We have been visiting the Pinehurst Tavern in Billerica, for many many weeks after church services in Winchester. I ordered the Ruban on Rye, with fries, and a lot of pickles with two Diet Coke sodas. I really enjoy getting a lot of pickles with my order and I request them every time. It just seems that I never can get enough of the pickles, but that's just me. My wife, Joan, decided to get a turkey BLT with fries, and two margaritas. That's pretty much her usual order. She always asks for pickles too, which she generously donates to me. The staff is very kind and seems to know our orders well, especially my requests for extra pickles. It never seems to be very busy outside of major sporting events. Overall, they serve great bar food and we will continue to visit as long as we do not have another event planned on the same day and time. The Pinehurst Tavern kitchen was open until 10:00 pm which was great for my 8:50 pm Saturday evening arrival thinking I had ten minutes to order. Friday night band rocked out the 80's (a little loud but great band and my ears adjusted). I ordered the special soup and a side salad to go with my dark espresso martini NOT made with the sugary stuff. The band was great and the food is consistently good here. Stopped in today to get takeout for lunch just before 12:30 pm. It was quiet, the bar was busy. It was clean. The lone server greeted me as soon as I walked in, asked me to hang on a few minutes. I had checked the menu and ordered an American Burger "Fresh handmade patty grilled to your liking and topped with melted American cheese. Served on a toasted buttery brioche bun with a side of hand-cut fries." I ordered medium rare, and asked for some siracha aioli on it. I waited a bit then headed home to eat lunch. The good: The brioche bun was buttery. The fries were crunchy. My burger did have requested aioli on the side, and the other veggies as ordered. The bad: The bun was stale on the edges. The burger was not medium rare, it was burnt. and was dry and tiny. The bun oversized the burger. If those fries are hand cut, my name is Rumpelstiltskin. They were covered with a ton of pepper. Maybe they were frozen "hand cut style" fries. Cmon, at least be honest on your menu. The hand cut fries and the details in the menu were why I came. My advice - move on- there are better burgers and fries in the area. $17 of disappointment to feed the trash can. read more

We had dinner while listening to live music tonight. The atmosphere has been updated and the space looks refreshed and modern. The mac and cheese with Ritz crumbs was enormous and delicious. Everything came out hot and freshly prepared. Appetizers were served when they should have been, which is always the best. Service was fantastic, friendly, and fun. The shining dish of the night were the chicken tenders. Clearly battered here on premises, they were just the right amount of seasoning and fried to perfection. This place is pretty gross. They don't honor their own promotions. The pulled pork flatbread was recommended by my server, but it was incredibly dry and the onion strings were soggy. They've made claims to customers they do not have any freezers in the kitchen, which is most likely a bold-face lie unless they're storing their food elsewhere (NOT GOOD). They also claim to have the "freshest food" in Billerica, which is merely marketing speak. The premises wreak of moth balls. Ordered potato skins and chicken wings and they were very good. Also ordered a Reuben Sandwich and it was pretty bad! Over half the meat was impossible to even bite into. Just fat and grizzle. When it comes to Billerica, there are a ton of Bars and Taverns to choose from. Royal Tavern stands alone in my opinion. It has a smaller less overwhelming bar unlike some places, with plenty of seating on the restarant side. Ive ate here now a hand full of times and everything I've had was perfect. From the flatbreads, to the burgers and the potato skins to the lobster salad special I had the other day. I was always satisfied. If you get a seat at the bar, I hope your lucky enough to have Rohan as your bartender. The guy is a wizard when it comes to making drinks! Not to mention hes extremely down to earth and makes you fell welcomed everytime you come in. I'd recommend the espresso martini. Best martini I've ever had. (And ive had alot lol) I feel like this place is very underrated and people need to come here and need to try something different other then (Pizza Mia) (Newtown) (Emerald Rose) just to name a few. Going to just list my experience in order of how it played out. I'll say, this was my first visit. Patrons were smoking out front. Yuck. Bar area looked decent, but small. Dining area was smallish, but spaced out well. It looked more like a man cave than a restaurant. Place was clean. Menu was laying on my plate and silverware when I got to the table. That is nasty!! Menu was small, but that's ok. Also had a few typos. That's always a head scratcher and a red flag of sorts. Straws came unwrapped in our drinks. Not only unsanitary, but I believe it's a code violation. Iced tea was awful. Nachos were pretty good. Better than average. Only issue is, the were stale. Kids seemed to like the chicken fingers. My wife said her steak tips were ok. My black bean burger was decent, but there was too much bun vs burger. Roasted(?) brussel sprouts were not great. They were oily and seemed boiled. Service was ok. The lady with all the tattoos was cool and friendly. That's all I got for you. read more

I just had to write a review for Hanley's Pinehurst Tavern! I was there last Saturday night with a friends. Kudos to the Server!. My Frozen Daiquiri was one of the best, so I had another!! Whipped cream and all!! What a treat! The Reuben Sandwich and fries were excellent! My friend ordered a few apps...equally excellent!! Soooo tasty! The Tavern itself was very clean and tidy. The Ladies room...VERY clean and I was told the Mens room was as well. From the time we entered the tavern, we felt comfortable and well taken care of. Parking was easy right on the site. Now....the entertainment....EXCELLENT!! The musical artist Last Saturday 7/15, was "Jermaine" he is a feel good guy with a huge smile and an incredible voice and talent, who made you so glad you were there!! He is SO TALENTED from the time we entered til we went home His Reggae music was AWESOME. NO ONE could stop smiling and swaying! Applauding often! All this and there were many wide screen TVs by the gorgeous bar and the surrounding rooms. So, if you're around to enjoy a wide variety of entertainment nightly, HANLEY'S is a great Sports Bar. Despite the parking lot being empty, I was a little apprehensive due to that reason, we stopped inside to try it anyway, glad we did, the nacho plate was huge and loaded with everything, the tacos were fresh and delicious, burgers were large and very good, the homemade fries were like boardwalk fries and the chicken wings were awesome. My only negative was that a bowl of soup was $7 for soup! Otherwise everything was good, large portions and reasonable priced, except the soup, lol. I'll go back. read more

Not going back! So many things off about this place. First, the menus are a mess. There are spacing issues, the plates don't have names just descriptions so you have to read the description to the waiter, and the menus are just inserts of paper and the order was different in all the menus. Then, the place smelled like pee. My boyfriend and I sat down and we had 3 different people come over to our table and it was very confusing about who was serving us. Also, the food was not good. We got a flatbread and the ingredients were not evenly spaced and the steak wasn't good either. I got the sriracha buffalo sandwich and the chicken was basically frozen. I bit into it and it was so hard. The chicken wasn't buffalo either, it just had a little drizzle of the sauce. I know this is a new restaurant so therefore the inside should look all nice but there was paint scratched off the wall near our booth, and the atmosphere is weird. There was a mason jar with string lights in it on our table but the lights weren't on. Overall it was just not a good experience, the food was bad, and we aren't going back. I AM A FAN, of the Royal Tavern. Locally run and owned in Billerica. It competes with the other bar/grills in the area and it's off to a good start. My wife and I went there today for lunch. We were greeted by the bartender (when you walk in you're right at the bar), a waitress, and the host. They will ask if it's your first time and ask if you're local. They really want to matter and be a good option in the area. On to the food...Very Good. Not Excellent, but very...very good. My wife and I both had the tomato bisque (thick, not like smooth creamy) which was good. She had the grilled cheese (she gave it an 8 out of 10), I had the buffalo chicken flatbread. The reason I say the food is very good/not excellent is because here is where it faltered. While the taste of the flatbread was perfect, the consistency of the chicken was UN-perfect. A little too over frozen and not thawed completely through when used. It wasn't raw mind you, just not soft...ya know? I can get past it, my wife would have left it alone entirely after the first chicken bite. BUT ENOUGH ABOUT THE NEGATIVE. The Royal Tavern is a must visit. Give it a try. Did I mention they have Boom Sauce IPA? Oh yeah! Great alcohol selection and the bar is safely separated from the rest of the restaurant if you're bringing the kids. Speaking of kids...bring 'em! It's casual enough to be a "noisy" place to drown out the kids without having to drive to Burlington Chilis. All seating is booths. Went over for lunch with 16 of my coworkers. We called in ahead and placed our order so when we got there, we could get our food right away but ended up waiting 15 minutes. It was not a big deal just wished it was ready when we got there. However, the food was very good. I ordered the 6oz NY steak sirloin. It came with an egg on top for only $13 . WOW $13 for steak that was very juicy and tender. It was cooked to perfection I must add. My coworker next to me ordered the Blackened Salmon. It was very juicy. It was a bit sour from the lemon for her taste but she enjoyed it. Overall, I would definitely go there again and try another item on their menu. read more

Food is just blah, menu is unorganized and when I asked for no lettuce or tomato on my burger I was told it didn't matter because it's on the side. I asked for medium rare, which for such a thin burger it was a little pink in the middle, more like medium but again it was a thin patty so it's hard to accomplish medium rare. Great place to eat. This was our first time here. We had the maple and bacon chicken wings for an appetizer which was really good. The bacon nice and crispy. Marinated steak tips on salad are fantastic!!! Chicken fingers and homemade fries are also super good. Our waitress, Diana was very attentive and made sure everything was perfect.
