    Carrot cake.
    David R.

We we're told to stop here for breakfast from a bartender in Bar Harbor but got a late start on a day trip to Bass Harbor head Lighthouse. We stopped for snacks and drinks and I spotted the carrot cake. All I can say is WOW! I think this is the best carrot cake I've had between Canada and South America. It is loaded with raisins and chopped nuts with about a 1/2" of cream cheese frosting. They have a variety of goods and the kitchen smelled great but the carrot cake is a must try. It's hard to tell in the pick but this piece is enormous.

I expected a simple gas station-esque store with drinks and chips, but this store kept going. There were certainly chips and drinks, but also wine, groceries, and freshly made treats to name a few offerings. It was a great place to stock up on supplies after seeing the Bass Harbor Lighthouse!

Good for gas station pizza. Kinda floppy

The pizza was super heavy so it didn't stick out when you held it up but overall it wasn't bad. Good for gas station pizza. We reheated it over a campfire and it was crispier the way it should've been. Their Whoopie Pies were excellent but they run out quick!

    Giffords lobster tracks ice cream

Okay so the outside of this place needs some love, but the store and ice cream are AMAZING. They have cute chairs in the back, swing sets, and picnic tables. The ice cream is giffords. They also have soft serve. The fried dough bomb was so good and they cooked it when I ordered. This might not look like a good place to stop - but let me tell you it is. Very pleasantly surprised.

These pizzas are huge and delicious.

This pizza is amazing. We stayed near here and ordered 80" of pizza on our vacation. We stuffed ourselves royally. Also, the desserts we tried were excellent, and they have quite a variety. Don't judge a pizza joint by it's facade. Get this stuff!

Miserable workers but some of the best pizza I have ever had. Would give 5 straight if not for the people that work there.

I understood that BHF has a great Farm Market. BHF delivered on that and more. I arrived 10 minutes before BHF opened its gate at 9 am. By 9, five different cars had parked nearby so they could have pick of the Market. The customers mostly seemed like local Mainers, but there were some folks taking pics as well. After I parked, I scurried to the Market and didn't notice the surrounding area yet. The produce looked beautiful with its purples, greens, oranges, reds, yellows and dark blues. I bought fresh wild Maine blueberries, cucumbers, carrots, a multi-colored bell pepper, yellow-orange heirloom tomatoes, an eggplant and mixed salad greens. The blueberries were delicious. I made a great dinner salad with the non-eggplant veggies. I'll grill the eggplant tomorrow. I bought a few other local products. A baguette that was terrific with a local blue cheese I also bought from BHF. Granola I haven't tried yet. And a blueberry pie made by "Gayle Arnold Tucker". I don't know who that is, but in my mind she's a 5th Generation local pie legend. The crust was to-die-for and the blueberry filling had great flavor and consistency. BHF also sold things such as milk, eggs, honey, kimchi, jarred products and beverages. It was a terrific-looking farm Market with great stuff. After my purchases, I explored the grounds. There was a green house with row after row of farm fresh and fragrant garlic and things like starter vegetables. Picnic tables. Fruit trees. And my favorite thing of all - rows of gorgeous wild flowers that were a big draw for bees and . . . the most monarch butterflies I've ever seen in one naturally occurring place. I don't even know how many there were. I saw five at a time when I was looking up. I spent about 15 minutes taking butterfly photos and got some awesome pics. I limited myself to one in the Yelp photos I posted. The flower photo opportunities are also outstanding. I'll put my BHF pics up against my Acadia pics any day. If you like exploring Farmers Markets and/or great photo opps, I guarantee you'll enjoy Beech Hill Farms, at least in August. Five Stars

Off the beaten tourist path and open year round, PP lives up to the reviews and hype. We made a mistake our first night in Bar Harbor going to a tourist trap and getting a rubbery lobster roll and sad chowder. I did a bit of research online and found Peekytoe and was SO glad for it. While you don't get a water view, but a cute walk down the main drag, it is WELL worth the excursion AND HOW. My husband said his Crabby Patty was the best crab cake sandwich he ever had. I agreed in as I had the cake as an app. I also got a Halibut dish with pickled fiddleheads (a local green I might liken to okra for lack of other reference) and blistered tomatoes. It was moist, well cooked fish, amazing sides with phenomenal heightening elements. We also enjoyed our cocktails immensely. GO if you are a foodie and don't want a lame wannabe roll with some kids grilled cheese sides, DO this spot. SO well worth it. PS to manament - I know you do a brunch. MAKE SURE YOU DO A CRABCAKE BENEDICT. Your crab cakes are divine and with a slight seared crunch. Ideal. You can even do a lemon-fiddlehead or blistered tomato HOLLANDAISE. I'd be IN IN as I am sure most people would. The vinegary elements from the fiddleheads to (I think) my husband's pickled onion atop his crabby patty MADE the CRABCAKES THE STAR.

I came here for the Crab Roll, which I had the first time I was here. Dare I say, it's better than a lobster roll? Packed full of crab meat, and no extra flavorings needed (though it does have some bay seasoning)! Worth coming back for this. The Smoked Fish Chowder (Bowl) had a lot of fish, with a hint of smokiness and a kick. Definitely hearty with the other ingredients (celery, potato, onion) and warms you up! The Baked Polenta Fries had a decent crisp. Frying would definitely give it a much better texture. I loved the dipping sauce, which definitely helped the dish. The Kelp Salad (Half) was too salty and I'm not a fan of the texture, so not a dish for me. It is a decently sized portion for a half. The Natalie's Lemonade was a good typical lemonade. Overall, a good spot to hit for the the crab roll!

Normally I'm far too lazy to write a review, but we had such a good experience at this store that I thought I really should. We had a somewhat unfortunate time trying to start a fire in the blackwoods campground after buying wood and a starter log from here. We went back to ask for advice, and he was as confused as we were about why the logs wouldn't stay lit. He gave us another bundle of wood, some of his own kindling, and lighter fluid for free. In the end, it turns out that the supplier of the logs had left them out in the rain, and while they were dry on the outside, internal moisture kept them from burning correctly. We didn't get a fire to stay lit that night, but the store owner refunded our money without us asking, saying he hoped we would be back. We certainly will be if we're on Mount Desert Island again.

This was one of the most disturbing customer service experiences I've ever had…read more I stopped by this deli to buy some muffins. After picking one up, the owner suddenly snatched it out of my hand and immediately began yelling at me. I was completely caught off guard. I calmly asked what I had done wrong and said there was no reason to yell at me. Rather than explaining the situation, she continued shouting, became increasingly aggressive, and repeatedly ordered me to leave the store. At no point was I given a clear explanation for what had happened. My husband, who had been waiting in the car, saw me return upset and empty-handed. He went inside hoping to calmly resolve the misunderstanding, but he was also told to leave without any meaningful explanation. Despite his efforts to de-escalate the situation and speak respectfully, the owner continued yelling and refused to have a conversation. So we left. Later, we mentioned the incident to our Airbnb host, who told us he remembered similar confrontations involving this business with some of his past renters. After reading Yelp and other reviews, we also found accounts from other customers describing comparable experiences, including some who felt they were treated differently because they were non-white. Any opportunities or excuses she can find to harass, she will. I can't speak to the owner's motivations or intentions, but seeing similar accounts from others was deeply troubling. No customer should be yelled at, humiliated, or threatened for any reasons. Everyone deserves to be treated with basic courtesy and respect. We intend to report this incident through the appropriate channels so it can be properly reviewed. I also hope the business preserves any available security camera footage, as it may help provide an objective record of what occurred. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this establishment.
