Absolutely a must stay! Called day of; got reservations to the best place in the area. Arrived after midnight. Stayed in #21 and 22. Large rooms with a couch, multiple recliners, and stove to enjoy a fire. The views were beautiful! This place was clean with a lovely fully equipped kitchen and renovated bathrooms. The staff were super friendly. The owners loaned us pots to boil our lobster that were freshly caught by the locals. Enjoyed the sunset. Visited nearby Acadia NP. Still family owned, 1 of only 3 in the area. Our family has decided this is the best place we have ever stayed and we have traveled extensively. read more

Found this place on Yelp (of course!), and I was immediately attracted to its waterside location and the fact that it wasn't on the main road but on the 'old' Bar Harbor road. David made us very welcome when we arrived and gave us the orientation talk on the island, giving us a couple of local newspapers and marking down worthwhile sights on the maps before showing us to our 'cottage'. I'd actually describe the cottage as more of a beach hut (we had one of the smaller ones), but it had everything in it and was only a few yards from the water's edge with great views over Salisbury Cove. There was a porch with chairs and table where you could sit and watch the sunset. Very pleasant. Inside, the cottage was scrupulously clean, there is a small kitchen area with stove and coffee maker etc. if you wanted to eat in. It could have done with an electric kettle to make tea with, although you could use the coffee maker to boil water I guess. There's a small heater in the wall that we used a few times as we had a couple of rainy days during our stay. Best of all was the shower - great water pressure and piping hot. A great start to the morning. Followed by a cup of complementary coffee from reception, we were all set to go and explore. So thanks to David and Jayne - we really enjoyed our few days here and would gladly return in future. read more

I'm so happy I found this place! It was perfect. Close to the park so could come back and relax in between hiking and sight seeing trips. The cottage was spotless, the bed was soooo comfortable and the shower was hot. Our room was very clean and remodeled. Comfortable bed, nice linens. Brand new bathroom and fixtures. We had a TWO balconies, one that overlooked the water and we got to catch the sunrise. We recommend this place and would love to come back and stay again. The view of the sunrise was amazing. There's a grill for guests to use and I guess several places will deliver to the motel. WARNINGS: *You need to check in by 8pm *If it's a cloudy stormy day, you probably won't have cell reception in Acadia! *Kitchens in Bar Harbor close at 9pm with 1-2 open until 10pm The owner had to wait for us because we didn't arrive until 8:40pm owing to the fact that we had no cell reception and got somewhat lost in the park. He was really nice about it though. We really appreciated his recommendation of the Log Cabin for breakfast, it was delicious! read more

This place was SPOTLESS! I too own vacation rental properties and couldn't find any dirt and you know I was looking for it. We stayed in the motel, #21 on the bottom left side of building. Very nice inside. Spacious, nicely decorated and newly redone. View was amazing, peaceful & quiet. This place sits right on a cove complete with fishing boats anchored just off the property. Well worth the money. Owners were very helpful and friendly. Rooms are cleaned daily and fresh towels are waiting for you when you return. Oh, and the bed was super comfortable. So much so I took sheets off to find out what kind it was!! Pillows didn't suck either. Very happy with our stay. read more

I stayed here for three nights and wouldn't change a thing about any of it. The motel room is huge with very comfy beds, comfy chairs, a private porch, and an amazing ocean view. I absolutely loved everything about Edgewater! I was sad I had to leave. I will definitely come back! read more

Love love love love love this place! I think we originally stumbled upon it looking for reviews of places to stay in Bar Harbor on Tripadvisor.com. We were looking for small, private cottages near the water to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We booked one of the last ones available for the timeframe of our visit (July 16-23). The cottage was excellent. It's basically an efficiency with a full bed, loveseat, small table and two chairs, kitchenette, and bath w/ shower. There was a fan, tv, and small dresser. It was very clean and well-kept, with linens, towels, and basic kitchen utensils and supplies (cutlery, dishes, glasses, pots and pans, coffee maker, etc). A dish pan, sponge, drying rack, and soap were also included! The fridge is just big enough to store all the essentials. There was also a two-burner stove and microwave. Grills were available outside, but we never used them (hard to get motivated to cook when there is a heat wave). There is also a small porch overlooking the cove (about 30 or so feet away), with a plastic table and two chairs. Just bring a citronella candle if you expect to sit out there in the evening! One reason I love this place so much is that it is only minutes from Bar Harbor proper and Acadia Nat'l Park, but it far enough off the beaten path that you aren't overrun with tourists. It is a very tranquil setting where you can just relax, lounge in the Adirondack chairs by the shore, and go tidepool exploring. The owners were absolutely wonderful, full of recommendations and advice. They gave us all sorts of informational brochures, and recommended a great place to get a lobster dinner for two (which was delivered right to us at our cottage - ask about it!) Thanks to the Edgewater for helping us have a first anniversary to remember! Both my husband and I look forward to staying here again the next time we plan a trip to the Bar Harbor area. read more

We were happy to get a last minute reservation for cottage five last night. Such a peaceful place! I had a great bath and enjoyed the comfortable bed. Great star viewing and dust sunrise skies over the water were seen from our bed. Bar harbor was still very busy but this is a quite escape just out of town and we were able to make ourselves breakfast in the kitchen before heading to Acadia. We stayed here for a week in September. It was really nice. I forget how I found this place but I am glad I did. We stayed in the motel as the cottages were filled up. Nice room, very clean, although not as big as the 360 degree pictures on the website made it appear. It's more like a large efficiency apartment. The kitchen is well-equipped (coffee maker and filters!) but if you plan on cooking much, I would suggest you bring your own knives as theirs are pretty dull. But the sheets! Oh my, the sheets were really something. All cotton, high thread count, and they were a nice mossy green. Thanks for that, Edgewater. All the rooms have a great view of the harbor, complete with fishing boats and tidal pools at low tide. The balconies are not completely private, though, so no nude birdwatching for us. And David and Janey who run the place are super nice. Janey told us about the town and marked restaurants and points of interest on our map and was genuinely welcoming. Plus there's coffee in the office every morning which was nice. I enjoyed taking a tiny walk over to get coffee and then walking down to the shore to drink it. read more

This was probably the best place we've ever stayed in! The rooms were immaculate and very well-kept. On our way to our room, we saw just how well these rooms are kept clean when we saw a member of the housekeeping staff scrubbing the floors on her hands and knees. Not only is this place clean, but it's extremely affordable. The ocean is not even 50 feet away from the motel rooms and the views are amazing so it pays for itself. The front desk staff are friendly and helpful. Upon check-in, we were given two maps and a full explanation of how to get around. Our room came equipped with a full kitchen and a fireplace. They sell wood in the main office too which was convenient . Overall, our stay was incredible and we are likely to stay here again in the future as well as tell others we know about it. Great place to stay. It was affordable, clean and the staff were very helpful. The views from our cottage were beautiful. It is a short drive from any other attractions on the island but we didn't mind because the price was so low. The kitchenette also allowed us to cook our own dinner and breakfasts a few times. With a small porch, we could eat a meal overlooking Salisbury Cove. Very please with this one and I would love to come back again. read more

Definitely the best place to stay on the island! The cottages were recently remodeled, are right on the water and have breath taking views both during the day and at sunset. They are a short drive to downtown so you're just a few minutes from the shops and restaurants but are still very quiet and peaceful. read more

Edgewater is a wonderful, special place! A true slice of heaven. My husband and I had room #24, which is 1st floor of the motel, as opposed to a cabin. We had 2 queen beds that were as comfortable as could be. View was to die for, of the bay, a few moorings with lobster boats tied up, and lobster pots right out front! The construction of this building was done with thoughtful, quality materials, and the facility is so very clean. There were 2 recliners in the spacious room! Owners are nice. Very close to 'downtown' Arcadia and the National Park. we really want to go back, and maybe rent for the week! Fabulous! read more

I cannot imagine a more wonderful place to stay in the Bar Harbor area. All units are immaculately maintained and up-to-date. All have porches where one can enjoy breakfast or dinner watching the quiet Bay over breakfast or supper. The location makes it easy to get to Acadia National Park, the city, and surrounding areas. LOVED our stay here! We had cottage #1, which has a massive stone fireplace and large sliding doors that open to a great little stone patio right on the water's edge. The cottage was fully stocked with cozy furniture and all the kitchen essentials. There was no oven, but a stovetop and microwave, as well as a full-size fridge, coffee maker, toaster. Very clean. Owners and staff were very friendly and had great suggestions for restaurants and sightseeing. This is not the Ritz, but it is a very romantic, cozy, comfortable, welcoming little gem on a beautiful little semi-secluded cove. About a 7-minute drive to Acadia, 15-minute drive into Bar Harbor. Stayed here for two nights in 2018 and loved it, so we came back for two weeks in 2019! The motel rooms are perfection itself, comfortable, quiet, with excellent kitchenettes and gorgeous baths. The outdoor balcony faces north and overlooks the bay and the boats. Bed is comfortable, the HVAC unit is efficient and dead quiet, and the wood-burning stove is a charming bonus. Sparkling clean, well managed, nice owners, beautiful setting, easy parking. One caveat - if you stay in the motel, get a 2nd floor room because you can hear the foot traffic overhead in the 1st floor units. read more

I stayed in one of the standard rooms during my visit, it was very clean and looks to be recently renovated. we paid under 120 after taxes/fees during our visit in early june and it was well worth it. The prices were great & better than a lot of other places, especially for a place right on the water. Had a very bad experience trying to make a reservation here. I contacted the motel via email and was told they do not take credit cards over the phone and the only way to make a reservation was by sending a check via snail mail. So I sent the check and what do you know it gets lost in the mail. I follow up a few weeks later and was then told that they will now take a credit card over the phone. So I call and am told that they will need to check with the owner before taking my card, I told her I will call back tomorrow. I then get an email the next day before I had a chance to call back saying that my room was no longer available as I did not call in with card info! After going through the trouble of sending a check in the mail, spending time on multiple emails and phone calls trying to pay for the room they ended giving it away to someone else. Unreal. This place needs to get with the times. Would not recommend. read more

The rooms are in immaculate condition. The view from the three pane sliding glass door is amazing. We had hoped for a nice place based on pictures from Edgewater's webpage, but this far exceeded our expectations. slept like a baby and loved watching the lobster boats working each morning when we woke up. My husband and I stayed in one of the cottages during our stay. I was perfect for us! Edgewater is a simple place but it has beautiful views of the water. The property and our room was very well kept and clean. Our cottage had your basic kitchen utensils, bathroom towels and coffee maker. It is, by no means, a fancy hotel with deluxe accommodations but it was exactly what we were looking for! A quiet location tucked away enough from the main tourist attractions that you feel like you have a quiet place to relax in the evenings, but close enough to Acadia and the town of Bar Harbor that it is only a few minutes drive. I spent a lot of time researching places to stay in Bar Harbor and I was lucky enough to find Edgewater. The owner David was welcoming and helpful. We stayed in the Lodge Suite, which is really like an apartment in a house located right next to the main property. Everything was remarkably clean, probably the cleanest vacation rental I've ever stayed at. The unit had a fully-stocked kitchen and a wonderful screened-in large porch overlooking the little cove. The pictures online show an open floor plan with a king size bed located between the dining area and the living room, but it also has a separate bedroom with a full size bed. Salisbury Cove, which is where Edgewater is located, was just what we were looking for...a quiet little out of the way village but close enough to Acadia and Bar Harbor to be able to get any where in a few minutes. This was worth every penny we paid and I would definitely recommend it. read more
