the street to our usual cheese shop and get it there. Needless to say, we will never go back to a place that lies to sell goods. Sad really.... :( read more

Pinconning is over rated as a cheese place. I went to this shop and the ladies are rude and act like they are doing you a favor by getting you thier over priced products. The cheese I brought was moldy the next day, the sausage did not live up to its billing. They offered no samples. This was our first trip to Pinconning, but it won't be our last! I can't compare to other stores in the area, obviously, but I thought the staff was very friendly and helpful. We bought several types, and were amazed at the creaminess of the 10-year old extra sharp! Now I am spoiled and will hate any other cheese I buy in the grocery store! It's not cheap, $17/lb, but you won't need to eat a ton of it to get your cheese fix! Can't wait to try all the others we bought! And what we bought was vacuum sealed and will keep in the fridge forever until it's opened. Thought about giving some as gifts but decided to keep it all to ourselves! Maybe next time...! read more

I love this cheese shop! Raised in Beaverton, MI, but a southern native, this is my go-to place for getting smoked herring, pickled Bologna and squeeky Pinconning cheese when I miss home! No one in Texas has ever heard of pickled Bologna, so it was my pleasure to find that they had a website where I can buy online. Now my fiancée can know the pleasure of club crackers with big hunks of Kogels Bologna! I have ordered from them twice online and visited the brick and mortar store once and the experience has been great all three times. The price for shipping can be high, so I doubled my order this time, so I don't run out as quick. read more

16-year-old yellow Cheddar. Six-teen! Sure, you can visit the mouse across the street, but what I am telling you is 1-6: 16-year-old Cheddar! Crumbly, tangy but smoothed out by the mellow aging. The staff is friendly, and they were happy to give me a sample. I tried the 10-year first, and it was very good, but contrasted with the 16: no contest. You're probably going to have to wait in line to check out. The sell a lot of pizzas too. It is worth the wait, and it's only about 5 miles from I-75. Get off at Exit 181 (Pinconning Rd.) and head east (past the Cheesehouse) to the real traffic light (ignore the blinky ones), and go left on Mable/US 13. It's not too far down on the left.
