We stopped by Richard's to grab a caffeinated beverage before starting our day exploring the island. I was impressed by this quaint little store that offered everything you need and a little more! I saw all of the staples and everything was fresh and clean looking. The prices were as expected for a small general store located in a remote area. If you shop the deals/sales it's pretty comparable to the mainland. Definitely stop by for your essentials when visiting lanai!

They've been in operation since 1946 and are located on Dole Square where many of the island's businesses are concentrated. They offer a variety of fresh produce, meat, seafood, and pantry items. They also have a selection of prepared foods, gourmet wine, a poke counter and sundries. I came for the snacks (of course) and settled on their spam musubi. I don't know what they put in their musubi, but that thing was DELICIOUS! The rice is seasoned along with the spam and both together are a homerun. My only regret was only getting one :( All in all, this is a good place to stop and stock up on snacks, drinks, and other items.

This is the 4th time I've experienced this with purchases at this Safeway, once with dog treats, twice with pasta and now chips. I had to throw out all my pantry and bug spray because of these bugs (chemists beetles), as they lay eggs and are hard to get rid of and they spread!! Pasta is the worst! I won't buy anything from Safeway not that isn't frozen or in a see through packet so I can check for beetles. Ugh. They need to fumigate the store! Just like I'm getting my home sprayed :(

The first thing I saw when we walked in was the display of colorful shopping bags! And they were only $1 each! I grabbed a bunch in different fruit styles possibly to give as gifts or use as gift bags. I like perusing the baking department for fresh banana breads, cookies, etc. The hubby runs for the seafood department for fresh poke. There is always a line for poke customers! Oh, and don't forget a spam musubi waiting on the warming trays. Everything is higher priced than your mainland grocery stores. However, you do have to eat. Just buy what you need and only what you'll eat. Too many times, people will overbuy and when it's time to leave, have an abundance of leftovers. Happy vacation!

I wish we had thought to visit Island Grocery sooner, as most of our grocery shopping was done at either Foodland or Times Market. I think more locals shop here than visitors. The store is bright and big. Great selection of fresh produce and local foods to choose from. There are even a few food trucks situated outside the store. Next visit, I'll make sure to shop here first!

Basically it's the neighborhood general store that serves the Ho'olehua community, and if I'm correct, I believe it's the only store in the area. I guess the folks here probably appreciate this store, otherwise you would have to drive to Kaunakakai to do your shopping. The Kualapuu Market has a little bit of everything here, fresh meats, some produce items, and of course their dry goods. For entertainment, they also had a video shoppe which appeared to be dvd's which you can probably rent. I popped into this general store to take a little look around, as well as to pick up some drinks while we were driving around town. I love visiting local businesses in remote areas........... Need something and don't wanna drive all the way to Kaunakakai? There's another store in the Ho'olehua area. Check 'em out gang! No can go wrong!
