As a victim of a crime, it seems like I should spend less than 5 hours getting a replacement tag. I spent 2 hours to get a new tag for my parents and I had to get a form, am back and waiting again. I can't not recommend this business because we don't have another option, but I would love it if they would manage it more effectively. Someone should have given me this form before I waited 2 hours. I don't know if anyone actually reads these but I really feel frustrated and double victimized. I shouldn't have to lose a day.of pay because someone stole my plate. read more

What a pleasant surprise! I was due to get some new plates for my car. Because I'm a cheap old guy and wanted to save the $5, I decided to go by the Tax Collector's office in person. When I entered the door, the place was packed. I anticipated the worse. From the time I entered the front door to leaving out the same way was only about 5 minutes! That's right, 5 minutes for signing in, speaking with a clerk and leaving with my new license plate. They really have their act together. I didn't even have time to sit down. These people here seriously, do not know what they are doing! I first saw John, he recorded my brand new vehicle as having over the limit miles, rather than actual miles. The guy never even corrected it, and was going to send me off with his mistake, which would have cost me seriously had I ever gone to sell this vehicle. However, when I said, I wanted to add my husband to the title, he voided it, and another guy, who is Brandon, found the mistake. Then, when I got home, the following day, I get a call telling me that he forgot to have me sign a document and I need to come back in and sign it. These people need to have more training! The supervisor was basically also a bit clueless. Pretty bad experience! read more

OK, I have to admit, I'm thoroughly confused. I've lived in many states across the US and renewing plates, drivers license, etc... Has always been a 4 hour event, being treated like cattle at best, surrounded by angry people and angrier employees, complete with eyes rolled at you if you ask any questions not deemed to be worthy of their time (which, by the way, is ANY question). The places are usually not clean either, and you would almost rather sit on the floor outside than in those ripped, stained chairs (how they got stained, you don't want to know) until you remember someone puking outside who had been drinking before taking his Drivers License road test to give him 'courage' and yet still somehow passed the exam. This was definitely not the case here. We came the first time when we moved down here 6 months ago and it took less than 30 minutes for both of us to get new licenses, and the employees were polite, very nice, and even smiling at you. Place is very clean and comfortable. What kind of Twilight zone bizzaro world did I step into? Had to be a fluke, right? Today went back to get new license plates for our cars as we wanted specialized plates (Save Our Seas for my wife and Bucs for me). Front desk person was smiling, even joked with me and gave me a number. On a Thursday at 11:30am, most people in those places are already over and ready for weekend. Again, nicely surprised, I headed over to take a seat, and figured I would take a photo for my review. Aimed my phone to take photo and realized the screen had my number up. Wait, whaaaaat??? I hadn't had timers sit down yet. I looked over and person at desk in the back was standing up waiting for me. OK, now this is getting stupid. Sat down, and the guy was very friendly, polite, and incredibly efficient. Answered all of my questions on new plates (never seemed annoyed or made me feel rushed or stupid), then processed everything and I was out, plates in hand. Another great employee. Entire process took less than 15 minutes!!!! Amazing! They need to train every other DMV's in the country!!!! read more

I don't understand what goes into the thought process of management that institute the rules and policies. I relocated from another country and even though I have my drivers licence for 20 years from my country, I'm told that I need to do a driving test for a Florida's licence, which is not even my issue. My issue is, I don't have a vehicle to do the test, as is required by the collectorate and I can't own a vehicle because I don't have a license. I am now faced with a situation of trying to get my license for months now and cant get it because I don't have a car to do the test. Please review your policies and have some humanity (for whatever its worth) by facilitating customers better than how you currently do. I don't believe customers would mind paying a fee for the service of doing their driving road test. read more

I needed to renew my registration and update my address, but it was a bit more complicated. The girl at the front desk advised that it was a two hour wait. I took a number and decided I would go and and come back within an hour and 15 minutes. I'm so glad I did! I walked in again and my number was called! I bought a car from out of state and needed to register it. The period to register it was more than a week (it is by appointment only!). We can't continue this way! When I asked the gal at the front desk for advice, she said that this sounds about right but if I look on line early in the AM, there may be cancellations. Do we really need to accept that we can't register a car until 7 or 9 days after we buy it because the DMV doesn't have enough people to accommodate us? Hire more people! Killing me. read more

After hitting a couple different tax collector offices for DMV-related adventures, I think I like this one the most. The staff here seem nice enough; check in was easy and the woman we dealt with was friendly and efficient. There were a few children of the demon hell-spawn variety running around. I know no one working can control this, but sheesh! It wasn't as bad as the office in south St. Pete, but it was not a good time. Just a note - you can make an appointment online, but ours was about ten minutes behind. Someone next to us made the wrong kind of appointment and was told they would have to wait for another hour after sitting down. This is our second time here. This place is simply amazing. Schedule your appointment, show up five minutes early, check in and wait for them to call your number. We were scheduled for 10:30 and out before 11. This simply didn't happen back up north in the Midwest. You would sit for literally three hours before they would get to you. So, this Florida registration place is the bomb digitty. Staff were friendly and efficient. Place is large and not overly crowded. Avoid Monday and Friday for obvious reasons. it is sad how a company like this will have people of higher management that can Bully their staff with other staff in front of customers. yell at a staff member and then when you bring it to Charles and HR that you are being bullied they ignore it and do nothing. do not apply here! I worked here and they let me go for speaking up on being bullied by my Supervisor my entire time there and then are telling another reason of why I was let go. If you're a person who speaks up for themselves and won't allow an old lady to yell at you, this place isn't for you. No one likes going here, ever. The waits are usually long, the people in there often look as though they haven't a pot to piss in and 50% of the time, there is some paperwork needed that you don't know about. Then, you've gotta come back and do it all over again. With that being said though, this place is pretty solid. I've never had the same person twice. The woman working with us today was alright. I've usually had a fine experience, I haven't had too sour of a person. Even the majority of the staff there don't seem like they want to kill themselves because they hate their job. SOME of them even have a sense of humor. I'm amazed. What can I say? It's the tax office and the DMV all in one. It's not terrible but it's nothing to write home about either. I waited half an hour in the lobby with every piece of information they requested, yet was still told it was insufficient and I would have to go home and try again another day at a specific different location on the other end of the county. Having been to multiple DMVs over the years, this is my favorite (at least from this one experience). I don't know if it's because people don't know it's here, less people in Clearwater or because of the time of the day I went (Wed late morning), but there was no wait. Whaaaat?! I walked in, told the receptionist I need to renew my car registration and, lo and behold, my number is heard over the speakers. Have you ever been to any DMV where your wait was less than 10 min? If you have ever been to a DMV in California, you would understand what an amazingplace this place is. You walk in and a friendly person says, "Hi". You tell them what you need and they hand you a ticket. I once had to wait 30 minutes but usually it is much faster. They have good air conditioning. Even if I was not comparing this place to the dread of the universe, it would still be a nice friendly place. They say Clearwater is the friendly place on Earth, Not sure about that but the DMV sure is easy. read more

Came here to get my license, registration and title switched from out-of-state. I showed up at 9:45 and waited less than 15 minutes. There were about 28 windows open so things moved quickly. One person does everything for you, so even though the visit took about 40 minutes, I walked out with ID and plates in hand, and everything was taken care of. Very good service. read more

I have had a golf tag on my car for years. Why would they send me the paperwork and fee for a regular tag and then send my check and all back asking for another $30 if I want golf tag? In 2018 with all the computers, this is unacceptable. read more

So I wanted to transfer title to my motorcycle which is stored in another state. After waiting about 15 mins. I am told the motorcycle has to be there to check the vin number...keep in mind I am coming in for plates. So because it is in another state they give me a form to fill out. At home I review the form it clearly states in 2 places that it is for "vehicles weighing more than 2000lbs." So I call for clarification...after another 15 mins. on hold I am told the form is needed even though the form says it is NOT NEEDED in 2 places. The gentleman on the phone did say however that "he was sorry and have a nice day". Who in their right mind would want the government in the health care business. read more
