**1 Star for the Business, 3 Stars for the Experience** Our recent visit to Pine Creek Outfitters was disappointing, largely due to the unprofessional and downright rude service. We called ahead to get information, but the details provided over the phone were completely inaccurate when we arrived, which was frustrating and inconvenient. The woman who checked us in was immediately rude and gave us no useful guidance whatsoever. As beginners, we expected at least some basic tips on how to navigate the waters but were wholly left to figure it out ourselves. While the calm parts of the water were enjoyable, the extremely low water levels during about 20% of the trip made it stressful--especially with absolutely no signage or context provided. After reading other reviews, it's clear that the poor service we experienced is a common issue at this business. read more

The authorities on outdoor adventure in the area! Kind, chill, knowledgeable. We used them for a car shuttle so we could do the entire Pine Creek Rail Trail on bike in a day. Dropped our car at the northern most trail head in the AM & was able to pick up our vehicle after riding the entire trail several hours laters in the PM. They were super professional without being all business. Communication every step of the process. Their shop is super cool too! Forget anyway home that you'll need camping/adventuring? They gotcha covered! These guys are so Pro they have authored guides and helped create maps of some of the best hiking trails. After using them, was recommending them to serious enthusiasts all weekend who already knew they were legit! I plan on using them soon as a shuttle for the West Rim Trail & maybe someday we'll hit the gorge in one of their rafts! Until then, highly recommended! read more

John and his crew are absolutely exceptional!!! They truly deserve 10 stars instead of only 5. I decided to make a last minute trip to the PA Grand Canyon before leaving the area. PCO was recommended to me through several Facebook posts, so I decided to check them out. So happy I did. They are perfect when planning to visit to PAGC for a solo trip or even a family outing. Pine Creek Outfitters - Beginning of West Rim Trail - Bike Rentals Near Me - Wellsboro, Pennsylvania

This review is about the shuttle service my group of 6 contracted for on Saturday, July 13, 2019. We were starting from the Wellsboro trail head of the Pine Creek Trail and requested the shuttle pick us up at Slate Run at 4:30 p.m. First....I have nothing at all bad to say against the driver. He pulled into the Slate Run access point exactly as we were coming in off the trail, and was very efficient in getting our personal bikes loaded in a safe and secure manner. In addition, he was very polite and gregarious, and overall you could tell he enjoyed what he did, and enjoyed meeting us. He let us know that on the ride back, he was scheduled to pick up another four bike riders at the Blackwell access point, and then we were on our way. However, he had not been told that we had started from the Wellsboro trailhead, so explained he would need to drop off the others at the outfitters before delivering us to our cars. But overall, he was polite in his explanation and we accepted that some mistakes happen. However, once we got to Blackwell there were not only the original 4 other passengers, but there were six others as well that were expecting a ride back to the outfitters. The shuttle van was a 12-person maximum occupancy, so obviously we had a problem. When the driver called back to the outfitters and talked to the owner John, John told the driver that there were no other Vans available, or drivers, and that he would need to stuff all 16 passengers, the bikes, and himself onto the van and the trailer. I cannot fathom how the owner felt this was a positive solution to the issue. But not having any choice all of us customers needed to squeeze in and make do. But because of that as well, our stay at Blackwell changed from a 10-minute stop to easily 30 minutes of waiting in the van to proceed. As we then proceeded to the outfitters in an overloaded van which at times seemed to struggle up the hills, we eventually arrived and everyone piled out. After approaching the owner John to explain our group's displeasure, he wrote it off as they had gotten very busy that day and so they had not controlled the situation properly. When I pressed him some more, he explained that this was a normal and expected thing. I asked him whether it was safe, in his eyes, to load that many customers into the vehicle, but he just explained that that's what happened when that situation arose and that's just what he did as an outfitter. Needless to say, as we had already scheduled a shuttle for kayaking the next day, we immediately cancelled that reservation. We then re-boarded a different shuttle van with our original driver for the trip to our starting trailhead, and at least made it there safely, but probably after a 2 to 2 1/2 hour total shuttle time. I believe that Pine Creek Outfitters is one of the only games in town, or maybe even the only game, but I would highly suggest doing your own shuttles if you are ever in the situation. UPDATE - After exchanging some emails with our trip leader, and again hearing our displeasure regarding our shuttle experience and some of the staff, the owner John did apologize for the handling of the shuttle, refunded all of my group the shuttle fee, and promised that this type of event will not happen in the future. read more

We were given 5 seconds of instruction for tubing and told "there may be one or two spots where you may have to walk your tube over the shallow water". Well, one or two spots turned into 50% of our trip. We had to carry the tubes as much as ride. Trying to walk on slime covered rocks is dangerous. At one point we actually left the creek to walk in the grass beside the creek because it was easier than trying to walk in the super shallow water and slippery rocks. When we finished our walk (I wouldn't call it a float), I told the woman at the counter that it was a completely awful experience. She asked rudely"did you follow the course?" I said we had to walk at least 50% of the way she said "no one else has complained" and shrugged me off. They should never, ever allow people to rent tubes in these conditions. We, mistakenly, assumed they monitored conditions but found out they were more concerned about making sure they made some $$. Awful, awful experience topped off by awful, awful customer service. read more

Excellent experience doing a bike/shuttle with Pine Creek. We've done it twice! Both times I was impressed with the staff - responsive, helpful and engaging throughout. We really appreciated their help picking out the appropriate bike for my wife, and helping us with super clear navigation. They also annotated a paper map with side hikes, noting which were particularly beautiful or particularly difficult/long! The shuttle was great too, which I mention only because some outfitter's shuttle vehicles (or drivers) are scary; Pine Creek picked us up on time, asked great questions and pointed out interesting things on the ride back to their office. They even gave us some advice on what else to do in the area! I've used numerous outfitters over the years, and Pine Creek is the best. read more

What type of Hinky Dinky Place is this? I visited here with a few friends and we definitely should not have booked us. Even though it rained the night before the water was extremely low and we ended up walking the entire creek. It was definitely a horrible experience. I would have understood more if someone, if ANYONE had mentioned it would have been like this but we were lied to from the very beginning. Bathrooms are disgusting, staff is very unfriendly, and experience really sucked do not waste your time!!!! read more

The staff at Pine Creek was extraordinarily helpful - not only did they run the shuttle service we requested for our kayak trip and rent canoes to a few boatless friends, they also pointed us in the right direction for a camp site for the night before our trip and a brewery and restaurant to visit afterward. They also, unbeknownst to us, had staff members waiting with kayaks and throw bags at the trickiest rapid to help anyone who capsized. Be warned - there is no cell phone service in the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon at the creek, so you need to be very clear on where and when you plan to meet the shuttle. Also, print out directions to the place where you're meeting. GPS won't work. read more

Stopped in to book a tube trip. We were told that the conditions were not optimal and should consider another day for our outing. They explained that we could go on the trip, but would not be floating the entire trip and would have to carry the tube a bit due to the current water levels. They were very knowledgeable about the area and were more than happy to pass that knowledge to us! We talked about options for other trips and will use them when we are in the area again! read more

We had booked the 10 AM shuttle at Rattlesnake Rock. As I am driving from Morris to Rattlesnake Rock, I find out that 414 is completely closed. They apparently felt that I needed no warning of this, even though this is the route they have used for the shuttle when I used them in the past. I drove back to Morris and finally found an area where I could get cell service. By the time I got ahold of them, it was now past 10. They said I have to take a detour, which is about a half hour of driving on remote dirt roads (once again, they felt there was no need to warn us about this ahead of time. Isn't this the sort of thing you expect when you use a Guide Service?), but since it is already after 10, I am out of luck. I then got a lecture from her about if I had been on time, I could have caught the shuttle, so it's all my fault (somehow I am supposed to know a road out in the middle of nowhere has been closed for construction!). They made no offer to give me a refund or credit or anything, even after I emailed them. read more

Guided Mountain Bike Tour with John. My 14 year old son and I were looking to go mountain biking through the areas of the Grand Canyons of PA. John, the owner of Pike Creek Outfitters was an excellent guide! We loaded our bikes onto one of their vans and was driven to the top of one of the mountains. From their John guided us on a fun and thrilling mountain biking trip. The trail was packed with adventure- lots of rocks, mud and downhill thrills. John took the time to make a few stops and talk about the swamps, canyons and rock formations. It was a fun 2 hours. I would definitely rate the trail as difficult. One thing we could have used was bug spray. We got bitten by a lot of mosquito's. Overall it was an adventure of a lifetime in a beautiful area! My boyfriend and I decided to go for a bike ride from their main location to Blackwell down the Pine Creek Rail Trail. To be honest, we got their rather late. It was about 230 when we started the bike ride and had to make it the 17 miles to the pick up point by 500pm. Let me just say, 17 miles isnt that bad (and we made it with plenty of time to spair); however, if you want to enjoy nature... maybe leave yourself a bit more time. As it was the owner was SUPER skeptical about us making it in time and warned us heavily. Thank goodness we made it otherwise I'd feel really silly about insisting it was fine. The bicycles are in good condition. The gears all work, the chain is well maintained, wheels appropriately inflated and they look pretty new. The owner included helmets and a bike repair kit. I will say that these bikes are mountain bikes and built for the terrain. However, pro-tip... maybe bring a bike seat cover. The bike seats are rather ...ummm traditional. That is to say that the seat was like a large cell phone with curves, and about that comfortable. If you look around the gift shop, seat covers are for sale towards the back wall (yes... I defs bought some souvenirs). Overall, the trip had wonderful views and it was a great cardio experience. I can't wait to go back in the fall! read more

I called to book some rafts for my family and Mark INSISTED that I book online. Fine. I booked online and paid with a credit card. By the way, the rentals are confusing. The website states that each raft holds six people but they charge you per seat. So if you charge per person, why do you bother to state in the payment section how many seats a raft holds? So another member of a party that was going separately called and changed my reservation over the phone and Outfitters charged my credit card and the person calling wasn't an authorized user! But of course they didn't make HIM make a reservation online. I didn't even know he did that until I got an email that my booking had been "modified". So I called Outfitters to find out what had been changed and Mark got snotty with ME and said that the other person and I needed to "get it together" because they were "super busy and didn't have time to answer the call. read more

My friends, family, and I have gone to Pine Creek every year for the past 7 years. Our first year going we were very novice at kayaking and Pine Creek Outfitters lied to my entire party about the length of our trip and the water level. Thanks to the good graces of God, we were able to save my fathers life after we encountered extreme rapids that we were not prepared for and did not have the proper kayaks for. Despite asking Pine Creek Outfitters if we were okay with what we had, they decided it would be funnier to see someone get hurt or killed. We even explained that we were novice's and didn't have much experience on the water. Yet they still had nothing to say. When we were rescued in the canyon by the DCNR, they were actually very concerned that the outfitters didn't even try to recommend that we not go out at that level. I will never trust PCO EVER again and I highly recommend not using them for any services whatsoever. read more

We rented 4 kayaks on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. Upon arrival, we were told the price was $5 higher (per kayak) than we had been quoted when reserving them. They said this was their weekend price. Since we actually reserved them for a weekend day, don't you think that's the price they should have quoted? The checkin process was disorganized and chaotic, but we finally got our kayaks and got launched for our 17 mile trip through the gorge to Blackwell. After about 20 minutes, I realized I was sitting in water about 2" deep. We hadn't yet gone through any rapids so it was clear that the kayak had a leak. The four of us pulled up and dumped the water. This was the first of many stops to do this and each time it required two of us to lift and turn the water-filled kayak. Riding low in the water made all the rapids difficult and caused even more water to splash into the kayak. My gracious nephew-in-law traded kayaks with me about 2/3 of the way down and took over the stopping and dumping, which was now required at 15 minute intervals. We finally arrived in Blackwell and turned the kayaks over to a shuttle driver. When we returned to the Outfitters to retrieve our car, the manager was incredibly uncaring and unapologetic. He deducted one kayak from the total bill but seemed uninterested in identifying the leaky kayak. This means you could get it on your next trip. read more
