The Pine Cone is a very cute breakfast, lunch and ice cream cafe in a small town in Marcell Minnesota. About 220 miles north of Minneapolis. They serve quite a few of what I call a fisherman's breakfast. Just filling and delicious. All the servers and owners enjoy talking to the locals and the fishermen that come in. Very efficient and polite servers. A really nice small town atmosphere. I was impressed at how clean and tidy everything was and so many cute antiques on the walls and shelf. Oh and the ice cream is just wow! You won't be able to finish it! Lol Weather you're just passing through or stopping over to do a little fishing you just have to give the Pine Cone a try. Found this breakfast and lunch place in Marcell. Only stopped in for breakfast a couple mornings but it was delicious both times. The coffee was good and the bacon and sausage with the eggs were super and the pancakes light and fluffy. I would recommend this to anyone staying or passing through. Only wish they were open for dinner too. read more

We love coming to the Pine Cone for breakfast. My daughter absolutely loves that they have a little book collection and loves to check out all the pine cone decor. Staff is always super friendly and accommodating with kids. Breakfast is always great and comes out quickly. The place is always so clean and we love all the old time news articles and pictures hanging on the walls. Owners have done a great job with decorating and keeping the place in perfect condition! read more

Wow a great breakfast place in this little town next to Turtle Lake. In a darling rustic cabin like building they share with a real estate company. This place has great breakfast. Be it be eggs, pancakes or pastries. They also have a bakery. I took home great danishes and yummy peach pie. There is ice cream and they have a coffee machine that make specialty coffees. The coffee isn't like a Starbucks so skip it if you are picky. Ample parking naturally. read more

Excellent breakfast! None better! Immaculate large restaurant with a delightful staff. The walls are filled with memorabilia from the 50s and 60s. Spotless restaurant (and restroom) with a friendly team offering good value. I had the 1/2 sandwich (corned beef on great marble rye) and chili (see photo). Both were tasty and fresh. The Pine Cone is obviously a favorite of locals and for good reason...which isn't always the case. I looked at, but didn't go for the good looking pastries but in hindsight regretted not getting one "to go" for a late night snack in the cabin. The memorabilia around the restaurant is fun especially for visitors and the little reading area, complete with fireplace, reflects the touch of ownership who is there every day and obviously interested in making every customer comfortable (see a couple more pics). There are other options in this relatively remote area but get out of the cabin during your trip and visit the Pine Cone! read more

Super nice people, very clean. I ordered a chicken panini. What I got was simply a grilled sandwich; description said mayo, mine had Miracle Whip (I wouldn't have chosen this). Fries crispy and nice potato flavor. I see they have scoop ice cream which looks good. The "gourmet" coffee I've seen people talk about is cappuccino machine like you see in the gas station. Stopped at the Pine Cone for breakfast while staying nearby, visiting family. A very cozy and welcoming little place. The waitstaff (wish we would have caught her name!) was so friendly and attentive. The food was a exactly what we wanted - home cooked, hot, and fast! The coffee was plentiful and had good flavor. Also, good kids menu. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean and orderly. Plus they had cute vintage decorations throughout. Outdoor seating, wish the weather had been warmer! not a lot of places to pick from in the area I have to admit, but this was a nice surprise. We spend a lot of time in the area as my great grand fathers farm is near and my parent summer there. There have been lots of little places that go in and out of business and have sub par food, service and quality. The establishment seems to be very new and was very clean and the service was very quick. The food is very good and everyone had something different (5 of us) and all very much enjoyed it. I have family in town, so I always have to stop here for a bite. The food is excellent, and the owners and staff are always pleasant. I'd recommend their pies, and their breakfast menu is particularly good. There's WiFi access as well. It can be hard to find a restaurant worth checking out in this part of the state...but the Pine Cone is fantastic! read more

In Northern MN it is sometimes hard to find a place to eat at all let alone one that treats you well, serves good food and appreciates your business. The Pine Cone Soup and Sandwich Cafe is a place like that. Whenever I am up at my cabin I eat breakfast and sometimes lunch at Pine Cone. I'm not sure it's quite a four star but it's better than a three. It's clean. The service was great. Price is almost too cheap. The problem was the food had no flavor. We had a chicken panini sandwich and a breakfast burrito. Decent portion for the money but the panini was a grilled cheese type of deal. Not much meat and no taste. Not bad but not good. The breakfast burrito looked way better than it was. Again not bad but not good. These types of dishes are easy to do correctly. If you are hungry it works. We would go again and use the salt shaker....again read more

I don't expect fine food from this type of place... Just good affordable food. Waitress was nice, and the place was clean and had a friendly feel. I had the Philly sandwich and chicken noodle soup. The Philly sandwich was actually just a broken up hamburger mixed with a sprinkle of bell pepper. The soup was out of a can (really...I'm positive), and for dessert...a piece of coconut cream pie. The pie was OK...but I'm betting Sara Lee or something of the like. Go there to fill up when you don't want to cook yourself, or if you like processed foods. It is what it is. read more

My wife and I have been to the Pinecone many times since its opening several years ago and it is a fav in the north woods for breakfast and lunch. The place is always spotless--very clean. We like the Sunrise Special, Lakeside Scrambler, and eggs any way we happen to want--always as ordered and hot. The Italian Melt with seasoned fries is delightful and the burgers are so much better than a $5+ fast food place, I'd drive a few miles to get one--my way, fresh and with crispy lettuce.
