This place came up and we called hesitatingly to see if they have vacancy on a saturday night and they did. The motel is ran by a sweet couple from their porch. They man (whose name i forgot) waited for us to check in around 11:30. Yes, the furniture was outdated and there was a weird stuffy smell in the room, but the service was pleasant, free basic bagel & coffee breakfast and cheap and easy last minute booking 15 miles from Acadia. Only down side the wireless is limited and only works from the porch of the office.

I noticed some other reviewers pointed out how terrible the hotel condition was -- the room itself didn't have a problem, it was clean and very cozy. Their main office looked like an antique shop, chaotic but in an organized fashion! If some reviewers wanted to have a crazy clean hotel room with modern decors in this area, they would have to pay at least double the rate this hotel offered. Nothing is perfect, and so this hotel has just the right balance between comfort and affordability. The owners are also trying their best to make improvements on the room every season. David made us very welcome when we arrived and gave us the orientation talk on the island, giving us a couple of local newspapers and marking down worthwhile sights on the maps before showing us to our 'cottage'. I'd actually describe the cottage as more of a beach hut (we had one of the smaller ones), but it had everything in it and was only a few yards from the water's edge with great views over Salisbury Cove. There was a porch with chairs and table where you could sit and watch the sunset. Very pleasant. Inside, the cottage was scrupulously clean, there is a small kitchen area with stove and coffee maker etc. if you wanted to eat in. It could have done with an electric kettle to make tea with, although you could use the coffee maker to boil water I guess. There's a small heater in the wall that we used a few times as we had a couple of rainy days during our stay. Best of all was the shower - great water pressure and piping hot. A great start to the morning. Followed by a cup of complementary coffee from reception, we were all set to go and explore. So thanks to David and Jayne - we really enjoyed our few days here and would gladly return in future.

When I brought this to Jayne's attention, she immediately became irate, saying she was "sick of this shit" , evidently this had happened throughout her summer. After ranting and yelling, she told us to "just go to your fucking cottage." This reservation was to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary, and she knew this. I asked for a refund of our deposit, as there was no way I was staying here. She then proceeded to swear as her husband and son tried to calm her down. She even hit her husband twice while she screamed at me asking if I was calling her a "fucking liar?" We left. This was too horrible to understand and obviously unsafe, to say the least. They refused to refund the deposit we had sent them in good faith. Do NOT stay here. It's not safe.

They offer both motel-style rooms and cottages--though I can only speak to the motel room, as I didn't stay in a cottage. I met the two new owners, sisters from New York, who were actively making upgrades and working on the landscaping. They were incredibly kind and accommodating, even placing me in a room away from other guests so I could enjoy a peaceful night's sleep. The room was clean and comfortable, with great amenities. The bed was cozy, the air conditioning worked perfectly, and the rate was very reasonable--about $100 with tax. The only downside was the water pressure in the shower and a slight delay before the hot water kicked in. Other than that, no complaints. Check-in was super convenient. Instead of keys or cards, they use a keypad system with a code programmed specifically for each guest--reset after every stay. Great for travelers who are in and out. There's no on-site restaurant, but the motel is only five minutes from town. The property features a scenic view of a field and trees, plus a pond and small play structure. If you're planning to spend most of your time exploring the area and just need a quiet, comfortable place to sleep, this is a fantastic choice. Good parking, great people, and a relaxing environment. Would 100% stay again.

They also had a Keurig but there were no K cups provided. I really don't think anyone is traveling with their own K-cups........ As someone that looks forward to their morning coffee, huge let down there. I'd like to mention that we got a message before checking in stating that there will be nobody in the office during our stay and if you needed anything to call a phone number. So there's nobody even working there to retrieve anything extra from. 2. Our bed was right in front of the patio door with a big glass window and no curtains or blinds providing any sort of privacy from other guests seeing right into our cottage. We put a towel over the window the entire stay which was quite ridiculous looking but did the job. 3. The bathroom. There was a blood droplet on the floor near the vanity, which tells me the cottages are not being cleaned well in-between guests. This is quite literally a biohazard. Aside from that, the bathroom and everything in it stayed wet our entire 3 day stay from the steam of taking a normal shower. Even with the window open and the fan running. Overall, It just seemed like a lack of care and accommodations for your paying guests. I hate to leave a bad review but this was a huge damper (no pun intended) on an otherwise lovely trip to Maine. Hopefully they can take this into consideration and improve going forward.

The view is spectacular, and we had a great time watching the tide come in and go out. They also put flowers in the room for our anniversary! The restaurant next door (same owners) brought us food on the patio outside the cabin, so we were able to have a private little dinner. The cabins are very close to the Hull's Cove Entrance of Acadia and about five minutes drive to downtown Bar Harbor, but still nice and quiet. Definitely a place to return to!

Due to complications, I was unable to arrive until very late on Tuesday evening. Having paid in advance, I lost a significant amount of money. UPON ARRIVAL, the night staff were both very friendly; however, they were unable to check me in straight away. Unaware that they require a one-hundred dollar deposit upon check in, I only had "Apple cash" at my disposal and it was 11pm. Night staff was courteous enough to allow family to use their credit card as FIRESIDE does not yet have modern technology in regard ability to process Apple Pay. Staff requested to email a form to persons submitting the credit card. Though I wrote said email address in giant black sharpe letters, BOTH staff continuously mistyped the email address over and over and over, insisting that they had done it correctly. Didn't get a key until midnight. There was no breakfast available in the morning, though the ad promised that amenity. There were VERY FEW other patrons and I never saw a soul in the long, spooky hallways. I'm here to visit family. As it turned out, my family visit was postponed until Saturday. I did not think it would be difficult to book another night seeing as there were no other guests. This morning, housekeeping was knocking on my door a bit after 11. I had overslept and alerted the young woman that I would like to stay another evening. Not even a full minute had passed when the front desk rang me exclaiming in a very curt tone that I had TEN MINUTES to exit the room. Evidently there was a comic book convention in town and they were unable to accommodate me. I explained I would do my best. The young man on the line repeated sternly that he could give me NO MORE THAN TEN MINUTES. Again, I said I would do my best. Having assumed I'd be there another evening, I had not packed. Furthermore, I wished to tidy the room as best as I could for staff. After a couple days there, I had accumulated some food containers etc so I collected them and put them neatly in the bin. I gathered towels and made a neat pile in the restroom. I left housekeeping a cash tip. Imagine my shock to be greeted by an officer of the law in the lobby. The desk had called the cops!!!!!! Outrageous, silly, and completely off base. Desk clerk said it was because I was late checking out and they needed to clean my room. I explained to the officer that I HAD BEEN ONE OF VERY FEW guests there and SEEING AS CHECK IN is not until 3 pm, this was completely uncalled for. The real motive was that night staff from Thursday suspected me of smoking marijuana! Laughable. Last night I asked the night clerk if I could use the desktop in the lobby. After booting it up, and putting in the password- she told me it's the SAME PASSWORD that staff uses for THEIR clerking. She then regretted telling me this, fearing repercussions. "I didn't hear anything," I reassured her. "GOOD! You didn't hear NOTHING!" she laughed. She talked my ear off for 45 minutes, telling me about her three sons, among other things. I became so tired I told her I was going to my room to get something. (It was too late for me to write email at that point.) Unfortunately, I am a tobacco user. I grabbed a cigarette, and was about to head out of doors to smoke it. I opened my room door and was startled to find the night clerk there. The hallway was permeated with marijuana smoke. I commented on that. Baffled at her presence there, I inquired. She said she was investigating the smell. I said it didn't bother me but that I knew they had rules against it there. (Signs are plastered all over regarding the prohibition of what is a legal substance here.) I do not smoke pot. I'm an old school alcohol and cigarette gal. When hearing my remark that the smell did not offend me, the gal said in a very snarky tone, WELL YOU WOULDN'T-- implying that it was me. Laughable. Negative stars.

So found this place by accident. Booked it cuz reasonable. Breakfast is included, not the greatest, fruits, microwave foods and coffee, juice. I have to say that was one of the best coffees I've had. Rooms are small, it not that bad and bathroom is older and not comfortable, they give soaps and shampoos in dispensers. We were out of body wash soap by second night. You can have rooms cleaned or choose not to. All in all, spent 3 nights,probably could have done another if had time. They do have a pool, didn't have time though. Playground and fire pit. Grounds are well kept. It was busy. I guess it depends how much you want to spend. It's not too far a drive from center and the Acadia National Park. Glad I came. Probably will search more for a more comfortable place. But glad I got to see beautiful Bar Harbor and Acadia at a reasonable price.

On the other side of things, the hotel rooms are extremely small and the bathroom has no ventilation outside of the window and even with opening that, expect that your room will get extremely damp. The floors are not kept well at least in the room we stayed in either. They were a little damaged in spots and I'm sure that some of that is from the moisture. There also were not a lot of places to plug in devices either. Also, staying for over a week we never once saw anyone sweeping the floors in rooms that people had left and/or we never heard a vacuum. The towels and bed sheets were clean. This brings up another note, when we did laundry there were dead cockroaches in the floor from where the hotel had not swept them up. I think we counted at least 6. It would have also been nice to have been able to use the swimming pool but it was also not open as advertised. It didn't open our entire trip and it was advertised to be open a few days after we arrived. Also some of the breakfast items were not available on the menu either and they ran out of most of the items as we progressed throughout the week. Would recommend only if you are planning to stay maybe 1 night.

Without fail, we had fresh towels delivered to our room every day and when I say fresh, I mean smells like your mom just pulled towels out of the dryer and wrapped you in a hug - fresh. Our Motel room was perfect for what we needed it for - a place to sleep when we weren't out exploring. Now the showers are almost comically small, but they get the job done. That said, the utilization of the space is very well thought out. My only suggestion would be to add some hooks by the door for extra hanging storage! We would definitely be back, but would probably level up and reserve a Cottage for a bit more shower space :)
