If you cannot possibly get to any other grocery store in the area, then this is a perfectly nice market with a good variety and nice looking produce. However, expect to pay about a 100 percent markup or more. I was charged $32.13 for one six pack of blueberry soda and one four pack of tonic water. Too stunned to question the price after the fact (and that's on me for sure), I'm still annoyed with the insane price gouging. The same soda is currently $8.99 at hannafords. The checkout person was not particularly pleasant either, and you'd think they would be since another sucker just bought groceries from them. read more

We love this market! We spend most of the summer living aboard our boat. Without access to a car, the Pine Tree Market is easy to walk to from the town wharf. Fresh, often organic, produce and meats/poultry are much appreciated. The market invariably has all we need for staples -- I'd much rather shop here than in the giant big box supermarkets. Pricey? If you want people to wear masks for safety inside a grocery store, you might shop somewhere else. I want to support local businesses, especially during the pandemic, but today this market did not enforce the mask-wearing policy, even after an older woman complained to the management. There was a young guy in line without a mask, indoors, and nothing was said to him even after this older woman requested it. In fact, the man I assume was the manager on duty (seated by the checkout register) just smiled and said he didn't think they have that policy at this market. read more

Pretty good selections for a small town grocery store. Lots of good wine, too. Kind of expensive, but that's to be expected in a very seasonal, high end town. Sadly, they're unfriendly at best, and downright rude sometimes. Most laughable is the tip jar at the checkout counter. Hint, hint, if you want a tip, SAY SOMETHING - ANYTHING - to the customers. You know, "hi" or "good afternoon" or ANY of the pleasantries normal people use. This is personal experience from multiple cashiers and visits to this store in the last few years. Oh, and one time last year I special ordered a case of wine. The manager (owner?) said he'd give me 10% off on a whole case, and I told this to the cashier. When I picked up the case a week later, their back and forth SHOUTING across the store went something like this: Cashier: He says he gets 10 percent off! Manager: The price is on the bottle! One star is for their prices, specifically the price for a 20 oz. bottle of Diet Coke -- $2.99 (plus tav and deposit.) This isn't the "highest price in Maine" as a recent reviewer stated, it's the highest price on the planet! I know this is a pricey resort town. I live in a pricey resort town...where I pay $1.89, $1,99 and at one place, $2.09 for the same product! Hey, it's only a dollar more...but I see it as 50% more! A great old school market in Northeast Harbor. However, the real gem is in the kitchen in the back of the store. Betheny Troyer, a French trained chef not only bakes spectacular fresh baguettes but also develops specialty menu items that change daily. Betheny helped us very last minute with a dinner party for 7. She completely saved the day with a menu of incredible shepherd's pie, roasted artichokes and the best gazpacho I have ever had in my life. This is the truth. Very reasonably priced. There are a number of new fancy pants caterers in NE Harbor that are too busy for last minute inquiries. I would take Betheny's low-key high-end cuisine over any of them. read more

As per Wikipedia (and mirrored by just about any other publication that describes the town of Northeast Harbor): "The village...has long been a quiet enclave of the rich and famous". Feel free to walk down to the harbor a few blocks away to see a marina full of more yachts than working class boats or just check out the main stretch of town and see all the high end art shops and lack of tourist nic-nacks and pubs to realize what type of area you're in. Pine Tree Market takes full advantage of this when it comes to their prices but not necessarily their quality. They know that with the exception of a few things you get get at the gas station convenience store across the street there's really no other place to go in the area for groceries. I don't remember all the prices but $16 for a 6 pack of beer is just the tip of the iceberg here. With prices so high you would think you were in a place like Hawaii where everything needs to be flown in from far away but that's not the case here. It's also not the case that they're using that money to modernize or clean up the place because it's a very small dated small town New England grocery store, which would normally be charming if they weren't trying to get $7 for a pint of blueberries. On top of the other downsides the service wasn't all that friendly. Do yourself a favor and if you plan on staying in the Northeast Harbor area for any period of time, get your grocery shopping somewhere on the mainland before making it to your final destination here. read more

I've been coming to North East Harbor since I was a child never had a price this outrages. I went to get a York on the box it says 89 cents so I thought hey something normal priced. Guess what it was $2.10. I would never recommend this to anyone ever read more

We have been shopping at the Pine Tree Market every summer for the past ten years. While it has always been expensive, the quality, selection, and ambiance made it worthwhile. I am sad to report a serious decline in quality and selection with a serious increase in prices. I was shocked to see a 12 ounce NY sirloin steak priced at $45. One could get that cooked to perfection served by a tuxedo-clad waiter at a top NY steakhouse for the same price. I thought that was an extreme peak of over-priced, until I spotted the single veal rib chop, a serving size for one person, for $48.00. I settled on a vacuum sealed package of Murray's chicken thighs at a reasonable price, only to discover the next day when I opened the package, that they were spoiled, despite an ok Sell By date. The PTM used to have wonderful local vegetables, but this year there were very few choices of any decent vegetables, local or not, and again, the prices were horrific. This is all a shame because it is a local landmark. read more
